Now That You Have Had The Surgury, What Negatives Have You Experienced Thus Far?
B-52 replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The biggest negative is about food. My tastes have definitely changed, and I really don't have much interest in food anymore. It drives my wife nuts when she goes food shopping. She will ask me to put anything I may want/need on the list, and I usually say "Nothing!" I find I will go the grocery store and get foods "just for myself" like stir fry ingredients, yogurt, etc. And also, I waste a lot of food. Everything I get from take out. Or whatever I cook, is always WAY too much. My family took me out to dinner for my birthday. A "Seafood Buffet" complete with a Raw Bar. I did have a few drinks before dinner, but after that I felt bad I hardly ate anything. It was a very expensive place. -
Your hormones are probably going a little crazy right now, not to mention the recent anesthesia. It will get better! Remind your husband how much you will be saving on future grocery bills and get what you need. Fluids and yogurt go down much easier than dense food so don't worry about that. I had a "no chuncks, no chewing rule" for the first two weeks after surgery. If It couldn't go through a strainer I couldn't eat it. I ate yogurt with fruit but always fished the fruit out. Follow your doctors orders, you don't want to hurt your new tummy. There are a lot of people on here that use the ff, sf syrups. I stay away from the artificial sweetners though personally. Watch your sugar with the ice cream this early out...my doc said keep it all under 10 grams sugar, 10 grams fat per serving. Good luck to you! You are allowed a few breakdowns

Will we have to low carb for ever?
JamieLogical replied to ladivaluz806's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that I always have Kashi Cereal or granola with my greek yogurt on days I do cardio. -
I'm doing great too! Five weeks tomorrow, down 20.4 pounds with 45 to go (SW 200 GW 135). Feel basically normal, I just can only eat a little amount of any real food. I usually get in 65-90 grams of protein, but only if I drink a protein shake or protein fruit punch everyday. It's almost impossible to do it with chicken, fish, beans and dairy. I suppose Greek yogurt could get me there, I just like to not overdo dairy.

September 2016 Post VSG Updates
AKB replied to Shell Renewed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@"veryblessed" Congrats on your surgery! I too was sleeved on 9-20, almost 2 wks out now. Stomach pain is minimal , but found I had more abd pain after the staples removed... Strange ..but I Am definitely not pushing the food limits! Sticking w soft foods, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese. I'm finding the foods I crave no longer taste good when I try them. How are you doing now? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I've been doing better since I started having Kashi GoLean and/or Fiber One Cereal pretty much every day. I could handle 1/3-1/2 cup mixed with Fage or Oikos Greek yogurt (which also has fiber) until a couple days ago - I think my fill has kicked in and I could only handle 1/4 cup today. My liquid Vitamin has some fiber in it. For the last 6 weeks or so I've been averaging about 12g fiber, which isn't the 25 you're "supposed" to get, but I figured it was pretty good for my intake. The days I do best are the days when I have my vitamin, high fiber cereal, two veg servings, and a fruit serving. I really prioritize getting veg/fruit after I fit in my protein!

are you able to eat frozen yogurt and if so, should it be non fat, sugar free, or sorbet?

Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt
Forsythia replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the most part, yogurt goes down fairly easily. a 5 or 6 oz container is pretty easy to eat. 2.5 oz of chicken salad and a half ounce of cheese will fill me up quite quickly. The chicken is much more sold and therefore takes up more space, even when I am doing my best to chew chew chew it down. Its been almost two months since the procedure. If someone saw me eating a container of yogurt, they would never realize I had any surgery. Seeing me portion out the chicken salad though makes you realize how small the stomach really is! -
I find different days I can eat different amounts. Some days I can hold 1/2 cup of food. some days 3/4 c of food. Also different foods make a difference to the amount. Sat. I tried to eat 6 ounces of mahimahi, almost threw up. 4 oz of fish is all I can eat. Yogurt I can eat 6 oz.. My calories are between 700-900 60-70 grams of protein. I do not count carbs, but drink about 64 ounces a day. Sophiepants, I am 5'6" too down 73 pounds as of tuesday. I do not use MFP. It is too long to use. I keep everything in a journal, which I carry everywhere with me. I like being accountable for what I eat.

August sleevers progress
crowsnestmama replied to muneca1029's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat a full container of yogurt with granola added in and have been for several months. Dr says it's fine. It's because it's a liquid like food and goes straight through the stomach. -
Feel fabulous.....I'm hiking, kayaking, working out, loving life.....I have no problems (so far) tolerating any food. I'm eating mostly protein.....chicken is my staple for protein---I just cook it different ways.......also eat eggs, salmon, tuna, scallops, lobster, the occasional chili, crockpot chicken is good (chicken needs to be moist), one protein drink/shake a day.....eating less yogurt & cottage cheese since they're binding........a wee bit of veggies or fruit.....the rare occasion will have a teaspoon of rice or potatoes (done that twice since being sleeved). Mostly staying away from carbs......Two to three ounces of protein fills me up, so it's tough getting in the veggies/fruit, or anything else. I don't cook casseroles, lasagna, other pasta dishes, or desserts.....hubby is picky and won't eat any of it........so it's been super easy to eat this way. What are you eating, are you on pureed foods yet? Good luck!

Me too! I have no problem eating a whole container of yogurt. I get full very fast with dense protein though. I can only eat around 2-3 oz the most.

Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt
SnohoGal98296 replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on Day 4 and I ate about 6 oz of yogurt today too - I took me quite a bit a longer, but for about an hour afterwards I felt as if I had eaten a big meal - I had my husband walk me around the yard, it really helped - walking helps with my tummy rumbling and swallowed air pain. But - I was still surprised that I could consume the yogurt - it took about 30-40 minutes total. I do have to say that today is the first time where I feel more human again. The first 3 days (surgery day being day 0) had me feeling pretty wifty in the head, I couldn't drink anything more substantial than water with a splash of G2, I did find that Unjury Chicken Broth really helped me to be able to consume some protein because I was really worried about how little actually calories I was eating. But today is a new day and I am feeling so good that I am not too concerned about the yogurt. Day 14 is when I transition to Soft Foods. -
Super quick question for my fellow sleevers..........For breakfast I ate an entire container of yogurt (I was doing a bad thing, eating at my desk while I was working, so it was probably over a 20 minute period).......it seems like a lot at one setting (5 oz)........is that anyone's normal now, or is that a lot? I didn't feel full nor feel the restriction (I'm loving my sleeve....but miss the 2 or 3 month mark where you could only eat a bite or two LOL) I had a little freak out this morning when I got on the scales, and it looked like I had gained 10 pounds........then I put my glasses on and everything is good except my eyesight LOL .....PHEW!

Will we have to low carb for ever?
Miss Mac replied to ladivaluz806's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yes, but.....................I do eat carbs. but they are non-starchy carbs from non-starchy veggies and one serving of non-starchy fruit like berries. One slice of wheat bread is allowed on my plan, but at Breakfast, not dinner. My plan allows for about 150 carbs, but some of that is from two servings of milk or Greek Yogurt. I find that if I go over fifty carbs, I stall. Still, at 50 carbs, I can eat all of the green veggies and tomatoes I can stand. If I get the mindless nibbles, I will open a can of green Beans and pour them into a bowl. They do a lot less damage than chips. i take thick slices of cucumber and use them to hold bites of tuna salad instaed of using crackers. I have made adjustments, but it's not killing me. As a matter of fact, ditching starchy carbs has made me feel a lot better. So, my taste buds don't like it, Miss Tummy is the boss of me, now The hardest thing for me to give up is bananas, so I will cut them in thirds and have that 1/3 with breakfast, but not at bedtime. I don't like to sleep on carbs. -
I just downed a medium sized bowl of fruit salad in one sitting, how is this possible?!
Brotherman Bill replied to Brotherman Bill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
alright i will stop buying fruit salads, too bad the lentils, beans and tuna all make me feel nauseated after 1-2 spoons maybe i'll stick to liquid protein (shakes and Greek yogurt) for 1 more week. -

Healthy_life2 and Fluffy gave some great advice. They are very knowledgeable, and a treasure to this board. I’m only a month out, but the memories of the first couple of weeks are very fresh. It was rough. I felt like getting my liquids and some protein in was a full time job. Drinking is a lot easier now. By week 3 I could eat very soft cheese (like laughing cow), eggface’s ricotta bake (that recipe is LEGIT), high-protein low-carb yogurt, soft scrambled eggs, puréed salmon spread. Week 4, last week, I was able to add in some softly cooked brown meat chicken (I have a Sous vide, so it’s easy to keep it soft and not overcook it, I highly recommend that gadget) and softly cooked salmon. I could get in about 1/8 - 1/4 cup in. I have to go very slowly, like taking 20-30 minutes to eat it, and chew the daylights out of it. I’ve progressed to being able to try little bits of most types of meats. I’m still learning to listen to my body’s signals that it’s full, so I go by measurements. 1/4 cup of food per meal, 3 meals per day, and 1 protein shake for a snack (half in the afternoon, half in the evening/night). I can add bits of salsa, etc. for flavor, which keeps down the monotony. I’m still going to be chewing for a long long time, and may forever. It’s not a bad thing. I enjoy my meals a lot more. I can add in non-starchy veggies in at the 3 month mark, as long as I’m getting the protein in. The chewing a ton and not drinking water 1/2 hour before and 1/2 hour after a meal were some of the behaviors that I had to develop prior to surgery. My program was pretty rigorous, but I think it prepared me fairly well. You’ll get used to this new way of being. There are so many wonderful proteins and non starchy veggies out there. I’m still going to indulge in fruit here and there, but it will be a bite of fresh strawberry, or a blackberry off a vine or a huckleberry or two while I’m hiking. And I will enjoy the hell out of it. -
I will be 4 weeks postop tomorrow, I'm hungry too! I went to Walmart Grocery store today and finding protein rich foods without it becoming monotonous is a real task. I found some egg bites premade with cheese and Turkey sausage, I don't eat pork, but they had bacon as well. I found a large container of Oikos Yogurt which is 12 grams of protein per serving, egg whites, cream of wheat, oatmeal, Sargento cheese snacks, milk for protein drink mixes and few other items for my family. I miss having ftuit, vegetables, salads, fish because my body is rejecting my favorite protein. I'm also feeling tired of sweet liquids, not being able to drink plain old fashioned water without an enhancement to tolerate it, I want cold cereal, I want cashews and pistachios for a healthy protein boost. I miss some of my favorite healthy staples that would satiate my hunger, but Ariel aka my stomach is still healing and I have to respect it. I'm hungry too.

Im going to share something I discovered, which you may not know if you don't have children. I've read several people on here in the soft/liquid/puree phases who miss texture and crunch. In the baby section there is something called "yogurt bites" basically its little wafers of freeze dried yogurt. They are crunchy BUT dissolve on your tongue and melt. So, it may help satisfy that need for something crunchy. They taste YUMMY by the way. Also would be good for those further along who just want a healthy crunchy snack. 1/4 a cup is only 30 calories!

Labor Day Challenge 2012
Giselle3264 replied to jhansen71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three weeks post op Challenge weight: 203.4 Last week's weight: 199.4 Today's weight: 192.8 (down 6.6 pounds) Goal weight: 180 (down 10.6, 12.8 to go) Starting to each purees and I'm shocked by how little I can eat! But I love having tuna, scrambled eggs, yogurt, and refried beans. Yum! This beats a liquid diet any day. To get off the rest, more liquids, more protein, and stick to the exercise. Doing well on tasks but need more fluids and protein to really meet this goal. -
I am 8 months out and my guilty preasures of choice right now are peanut butter and frozen Greek yogurt.
-
Checking in. Breakfast was actually at home. Yogurt and almonds. lunch was a chopped salad with chicken and bacon and balsamic dressing, and I passed on the bread. At the computer store now. Maybe an open house this afternoon.

Today is going to be a great day because I'm going to make it one! Taking the kiddos tonight to see Disney on Ice, not sure who's more excited them or me:-) Probably will grab a quick dinner on the way there, probably Wendy's so no problem I will just work it into my "plan" for today (which as you can see below is really under-developed). My goal is not to go over 1338 cal. for today. 88 oz of Water and I will try for those darn stairs again. Yesterday I got pulled into a meeting that went a lot longer than expected so the stairs didn't happen. However, today, I think the stairs and moving around as much as possible will help me get through this day with a smile. Today's plan B: Yogurt & trail mix- 250 cal 17p L: Not sure something light and low cal- try not to exceed 250 cal- maybe another jimmy johns unwich for 170 cal 22p (although yesterday the lettuce didn't seem to go down as normal.) D: Wendy's 4pc spicy chicken nuggets 170 cal 10p S: For Disney on Ice- Protein Bar 160 cal 20p I'm going to try and "save" some of my calories in case something unexpected comes along so I don't blow it out of the water and if nothing unexpected comes along well then I'll just add that as a win and hopefully this will assist in my weigh-in next Friday:-) Let's continue moving forward, no looking back, full speed ahead with our heads held high, shoulders back, smile on, working it! We should all remember how awesome we are and that just because we hit a bump now and then, that doesn't change a thing, we all get up and we're back at it today and that's ALL that matters! We don't have to be perfect to be successful! What is perfection any way?? I don't know because I've never seen it! 1-2-3 BREAK!

Lisa, you're not alone and you're not the only one struggling. Take a breath. You've been through a lot with your son lately. It's devastating to watch someone you love suffer. Your posts always make me think and always point me to something in my life I need to see too. When I don't see you posting as often it means you must be off trying to handle it all on your own. For me that doesn't work. I find success when I reach out. So let's grab this thing by the horns and beat it back. I've had several weeks of losing and gaining the same five pounds. Why? I want to eat what I want and drink wine whenever I want. That got me really far didn't it? Today I had yogurt for Breakfast because I forgot that all my Protein shakes were At work. Then deli meat and cheese for lunch. Now Soup and a salad for dinner. I commit to no more food after this dinner and no wine tonight. I'm off to an OA meeting as well. I got my stairs in at work and guess what. For today that is my imperfect day and that's just fine.
