    I Feel Better After...

That sounded so wonderful to do something nice for yourself. I don't want to be a spoiler but I was at the dermatologist a few weeks ago and he said never use alcohol, witch hazel or any toners on the face. I have used toner, Lancome, for about 30-40 years on mine and now have stopped all. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and new week.
  2. I loooooove DaVinci syrups. Target's Archer Farms brand also has syrups and has a pumpkin spice one for the holidays that is nommy. Another good thing to get are the candy flavorings (alcohol based). The flavor is really intense with those and you can get stuff like coconut, banana nut, peanut butter and all sorts of off the wall stuff.

    I Feel Better After...

Some movies, a facial mask...a face wash...a face steam with peppermint...and then alcohol swabbed onto my face. We shall see if this is the perfect combination treatment or if this will irritate my skin further. ETA of my gorgeous camera is the 29th... a day after my first appointment. So I am planning on recording my first vlog then! I'm so excited to document everything! Hopefully my skin is cleared up by then  It's pretty late (for me) so I'm off to bed. Night!

14 Weeks Post Op & Happy Thanksgiving!

When I weighed in on Wednesday, I was over -2 lbs down this week to 171.0, I worked out and everything was great... then came Thanksgiving. Let's be brutally honest people, I didn't gain weight compared to last Friday's weigh in, I stepped on the scale and saw 173.1 staring back me (I was 173.3 last week), so I consider my first official holiday success even though I only lost -.2 lbs this week. Hands down I'm guilty as sin for grazing all day, nibbling, and snacking away. I wasn't able to eat much at the actual sit down part, but I sure made my mini plate dent through the day. I only had one alcoholic beverage, and I tried to snack on protein (turkey) as much as possible. I've never been able to control myself as much as I have this year. I walked away satisfied, having tasted all the treats, but never getting more than two bites of anything. At first I felt a little guity, but driving home last night I felt victorious. I knew I had only eaten a fraction of what I normally do, and I even somehow managed to completely shy away from taking a ton of left overs home to continue the binge eating as I've done in the past. Double score. So I'll take my lowest weekly weight loss since surgery as a huge step forward. My first major holiday with friends was a success with my sleeve. I lost weight even on Thanksgiving week... and oh, am I ever so Thankful for my sleeve!!! What If Wine?

I had wine about 3 months post op and had no problems what so ever ! I did not get buzzed I had the glass of wine about a hour after I ate, I sipped it slowly and totally enjoyed it. I'm almost 8 months post op now and can drink socially like I did before surgery with no problems. I do not get buzzed faster or slower... the surgery has no effect on my alcohol consumption.

    Questions

You can get particles of food in the incision. So you are not supposed to be eating anything with little pieces of anything that could get stuck. That is what I was told. I would eat ice pops so once you are cleared from drinking clear fluids I imagine you could have froyo. But...ice cream in any form is a trap. Give yourself some limits...Like I promise not to drink Alcohol until month six. I promise not to eat chips or fries until 1 year. Whatever is appropriate for you. Making sure you are in control of the driver's seat is important. The first year you won't have much control, but after a year or two you could easily lose focus since are natural instinct is to over eat.

    Blenders

We actually had a little "smoothie party" after we got the Vitamix. We made some veggies smoothies, dessert smoothies (with frozen fruit), green smoothies, orange julius smoothies (with splenda), sorbet smoothies - you name it. There are TONS of smoothie recipes on the net. Name a veggie, fruit, nut, or flavor and there are lots of recipes. Also some excellent savory recipes for Soups and sauces. Frozen drinks (with or without alcohol). Salsa. Ice cream made with soy or almond milk. If you purchase a separate container you can make your own fluor from any grain. The versatility of this machine is actually quite impressive. Vitamix took a different approach to blending. Most blenders have sharp blades which require less power to do the blending. The problem is that the blades dull which results in excessive wear on the motor and eventual burnout. Vitamix blades are "dull" right out of the box. But they power the blades with a 2hp motor. The result is that it will liquify just about anything you can imagine to a perfect consistency. Many fruits and veggies don't even have to be peeled. A definite advantage from a nutrition standpoint since many of the Vitamins are in the peel. I sound like a Vitamix commercial! Lol. I really don't own any stock. But it's refreshing to buy a product that will do what it says it will do and do it well.

    Onderland!

Congratulations!!! I'm about half a pound away from onederland...Sooo happy!!! I've just been sleeved for 11 days now and have lost 14 pounds so I wasn't that far away from onederland but still.. I was always around 190 at my heaviest but this year I've been pretty depressed and lost control and shot up to 233.. I went down from that to 214 from august cutting carbs, sweets and alcohol and mostly coke out of my life but even though I've gone down almost 33 pounds it doesnt feel like it because the first i lost slowly so I just count what I've lost since surgery.... Still I'm sook happy to be almost below 200...hopefully tomorrow I'll get there... I still have over 60 pounds to loose but it's a start!!!!
  12. I'm also scheduled for surgery on 11/26 and am currently on vacation. I've allowed myself a few beers followed by a TON of Water for the last two days. After tomorrow no more alcohol for me. I wanted to enjoy my vacation but I want my surgery and my new life more!! Good luck!!

How long did you wait to drink alcohol?

    How Bad Is It?

One time I made the mistake of eating one of those Atkin's low carb candy bars, they have lots of sugar alcohol in them and it had me running to the bathroom the whole night. Maybe try one of those. If I ever get backed up I will eat one of those. Also I use what thing called a "squatty potty". It lifts your knees up really high and it helps you poop in a more natural position. My husband thinks I'm crazy for using it but my butt is thankful
  18. I will just come out and say it bluntly. Do NOT drink the weekend before surgery. Just because this is an "elective" surgery doesn't mean it is any less risky. This is a very serious operation. Alcohol will thin your blood and dehydrate you, both of which are terrible right before surgery. You might as well take a pistol and play Russian roulette while in New Orleans. If you do decide to drink, I would think that it is pretty selfish to break the rules for a weekend of fun in NOLA
  19. I wouldn't. You'll be able to have alcohol after the surgery 4-6 weeks out. I'm scheduled for the 26th also. The day before surgery it's one Protein shake in the AM, the a bottle of magnesium citrate and clear fluids for the rest of the day. After midnight, nothing at all to drink or eat, not even Water. So I'll be preparing my stuff this weekend for Monday. I think that maybe one glass of wine would be ok, but I wouldn't be slammin' em back or anything. Why risk it? Alcohol dehydrates you anyway, and that would be rough going into surgery, IVbag or not. When Twooley said you need to call your Dr. With questions like that, he was right. He answered your question with a great answer. You got nasty when no one answered you, at first, and then when he told you who you really need to consult, you got nasty with him. He gave the right answer, a caring answer, but its not what you wanted to hear. This is a question for your Doctor, not us. Opinions don't matter in this situation. If you had a hunch that your Dr. Would say 'no' and then decided to ask us if you could have a 'get out of jail free' card to go drinking, you're making a mistake. Just my opinion.

    Please God!

My husband said something about someone "being fat" and not really in a mean way if you can describe someone as fat in a NOT mean way but I quickly corrected him. I don't care if I end up a size 2, I am always going to be fat because I can never see a day when food is not my issue. I could care less about drugs, alcohol or cigarettes- but leave me alone with a box of donuts and I am still that fat girl.

    Results Of Drinking Alcohol!

My nutritionist recommended avoiding alcohol the rest of my life. There is evidence in medical literature that bypass patients are at greater risk of alcohol dependence. But I love martinis. I do plan on drinking much less postop, and never on an empty stomach .

Remind Me Again - Why No Liquids?

That was a very interesting video, and it makes sense. Some dr. who are probably more strict with the water during meals is probably because they were so use to setting that guideline. New information isn't always taken well by some or are skeptic. I'll ask mine about some of this. My bf did ask when can I drink alcohol again, I wasn't sure actually so I said next month. lol. ( occasionally )

    Results Of Drinking Alcohol!

LOL... alcohol has not affected me either way, there is no difference pre or post op but I have heard that people either get more buzzed or less buzzed. I stayed the same (7 months post op)
  24. So I guess it is true that post-op surgery drinking is some what of a hazard... I always heard it was a major difference! I went out to drink for basically the first time and tried to drink like I used to... Well this was the result!!! Starting Weight = 344 (July 27th) Current Weight = 257
  25. I looked at the binder that my surgeon gave me and it says that it's best to avoid caffeine but if you do drink caffeine consider cutting back or drinking 8 oz of Water for every cup of coffee. It also said its best to avoid alcohol. I have no idea where I got the 3 months from but maybe that was my rule. I love coffee but I hate feeling like I need it every morning, so I plan to avoid it. Alcohol I plan to wait until I reach goal but ultimately who knows what will happen down the line
