    Having a hard time eating

Kitty0422, how far post surgery are you? What type of surgery did you have? I have a stricture and I am 10 weeks post RNY gastric bypass. My problems started around 3 1/2 weeks post op. I was incredibly nauseous and had pressure in my throat and pouch. I could not tolerate shakes or anything. Do you have any symptoms besides vomiting? 2. Hello, I just now found this place. Better late than never I guess. on July 9th 2018 I weighed 508lbs. I am a 38 year old male who is 6'1. At the end of my rope I didn't know where to turn next. It was during one frustrated exchange with the CEO at my work during lunch that he asked why I didn't consider a weight loss surgery. I quickly replied I had, but the companies insurance didn't cover it. He made a promise to me that if I gave it my best shot he would make sure it was covered. I began working with my primary on the referral while he began working with our health insurance. Our plan year rolled on January 1 and the Sleeve and Bypass were included. I started with the local weight and wellness center in November and in May I completed the 6 months of required program required by the insurance. I am scheduled for the Sleeve on Monday June 10th 2019. As of today I am 428 lbs. I have been doing the two weeks of 3 protein shakes with a small 300 calorie meal as ordered by my nutritionist and have stuck to it rigidly. So Monday's the big day. I have been given 4 weeks off paid from my work for recovery and now my nerves are kicking up. In seek of actual stories about what the days after surgery were like I asked my trusted friend google which lead me here. I have been reading everything for the past two days and I kind of wish my program had pointed me in this direction sooner.

    Pre Surgery Jitters

I understand where you are at. I’m scheduled for 10/1 and have been riding the teeter totter the last month or so. One day I feel surgery is right, the next day I’m in doubt. I know that surgery “is” the right decision. However, I do think doubt is part of a healthy decision making process. I have only discussed my surgery with my husband. Keeping your decision private may be the best thing for you.

    The Maintenance Thread

Froze at first when I was losing. I got about 10 lbs below where I am now and didn't feel good, so adjusted goal up a bit. As soon as I put on the weight it actually helped a huge amount. Now I'm not cold all the time, yes I run way colder than I used to and lack insulation, but its not like it was before.. it's actually nice I don't need A/C. My wife is the exact opposite, hot constantly so we have quite the battle in our house with the HVAC Another thing that happened was it HURT to sit, I lost the tailbone fat pad and it was painful, gaining the 10 lbs back solved that too, which was nice...

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I got the call this afternoon. I check into the hospital at 10:30 am on Monday, 6/10. Surgery is scheduled for 12:30 pm. I’ll update you all when I am coherent! Pray for me and send good thoughts for a great surgical team, smooth surgery, no nausea and vomiting, no problems with gas, ability to walk and relieve gas, minimal pain from surgery and relief from arthritis with new meds post surgery, and smooth sailing with the post op diet. Excited and nervous and ready!✝️🙏🏾😳😁
  7. VSG 11/17 155lbs BMI 27 Much of the same from the months prior. Getting checked out by surgeon about GERD & if i need a Conversion. We'll see what the tests say. Otherwise trying to settle firmly into maintenance. Food remains mostly the same but i did give up yogurt to see if it was prompting too may dumping episodes. Problem is i am also no longer eating the foods that i ate along with the yogurt so I'm not certain. Pics attached
  8. Thank you for that encouragement. It is now almost one year since I’ve had my sleeve done and I can happily say it was the right decision for me. I started at 205 pounds the day of surgery (lost 7 pounds during the preop diet) and I’m now 165 pounds (only 10 pounds away from goal). That may not seem like a big weight loss but I’ve maintained it for like 6 months so far. I feel great, confident, and like I have my life back.

    Last meal!

My surgery is scheduled for 7/8/19. My final weigh in is 6/18. I am in the 35 BMI so juggling to keep above 35 BMI and below what I was at last weigh in. We went to a nice homemade Italian restaurant and had manicotti, had a cupcake and a couple cookies yesterday. Told my husband if he wants to eat out this is the week. I just want a good piece of cake...the bakery I got the cupcake and cookies from were not that good. Lol. I will be getting me some spicy Asia food! As that is my favorite! Hoping I can still enjoy spicy when this is done.
  10. Before WLS I took 9 pills a day for high blood pressure, I had severe sleep apnea and I had to take medicine to keep fluid off my legs because of lymphedema. As of 10 months post surgery I take zero pills, no longer have sleep apnea and have zero fluid issues.
  11. I'm Luteal so effectively fasting (for more than 14/10) is in the tank until after the Red Death. I literally need to eat everything lol.
  12. Looking for some help and advice on a few things. Looks like am will be getting approved for surgery in late July 2019. I have lost 30+ pounds but I feel like the closer I get to that time the more depressed and anxious I am. Also, despite losing some of this weight I am very self-conscious right now. I don't feel like I am in a great place but I am hinging a lot on the long term of feeling better and being able to do more. The transition to healthier food hasn't been bad for me, but I am often hungry. I am not a binge eater but I have a healthy appetite and quit when I feel full (problem is getting to full!) I also don't have many friends and I have been very guarded with the information about having this done. My parents and mother-in-law know that I am getting something done to fix my GERD problems but they don't know what. I really don't want to tell anyone at all. I have been eating healthy so people are already seeing my weight changes, I just want to go with that and not make a scene (I have a weird personality, I like being social and I am funny but I also often times like blending in). Anyway, just curious for some advice. Also, struggling with some ideas post op, I don't really like eggs, cottage cheese or seafood so I am a little worried. Have found that I enjoy the flavored tuna packets, cheeses, lunchmeats and some veggies which my nutritionist said could sub out for some of those things I don't enjoy eating.
  13. I'm about 7.5 months out and reached the 100 mark this morning (down 90 from surgery date)! I have 10 pounds to my physician's goal, and 25 pounds to my personal goal of 150, which puts me at a healthy BMI for my height on all those terrible, old, outdated (but still used) charts. I hope to be at my personal goal by my birthday, November 10th. I'm still really struggling with being active enough, which is becoming more necessary as the loss has slowed significantly (averaging about 1.5 pounds per week for the last couple of months). I have all the tools and resources to exercise, I'm just... not doing it. Time to get my @ss in gear so that I can meet my birthday goal! It's only 22 weeks away, so it's a tight goal to lose 25 pounds in that time frame. I look very different than I did 7 months ago, and about a month and a half ago I had to change all my work directory pictures because I was getting confused looks and several outright "your picture looks nothing like you" comments. It feels great.
  14. Had my Gastric bypass on May 8. Menopausal for almost 10 months. Then out of the blue....I see Red 🥺 The physiological changes in my body are obvious....but was not expecting this. Have the headache and back pain with the menses...it is what it is, but I was kind of enjoying not having my monthly visit. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Walking

You can do as much walking as you have energy to do. Break it up into small 5 or 10 minute walks instead of one big long walk if you want to. Yes, it's different being on a two week liquid diet, but it's perfectly doable and you won't die from it. 🙂

    Revision to RNY

I am 3.5 weeks post op with a revision from sleeve to bypass (RNY). Since April 22 I have lost nearly 10 kgs. That is due to the pre-op preparation diet and the restriction on eating post op. I didn’t have diagnosed GERD but had severe reflux and a hiatus hernia. I asked for a hernia repair and a re-sleeve (I had gained weight starting about 7-8 years post sleeve) and he told me that it would not resolve the reflux and the hernia would likely come back. He said my only option was the bypass. Since the operation I have had zero reflux. I have been told to take anti-reflux medication for two months post op, but I sometimes forget with no noticeable change. So far I am very happy. I want to get down to 65 kgs again. My weight loss has slowed now to about 2 kgs per week. I am happy with that and expect it to slow even further to 1 kg per week. I am currently at about 80 kgs. I am still pretty much only able to eat mushies - I have tried some firmer food and unfortunately it tends to stick and then come back up in a foamy mess. So slowly slowly seems to be the motto.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Black jeggings, oh I used to envy Fluffy Chix and the rest because I never could find them to fit my former fat booty without going to Catherine's or Added Dimensions in Columbus. Well something seems to have happened on my way to the Zoo to see the kinfolk. These are not the largest Wally World stocks, but one down. And on top my my firstest Junior Top, stripes, a size 19 and it says " I do rule my world" not painted, not hot bonded like at the Fair but Honest to God embriodery, like the young small girls wear! Maybe a small victory, on my feet a pair of yellow non- skid socks. Every time I have an Endoscopy at OSU, they give me a new pair. I think the total is 12 pairs, got one set at surgery, another from the Week stay where I received my PICC line. So I will be able to open my own Hosiery Emporium pretty soon because another pair will be coming my way next Wednesday. Pretty soon they should be able to put all my internal photos in a scrapbook. ❤😛💕

    Forbidden Foods

My doctors/nutritionist hasnt said much of anything about having no-go foods. I think their idea is that as long as we dont injure ourselves then go at it. If we then get sick, well then we know that it wasnt a good idea since everyone is unique in what they can eat after surgery. Ive even eaten bread, albeit the really dark (but soft) bread that we have here in Europe along with hummus. I had no problems with it at all (after chewing it well ofc). I wonder though if I dont have a pouch of steel since im only 10 days out. Ive even done seeds with no problems. Admittedly, Ive kept my portions really small, but everything has gone down just fine. The only problem Ive had with food so far was a mild dump from a nurse giving me non-watered down juice just after surgery (grrr). Still not up to normal foods yet, but I will start slowly with that in a few days.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

More than likely, but honestly it’s hard to tell because I lost ALL of my hair 10 years ago when I was on chemo and it never came all the way back. I think it’s thinned a bit, but I didn’t have a full head of lustrous, thick hair. I did think of one victory I’ve just had though: After an epic 5 week struggle, I’m FINALLY FINALLY in the 180’s. Lol, weighed in at 189.4 this morning. Took me from April 29 to June 6 to get from 199.8 to 189.4 Pathetic. Like I said.... this last month has basically just sucked out loud and I’m grateful beyond words it’s in the rear-view mirror.

    Cigna (Recent Apporval)

I personally pick August 2019 because I will be out of the country all of July 2019. During my surgeon hunt, I had Mcdreamy office staff treat me like that but the surgeon was amazing. I was like hell no, I will not be treated like this and look for somebody else. Plus, I found out were Mcdreamy was going to preform the surgery at a hospital that was out of network with my insurance. So, that was another reason why I did not go with Mcdreamy office. Yes, he was super cute and oh man... so good looking! I memorized the who baratric guidelines for Cigna and got most of my appointment done before I even met my surgeon. So, I had a quick approval from Cigna. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Help

I take cheap vitamins! haha I use Flinstones Complete because if you co pare centrum complete has the same components and nutritions says its great. I also use Caltrate bone and health D3 600 calcium. walmart brand B complex and I do add Magnesium glycinate 400 chewable just to keep me regular because I dont like to take milk of mag and believe I stay away from food that may result in dumping syndrome now way in haities do I want to expeience that! (splenda does not give me dumping) Ive lost 78pounds since January 29th and 47 pounds since day of surgery 4/10/19 (8weeks). if I slack on vitamins I stall its wierd so I dont miss anymore! I had 1 complication it was a kidney stone but I heard its rare painful but rare amd mostly guys develop them. my doc says prob because I already had kidney issues to begin with so he doesnt really consider it complication. I consider my surgery complication free! I love it. Im only 36 and best decision ever! I used to rely on food. i find myself chewing up a piece of meat and spitting it out now thinking what the heck I dont want this right now. its totally cool but wierd!
  22. Same happened to me but I'd rate my pain at a 7/10 (I've been at a 10/10, my personal worst, on the pain scale and needed to be hospitalized so...) Maybe your perception of the pain is off a little but if you are truly at a 10/10 I'd recommend going to the hospital because it may be an emergent situation. Good luck 💙
