June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!
logo replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi grl499, i too expected more of a weight loss on the optifast than what I’ve seen and I was worried about what they’d say at my pre-op appointment. They weighed me at one of my first appointments back in January, and I fluctuated in weight up and down about 3-4 pounds throughout the intake process. When I started the optifast, I was actually 4 pounds heavier than my first weigh in. I’ve been on optifast now for 10 days. Days 1 and 2 were rough as I couldn’t swallow them without gagging and it took me almost a week before I could consistently get 4 shakes down in a day. I’ve never had a day with more than 1000 calories (sf jello, cucumbers, and broth make up my only other foods I’ve eaten), and some of those early days I couldn’t even get in or keep down 750 calories. I’ve not cheated at all. And I’ve walked at least 20 minutes a day. And I’m drinking water like never before When I went for my pre-op appointment today, I was only down 3 pounds (from my Jan weigh in), but 7 pounds from the day I started optifast (though they never weighed me when I started They didn’t say a word about it though. Not one comment about my weight loss or progress. Still, I felt disappointed as I was expecting more of a loss on these shakes. Was that an unrealistic expectation of me? How did your pre-op appointment go? When is your surgery? Mine is on June 21. 4 more days of optifast, then 2 days of clear fluids. -
Power lifters, bodybuilders, strength trainers, OCR runners!!!

This looks like the place I want to post About Me HW= 364 CW= 224 Height= 5’9” RNY 1/5/17 I’m 53 years old and have been exercising consistently since my surgery. Started out easy as per doctor’s recommendation and after six months started weightlifting and aerobic exercise five mornings a week. Not doing real heavy weight, in the 8 to 10 rep range. At this time, I’m at about 23% body fat. Would love to get below 20%. I consume approximately 1200 to 1500 cal daily, my weight has stayed pretty consistent for the last 4 to 6 months but my muscle mass has increased. Any suggestions on how to get below 20% safely would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any suggestions in advance -
Anyone with PCOS not lose weight after surgery
JanJan19 replied to Ruth9454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're doing great. My date was 10 days before you & I'm at a total of 22, 14 since surgery. -
I feel you! I can’t drink any protein. I ended up really sick. I am trying brownie bites which are 10 grams of protein each. My surgeon recommended them to me. Waiting in the mail for them, I’ll let you know how they taste.

I could not add any vegetables or beef until my 4 week pureed phase is over. I start pureed food on Monday 6/17/19 after 5 weeks of liquids.

I am totally bummed. I was scheduled for VGS on Mon, June 17, 2019. However, as part of my clearance from my Primary Physician, I had to undergo a Nuclear Stress Test. Well, I failed. There was some slowing of blood flow in my heart. I have to undergo a Cardiac Catheterization on Wednesday. After that, the doctor will see if any further action is necessary if not, he’ll clear me for the VGS. I realize it’s better that this happened. After all, my surgeon would NOT want me to flatline while he’s stapling my stomach! It’s just so doggone disappointing. I was totally psyched up& ready for the big day. I was ready to start my new journey. Oh, well. This too shall pass.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Aimy76 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, My name is Aimy and I am 43. Currently, I live in Honolulu, HI with my husband, two cats, and a dog. I am grandmother of 2 Step Grandchildren and 2 Biological grandchildren from my Son, and will have a new Grandson in September from my Daughter. Both my children followed in my footsteps and married at 20 years old! Oy Vey! I have sleep apnea, arthritis, and acid reflux. I will be moving to our next duty station in VA in August. (My husband is a United States Navy Submariner). My surgery is scheduled for June 24th! I am excited and nervous. I am on day two of my full liquid diet and I haven't felt hungry but I am burping a lot. Strange right?! I set a timer on my phone to go over every 10 minutes to remind me to drink. I good at consuming over 64 oz. of water a day, but I want to be in the habit of taking sips every 10 minutes. It is nice to have this forum to interact with others going through the same things! I look forward to getting to know you all more! -
How much excercise after surgery?
BlueAngelEyes posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve done may 31st 2019. My surgeons office isnt the best with giving information unless i ask them. I emailed them asking how much excercise am i supposed to be doing right now? Im in liquid stage still. They said excercise is always good but remember u just had surgery so baby steps. What does that mean?? I like directions and that wasnt what i was hopeing for. Am i supposed to be walking everyday for 30mins or an hour? Am i supposed to be jogging i just dont know what will help my weight loss. I have been the same weight for 3 days now and not exercising until my docter said it is always good so wondering how much?? I dont think getting a gym membership at this point is good right? I guess i thought the first month was healing time so i didnt need to do anything???? Someone know whats best???? Thanks -
After a couple of weeks you're clear to work out as much as you want, and you should, except for lifting more than 10 pounds you should wait 4-6 weeks. Sure, your friend might be thinking of gaining muscle, but that's a GOOD gain and you'll want to be fit and burn calories, so exercise is important.

What can you tolerate and when
MontrockGirl replied to always's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had Gastric Band removed then RNY on May8/19 was exclusive to pureed on week 3 & 4 then started other soft foods....Chew chew chew chew chew....if you are vomiting then it's your body saying "we had enough" or "we are not ready" for that yet. It is early days so we need to be patient....I got excited about having eggs and meat .....boy was I mistaken .... Now I experiencing gallbladder issues....the dietitian and other support staff tell us to avoid over doing things like eating too much too soon or physical activities for a reason. I am reminded to be more patient with myself and ask for help when I feel any type of discomfort Please take care and best wishes [emoji120] Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app -

It's not impossible! I did it. Training can be whatever you you want. One does not have to be hurling heavy weights. High rep low weights would be great to maintain muscle tone. You still need a recovery time though. I would not waste the surgery's fastest period of weight loss until hunger returns... It might not return for a year or more....One can make up Protein easily by adding Protein Powder to meals. Carbs are more difficult Will need to squeeze in an extra meal. Or do a ketogenic diet. Eating lean Protein meats and cheese is generally low carb and sets one up for a ketogenic diet. I put myself on a ketogenic diet without even trying. Lean meats and cheese for Snacks. When I wanted vegetables, it was sweet peas because good Fiber, carbs and Protein. My Protein bars I would eat would have a good carb content, low sugar and low fat. Be creative. To be clear, I am saying going to the gym even every day, is ok. And by that, I mean once a day, and giving entire muscle groups enough rest days between training. If she is going 2-3 times a day, I don't know what to say, may it's cardio, maybe it's treadmilling, one can do brisk walks more than once and and everyday. She really did not elaborate. I know I can go to the gym, do my "leg day" and later on run a 5 or 10 k, because I am not running hard, just jogging along. Running is something that can be done almost everyday, if one spreads out at least one rest day in the week.Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using BariatricPal mobile app
