  1. Yes on the perfect storm! Ugh! Like I said in a reply above my relationship with food is better than before surgery, but somewhere along the track I grew apathetic (probably because of depression!) and I've hit a brick wall since, so I will absolutely be working on that from here on out. Revision would be something I really seek out hard sometime next year if dietary and activity adjustments just don't work. I don't exercise as much as I want to but I'm hoping with next semester I'll have a more structured schedule and I WILL be putting ~3 hours of treadmill every week minimum. Even if it's just walking, it's something! Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful responses! I will definitely be working on the "things I can change" stuff first and foremost and only really go for revision in due time if my weight doesn't see tremendous benefit down the line.
  2. Hi there I was banded in August 2008 and lost 120lbs before getting pregnant in 2010. Since having my son in 2011 I have had any issues with acid reflux and not being able to get food down. I have had my bad filled/unfilled so many times and when it is empty no reflux issue but still food issues. Well finally a few weeks ago the surgeon has agreed to do the revision to sleeve if I want. The only thing that has be worried is he said my risk goes from less then 1% (never having WLS) to a 20% chance if leaking with a revision. Soy question for those that have gone through this have you had any issues with leakage? If so would you still do the surgery if you had to all over again? Thanks for taking the time to read and reply and best if luck to all of you.
  3. I agree, make sure your surgeon has experience with revisions. When they are in there and start to remove the band they have to cut through the scar tissue to remove it and then they need to free up the part of your stomach to perform the sleeve. If they nick the stomach at all and expose gastric contents they will postpone the sleeve part at least for a couple of weeks to prevent an infection. It is a risk and it does depend on your scar tissue. Usually people do fine. It is a little tougher for the surgeon technique wise and well worth it! Good luck to you!
  4. Had my revision done on Monday and I feel great! I had all your fears as well. My doctor found a small hiatal hernia and sewed it up but said my band did little damage, though I only had it in for 16 months. It was so much easier than I thought, no worse than the band surgery. I am off pain meds, walking a lot, and just still blown up with so much gas which I can't pass that I gained weight. You will be fine and look back in a few months so happy with your decision. The band never gave me anything but issues.

    Pain

Hello all! I had my first RNY and hernia repair on June 13, 2012, a revision RNY and gallbladder removal on July 11, 2012. My main incision is on my right side. It is a nasty looking one, too! Yesterday, I tried moving a chair at a meeting that I quickly realized was too heavy for me to lift. Someone moved it for me and I sat down. About 10-20 minutes later, I started getting stabbing pains about 1-2 inches below my main incision. Has anyone ever experienced this? I don't want to call my doctor just yet because: 1) I'm tired of bugging him and don't want to if this is a normal pain and 2) I don't have anymore time available to leave work (for x-rays and whatnot). The pain worsens when I try to bend and getting in the car is an absolute nightmare.
  6. I just saw a doc last week to start the revision process. He said he will remove the band and then 3-6 months later due to bypass. Guess its just doctors preferrence and scar tissue etc. I have alot of my appointments scheduled in april
  7. I thought I was really with it right after my surgery, but my husband told me the next day I was loopy and I guess he's right because thinking back I don't remember much until I woke up in my room later that day. My stomach hurt, but I didn't have nausea or a sore throat. sleep was sporadic because the nurses were coming in all the time and it was hard to find a comfortable spot. I was glad I had a hospital bed though, I can't imagine getting up and down without those hydralics. LOL My stomach felt like I had done a gazillion crunches and the muscles were not working. I was required to stay two days and really glad I did. I think the second day is much worse than the first and it was nice to have the TLC the nurses provided. I think my hardest part has been regaining my strength and stamina. I think between surgery and the liquid diet it put a strain on my system. Not sure if it makes a difference, but my surgery was a revision and took over two hours due to scar tissue from the band, so that may make my recovery a bit longer. Having the lapband was a piece of cake..... but the revision was harder. Hope my lil story helps Best of luck on Tuesday.... you will do great!!!

    Sleeve Coverage -Bcbs

BCBS CA here as well. What were the insurance requirements? I found out I'm covered (I am the employer and I guess got lucky that I picked the right plan that covers VST!). I am a lapband revision, but I'm concerned that I would qualify for a new procedure (33 BMI, etc.).

    Are you Sleeve to RNY?

I’d love to follow and join. I was sleeved Feb 2015 and lost 117 pounds. I gained 40 lbs of it back and some bile reflux. I’m scheduled to get revised to RNY on Oct 29th. I would love to hear more experiences with this revision.

    Are you Sleeve to RNY?

I had my sleeve done in 2017, lost 100 pounds, gained half of that back, and am now looking to have a revision to gastric bypass early next year. Am frustrated I failed the first time around, and that I didn’t go for a bypass in the first place. I’d be interested in joining the group.
  11. Happy Sunday! So yesterday was a great day, I ended up going shopping for a bit and then went out to dinner. I sat on the couch for a couple hours and chatted with friends. It was awesome. I woke up today feeling great and cleaned the kitchen and bathroom and exhausted myself. No going out today. My hubby has been shampooing our basement carpets today so I have been watching TV for the past couple of hours. Well my body is feeling awesome but so very weird. I have alot of the creepy crawly feelings which my hubby thinks is nerves reawakening. My scars are all really looking great. On my tummy scar though on the farthest spot on my right the skin is puckered alot. When I get my thigh lift I will get a revision there. My breast are still extremely swollen and hard. They kind of feel like when I had my babies and my milk came in. REALLY ENGORGED. We tried to find a bra but to no avail. I couldn't find anything without underwire in my size. I haven't taken pain meds, not even tylenol in 2 days. I know for sure when the drains come out I will be my old self. I can hardly wait for the rest of the swelling to go down so I can shop! I have lost weight every single day since surgery. I am glad I got that little bit of an unfill but not a total unfill. I can eat but still have restriction. My hubby is getting worried about my weight so he made me drink an eggnog shake today lol. I know it will all work out in the end. I can hardly wait to start excercizing. I have so much motivation right now. I want to tone my legs as much as possible before my thigh lift to get optimal results. I will be taking pics friday when I can put on some panties. I will post as soon as they upload lol. I have been putting up pics in my private album. Well, I am off to check on my hubby. Have a great Sunday evening!

    Bypass to Sleeve?

There is a good basic article on the subject over on OH: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/gastric-bypass-revision-surgery.html While it seems that the more common revision is to the duodenal switch, the article says that revising to the VSG can also be done. The DS generally has better regain resistance than the RNY or VSG, so that seems to be the more common revision, but this can be an even more individual issue than choosing the original WLS. The article goes into some of the considerations in revising including analyzing why the original surgery failed and determining the appropriate response - behavior mod, reworking the original procedure or revising to another. Another good article is this one: http://www.dssurgery.com/about/publications/duodenal-switch-safe-operation.pdf Revising an RNY is a complicated procedure that relatively few surgeons are qualified to do (or that one would trust to do,) so travelling is often involved. Is your sister near you in NJ? Dr. Roslin in NY is one, Rabkin and Keshisian in Calif are also well qualified. Posting to the revision board and DS board on ObesityHelp will get you some more help on this issue (even if the desired or appropriate revision is to a VSG, the folks on the DS board there tend to be very protective of their procedure and picky about surgeons' qualifications, so they can steer you to the best revision surgeons who can help guide your sister to the best answer for her.
  13. Starting my pre-op tomorrow & getting my revision on Tuesday. A little nervous but my Dr. seems confident everything will go OK.
  14. I am so scared from the pain , scared that the sleeve will not work for me because its a revision from Band to sleeve & I heard that version sleevers do better. Honestly I am fearing out ((

    Are you Sleeve to RNY?

I would appreciate joining this group. I was sleeved March 2014 and getting a revision to RNY on November 11th . I would love to hear others experiences. I’m curious if recovery is the same, if the Reflux goes away and if there is weight loss. Also wondering if they adjust the sleeve size in the process.
  16. Wow, I went to the mall, bought a new outfit at NY & CO then went and looked around victoria's secret then went to Target. All in all I was gone for only 2 hours but jeez I was exhausted. Oh I did stop by wendy's and got that damn cheeseburger. GAHH. I got home ate and crashed. I woke up 2 hours later. Whew. I think I bit off a little to much. Just because I feel good doesn't mean I can go gallavanting. lol. I noticed today that my left nipple is a little lower than it was before the popping I felt. It's very slight but before my nipples were exactly even now the left is just a tiny bit lower. I am hoping when I go for my thigh lift it can be revised. If not it's not like it's a big difference at all. I hope everyone has a wonderful evening!!

    Complications Kaiser SoCal

I asked about your Kiaser location for here because I was done though west la facility as revision my original was not thought them either. They only have Baratric doctors at certain facilities so after emergency room visit they had me drive to la to see one as local Kiaser did not have surgeon in that specialty. Lapband 9/11/07 227 pounds Vsg 2/13/18 Pre op diet 188 Sd. 180 Cw 167.4 Dr. scale says says one pound less First goal 169 2/26/18 Second 150 Goal weight 138
  19. I've heard of this...with devastating consequences. It happens most frequently with a very loose band that allows the stomach to slip up through the band causing death to the entrapped tissue, my surgeons PA warned me of this at the time of my complete unfill, which is ludicrous since my band wasn't even on my stomach, lol. You're very lucky. Are you going to revise?
  20. Hi Lisa, Yep those pre-op diets are not much fun are they? Still, any pounds lost are a victory, right? With such young kids it must be hard to concentrate on yourself. I gained most of my weight when I was too busy with my kids to pay attention to what I was eating and gaining... It is important to nail down a fill doc. Some people in some areas of the country have had trouble finding fill docs after banding in Mexico. I've inquired where I get mine done near Cincy and they charge a 1000 transfer fee and 400 per fill. This they said is pretty true across the board so you might want to do some shopping around. (They have fluoro there but just use it to check the status of your band, not for routine fills.) Cincinnati weight loss 1(513)939-2263 They said they charge so much because "some" people have come back from Mexico with outdated bands and/or missing ports. Dr Ortiz has a good reputation though. I had to have my (4cc) band replaced because of a pouch dilation. My pouch developed a huge bulge that would hold acidy fluid. I had terrible acid reflux and couldn't keep anything down. It was the result of being overfilled and throwing up too much. I hope I've learned my lesson! I just have a really slooow metabolism and feel the need to be somewhat overfilled to be OK. I've gone from a size 20 to a size 6 (still hard to believe) and I'm 5'7." When I needed the revision surgery, I found out that since I was self-pay, the insurance wouldn't pay for the surgery to correct the complication either! Sometimes my husband likes to figure out what my weight loss has cost per pound...but then he has to do it for himself too and he had the gastric bypass. So the moral of the story is know all your options. If Mexico costs less up front it may cost you more after the fact. If you are self- pay, check out the prices at the phone number above (and others) for before and after care. I think they give free fills for the first year when you have surgery with them. Ask them how many fills, on average, people may need before hitting that sweet spot. It may surprise you that it's more than just a few. I will check in with you later! Take care!

    SLOW RECOVERY?

I too had a revision (5/20). Although mine has gone very well...I have been off work for 3 weeks and in the last week I discovered that being out that long was good. I teach middle school and decided to pop in for the last day's awards ceremony. I was wiped from just doing that. Then yesterday I went to wrap up my classroom....again, wiped out from something so piddle. I even conked out both Sat & Sun by sleeping most of the day away. And today would be my back to work day but we're out now. I can't imagine the classroom right now, whew! I say all this because I have to remind myself I'm healing from major surgery even though it didn't cut me wide open. My 45 yr. old body needs time. I rest when I'm feeling bad and move when I'm doing well...listen to those signals. You & I both know why we did this....otherwise choosing the band in the first place wouldn't have happened (6yrs. ago for me). I want permanent change and I have to work on it a day at a time. You've mentioned you've been through a lot, but think how much you're gaining through these lessons....patience, listening to the body's signals, etc. All things we've not really done before this experience. Chin up...know there's a bunch of us out here trudging along with you and wishing you well. Good luck!

    SLOW RECOVERY?

Yeah, unfortunately it's normal. I was walking an 18 min. mile pre surgery....I'm back to that, but again, things for me have gone really well. Since you've had such a traumatic experience with things, cut yourself some slack. This healing/recovery is WAY different from band recovery. I was up in a week after my band. This time I had the removal, revision, & hiatal hernia repair (I got a 2-fer). I'm currently discovering all the things I didn't know our diaphragm muscle actually does, (oweee!). So, I just go with the signals. I worked in my classroom yesterday...today, walking will be my task. I try to set small goals each day. Week one only had 1 "biggie" a day. My first big goal was to wash my hair in the kitchen sink. That was all I could do so the rest of the day I sat & slept. Look at daily tasks...pick one as a goal and go from there. You're doing fine and it WILL get better. Just remember, your timeline isn't the same as everyone else's. Just go with it! :-)
  23. I had my revision from band to sleeve on 8/10. The gas pain is no joke. I expected it as I remembered what I went thru with the band. This is worse. I just keep walking, breathing, and sipping as the pain meds MIGHT take the edge off. I'm in Richmond.

    re banding after eroded

Photonut: You can only call it advertising if my goal is to get you to come to me for the revision. There are a number of LBT members who have emailed me privately and I have always tried to steer them to someone close to them. I will admit that the more bariatric surgery I do, the more I prefer gastric bypass. There, I've said it. I have an opinion. I still do Lapbands and try to help patients who've had them placed by others. That doesn't mean I think all bands should be removed... only the ones that aren't doing what they are supposed to do. Think of your operation as an investment like a stock. If you buy a stock and it goes down, you don't ride it to the bottom. You aren't married to it. You decide it isn't working for you and sell. That's all I'm trying to say here. If the tool isn't working for you, by all means do whatever you can to make it work, but if it continues to fail, you aren't married to it. Move on to something else. As far as adding a Lapband to a failed bypass is concerned, that's a completely different issue. There still isn't a whole lot of data out there on it. The rationale is to restore restriction in the face of a dilated anastomosis between the pouch and small bowel. "rebypass" isn't an option (though you can redo the procedure depending on what has gone wrong). That's a completely different issue from rebanding a previously banded patient. Rebanding is certainly an option, but so is bypass, and we know it works. Mark Pleatman MD
  25. I received word today, I've been approved for band to sleeve revision ! Pre-op testing to begin next week. This will be a 2 step procedure for me so band removal first. Very excited and anxious/ nervous at the same time. The process was quicker and smoother than anticipated....thankfully!
