  1. I still feel weak. I drink my protein shakes and water and I still feel weak. I have no energy to do anything. I'm on puree diet and 8 still feel like this. Sometimes I wish I didn't do the surgery. I was active always on the go and now I'm a total different person. I hope things get better.

    Gurgling

I got my band on Feb 19 and it gurgles at me too. If I drink a little too much or to big of a gulp I will get "feedback." It sometimes gurgles to say "FEED ME!" if I have gone more than 3 hours between meals. I giggle to myself when I hear it.
  3. Hey everyone.. I just got my surgery date for May 26th and I have to say Im super nervous and excited. My question is how did others tell their children that you would be away from home for 2 nights? My girl is 8 and my boy is 3 ... they both cling to me at bedtime so im really worried how this will impact them. I know its only 2 days but as a mom, they are my main concern! A nurse told me i shoudl tell my 8yr old that momma is going to the hospital to get help with my weight??? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks

    Stomach bug

I am three months post op and am just getting over a stomach bug with vomiting and diarrhea. It seems I can barely eat anything now, I fill up super fast and stay full for a really long time to the point that I am eating half of what I used to. Has anyone else had this for a few days afterwards? Is it normal? Is it almost like a pouch reset because I couldn't eat for a day and a half? (I am pushing fluids, just curious about food). Update - had my 3 mo post op appt and I am doing fine. I was told it can take a few extra days to get back to normal eating compared to before I had gastric bypass.

    Hooked on Deadwood?

Hey Dead(wood) heads, the new season started three weeks ago! But cheer up -- I think HBO is showing all of the first three episodes this Friday: see http://www.hbo.com/apps/schedule/ScheduleServlet?ACTION_PAGE_LIST=PAGE&PAGE=7 I love Monk too. My brothers and I realized that he could be one of our family, from the looks to the neurosis.

    Regret?

I lost 40 lbs in a month. I didn't lose at all for two weeks and felt the exact same way. Only difference is after that first week of no losing I put my scale up for a week. Right now I'm going down between 1-2 lbs a day. It seems like the days I do well no loss the days I cheat and have a snack or something not quite healthy I'll lose way more!!! It's crazy. I read on here it's just the increase in calories so I'm trying to find a healthier way of doing that. I felt regret for the first month but I went from a 26 pant to a 20!!! It's just emotional and my body isn't doing what I expected it to..
  7. Rev Me Up!

    Fill me in?

Hi, I take a PPI every morning - Dr's orders for the first 6 months! I also take a chewable multi Vitamin every day, a sublibgual B-12 a couple days a week. My 1 month bloodwork showed I am Vit D deficient so I am taking a prescription Vitamin D once a week for 4 weeks and then I will cycle down to one vit D (over the counter) every day. It's weird for me because I have never been one to take Vitamins. I should probably take more calcium and Iron, but so far, so good. Lara

    Return to Work/School

I have not been banded yet. My paperwork is with my insurance company so I am waiting for the authorization. My coworker had band surgery and came back after a week and it was too soon for her. She didn't have enough time to take off more. I am fortunate that I have plenty of vacation and sick time. I plan to take 2 weeks minimum, even though I have a sit-down job. This is a big step for me and I want the time to adjust. I am all stocked up with protein shakes, chicken broth, frozen sugar-free popsicles, sugar free jello and such. I found a check list here somewhere and what I didn't have already I have purchased most items. Still need slip on shoes, and liquid Tylenol. I asked at Target and they don't carry adult strength liquid Tylenol, so I will look around. Have the Gas-X, heating pad, ice pack, paper tape, gauze, blender, even toilet tongs LOL! I think I might need a UHaul to get to the hospital!

    Anyone else?

@@khuuxo I am not sure how much weight you have to lose. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if it is a lot it is likely that your apron will only continue to drop. When I started this process I never thought I would consider having plastics and that I would be simply happy with the weight loss all by itself. For me, I lost 152lbs which is nearly what I weigh now. I call it the mudslide that happens when there is extreme weight loss. So, in July I happily met with plastic surgeons and decided I would need to do something. The mudslide has actually made my back issues that I had before surgery worse. So I started with a arm lift in July and was amazed at how much it helped my neck which is fused at 3 levels. Not to mention I got outstanding results cosmetically. In 12 days I will have a full abdominalplasty and breast lift because they are not where god intended them. I am doing this to get rid of all that loose skin and am actually hoping I get some relief on my low and mid back. My lumbar is also fused but most of my back pain is in my mid back. I guess I found that my journey wasn't complete simply after the weight loss. I simply gained a lot of confidence which not only fixed my inside but made me want to enter the second part of my journey which was getting rid of the loose skin. How much loose skin you end up with all depends on things like: how much you have to lose, genetics, age. I am guessing if you have gone through WLS chances are you have a considerable amount to lose? Best of luck to you as you continue your journey.

    I'm so ready for this

Donna, mine took 6-8 weeks total to get through all the preop appointments and the approval. It sounds like you are further in the process so I would say within 2 weeks.

    JUNE 10, 2013, MY BEGINNING

You are going through the dreaded 3 week stall, do not worry it happens to most people. Everyone gets over it and goes on to lose more weight. One your journey you might have a few stalls, for some people they last days and for others weeks! They are frustrating but have patience and perseverance and you will be fine.

    Surgery Pain

just like everyone said. everyone is different. i was pretty sore after my band. of course it didnt help that i got my period (tmi?) just a few days afterwards so i think that added to the pain. i would be careful tho. i was 2 days post op and i thought i was fine so i went to take a shower and ended up banging on the wall for my mom. i was dizzy, light headed, and could barely walk. i just tried to do to much to soon. so take things slow. i would say a week after and i was bad to normal.
  13. I did ok @ Thanksgiving, over ate a little but not insane. Little did I know that was gonna be the best day out of the next 5. I called 1st thing Monday morning and told them I was eating anything not nailed down. I had 6 cc's in a 14 cc band and had been 3 weeks prior and they woudnt fill (down too much). So I make an appt. for Tues AM .. as I suspected was up a pound and was feeling out of control w/ eating. She filled with another 1.25cc's. Didn't seem like much .. well it's now Thurs PM and I still doing a mushie dinner .. having issues w/ solids. Lunch I did tiny tiny bites of meatloaf kind of buried in mashed sweet potato. I'm hoping this fill will mellow out just a tiny bit as I really don't want to unfill. I'm not starving, I'm not vomiting. definately some stuckage but am gonna try modifying to mushies thru the weekend and see how the weekend goes. I don't have a full restriction feeling the restriction seems to be more of what I can get down without it being very uncomfortable... if that makes any sense.

    Pre op diet day one

That's kind of the way I felt, I didn't die Keep up the great work, it does get easier. I started one week ago today and scheduled for surgery one week from today. Let's get this over with.
  15. I went for my post op follow up and I lost 8lbs at there office. But at my primary office a total of 14lbs. In so happy , I thought maybe more but hey I'll take that. I was told to start eating mushy foods and I did. I had to meals today and I noticed in slightly sore. I might just have one meal tomorrow and shakes and yogurts the rest of the day. Good luck to those out there feeling my pain. So far it's worth it.
  16. Had a checkup with my Primary Physician on Monday. He was extremely pleased with my lab report. A1C 5.1, cholesterol 184, blood pressure 120/76. He asked me if I felt my weight loss surgery was worth it.. I told him absolutely. He agreed. He said at my age and the weight I was prior to my surgery he worried that I might have a stroke or have some really bad issues with diabetes. So, in this post I want to tell everyone that no matter what you do to improve your health, it is so important to take control. I personally chose lapband because I didn't want to undergo a major surgical procedure at this stage of my life. I will be grateful to my surgeon forever. He has been so supportive and he is conservative with fills. I am so grateful that I now have mobility and energy to enjoy life . I am going to Alaska in a few weeks and will enjoy the cruise and all of the activites . I believe I will be able to eat healthy and stay on track but I'm not really worried about it.

    Can't Keep Anything Down

Hello, I am 4-5 weeks out from surgery and I can't keep anything down, solids or liquids. I have also been experiencing constipation, could this be why?

    mexico surgery in 8day

ME TOOOOO!!! So excited and nervous! In two weeks ill be in TJ.
  19. Hi. You are not alone. I was banded in 2007. I lost 60 wonderful pounds. I was still obese, but it made a big difference for me and I was happy with the weight loss and new found freedom. I think I had the same fill experience as you....fill-unfill-fill-can't swallow my own spit-unfill-eat every and any thing-fill-can't eat anything except slider foods-weight gain. It has been a constant struggle. Once I learned how to eat around my band, it was all downhill. My surgeon advised me to revise to sleeve last year (so you might want to start there if you still trust your surgeon and have his/her support), but I resisted. I didn't want another surgery and I didn't want to acknowledge that the band and I didn't work well together. We (the band and I) failed. It's been hard for me to accept. Finally, September 2012 I started really considering a revision. I went to another "initial" seminar (with the same surgeon) and heard everything all over again. After 5 years, I need a refresher. Long story short (is it too late for a short story? lol), I am approved. I had to get medical clearance again which was no problem at all. My doctor wrote it up better than I could have myself. I did not do psych again, but I did the NUT visit. I was approved so quickly (2-3 days) that it was further reassurance that I needed to move forward with the revision. Approval is easier for those who have been compliant with getting fills, says my surgeon. I got approved, but I put everything on hold, because I was not mentally ready to do it, but I am now. I'm calling my surgeon's office next week to ask them to schedule me. I hope to be in the April Sleever Achievers club. Bottom line, start at the beginning. Pick up the phone and call your surgeon and tell them what your thinking then go from there. Also, call your insurance co. Please update. I will too. Good luck.
  20. I am trying to figure out when I actually got pregnant because I am really not sure of exactly when it happened although I did chart all events. This is complicated because I got pregnant the first month I went off of birth control and did not give my body a chance to stabilize. That means that my cycle could have been 4 weeks, 6 weeks, etc . . . and I am not sure. Timing details are as follows: 8/17 Last Birth Control Pill Taken 8/19 Started TOM Cycle 8/21 Finished TOM Cycle 9/15 Negative Pregnancy Test 9/18 Negative Pregnancy Test 9/21 Negative Pregnancy Test 9/22-9/23 Bad Cramping (Maybe Implantation???) 9/25 Negative Pregnancy Test 9/27 Extremely Faint Positive Pregnancy Test 9/28 Very Faint Positive Pregnancy Test 9/30 Moderate Positive Pregnancy Test 10/2 Distinct Positive Pregnancy Test So what is your guess as to when I most likely conceived??? I came up with a chart of potential dates, but I am not sure if it is realistic. I still have a few weeks before I will see my doctor to get his input . . . but I am very eager to figure out timing, lol.

So Can U Have It After Vsg...

What you can and cannot tolerate post-op is really a "Your Mileage May Vary" kind of situation. For the first 3 months post op, I was totally lactose intolerant. Now, I can ocassionally have hard cheese and cultured things like yogurt, in measured quantities. Protein shakes still make me nauseated, bloaty and gassy. I cannot tolerate bread in any form, any type of rice, or Pasta. I have a difficult time with chicken in any form still. I can do a few bites of baked potato, but any type of fried potatoes make me very ill (so no fries, hash browns, etc). PB makes me very nauseated. On the other hand, I eat steak often, which many post-ops have a difficult time with. There is really no good way to predict how your body will react.

So Can U Have It After Vsg...

I am 8 weeks out and have not problem with peanut butter. I have it with whole wheat crackers occasionly.
  23. I took a 5 weeks off work because I could and needed a vacation anyway to take care of me. I was on a plane to Florida 3 weeks after surgery for a friends wedding wearing a swim suit and playing in the ocean. I had soreness still but not any real pain. You should be fine good luck and it would be nice if the Cowboys went to the superbowl If they do I will see you there. Best wishes.
  24. I didn't use any belly bands, though I think it might have helped a little with some of the pulling sensation inside on one of my incisions from the stitches. The meds I took pre-op were all things I'd been taking for diabetes, blood pressure, and arthritis. I didn't have to take anything special before the surgery. The meds my surgeon prescribed for me post-op were a liquid antacid (Ranitidine) and a liquid pain killer (Roxicet). The Pepcid is an antacid - what I have the Ranitidine for. He said I have to take the antacid for one month - I can't wait to be off of it, because it tastes NASTY! The pain killer I'm using more for my severely arthritic knees, at least until it runs out. I used to be on meloxicam for it, but my surgeon said I shouldn't take it after surgery, at least for several months (Nsaid), and the Tramadol my regular doctor prescribed to use in place of it wasn't doing the job. My surgeon told me not to start my multi-Vitamin (chewable) until Monday (2 weeks post-op). It contains calcium citrate too - hopefully enough that, with diet, I shouldn't need an additional supplement. (I got the Bariatric Advantage fusion - the dietitian told me to take 3 a day with the sleeve surgery.) I also take Cymbalta for my arthritis pain. I know that it is also used as an antidepressant for some people. Although the instructions with the meds said do NOT crush or open the capsules, my surgeon told me that many of their patients have without a problem, so I open the capsule and mix the contents with a small spoonful of sugar-free, fat-free pudding. Sugar-free Jello works OK before you get to the full liquid phase. Hope this helps!
