Pre- op diet: shakes are so horrible
TheRealMeIsHere! replied to jersey0601's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried EAS AdvantEdge RTD? They are not as thick as some others. strawberry reminds me of strawberry Quik chocolate Fudge is like YooHoo Cafe Caramel tastes like iced coffee. Just keep trying different shakes till you find what you like, everyone's tastes are different. What about Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt? Yogurt counted as a liquid on my program, or even Protein puddings. Where can I find these? I had someone in my support group say the same thing, but I have been unable to find these in shake form (I can only find the protein powder.) I get them in Walmart, which has the best price here, or Shoprite. -
One month post op! Down 25 pounds but freaking out because weight loss has slowed !
dawnmac3903 replied to dawnmac3903's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@darima77 I have my Protein shake in the am and I add chia seeds and natural Peanut Butter to it. It comes out to 350 calories . Then I eat a Greek yogurt, then a string cheese, some cottage cheese , for dinner usually like half of a turkey burger . After the gym I drink a light muscle milk! It adds up quickly. Lately I've been getting around 1000 calories, because of my activity level and the weight is coming off a lot easier. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Advice on Unflavored Protein Powder
Starlitlove08 replied to deew57's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used ISO-Natural unflavored and mixed it with yogurt or with V-8 when I was on phentermine and doing a 1000 cal diet. I'm not sure what is allowed after surgery since I am not that far in the process but I enjoyed it and it kept me full. -

Advice on Unflavored Protein Powder
OKCPirate replied to deew57's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like pipingrock.com whey Protein. I use it to supplement my coffee, Protein shakes and yogurt. No flavor, dissolves well as long as you let the coffee cool a little. -
Puleeeeze don't make me drink another protein drink!

They told me I'll be eating Greek yogurt on the third day after surgery... Try sprinkling it with cinnamon... If your going to cheat might as well make it taste good Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I did have GERD prior to the sleeve but I also had a hiatial hernia. I was hoping with the hernia repair the reflux would stop. No such luck. Had an endoscopy about a month ago and it showed gastritis as well. I only eat chicken, fish, cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt and vegetables. No chocolate and no carbonation. After the scope, the surgeon ordered an upper gi. It showed achalasia and esophageal spasms which are uncommon. Right now I am waiting for the insurance to approve botox being inserted into the esophagus to relax the muscle and allow food to pass through as it should. I have been in heartburn hell for three months now.

1 day down 13 to go
OKCPirate replied to anabahs7878's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@anabahs7878 - I had the same thing. I think it was ending a bunch of processed foods, esp. diet soda that got me. Start getting rid of sugar. There are great tasting yogurts without it. This is also a great time to experiment and try foods you will use on week three post surgery. Really try HARD not to cheat. The goal is to shrink the liver so the docs have a straight shot to your stomach. I was glad I did it, because instead of being under for the normal hour, he was able to get it done in 30, much less recovery time. -
Not sure about the grams of sugar in the yogurt. My NUT recommended Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt. Most of these have around 8 grams of carbohydrate; about 7 of these seem to be sugar but I think most of that comes from lactose (the sugar in milk) as the ingredient list doesn't indicate any form of sugar being used (no corn syrup, HFCS, etc., just an artificial sweetener). The headache isn't uncommon- I think mine was gone by day 5 or so. Take tylenol for the headache and you should be OK.

I'm on my pre-op diet and have had a headache all day. Anyone else experience this? Also my list states I can consume low calorie yogurt, how many grams of sugar would be ok though? Thank yoy. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Pre- op diet: shakes are so horrible
leebick replied to jersey0601's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that I like the shakes made from powders better than the ready-made, preserved shakes. I make my shakes with unsweetened almond milk, or unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I really like the Syntrax Nectars. I also make a yogurt shake, with one of the almond milks and a container of Dannon lite and fit greek yogurt, but I add enough unflavored Syntrax protein to equal the amount of protein that I'd get from a regular shake. I suppose you could make these with skim milk instead, but I cannot stand the taste of skim milk and don't like to use it in anything! -

You could add avocado to your tuna and/or salad. You could add cheese. (Just about everything tastes better with melted cheese!) You could add a snack of Greek yogurt. Instead of a rice cake you could eat turkey, cheese, some nuts, or other similar protein. Or, put some Peanut Butter on your rice cake. (A good practice is to make sure to eat protein with your carbs.) Or, put peanut butter on a piece of fruit.

So I live at the beach... I know poor me! Well our tradition is to literally drive on with the 4x4, take some wood, start a fire grill dogs on a stick and that is our lunch. Of course there always some high carb potato salad and pasta salad and s'mores, cookies, chips, etc. Well I was sleeved last December and the old tradition does not fit in my new life. How would you change it up? Lean hotdog with no bun? Cheese sticks or yogurt in the cooler? Any tasty things I could grill on a stick and that are on the bariatric diet? Side note I am not dreading the bathing suit this year! Beach here I come!

How many ounces are you ACTUALLY eating?
Afrikanaaa replied to Afrikanaaa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Regular yogurt yes but Greek yogurt no for me anyway. Its high in Protein and thick. The ones I eat are within the sugar & carb guidelines set out by my NUT. My bad. I was talking about Greek yogurt. The Dannon Light & Fit version was recommended by my nutritionist. It's like 80 cals with 12g of protein. It's been super easy for me to get this down than other foods, but it is closer to a liquid than eggs so it makes sense. Lol -
Diet plan that I was given is f'd up
TLW replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really won't feel very hungry for a few months, but by your first month some easy digestible foods are Yogurt, scrambled eggs, shredded chicken, turkey with a broth (moist is the easiest to eat), peanut butter, protein shakes, sugar free pudding, sugar free jello. You basically will work on eating protein and very little 2-3 ounces will fill you, I know it sounds crazy, but I am a year post mop and 4 ounces of chicken fills me up. Also remember natural sugars versus processed sugar foods are very different. I haven't had bananas yet. Remember the majority of weight you lose will be during the first 5-6 months and the. It really starts to slow down, so enjoy the not feeling hungry and just focus on proteins, and keeping hydrated. I live on chickens, Powerade zero and coffee -
Diet plan that I was given is f'd up
KristenLe replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are so many things you can eat. My plan says protein first - then produce. No bread, pasta or rice. I can have omelets, crustless quiche muffins, Greek yogurt (watch sugar), protein smoothies (watch sugar), scrambled eggs, fruits, veggies, lean meats, tuna, salmon, baked fish, etc. The possibilities are endless. A banana would not be a good choice. You need to concentrate on protein. -

I am 3 days out of surgery and back in Canada. I dont know which one of the medicin is making my mouth taste horrible but I tried not taking anything and the stomach started feeling nasty so I got back on them after half a day. My main problem at the moment is this. If I smell that chicken broth from half a mile away, I am sure I will throw up. I am sick and tired of apple juice and even jello is not doing it for me. I am used to be being up and around and at the moment I can't even move around the house for longer than 5 minutes because my legs feel weak and I know it's due to the fact that I haven't eaten. Is there anything else I can be having instead of broth?? Diluted milk maybe?? The antibiotic is huge and nasty so I cut it in half and hide it in jello. This morning I had it with a spoon full of activia yogurt. And how much is too much for a meal at this point?? I do half a cup of diluted juice or 10 spoons ful of that nasty soup and then I stop since I am too scared and put off by the idea of broth. Are you guys taking all of the medicin given out by Mexico bariatrics??

Prior to surgery, I added it to plain Greek yogurt. Makes a great dip for apples and celery. It was the chocolate one. I personally couldn't taste the chocolate flavor.

Amid concerns for artificial sweeteners, more products are coming into the bariatric world that contain either stevia or monk fruit, which are naturally derived sweeteners. Stevia is actually a shrub. Monk fruit is an Asian melon and may be listed as luo han guo on the ingredient list. Several powder and liquid forms of water flavors now use stevia. These are easily available in grocery stores. Stevia can be plain stevia or listed as Truvia, which is a combination of stevia and erythritol. Erythritol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol and will have a few calories. For powder forms of water flavors, look for the Crystal Light Pure and the Great Value version from Walmart. Crystal Light Pure does have four grams sugar per half-packet, so some patients may not be able to tolerate this product. In the liquid drop form, brands to look for include MIO with stevia, Great Value version, Skinny Girl, Sweet Leaf and Stur. Add enough of these products to taste right for you. Too much can get super sweet in a hurry. For protein powders, look for Jay Robb and Syntrax Nectar Naturals. Even yogurts are joining in the natural sweeteners trend. Look for the Greek style yogurts Chiobani Simply 100 (has stevia and monk fruit) and Oikos Triple Zero (has stevia, look for black label). Experiment with different stevia or monk fruit sweetened products to see what you like.

Orbera balloon scheduled for 5/12
Sailor Doom replied to michelleg46's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
@@Wayward Traveler yeah, I'm not keen to stop my daily 40mg of Esomeprazole, the doctor said to stay on it for the six months and (I think) aside from treating any possible symptoms it can also act as a preventative for ulcer formation (which we would be susceptible to with the balloon constantly irritating our stomachs - or at least that is my understanding). While I haven't had reflux as I know it - the burny, vom in throat kind - I do wonder if my (very) mild discomfort these past two evenings is perhaps a small manifestation. Last night and tonight I attempted to 'up' my Protein by following my tasty but not terribly nutritionally valuable pumpkin Soup (150ml) with a strained chobani yogurt (150ml). I ate each over the course of 30 min with 30 minutes between, but tonight I still have this fullness behind my sternum and a feeling in my throat like I've got a big pill stuck there. Not terrible, certainly not enough to effect sleep or something... I wouldn't call it reflux because it doesn't burn, but maybe it is? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
