Hey, CUT YOURSELF SOME SLACK! This is not a magic wave of a wand! LOL. First of all, you have only had one fill! I don't know of anyone who really has restriction after just one or two fills, in general. I agree with the other post about recording calories and measuring food. I have a body bugg and they claim that people underestimate what they eat by as much as 40%! I do it because last year I wasn't doing it, wasn't logging food, etc., and I lost only 26 lbs all year! This year, I'm really committed and the weight is falling off. Do you exercise? That is SO important. It will really help. I exercise 5-6 days a week, but fit in 2-3 and you will see a difference. I don't see how short/tall you are, but I'm 5'8, have been banded 3.5 years, and the rumor is going around my little town that I had "something done" because SUDDENLY I'm SO thin!!! What a riot! SO, I had to lose 125 lbs before "anyone" noticed! It all depends on your body. Take a pix every month and you'll see it in your face among other places. SO, bottom line: give it a chance, give your body a chance to not be freaked out by the change, and kick some booty!!! Good Luck!

The above posters are right on. Take your body measurements too. Sometimes when you aren't losing lbs. you are still losing inches. I don't lose a lb. a week or whatever, I tend to lose several lbs. at once, but go for a few weeks without losing anything. Taking my measurements has helped to keep from being discouraged. I was so disappointed in my weight loss last month because my scales were just sitting there, but the day before I was to go for my fill I was down 5 lbs.; and by the docs scale the next day I was down 6 lbs. from 4 weeks before. I tend to hold some Fluid so I think that accounts for not seeing the gradual weekly weight loss.

I'm a few weeks post op and my dr. told me definitely NOT to expect any weight loss right now - he called this the healing part of the diet/band. He said it will come soon enough and that after we get into the green zone is when we'll really hit it. Try not to feel too discouraged - this isn't a sprint, it's a lifelong race but we can do it. YOU can do it. Hang in there and it will come.

So I am scheduled for surgery on November 29th. I started this in August. It didn't take too long as my insurance covers Lap-Band, and I didn't need a 6 month diet. I started my journey at 265 lbs. I am now at 250 lbs. I started journaling my food and exercising more than usual. Not too bad. I am now on the pre-op phase as prescribed by my Nut. I am not hungry but not really satisfied. I guess this will be the new normal. I think some of the problem is the pre-op liquid diet is mainly milk based and sweet, ie Muscle Milk Light, yogurt, fat free sugar free pudding, etc. I really don't have much of a sweet tooth. I look so forward to my two daily meals of Soup to get some savory. Thank God I can cook. I cooked a big pot of soup. Canned soup is not all that tasty, but I have some to mix things up. I found out the hard way yesterday about getting enough to eat. I was about an hour late for my evening mini-meal, and had a real soupy soup with little in the way of calories for lunch. It was canned soup...big mistake. I was sick with a headache and dizziness by evening, and I ate stuff not on my plan. I started my pre-op diet 2 days early (on Sat) and was doing okay before yesterday evening. I am back on track today and am being a lot more mindful about getting enough calories in as not to get low blood sugar and compensating by eating the wrong things. I also went for walk on my lunch break, like I usually do, which may have contributed to the incident later in the evening in conjunction with not enough calories. I am excited about my surgery! My husband is "cautiously optimistic" as I have lost and regained weight most of my life. One of my sisters knows and is very supportive. My mom and best friend know but have bombarded me with failure stories as they are both jealous. I have decided not to tell most of my friends and co-workers as I am also "cautiously optimistic" about them. My co-workers have no need to know. I have told everyone I am getting my gallbladder out which my dr. does do so it won't seem odd with my dr excuse. Most of my friends are obese and I really don't need any more failure stories or other forms of acting out of jealousy. I'll be in North Shore LIJ Syosset, on Long Island, with Dr. Geiss. I qualify for single incision, and if all goes well, I'll go home the same day instead of staying over night as I am healthy other than being obese. I have bought most of the things I need post-op. I need to get a Fiber supplement and Vitamins. Any one else being banded on the 29th? Good luck to all out there in Bandland.

I am four weeks post op and the same exact thing happened to me. Right out of surgery I lost 10 pounds and then gained like 3 pounds and then nothing until the very end of week 3 when all of a sudden I lost 10 pounds again. Its really weird what the body does. But I think right before you loose or it lets go it stores as much of whatever you are giving it until it has no choice but to let it go. Don't worry about the scale, it will move sooner or later but it will move. Focus on getting fluids, calories, and Protein and focus on taking your Vitamins and starting a routine. Once you get this down the rest will fall into place. Good luck, one day at a time, this is a lifetime journey.

I haven't been banded yet but am starting the process. I attended the seminar on March 8th and sent in all my paperwork, but on March 19th I received a call from the admin stating that my insurance company (BCBS of Arkansas- with my husband's work) would only cover $4,000 and the total amount they submit to insurance is about $35,000!!! I'm not sure why the cost is so high! I've heard several people mention prices around $10,000 - $18,000. So now I'm battling with the insurance company, trying to get dropped from that plan so I can enroll in Aetna through my work. All of this information came to light right after the close of benefits enrollment for both of us, so it looks like I might be waiting until next year to start my journey. It might be for the best as I want to make darn sure that this is the right decision for me. I've been overweight since childhood and have tried every fad diet, exercise program, gym membership, etc... that's out there. I'm tired all the time and have terrible problems with both of my feet that make most exercise an absolute nightmare. It also seems like I'm spending more and more money- year after year- to lose weight and end up heavier every time! I'm definitely looking forward to advise, tips and testimonials from those who have already been banded and those of you who might be in the same tight spot as I am.

How long did it take you to lose 100 lbs?
ProudGrammy replied to MK1986's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How long did it take you to lose 100 lbs? MK1986 the common thing all sleevers "share" is that we are all different if someone has more weight to lose - the weight initially usually comes off quicker same way if you don't have that much to lose, it "might" take you longer to get to your goal in my case i wanted to lose 100 lbs in about 9 months i had lost about 85 lbs it took me 3 months to lose the last 15 lbs - but i did it!!!! don't look too far ahead take one day at a time enjoy each day, even thought you will have the common stalls you will continue to lose your weight but..........never compare your weight loss to others you are on your way to a healthier, happier, longer life good luck kathy "God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It" -
I created a survey of questions related to lap band surgery. I would like for those of you who have had lap band surgery and are at least 3 to 6 months post surgery to take this survey. The survey is completely anonomous. It is limited to 100 entries, so I will share the results after 100 people have taken the survey or a week from now, whichever is sooner. This is just a survey to help me better understand how people feel about their decision to be banded. There are only 9 questions and they are: 1. How tall are you? 2. What was your weight pre-banding? 3. What is your current weight? 4. Select which type of diet you follow: 5. Exercise 6. How much total weight did you lose from the day of banding until (sorry these may not appear in order): 7. If you could do it all over again, would you get banded? 8. Please select which best suits you: 9. Do you wish you had selected a different weight loss surgery? Please answer these questions via the survey. Please only take the survey only once. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=678442574739 P.S. I'm a newbie to this survey thing so I'm praying this works :nervous (but actually its a pretty cool website to create your own surveys (surveymonkey.com)

Because of Insurance my lap band surgery is not scheduled till February 2009. I tried cutting down on my eating prior to the surgery since my dietician recommended it. It hasn't worked and I put more weight on. My husband is upset with me saying if I can't cut down now the lap band is not going to work. I am worried and wish I could have the procedure done sooner. What are your thoughts ?

You guys have no idea. Lately I have had absolutely no restriction. Especially late in the day and at night. Mornings are fine. The other day I ordered an omellete and had about a quarter of it and I was fine. But now yesterday at night, I had a whole plate of food, and probably could've kept going had there been more. ARGHHH, it pisses me off, I am down now 20 lbs since 8-20 and I feel like I am gaining again. Everything otherwise feels great. No more port pain, nothing. Even my scars are practically disapearing by the day.

Oh man do I need help......
FDATrialGuineaPig replied to JC_GODOLPHINS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
JC, your weight loss is stellar and you just need a fill. You may stall or actually (gasp) gain a couple of pounds before it happens. But please don't fret. The body actually likes thinking it's getting a bunch of calories again...sets you up for another nice drop after your fill. Relax--you're normal and your tummy is almost completely healed now. I could eat pretty much preop about 2 weeks after my surgery and it stressed me out. I wished someone would have told me back then that I was NORMAL! -
I'm 6ft tall, I started at 305lbs with severe comorbids, had surgery on 31OCT 2012 started lifting light weight at 6 weeks

4 Days After Surgery And Worried
msvickee replied to girlnamedNikki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although every surgeon's post op is different one thing I think is consistent is being on those liquids the first 2 weeks. You've eaten part of a sandwich, oatmeal, etc really too much for your new stomach. As I've stated in a previous thread, compare your new stomach to a baby's stomach. At one week old you wouldn't give a baby a piece of sandwich or Cereal...you give him liquids. Your surgery will help you loose the weight but it's a tool you will have to do your part. Get your Protein shakes in and sip your Water throughout the day. You can do this! You just need to get a regime going -
I am in tears, I found out that my insurance does not cover any form of weight loss. I don't understand how they will pay for a pap smear to prevent cervical cancer or mammogram for breast cancer but they won't cover Lapband or gastric bypass to help with cancers and numerous other things. Does anyone know if there is an insurance company that offers health insurance with bariatic that you can buy as an individual plan? I am in search of dumping my current health insurance I get through work to get this done. I started Weight Watchers and I am starving, it sucks! Please help with any information on an individual plan. Thanks

Over Year Out...how Has Your Life Changed?
kmbrlycool replied to Aussiegirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations!!! Did you encounter any major stalls during your weight loss? If so, what did you do to overcome them? -
I know I have read and even posted about the stalls...but I am becoming depressed. I lost 20ish pounds and even endured a 2nd week stall but I am going up on the scale these last few weeks. I am struggling with eating soft foods so I backed up and went back to runny, liquid and/or mushy foods. Doing better eating but still very depressed when looking at the weight itself. I walk several miles a day and eat my Protein...I also drink my Water. I am not eating any sugary foods, no sweets (can't with the sugar dump I get right away) and hardly any carbs. Last weds I weighed 179, this week I weigh 182 :-( I just want all these issues I am having to seem worthwhile. Eating difficulties, pain, small portions etc. TIA everyone...for letting me vent. J

Went for check up today and Dr. said I was clear to do whatever I felt like no restrictions even go back to work. I am an RN so I have a 50lb weight requirement and he said go back whenever I thought I was ready he would sign the paper. Nice. I think I will stay off for the next 4 weeks just to use up some of my sick bank time!!!!! I started out at 265lbs on surgery day (I'm only 5'4") down to 254 today!!!

O.k... that funk didn't last too long... I am back to positive and feeling great about my loss. I finally (after alot of tinkering) have discovered that it takes me eating less than 1000 calories a day to lose. I also have to have a solid workout at least 6 days a week. I lost the weight that I had gained last weekend from the little bit of cheating that I did at the casino... I know that I still am coming up way short on my loss, but today i realized that I haven't weighted this "little" in about 8 months! I actually reached my mini goals of doing the intermediate level aerobics, AND I got to get some bins of clothes out of the attic and I can fit into the size 18 jeans! Yeah!

I have lost a lot of weight and so much energy but no matter how much you loose. 4 to 5 hours of sleep is not enough. Sometimes that just happens and I have to make it up somehow.
-
As long as it went back down, I wouldn't worry about it either. Even when I was pregnant, on mirena not getting my period, breastfeeding not getting my period.. I still had temporary weight gain, moodiness, and even cramps one a month. It was weird but not much I could do about it. Maybe try drinking water and working out during that week... the more you drink the less you retain.

I went through Menopause (or am going through it) haven't had my period in 2 years. I still get bloated and gain a couple pounds every month or two. It used to drive me nuts.... eh, now I just ignore it. You still get some of the symptoms weather you actually get your period or not. Try not to let it bug you cuz there is nothing you can do about it. Good Luck!
