  1. I'm pretty much just lost looking through that list of numbers, but calculate it based on the first day of your last period. That's what usually gives the docs the initial due date estimate, and no matter what US or anything else indicates, the first due date is what they use to center your care (or that's the rule at my OB anyway, even though US were -6 days). I'm horrible at tracking my weeks so whenever I need to know I use the calendar at pregnancy.org. Using my last known period it's within one day (the difference comes from its accounting for cycle length) of the date my OB gave me, and is within 5 days of "all the other" dates I've gotten since.
  2. I've also wondered about this. I heard or read that I wouldn't be able to take any extended release medicine for a while after surgery, but it seems that is not the case with my surgeon. A friend of mine was sleeved on April 11 and she was told to take 1 medicine at a time. I take 3 nightly medications and one morning medication. Didn't really want to have to change anything with medicines. Not taking nsaids is going to be hard enough.
  3. I take effexor also. I skipped 3 days post op. No side effects. When I restarted I just took the whole pill which was ok by my surgeon. I would have kept taking it in the hospital but they didnt carry it.

    Need Inspiration

hi i had my surgery on 10-3-12 and i am already done around 12 pounds. i started out at 212 and i am at 199 now.
  7. Hello. I was at the hospital about a week ago because the lap band has been giving me discomfort. They did an endoscopy and basically I found a new doctor that can get the lap band removed. With this surgery I was able to lose about 150 lbs. I have the feeling though that I really didn't need the lap band 100%. If the doctor does remove the lap band.. do I have a choice whether theyll remove the plication as well? I understand some people have had just the plication done. Would I gain all the weight back also?

    Weakness & shortness of breath

I experienced weakness and lightheadedness for a few weeks after surgery. I had blood work done and found out my potassium was low. A week after starting potassium supplements I felt 100% better. Might be worth getting blood work to check.
  9. Hi All, I was banded last May and have been on a plateau since around November. After some bad fills and attempts at fills, I had a fill under flouroscopy and the Dr. realized my port had flipped and I am waiting to get a date for my port replacement surgery. I have read some accounts that say it happens all the time and some that say it is very rare. Does anyone have any advice? What was the recovery time like? I have had more discomfort than usual in the last couple of weeks since the dr. was poking me under the floroscope and am really anxious to get this taken care of. Thanks for your help! Libby

    Attitude

Wow, did I have an interesting experience. I went to my Dr.'s information session last week. In the waiting room (the session was supposed to start at 1:30, it actually got started at about 3) I met two women. Let's call one Kay and the other Nancy. Kay is 18 and had the band 4 months ago. SHe has lost 24 pounds in 4 months. She now is wanting the doctor to take out the band and give her an RNY. She has a ton of medical problems and seems to be a real mess emotionally. I talked with her for about half an hour and all I kept hearing from her were excuses as to why her band hasn't worked. She blamed everything from her health (which I'm sure is a real battle) to her mom's cooking. She has been throwing up "everything" and says that the doctor tells her she must eat slower and chew more (he also said that she must be eating something because she's not dehydrated or loosing weight rapidly). Kay blamed her troubles on everyone else. She took no responsibility for her situation or her choices. After Kay went into her appointment, I breathed a sigh of relief. It was hard work talking to her. I felt like she was so down on the band that I was beginning to wonder if she was right. Then I met Nancy. Nancy had a brightness to her face. I wanted to talk to her. We chatted for a bit and she has had the band about 4 months too. She's thrilled with it and said it's the best thing ever. She said that the day she decided to have the surgury she decided that she was going to think of the whole experience as being "great". It is a miracle procedure and so she's going to act like it's one. She was so excited and enthusiastic. Guess how much weight she's lost...35 pounds! After talking to these two very different women, I decided to take the same attitude as Nancy. This journey is going to be great. It maybe hard once and awhile, but it will still be great. I also decided that I'm going to make sure to get rid of any negative person in my life. I also am going to work really hard at seeing the positive things myself. Megan
  11. I also felt weak and short of breath for several weeks. Gosh, I was winded for.. 4, 6 weeks? Try milk and broth. They may go easier than protein shakes.

    Incision problems?

Hi, before you get too concerned about your body rejecting the port as suggested above, you should call your doctor, make an appointment to go and see them. I had my surgery on 7 april, and 10 weeks later, my large incision has only just now finally healed completely. I had an infection on the left edge, which caused open wound about 1/4 inch across. I had 3 courses of strong antibiotics to help rid the infection.

    Still feeling unwell

12.4 Kg (27 pounds) is a good weight loss for the first 4 weeks. Follow the program requirements. A lack of energy could be caused my not following the Vitamin or Fluid requirements. I had RNY gastric bypass surgery and the program did not have me transition to solid foods until week 9. So there is no need to push into solids because it can be hard on the stomach (and can cause nausea). Walking at least 30 minutes each day can help ease the pain quite a bit.
  15. I started eating pureed foods 1 week post op as per nutrionist....I've been eating tuna w/miracle whip blended in the magic bullet (love that thing), scrambled eggs, chicken breast w/broth blended in magic bullet, cottage cheese, applesauce, sweet potato and green Beans (magic bullet). My favorite is the tuna w/miracle whip.......it's heavenly - I use 1 small can (3oz) tuna and 1 Tbls of miracle whip and measure out 4 tbls of it....yum!! Now I want to leave work for lunch. I'm allowed 4 tbls of any of the above 3 times a day....I also still have 3 Protein shakes in between (Unjury) with 4 oz of milk. I haven't really been hungry at all. Good luck everyone!!

    me 3 weeks after surgery

  17. Oh also exercise. I still don't do any. I am looking at knee surgery to happen about the 2nd week of October. So I'm looking forward to that even though I'm more nervous about it then I ever was with my wls. But I want to start pairing exercise with this because I even though I'm lighter, I still feel tired and heavy. I have no energy and I know its because I'm not very active.

    Energy

the first 3 days after banding all i pretty much did was sleep and drink (99% sleep, 1% drink). then the rest of the week i was awake but like someone else mentioned, even to get something to drink i had to really *think* about it.. now my energy is through the roof! i have a desk job and find myself needing to walk every 1/2 hour or so. just to get up and move! good luck.

    Insurance Finally Verified...have a question

Finally got my Anthem Blue Cross policy requirements confirmed. Standard 6 months of nutrition visits (should be done in May), psych evaluation in April and a $3500 out of pocket maximum which I have no idea what that exactly means. Google describes OOP max as the maximum amount you have to pay out of pocket (copays/deductibles/coinsurance) before everything is covered at 100%...which makes sense. Benefits lady has me confused and they wonโ€™t be back in the office until next week. In her email she made it sound like I have to pay all that before surgery. Anyone have any insight and/or tips on this? Do I need to start saving $$$? ๐Ÿ˜–

    Still feeling unwell

I only lost 14lbs in my 4 weeks post surgery. I started Vitamin Patches right away. So I didn't get tired. Without those I definitely got tired. I never had nausea but I know others that have. I was pretty active right away...but may not be typical? I suggest you check in with your doctor to make sure everything is ok. Can't hurt.

    I'm HUNGRY

I am annoyed by the "head hunger" sayings I hear a lot, thankfully just on the Internet and not from my doctors. I get that people eat for emotional reasons, but people who struggle with obesity have more hunger. Real hunger. That is part of the struggle. I figure if you consume less that 1000 calories that is real hunger, although post surgery it is less intense, for me anyways. At a few days post op at a few hundred calories a day my body was very hungry. Lots of empty stomach growling and feelings, but it was manageable and although it started to feel more like old hunger lately. I had a lot more hunger and thirst before I progressed to mush phase. Today, at 4 weeks post op, I still get hungry, but it is much more manageable then before, and of course I get full and feel full on so much less food. Why wouldn't it be hunger anyway? The surgery doesn't take away our ability to feel hunger. Everything still works, it is just modified. I hear a lot of people have the expectation that there won't be hunger, but I don't know where it comes from. I agree hunger is scary after surgery, but I believe the hunger is real and normal and real food will do a better job a controlling it when you get to that phase. I'm HUNGRY

I felt the same way. Everyone one told me it was "head hunger," but to me it felt differently than the "head hunger" I feel now. After a 3 or 4 days that passed. I do experience the occasional cravings, but nothing intense like I did. I am 18 days post op now, so I am not an expert, but I will say it is tons better for me. You might ask your dr or nut about how much is too much to drink. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Hi all New to this forum but had band for three years. Been a bit of a roller coaster. Did well at first lost 65lb then had barium test to tight so they took some out. stay stableish slowly going up weight after that but know where near goal weight. Realised that I had wheat intolerance so cut that out think swelling from that was confusing issue so essentially gone from really tight to no restriction without fill. Don't think I ever experienced sweet spot. Anyway put on 14lb over summer arghh! Went back for fill last fri all this week been fine actually been grate felt like I finally hit sweet spott not hungry eating small portions and satisfied yay I thinks! then yesterday in morning I had made some mini sausage with bacon for my sons lunch and popped one in my mouth without thinking doh!! Soon as I did it I thought ah that not gone work so I spat it out unfortunately some of the bacon went down without being chewed I think u know where this is going so must have got trapped tried eating as normal that night oh no that not happening not staying down. So today pain in chest able to drink 1/3rd cup hot tea okish. Been making lots of tea today Have decided to do liquid tomorrow as well as today and see if irritation swelling gos down so don't want to go back and have some out took me year n half to get back to this after last time. Any thought has anyone had this experience and had it sort itself out? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    First mushy meal...too much??

Hi, I started mushies yesterday, my doctor only wants me to have one mushy meal a day. I too had problems after eating, I'm not sure if it was guilt. I've worked so hard to lose the weight I have and eating this meal made me feel like I blew it. I get restricted in 3 weeks. Can't wait.
