  1. Food tolerances definitely can change post-op. If you aren't tolerating eggs well, take a break for a few weeks and try again later. There is no requirement to eat any specific food, especially if it is upsetting your stomach or making you sick. If you are tolerating cheese well, have you tried cottage cheese? That is a great source of protein and is often well tolerated. Canned tuna, soy (soy beans, soy milk, tofu, etc), and deli meat can all be good sources of protein and are often well tolerated. As far as protein drinks, have you tried protein waters like Protein2o? I liked those much better than shakes when I was first post-op. You could also try a vegan protein powder and see if that works better for you. If you continue to not be able to hit your protein goals, definitely reach out to your team. Making sure you get enough protein is critical to not losing lean muscle mass and developing nutritional deficiencies, They should be able to provide support & guidance to help keep you on track!

    August surgery buddies!

Hey everyone! My surgery was August 4th so I’m 5 days post op today. I’m doing pretty good! I was outpatient at Blossom in Vegas. I was one of the lucky ones with virtually zero pain - just some mild discomfort. I don’t know if that was because I was diligent with walking, having my husband use the massage gun on my back and/or using my massage/vibrating heating pad (has these little parts that go over your shoulders and covers the whole back - feels amazing). While I had no pain I have definitely been nauseas. So bad after taking pills I stopped all of them the night of surgery, but now live with a constant 2/3 out of 10. I’m sure it’ll go away.. just frustrating. I have 2 weeks off work so I’m just taking it easy. Any other surgery buddies? How are you doing??
  3. It's a learning curve. Apparently a lot of people struggle with eggs and dairy. Sometimes it passes. Things you like before surgery you sometimes can't stand after and vise versa. My team says, try again in a few weeks if there is something you can't tolerate. Luckily I didn't really have any issues transitioning back into a normal diet. You got this, just be patient!

    Holy weight loss, Batman!!!!!!

Nice. I think i am finally out of my stall because in the last 5 days i have lost 5lb so thats great. Considering i only lost about 6lb in the previous 30 days.
  5. I had the same problem right after surgery for two and a half weeks. It sucks and I'm sorry your going through it Dr blamed it on a bug but everything tested normal. I ended up getting a banana bag and postassium because I couldn't keep anything in. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. As of today, I am exactly 3 1/2 months post sleeve surgery and have lost 61 pounds!!!! I can't believe it!!! I still feel like I'm fighting for every pound, but I also knew PCOS would do that to me. Still, I'm so so happy that I hit that weight. I know it's going to get tougher the more time that goes by, but the fact that I'm losing and not putting the weight back on is huge!!!! I'm so excited. My next goal is to hit 320 (that will officially put me at a lower weight than I was with keto - even though I lost 100 pounds then, and it'll only be 67 pounds now, because I went into the surgery a lower weight than I was at when I started keto). After that, my next goal is to hit 299 and be under 300 for the first time since 2005.

    July 2022 peeps!

I had RNY July 20th. At my one week checkup I had lost 10 lbs. I weigh myself weekly and the last 2 weeks I haven't lost anything. 0 lbs in 2 weeks. Living off soft foods and have low energy levels for what? I'm starting college on the 29th and was hoping to have lost some weight by then. My mood has been all over the place. I've been crying and am regretting this surgery so badly.
  8. I have Cigna, had no issues. I think all insurances require some kind of pre-op process/trial period. But I was approved in 3 days after my surgeons office submitted it.

    Day 6 full liquid on

Thank you so much @Arabesque! It’s nice to know that im not alone. I honestly don’t have much problem drinking, i’m trying to stick to 4oz at a time every 20min or so. According to my dietitian, im already starting week 2. Which im allowed to have sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt, and fat free milk. And also campbells soup! i can’t wait for next week, im badly craving a tuna sandwich! 😅 How many month/ years are you in post op?

    August surgery buddies!

Hi there! My surgery (gastric sleeve) date is August 22nd. I'm 5'7" and haven't stepped on a scale in 6 months, but judging by how my clothes fit compared to the last time I did, I'm probably around 390 pounds. The next 2 weeks has me on protein shakes + a small meal a day. Today I had my blood drawn. Phone consult with the anesthesiologist is Friday. I think tomorrow or Wednesday is also my pre-op consult with my surgeon. I have severe arthritis in my knees after 4 decades of chronically dislocating knees, and with the weight on top of that, I'm in so much pain and can barely move. Pre-diabetic from a family with diabetes. High blood pressure. Depression. I really look forward to less pain and more mobility. I used to be such an athletic person, but I'd settle for being able to walk without wincing even with a cane. I know it's not going to be an easy road, but neither is living like this. I just want it to be a longer and healthier road....

    Day 6 full liquid on

Same as @kcuster83. I could have eggs at the start of week 3 in puree stage. Just had to be runny scrambled eggs or boiled eggs mashed with Mayo. But, yes some people struggle with eggs to begin: they just don’t sit well or taste unpleasant. What does your plan say? PS - Congrats on your surgery. I had a lot of swelling too & then my back spasmed so I had three nights in hospital. I found warm drinks more soothing & easier to sip.

    Sleeve or Bypass Regrets?

First, congrats on your weight loss. Yay! If you’re losing at a great pace why do you want to lose faster? We all lose at our own rate & what is right for us. And you’ll end up at a weight that is right for you too. Sure you may lose a little faster at the beginning with a bypass but it slows just like any other surgery as you progress. So at this stage you’d probably be losing at exactly the same rate. You also didn’t start at a very high BMI so your rate of loss wouldn’t be like someone weighing 400, 500+lbs. But their rate of loss slows too. In five months you’ve almost reached your goal. Can’t complain about that. As @RickM said the average weight loss at about 3 yrs post surgery is about the same regardless of whether the surgery is sleeve or bypass (about 65% of the weight you had to lose). I’m glad I got the sleeve. I exceeded my weight loss goal & happily sit at a weight I never thought I would weigh as an adult let alone to have basically maintained. And to me that’s the biggest win: maintaining. Generally I’m healthy. I don’t need to take any vitamins like you would with bypass. And while I have a malabsorption (protein) issue, which are possible with bypass, it occurred as a result of my gall removal last year & had nothing to do with my sleeve surgery 3 years ago. I had mild managed reflux before surgery & I still have reflux now. It manifests differently but again it’s managed through diet & meds. If it worsens & I need a revision in the future I’ll deal with that then. I have to be careful to eat slowly & to avoid dry or coarse food but that’s me & my sleeve. I had a bit of a fussy digestive system before anyway so there’s nothing that’s harder to manage or limits me in any way. Celebrate every pound you’ve lost & enjoy the life you can have now. Don’t worry or question how fast you’re losing.

    August surgery buddies!

I can’t believe the day is getting so close. It feels like yesterday that my doctor first suggested the surgery and here 7 months later and I start my two weeks of liver-shrinking diet on Friday. Sucks that my hubby’s birthday falls two days before surgery, but I’m confident that I can do this. So lucky to have him on board with me, he’s been looking up foods I can eat if we go out during the diet lol “I know us, we’re not going to eat at home every night.” His words 🤣 I’ve had a few nervous freak outs and I’m sure the nerves will only get worse as it gets closer, but I’m all in and so looking forward to the other side. Since hubby was diagnosed with diabetes in May, we’ve been really careful about what we eat and I’ve already lost around 35lbs, so I know that with the surgery, it will only get easier (though by no means do I consider this the easy way)!

    July 2022 peeps!

Hello, I am new to the community. I had my sleeve on 07/19/2022. The first 2 days were HORRIBLE! However that 3rd day was tolerable. I am now 4 weeks out and I'm struggling with how to put my meals together to get my proteins.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Stalls are the absolute worst. They shake your faith in EVERYTHING! Keep the faith @DaisyAndSunshine if you're sticking to the programme then you might well lose those last few pounds, even if it takes a while. You have done so so very well. I really want to lose about another 10 lbs although I accept that may or may not happen.

    August surgery buddies!

How are things going for you now? Are you feeling any better? I have been traveling for several days and not able to see the posts. I hope you are doing okay! I had my 2 week pre-op appt and on clear liquids now - I'm ready to get this done. I sure hope you're feeling better!!

    August surgery buddies!

Wow 5 weeks is awesome! Good for you. Sadly I can’t take that kind of time off so I’m just hoping my body works with me and allows me to push through. I’ll be back at work on the 27th. Exactly 1 week later. Do you have a pre-op?

    August surgery buddies!

Hey everyone! I’m a week post op! I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because the nursing staff wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be doing. Doing pretty well but I’m ready to move out of the liquid stage. I was up 11 pounds from my pre-surgery weight when I got home and still three pounds over today. I’m hoping I can have some puréed food soon. I’m over protein shakes!

    Alcohol

I am Irish and I'm afraid alcohol is baked into my culture. I have drunk some wine most weekends since 6 weeks after I had my sleeve last November when my (Irish!) surgeon and nutritionist permitted it. Yes I do get a hit much quicker than I used to, especially if I haven't eaten much beforehand, and yes, it wears off much quicker too. I do count the calories and I only do it at weekends. It has probably slowed my weight loss but I'm accepting that. I totally get that mightn't be acceptable to other people. But IMO it hasn't held me back *that* much.

Any August 2022 buddies out there??

That was a struggle to not want to eat everything the final week before starting my pre-op diet!

    August surgery buddies!

Oh my 21 days! I’m certainly not going to complain about 8 days - you just made this a whole lot easier on me. So far day 1 has been better than expected. After my 2nd (out of three) Fairlife shakes and about 12 oz of juice - I didn’t think I could take one more sweet sip, so I had some chicken broth. I welcomed the savory. I have one more shake, about 6 oz of juice and 15 oz of Water to go yet today. No hunger yet - but I think I’ve been to busy running to the potty (it’s a lot of liquids… lol) and focused on hitting my goals to think about it to much. I told my husband and kids - that if I can make it to day 3 without being cranky I think I can make it till Tuesday. But you making it through 21 day to get to “Goal” I’m inspired and extra motivated!

    August surgery buddies!

Twins! I have good days and bad days. This 21 days of hell culminates in 3 days of extra strict starvation so I have that to look forward to. I'm feeling pretty good from a mental perspective. I've really thought hard about whether this is really what I want to do - and it really is! How are you finding it all?

Starting my liquid (liver shrinking) diet tomorrow

Thank you! My pre-op weightloss kinda froze for the last two weeks. I am hoping the liquid diet gives me a nudge to loose another 10 pounds or so before the procedure (mine is only 8 days). I figure every pound I loose before is one I don't need to loose after. Best of luck over the next week... I will look forward to seeing your progress and cheering you on!
  25. My pre-op diet was two weeks. The first few days were tough; I was hungry all the time, and nothing was satisfying. That coupled with the fact that I was drinking 5 shakes (my nutritionist suggested the Carnation Light Start) every day and I was tired of everything being sweet. Past the first few days, things improved dramatically. I generally didn't feel like I was constantly starving, and I started adding broth & bouillon on occasion to deviate from the constant sweetness.
