  1. @@OutsideMatchInside Thank goodness someone gets it! Too bad the others don't get this is not about a piece of bacon. This is about helping others. It's everyone simply excusing the behaviors and worse yet, telling her to ignore her doctors orders and move on. Yes, we are all human but when you go through months/years of preparation and in the first week that's what you do? I don't know about you but honestly I was devastated everytime someone gets on here and they are denied by their insurance and cannot pay out of pocket. I remember being so I'll that my doctor told me I had one foot on a banana peel and one foot in the grave. I just don't get squandering your 2nd chance in life. And for those of you saying well, maybe I wasn't that sick...I ask then why did you have this surgery? Then we have newbies that simply disregard doctors orders and even worse yet, give some new person medical advice that you know they want to hear. What the heck??? We are not doctors nor do we know why her doctor has her on a liquid diet for so long. She was a revision, right? Why didn't the first one work? I don't know this nor does anyone else but maybe, just maybe there is more to the story. Others read this and assume that oh, 1 tiny piece of bacon didn't hurt her so I would probably be ok too? This is not all about the OP. This is about people who have not had the surgery yet, or just had it or have not even gotten to their goals giving the OP advice to disregard doctors orders. Some people want to hear those words.....and will act on it. Too bad if people think I am being mean. I think I am being upfront and direct. Read whatever you all want in to that but someone has to shake some sense into those that just don't get it. Ok.....I am officially done ranting.
  2. If the piece of bacon was so small, why even eat it? 1 slice of bacon contains 3g of Protein, and the "tiny" amount you had couldn't have had much more than 1g if even that. That amount of bacon wouldn't have cured any weakness or dizziness you were experiencing. Not with the nutritional value (or lack thereof) that it has. It is all in your head, and you were creating reasons to allow yourself to make bad choices. You have not been skipping over negative comments, you've been replying back to them with aggression and immaturity. You can go back and read tons of topics similar to what you have posted on this forum. People who respond similarly to you end up getting MORE replies they hate, and more people that tell them they were wrong because from the way they reply it doesn't seem like they get it. People who respond with grace, admit their mistake, and accept it aren't met with harshness. Those posts disappear because there's no reason for them to continue. Reading your posts, it doesn't seem like you understand. "I've heard hunger can be dehydration but I don't feel dehydrated" most of us don't understand the difference. You can not biologically feel hunger after sleeve surgery, you're no longer making the hunger hormone. "I don't think the amount of bacon I ate was wrong" It WAS wrong, because bacon has no nutritional value and is solid, and ANY amount of solids, especially a WEEK after surgery can tear your stomach open and result in your death. You mentioned that you had a band to sleeve revision. These bad choices that you made are the reason your band didn't work for you. You need to learn to make better choices so that your sleeve works for you. Your doctor is frustrated with you because he knows you make bad choices and nothing you have shown him indicates that will change, therefore he regrets your surgery. You think that no one here would care if you die. Umm... we would. People responding with harshness are doing so because they don't want to see that. Many WLS programs require people to attend therapy or support meetings. I would highly suggest you start taking part in such things, they will help you. They have helped many of us.

    All Protein Shake Diet

Going back to the liquid diet should definitely help! I was Lap Band -> Sleeve revision, so I think your situation might be similar to what I went through during my pre-op diet. I dropped 20 lbs in those 2 weeks before my surgery. Just be sure you're getting your Protein in, 70-100 g/day, and 64 oz of Water. Think of it like a little "reset" - Best of luck!

    Starting over with the band..

HI Secret, I was banded in Feb, 2008 and I am now a revision to RNY as of 10/5/2016. It took me 2.5 years to lose 80 pounds with the band, and now, at 9 months out from RNY, I am down to 142 (69 pounds down and almost to goal). I will say good luck to you, you will need it - and using your word - BUUUUUTTT - my surgeon says that it is not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" that it comes out. It is a foreign object and might cause problems for you in the future. My mother had her's out 3 years after getting banded. She ended up with an erosion. And as of 2 weeks ago also had a revision to RNY. It would be cool if it does work for you long term. I can eat better now. SALADS, chicken, beef. Happy days! Good luck to you :-)

    Any Regrets?

I had my revision from the Lap Band to RNY on 10/5 and I couldn't be happier! I can actually EAT right. I am almost to goal at 142. With any surgeries there will be complications, and for those who have the complications I'm sure there are regrets (sorry to hear Gina Campbell!). Just wish I had had this surgery back in 2008 instead of the Band. I'm happy now! Don't regret it in the slightest (ok I have those days when I wish I could eat like real crap but they are few and far between).

    Hypothyroidism & Diabetes

Hi Mammysm -Donna: I got my sleeve revision with a new surgeon, finally my sleeve is the correct size. I'm following a high Protein low carb diet. In 3 months have lost 40 lbs. I currently eat 500 - 800 calories, 25 - 50g carbs, 80g+ of protein, 64 oz of Water and exercise. Bariatriceating.com also on Facebook has taught me a lot has been the icing on the cake. Hope this helps. Thanks SoLiel

    Hypothyroidism & Diabetes

This message is for Soli31, I have read your posts and would really like to talk with you, because your circumstances sounds exactly like mine right now. I had the Lapband, had it removed, got the sleeve, very little weight loss, looks like it is too big, the pouch, hoping it can be revised, dr and I are discussing it. Please email me or Facebook me. DonnaRobbinsSmith or Mammysm@aol.com would really like to talk if you don't mind. Had upper GI so far, and the Endoscopy yesterday. Thx. Donna

3wks post op on reg food

What are you eating on the new diet? I don't think your doctor would want to sabotage you, so that's probably not the issue at all. Doctors all do things differently. Are you getting protein first? Plenty of water? Could that time of the month be here or coming soon? It's frustrating I'm sure, but as long as you're following a good diet with protein first, lower carbs, and getting all your water in, it will work. It's my understanding that a revision patient doesn't lose as quickly too. Keep that in mind.
  9. I am currently starting the process of , hopefully, getting a revision from sleeve to bypass. I had my sleeve in 2012. At my heaviest i was 365#. I was down to 248# and my life turned upside down. My husband and i separated and I moved out of state. No excuses....i failed my sleeve. Self esteem took a heck of a shot, i stopped exercising, and also was eating carbs because it was one thing i could keep down. I am back at 300#. Like you....I would try to eat a variety of Proteins....and end up in the bathroom with my head in a bucket. I STILL have that issue at least 4 or 5 times a week. And now my GERD is getting worse....even with the prescription meds I take for it. The insurance i had wouldnt cover a bariatric Dr in my area....they wanted me to return to the state where i had the surgery.....but my divorce was final in may and I got new insurance that will allow me to see a bariatric Dr here. One thing I am planning on doing differently is getting some therapy and having more support structure. I never addressed my food addiction....and being a chef, I obsess about food constantly. Im new to this site....so I am also interested in seeing replies to your post....and hope YOU will post throughout your journey as well. I wish you nothing but the best and look forward to hear more. ~Shell

    Starting to research the process

I would recommend against lapband. Many doctors are no longer performing this operation. The individual that I knew who had a lapband had it removed and had a revision to RNY gastric bypass. This was because the band was wearing into his stomach and it was about to rupture. That was an extremely dangerous situation. There are many forms of bariatric surgery today such as RNY gastric bypass, the gastric sleeve, duodenal switch. These are a much better choice. I would also recommend finding a bariatric surgery center of excellence in your area. This is like a one stop shop. Everything in one location. You might do an internet search to find one that is close.
  11. Hello ladies and gents, fellow bariatric patients, I'm currently scheduled for a revision from the gastric sleeve to the gastric by-pass on July 26th. I was hoping there were some people on these forums who might have gone through similar experiences so they would be able to tell me what to expect. Here's a background on my surgical journey... I had the gastric sleeve done in 2013 with a preoperative weight of 276lbs (I am female, 5'5") and for the first three months everything went textbook well, healing-wise, weight loss wise- everything. Then, suddenly the weight loss trudged on very slowly and I began having issues digesting. Specifically, terrible GERD, stomach pain, vomiting, horrific constipation, onsets of feeling extremely faint and heart palpitations. This continues on for the remainder of a year until my doctor (who claimed all of this was normal) ordered a barium swallow test. The test showed slow gastric emptying and pyloric spasms which would explain the stomach pain and vomiting. We ordered two different endoscopies with two different doctors who concluded everything was otherwise normal. My surgeon encouraged me to simply exercise more and continue high Protein, high Fiber, low carbohydrate dieting- which I did. Fast forward two frustrating years I ended up having a thirty three pound regain, from my lowest weight of 203lbs. I was vomiting at least 4-5 times a week and unable to handle most meats (especially beef), noodles and many "rich" or "thick" foods. I was forced to eat mainly carbs since it seemed to be the only thing I could keep down. Today, I've since become a full blown vegetarian weighing around 212lbs and struggling to get my digestion and weight under control. I'm sick of having to go into the bathroom in a public restaurant in front of family and friends because I couldn't handle a dish. I have horrible heartburn, constipation and I vomit LESS (maybe once every week or so) but only because I avoid the foods that seem to trigger it. I have low self-confidence and feel like I've somehow failed to make myself healthier. I have a new surgeon who suggested a revision, which he explained should improve upon my digestion and help me lose additional weight. He also preformed another endoscopy and found that the gastric sleeve did not shape correctly... I'm afraid this surgery. It is a new surgeon, a more invasive procedure, a deeply more "body altering" decision. All of these things leave me feeling rather anxious as what to expect. I don't want something to go wrong with this procedure too and I don't want to feel like I made the wrong decision... again. But I feel MISERABLE now. I know it cant go on this way... Has anyone else been through similar symptoms before? Had a revision from sleeve to bypass? Have any advice? Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

    What to expect post op?

My pain was pretty bad through my hospital stay so I was having to have the pain med dispenser button thing. That helped a ton. I almost finished my pain meds that I took home but not quite. My incision sites were sore for about a month, but I had my lap band removed and was revised to the sleeve so that's probably why I hurt more.
  13. Hi! I had my lap-band revision to sleeve exactly 1 month ago. I'm super happy and I feel more active than ever! I'm trying to get as much Protein that I can but I'm still find it difficult to eat much. My starting weigh was 175 and I'm at 158 right now. I haven't lost any weight in more than a week now so I hope I can break this stall... Overall great experience and my incisions are beautifully healed. Will tricare prime cover follow up?

Tricare covered my lapband surgery. Then June 14 2016 I had a revision to the sleeve. I paid nothing after either one. You need to try again. I Did not have any health problems. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using the BariatricPal App

    Possible revision?

Normally the insurance co denies the revision. You are having complications which is classified as. "Technical failure of the band" That means you qualified for the orig surgery and you had it removed because of complications. Once you are denied you or your surgeon can appeal. You will prob get denied which is not unexpected. At that point you are allowed an external appeal who is unrelated to Insur co If they deny you your best chances are with LINDSTROM OBESity assoc. You can google them or I can get you their number. NYS has external review. This is your best shot so it must be done right. You need all medical records and documentation showing complications, attempt to lose weight, and ideally while you are waiting for initial appeal, see a nutricianist a couple times to document your weight loss attempts. In have oxford. They denied twice and insurance co was overturned on external appeal

    Possible revision?

@@Steven1954, what do you mean by "external appeal?" I expect to be told very soon that my band must be removed and believe that my insurance company will deny revision to sleeve.
  19. I'm glad they can do yours at the same time. My date is July 20th and I can't wait. Hope it's a good experience. Good luck to you on the revision. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  20. So I had a band that was removed in Dec 14 due to slipped band. Since then I have now gained about 90 lbs, the Bariatric surgeon that took it out just told me last week that he would do a sleeve or bypass on me. My BMI right now is 32, and he wants me to lose 10 lbs before he submits to insurance, my worries are what if the insurance denies me.... Is it a different approval process since it's a revision surgery?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Hi all! I can imagine that you all know how I am feeling, with surgery being in 24 hours! Surgeon keeps repeating how much 'higher' risk I am as I am revising (even though it's been yearssss since I had my my band out) and that I could have a leak and die, and all these terrible things. It's his job to ensure I know what I am doing and I make an educated choice, but i am SO scared now. I wanted to know if a) your surgeon found lots of scar tissue when you revised how long your surgery actually took and c)do you know of people who had leaks etc. I am having afternoon surgery (boo hoo!) and wish that was not the case, as I will have allllllll day to stress.

  25. My husband and I are both getting band to sleeve revisions. The Dr wants to wait a month between surgeries, but we are hoping for 3 weeks. Hopefully late July and mid August.
