I am 3 weeks post op and was just allowed today to start soft foods. I am so excited to finally have some chicken salad with puréed carrots. I never thought I would say that. I am done 22.5 lbs and am super happy. Good luck.

    Hungry

I am 2. 5 months post op. I had the same thing when I was about 2 weeks out. I was thinking that the hunger was very shocking because I thought there would be no hunger.I was quite worried. I read a lot about how it is gas and the gas feels like hunger. I swear it was hunger pains. I can say it goes away. I am now 2.5 months out and I eat every 3 hours. I now do not have hunger until right before the 3 hour mark and sometimes 4 hours. I then eat a 3 to 4 oz of protein or healthy snack and I am just fine. No more hunger pains.

    Hungry Or Not????

If you had asked me a month or two ago, if I had a sweet tooth, I would have said yes!! However, I have noticed that since the preop diet, I haven't had any "cravings" for sweets like before. Before, I could think about a sweet and just have to go get it. I even noticed that when I went out to eat with the family this week, one child ate ice cream and the other ate a piece of cheesecake, I didn't even desire them. Talk about a shock because these are two of my FAVORITE desserts! Having said that, for my Protein shakes on the liquid diet, I did choose the chocolate flavor and now that I am on mushies, my yogurt is key lime pie flavor. So I guess I am getting my sweet fix flavor without the calories of the real thing.
  5. Are you sure it is hunger and not just longing? ;-P I certainly have that- when I see food on TV or smell cooking. But my hunger is gone. Sometimes excess acid can feel like hunger- are you taking an acid inhibitor of any kind? With my 2 week pre-op and three weeks of post-op liquids I can certainly sympathize ! When I finally got to have mushies on Monday my first scrambled egg tasted like manna from heaven! I tell myself this is a short time in a long life and is worth it to let your stomach heal properly!
  6. I truly believe the first few weeks are the toughest. I'm 8 weeks out and its still hard. There is a GIGANTIC mental component to this surgery. I WANT things more than I am hungry for things....thats been my biggest battle. Good luck! And know that you can vent, cry and complain to all of us and we vent cry and complain with you! Share a victory and we all cheer with you! You are not alone! Hang tough!
  7. I couldn't agree with this more. It has been a huge mental battle for me. More so then I could have expected. I think that's been the toughest. Wanting to feel normal with everyone else at meal time. It gets better though. As far as the hunger thing goes, I was one of those people that was ALWAYS hungry pre-op. I'm 2 weeks post op and I still get hungry when it's time to eat, but it's nowhere near the insatiable feelings I used to battle. I'll take a little hunger anyday when compared to the other side. Just remember to stay strong. It gets better as your diet progresses and I'm soooo looking forward to mushies! Good luck!
  8. It will all be worth it, and you can eventually have those things again. My hunger is mostly gone also, but I do miss certain foods, especially if I see someone else eating one of my favorites or a commercial, or we have these little festivals around here, and of course they have the whole town smelling delicious!! But it's more of wanting the taste than actually being hungry for me. I remind myself why I did this, come here for support or to read, and I love to look at before/after pics for inspiration and motivation. You can do it, a wk or 3 wks isn't a big deal in the big scheme of things. We're here for ya!
  9. The first NSV I had this week was walking into the hospital from the parking deck without huffing and puffing and no leg cramping! I used to work in the hospital and even though I walked this three times per week it was a lot harder! The second NSV is that I am 4 weeks post op on Tuesday and I have lost 9 inches total in 5 weeks! So excited!! I am also down 12 lbs thus far but will weigh again on Tuesday as that is my weigh day!

    Irritated tummy

When, or if, you have been nauseous or vomitting and you go back to liquids for a day or so to help calm the tummy back down, do you do clear liquids or full liquids? I have been nauseous on and off for a few days now and have went back to full liquids like soups. But that has not helped the nasuea. So I guess clear liquids is the way to go? I am about 5 weeks out so am supposed to be eating soft foods. Doesn't sound appealing at all. Just the thought of eating makes my saliva glands go into overdrive...in not a good way.

    Feeling Weak

I alternated between resting and walking. The most important thing is are you getting your Water in? Are you taking the Vitamins recommended? I take Optisource from Walgreens. I am suppose to take 4 of these a day. I also take sublingual Vitamin b. It would perhaps help you more if you spread your shakes throughout the day. Instead of two big ones, try 4 smaller ones. Walking will help I had mental fog for over 2 weeks. Of course you are going to get tired out, you had major surgery, I'm 3 weeks out and I still get tired. I just got up to 400 calories, I was at 300- 350 for the first 3 weeks and I did feel I was getting a little more tired, I was also getting less than 40 grams of a Protein a day. Try not to concentrate so much on the bad, and focus on every day is better than the day before. I was on 14 day pre-op shake (3 a day only) then I was sleeved on June 4th. I'm still on full liquids until I see nutritionist again on July 9th. That a full 7 weeks of liquids. I can do it, it's doable and if I continue to tell myself it's doable, it will be. Make sure you get your vitamins in, get your water in and as much protein as you can do. If shakes are becoming intolerable, try getting in a little Isopure with added MIO to make it taste better. Icy Orange goes well with the Orange MIO and the Green Tea with lemon goes well with the Lemon flavor. My taste buds changed and I hate shakes now, it sorta gags me, but I'm getting them down. Positive thoughts and best wishes.

Samething as me today. I am constantly manipulating ratios week by week just to see what happens. Yesterday was a high stress day for me as I had to call a diver to get a huge rope out one of my propellers "wheels". I ate 932 calories though 86pro , 67 carbs, 36 fats. That was one of the best days eating wise as far as volume. Today I can already tell My stomachs sick so its gonna be not much today. Todays gonna be a Water and Protein shake day. It just our bodies adjusting to something.
  15. I am 3 weeks post-op and can still only take small sips; however, I take them all day long and have been able to stay hydrated and have not had any headaches (to which I am very susceptible). I think if you are able to drink all day long, you will be fine. I had trouble sleeping the first week after the surgery; however, thank God, that went away and now I sleep really sound.

    Feeling Weak

I was told that if you are tired and week that is a sign of dehydration. I would say try to drink more liquid or try adding G2 to help.
  17. I'm 24 weeks out. I drink Fluid all day long! I cannot live without my diet lipton tea and Water...lol And yeah Protein was normal the last time they checked. I'm thinking maybe my bloodpressure is low? Idk. I just wanna feel healthy again.

    restless legs.

I'm thinking it might be because of my bed because my bed vibrates and also raises by the ahead and the foot . it's probably 1 of the first home medical beds I had it for 3 years now lucky me.

    Wish me Luck

The first week on clears were hard.. couldn't get a lot in but i went from only being able to take in 16 oz to at least 50 oz. Now i've started mushies and i could only take a couple of bites of the things i've tried (crabcake and egg/cheese, probably not the best choices but i was craving them) before i started feeling sick. I did not enjoy them. The first week i lost 14 pounds, the second week i lost 2 pounds and now on my 3rd week i haven't lost anything yet. It's frustrating the dramatic difference but hey a lost is a lost. If I didn't have the sleeve I probably would have given up if I saw I didn't lose weight. I know the weight will come off. I am concentrating on my Protein, not getting enough and i will start my Vitamins.

    Band Filled Day Of Operation

Where any of you filled the day of? If so how much? My mom also said that he streesed how well I did in the pre op diet.. Maybe that's why? Not too sure but I will be asking him at my post op appt this week.

    Firemen with the Band

I had to wait about 4 weeks. Now the gear I was wearing looked more like a tarp on me then anything. I noticed that my helmet doesn't fit very well but I refuse to give up my new yorker. Plus I kinda fell off the wagon and am getting myself back ontrack.
  22. Post op life NOW is great. liquids sucked, but was manageable. After getting to soft foods this week, I've been happy, haha. Don't hope you can do something, make up your mind and leave no room for doubt. WIth pre op diets, and then the surgery, and the hard work you're going to put in to your new lifestyle, you'll drop those 100 pounds and reshape your body completely.
  23. I forgot I was up walking within a few hours post op. I felt like I got punched in my stomach, I had no drain and was home the next day. Back to work in a week.
  24. Its been 4 months since surgery today, I have lost exactly 40lbs today and I am loving my band. I have not had so much energy in about 8yrs and I can actually make it up a flight of stairs without being out of breathe.. this was the best decision I have made!!!! I have about 25-30lbs to go and there is no doubt that I can make it!!!!! I had a tough few weeks where I lost nothing at all and actually gained but I cut some calories and up'd the workout at the gym and now back on track!!!!!! I actually lost 7 of those lbs just since last friday and am so happy about that!!!

    Need advice

I have cigna and was denied a few weeks ago, now they are even refusing to pay for my consult that I had with the surgeon. I called them before I even went to the dr to see if they covered the band they told me yes, then I get a denial letter and a statement saying that wls isn't covered with my plan. I told them that I had spoke to several people at cigna and they looked at my plan and they had told me it was covered. I have heard so many negative things about cigna, like they will require you to go on a year supervised diet and they still not cover the surgery after you have done every thing that they want you to do. I am taking out a loan and will be a self pay. Good luck, but I just felt like I was fighting a battle that I wouldn't win.
