  1. LOL Leigha--I thought the same thing too when I got up this morning @ Anne's surgery being today. So glad we didn't miss the chance to say good luck! We're glad you're still here with us, Anne! Leigha, a wawa is a convenient store we have here on the east coast (like a 7-11 type). Sodas, subs, cigs (yuk), coffee, candy, things like that. There is almost one on every corner. You are doing freaking awesome with the running! Go girl!!! I am so excited to hear about that NSV! I wonder if my thighs will always touch at this point. You never know, but it's good to know of someone that is able to say theirs don't anymore, so you are going to be my inspiration and hope LOL! My husband is quite the smart ass too. And what is up with all the boob comments? My hubby is mad that I'm down to a 38D. I can finally shop at Victoria's Secret and he's mad???? Far cry from my 46F, but whatever. I am no longer hunchback LOL! Ummm, okay I would have been totally freaked by that dead monkey btw. HB---niiiiice!!! I'd certainly consider THAT an NSV. Very cool! LOVE the comforter set by the way. Bobbie--wanna have a slumber party at Crystl's? I'll bring the margaritas ! Jacki--congrats on getting into those 10s and zipping them up! That's an awesome feeling!! I bet in no time at all, they will turn out to be your 'comfy' jeans :-)! I am about 20 minutes from the Phila zoo too---I can't believe what a small world it is! Shammah-- Happy (belated) anniversary and congrats on 7 years of marriage! May you have a hundred more :-) Love the pic! You look great and you can see a major difference! Keep up the great work! Dottie--Don't give up on that puzzle! Maybe if you do it like Leigha says and doing it in small bits, heck you can make it into two 1,000 piece puzzles :-)! Stacie--Half way there!!! WOW! You should be SO proud of yourself! All your hard work is paying off! Christie--glad you're feeling better. More importantly, glad you're able to EAT again!!! Denise--I'm both jealous and inspired by you. 5 lbs to goal! You are amazing! How about this freaking thread about following the rules? Spartan surely handed them their a$$. Holy crap! Sometimes I think people try to stir the pot and start things like that. Not a full blown troll, but someone that likes to ignite a good sized debate. I think a lot of them are forgetting the purpose of the board in the first place. Thank God we have this thread. It's too easy to get caught up in the negative stuff. Really and truly.
  2. It's so nice to hear from those who have not checked in for awhile. Dottie, I put away my 2000 piece puzzle not too long ago. It was just too hard to do alone. Sandy, welcome and feel free to jump in the thread anytime you want. I guess I had what qualifies as an NSV today at work. A man came right out and told me "You are a very attractive woman." " In fact, you are HOT!" I thanked him. It did make my day. He was totally flirting with me!
  3. Shammah--Happy Anniversary! Sandy-- We are glad your here. Jacki-- Congrats on the 10's, BTW what is a Wawa? Dottie-- You can always put the puzzle back in the box, leaving big chunks together and go back to it later if you feel like it. Oh and I get your chat messages on FB but when I try and reply it says you are offline! Yesterday when I was running there was a dead monkey beside the road. Y'all are saved from a picture since I was not suppose to stop. That is probably the strangest thing I have ever seen while running. NSV alert! My thighs no longer touch when I am standing with my feet at shoulder width. I was at least 23 the last time that happened.:waytogo::biggrin: My husband congratulated me on my thriftiness yesterday. (I am still not sure this is a complement.) He said "Way to go on getting a two-fer on your surgery!" So when I asked what he meant he said "A lap band and a breast reduction! Anyone want to borrow a smartass for a while?

    NSV shout outs

Thanks for that post. I went to the site and I too am only overweight! Not obese any more. YAAA! that is a great NSV. I just keep seeing how fat I am and how much I still have to loose. So, seeing that page gave me a healthy slap back to reality. AND,even better still, according to that site~~ for my age and height I am NORMAL!!!! I still wanna loose down to the medical ideal of 150 though. LOL I am gonna change my calculator to 150. That is only 32 lbs more, so I can do it. Not easy, but I can with my sleeve helper.
  5. I know I've been absent from this thread, and I'm so sorry -- It sounds like everyone is doing well! I just had to pop in to share a recent NSV with folks who understand. I'm currently wearing size 12 jeans that I bought about a month ago from Old Navy. (My last pair of new jeans was a 17 from Target, and they were exciting to fit into back in, oh, it was March, I think?!) I picked up a size 10 when I bought these 12s. What the heck, right?! The 12s have been getting baggy, and so Saturday, while dressing to head to the Philadelphia Zoo, I figured it was time to try them on again. You know how you keep trying every few days and there ain't no way, no how? Well, I got them on! Zipped, buttoned and everything. 'Course I could only wear them for about 30 minutes before I either had to pass out or decide I wanted to wear my comfy shorts instead. Ha! But I did it! :waytogo: Now it won't be long before I fit into the 9s I have hanging by my refrigerator! I stare at them every day and dream. Woohoo for NSVs! I've been riding my bike to work every single day. 9 - 12 miles depending on if I need a Wawa fix or not. That's a little Mid-Atlantic love for you, right there. I love my Wawa. Also, my work schedule is different now until September, so I can fit in more classes at the gym. Tonight I'm going to explore a Yogalates class. I am so excited. Two things I love, rolled into one! Hope you're all having a great Monday! Ten days until I get a little break from work for a few days. w00t! We're putting up our pool and I want to do nothing but ME. No work, no volunteering, just ME!

    Lets Celebrate !!!!!

I had several NSV over the Memorial Day weekend.. I flew up to MD to visit friends. For the first time in I can't remember HOW many years.. I did not need a seatbelt extender... AND... I was able to use the bathroom on the plane.... I truly can't remember how many years it has been since I could do that... I was so excited when I got the seatbelt buckled I actually did a little jig in my seat... and it was a VERY full flight and there were lots of people in the aisle.. needless to say, I got a few strange looks.. LOL

    Lets Celebrate !!!!!

I'm so excited for you, SweetBean - wear that 'Rockin' outfit now, if you have an occassion for it! I'm sure you'll look HOT! Hang in there, BKMom - Like SpideyMom said, celebrate the NSV's - you've made a choice and are on the path to an overall healthier lifestyle - that is a HUGE accomplishment to be proud of!!! And Ann - congrats on the size 8 I think I was size 8 at birth (my Mom told me I was the largest baby in the nursery at the time ) I'm currently in a size 12, which I never thought I would fit in again, and I'm hoping for a 9/10 - that would be heaven for me! My NSV this past week was on our family vacation to the beach - I was boogie boarding and body surfing with my young boys, making sand castles, and I went for a 25 minute run barefoot on the beach at sunset. I felt so light and full of energy - what a HUGE difference from last summer! And I was down 2 lbs when I got home - I LOVE THE BAND!!!!

    Had some steak on Sunday...

On a positive note, our team just won 1st place at our steak cook-off this weekend! I can eat around 3-4 oz of the tender rib eye which is nice. A couple of NSV's cames out of this first steak cook-off post surgery. 1. I was able to last all day without massively sore feet and back. 2. I had more energy through the day in spite of the blistering heat. 3. And my 2x team shirt now fit me instead of having to use my own "iron-on" shirt version that was 3x like I did last year.
  9. Awesome!!! What a great NSV. I have never seen one of my rib bones or hip bones in my life lol. The collar bones are around even now at 280 so I'm greatful for that  But I know I'll be just as thrilled as you when I see one of the others! Congrats!
  10. Good Morning One and all !!! ok, where to start? Anne - Woot! Woot! I agree, I'd have done the same, given the circumstances. I'm SO happy you can finally move forward!! Dottie - I LOVE Water Aerobics - its the Best! i'm hoping once I get myself on sure financial footing again, I'll be joining our Y again for water fun. Bob - hope you enjoy more of your trip besides seeing the bottom of a glass ( and NO, i'm not talking about you seeing the TOP of the glass either! ) lol !! ps - your babies ARE adorable :-) Amy - Welcome! and AWESOME NSV!!!!! Michael - Michael ? Michael ??? Yoo-Hoo!! Have we lost you already?? Leigha - SO proud of you and your c25k! Bets - Proud of you too! I see your "BB" updates on FB ... way to go! Everyone else - I'm sorry - I know I'm forgetting some of you! But I'm at work right now, and need to keep it a bit short. Yeah, work totally KICKS ASS! :-) I LOVE it !!! Man, times must still be really difficult out there. 3 friends of mine have lost their jobs in the past 5 days. :-( I thank god every dayI have my job, my health, my incredible good looks and awesome personality :-D Well, back to working, and lurking... lol Have a super weekend !!!
  11. So, I'm getting ready for work this morning & kinda got frantic. I tried on one pair of pants - too big. Tried on another pair of pants - too big. Went to the smallest ones I have and thought "whew! this works". Typical morning - rush, rush, rush. Drop the youngest off at daycare & drive into work with my hubby (we work at the same company, same building, same floor - LOL). Thursday are free coffee days in my department, so my hubby always comes by to chat. Yeah right - we all know he wants free coffee. Part of his "charade" is to stop by my desk. He walks in my office & sees me standing up. He's like "What are you wearing? Those clothes are falling off of you." I was crushed. I was like "it's all that would fit". He says back "Those do not fit. You need to show off how you are looking, not hiding behind those clothes. At lunch, we are going shopping and buying you some clothes that fit." Luckily, there is a decent thrift store near work, so we went at lunch. The pants I had on were 12's. I went over to the 9/10 section, held up pants and went "no way" ... but, decided to try them on anyway. Every single pair I tried on fit!!!!! Some were too short or I didn't like them when I got them on. But, THEY ALL FIT! Some were even a bit loose. I can't remember the last time I fit into 10's. Maybe for a week or two in my twenties, but that's it. WHAT A DAY!
  12. Anne---Keeping my fingers crossed for you!! Keep us updated and yes PLEASE don't totally leave us for "that" board lol. Amy-Isn't it awesome??!!! My husband is finally happy that I "hoarded" all of my old only fit for a second clothes because now I need to buy less! :tt2: Of course I am having NO PROBLEM getting rid of these big one Michael-Welcome!!! Christie-Hope you had a nice relaxing weekend Dottie-wasn't it your daughter who had her surgery not long ago? How is she doing? Denise-I was ROTFL at A$$ GASKET! (that is such a helpful little tip though) Bobbie-Did you get lost in Bob's world? Bob-I do believe on at least one occasion I was guilty of calling you Brian (only because I think someone else did though!!) Oh and congrats on the NSV Hmmm life for me has been a non-stop stressor lately! I have come home from work crying like everyday! It makes me want to fall back on old habits. I haven't gained weight, but I haven't been eating as well as I know I should nor exercising like I should :tt2:. By the time I get home (cause putting in alot of OT) I am so physically and mentally drained that I just want to go to bed! I have defintly broken into ONEDERLAND now though and want to stay there FOREVER!!!!! I went to the store to buy a few new things and I didn't even have to go to the "Women's" section (since it's not PC to call it the Plus section anymore). They were just T-shirts though so I know if it was a button up shirt I would still be in the + section...the girls aren't budging for now. Oh well at least they stick out more than my gut . It offsets lol.
  13. NSV!!!!!!!!! WOOO! Last night I was looking for clothes to wear to work today and buried at the bottom of one of my drawers was one of those pairs of jeans that I bought slightly too small forever ago and maybe fit into for about 5 minutes so even though they're probably something like 7 or 8 years old they still look brand new. Being that before I was in a tight 24 or a loose 26 I didn't these shiny new 20's (small 20's :tt2:) would fit. And as I started sliding them up my legs I thought to myself "You're just setting yourself up for some disappointment. Wait another month or so!" but those 20's kept sliding on all the way up over my butt and lo and behold, the button and the buttonhole were united easily and I jumped for joy and ran around the house screaming like a little girl! I scared my poor puppy. He ran under the bed. And my husband just laughed at me but I could tell he was happy for me  I've been in them all day and they are sooo comfy!

    Lets Celebrate !!!!!

That's great that you haven't given up, bkmom! That in itself is huge! So let's celebrate that and take it one day -- or one hour -- at a time. And don't forget to look for those non-scale victories: compliments from people, changes in ring size, watch size, shoe size, underwear size, jean size, having to move the car seat closer, being able to paint your own toenails, being able to *see* your toenails, not having to turn sideways in the hallway when someone else is coming... smaller things that we might not think about when we're frustrated because the scale isn't moving down. Everyone has these NSVs -- we just have to stop and think about them! So who else has something to share? :tongue2:
  15. OK, not sure if this counts as an NSV, but I went to run today about 8:30 its probably 90 degrees. So I mapped out a 5K and I do the C25K and walk the rest of the way. I had finished running and was walking past the bank when I noticed that there was a water spigot in the grass by the sidewalk with the cover off. So I stopped, got on my knees. and proceeded to wash my face and neck and have a drink. Then my neighbor from across the street pulls up next to the sidewalk, sees me and asks if I need a ride home! (Smartass!)

    NSV shout outs

I'm still very early on in the process but I had two NSV's today. Firstly, when I was walking this morning I looked down and what did I see? Or rather... NOT see? My tummy! It wasn't sticking out past my boobs! When I looked in the mirror later from the side I can see it does still stick out a bit past... but when I'm walking with good posture and whatnot, I can't see it. This is awesome because just 2 weeks ago I would look down and see it sticking out a good 3-4 inches. The other thing is I have a pair of jean shorts I wore in my before pictures and they were very very tight when I wore them for those photos a little over 3 weeks ago. Today I put them on easily and comfortably, and I can even fit both hands in there because the waist is loose now. I wouldn't be able to wear a smaller size yet because it's still snug around my lower stomach, but I was just really happy to see how much looser they've gotten.
  17. Michael--Welcome to the thread!!! Way to go on your loss! You should be very proud! Amy--glad your lil fill got you to a good place! Keeping my fingers crossed that it holds steady! Denise-- LOLing at the a$$ gasket, but sorry to hear you got stuck at the meeting. Awesome that no one noticed. Palm Springs? You lucky dog!!! I would have soooo loved to have seen a clip of the karaoke night. Karaoke is tons of fun--especially when you're drunk! That's the only way I do it because my sister gives me crap about 'singing for real' when we go out, so I just stopped doing it until I get so drunk that it sounds like my tongue is tied to my freaking cheek LOL HB--Wooohooo! Look at you in those lil jeans! Congrats! Bob--congrats on your NSV too! The towel thing is one of the best feelings! It's the little things LOL Leigha--love the pic of you. You look like such a runner ! You continue to look AMAZING!!! Betsy--haven't seen a recent update from you. Everything okay in your world? How's Mark doing? I see your Bugg updates on FB. You are burning some SERIOUS calories, chica! Bobbie--haven't "seen" you around either. How's the new job? Hope you're still loving it! Dottie--I'm glad the scale is moving again for you! 25 lbs to go? Woohooo!!!!!! Look at you, still working it even with being restricted with your knees. You should be very proud of yourself, girl! Please don't apologize for whining. I'm stuck at 165, 15 away from my first goal, 20-25 away from my 'secret' goal and all I can do is obsess and get pissed about the "gain 2 lose 1" cycle. It will happen, your body is just getting so close to where it needs to be it's giving you a little reality check. Believe me, your persistence and hard work will pay off. Unfortunately, the final stretch is just the longest is all. I hope you are recovering well. Take a pic of that puzzle when you're done! Christie--how was your 'boyless' weekend? Do anything fun (not that weeding in the oppressive heat isn't LOL)? I bet you miss him though and you're ready for him to come home tomorrow. Things are okay here, can't complain. I did fail my PMP exam on Friday, but it's cool. I'm actually very proud of myself. You need to be proficient in 5 out of 6 domains to pass and I was proficient in 4 out of 6, so I came really close. Oh well, planning for getting back on the horse already. No sense in dwelling on the past. Time to turn it around make some lemonade! Have a wedding this weekend in Cape May and I have gotten into a "new" old dress that has been sitting in my closet just waiting to be worn for 6 months. Fully beaded, sequins galore and a size LARGE!! Holy crap! I am so excited to wear it! Hope everyone is doing well!

    Really bad day...

I noticed your ticker says 40lbs lost... did you lose a lot on the preop diet? As far as the scale showing nothing- what about NSVs? Are you noticing clothing fitting better or to big? Is your endurance increasing? Muscle tone? I think you need to go easy on yourself and celebrate all the success you HAVE had... 40 lbs that is freaking awesome!!! Maybe try increasing your calories a bit?

    Second thoughts...

Don't worry! It's NORMAL to have doubts and question your decision. This is a big step you are taking! That said, 18 months ago, I weighed 230 pounds and today I'm at 153, two pounds under my goal (and 8 from my aspirational goal). It's a good feeling!! The thing that helped me the most during my pre-op questioning of my decision was to make a pro/con list about the surgery. Here is a link to my list. Once I wrote it out, the decision was clear. I read that list many times, and every time I did, it just reinforced for me that I was doing the right thing. Now, with the benefit of hindsight, I see that I really did make the right decision. This ride has been very enjoyable. I have loved all the NSVs, I haven't been hungry or felt deprived, and I was able to get free from feeling badly about myself and my body every single day. These days, I shop where I want, I am in the best shape of my life, and I actually LIKE how my body looks. I just wore a bikini on vacation for the first time since college, and I even put a photo of myself wearing it on my blog! I never imagined at the outset of this process that something like that would be possible, but it happened!! Definitely give the pro/con list a shot. It's a great tool, and no matter what you decide, at least your decision will be well thought-out. With best wishes, Catherine

    NSV shout outs

My first NSV shout out! I had my surgery on May 25th, and I am already down 32 pounds. Yeah me! This is going to be such a wonderful experience for me and my family...

    4th of July Challenge!

Can't actually post my stats this week as I am away from my own scale, visiting my family near Boston. There are three scales here...each tells me a different weight and a different amount lost. Go figure. PLUS I have been hanging out with my sister who has dragged me...kicking and screaming, I assure you all... into several of her favorite candy shops. The undeserving wench is still a size 8. There is no justice. My NSV here is that even with the siren calls of dark chocolate non pareils and Jordan almonds I seem to have kept close to my calorie target. We will not discuss Dunkin' Donuts in this forum due to sensitivity for those who are weak of heart (like me).

    NSV shout outs

Brenda, That is the best NSV ever! Congratulations to you! I had tears of recognition in my eyes as I read your story. Amen Sister. Airplanes used to be so humilating. The shame/blame is leaving bit by bit. These shout outs are wonderful in the way they remind me of how far I have come. Thanks to everyone that posts here. It is still so easy to slip back to the old mind set, even thu the clothes don't fit anymore, the stinkin~thinkin lurks.

    NSV shout outs

This is the first time I have an NSV to report. I when on a business trip this week , flew to Mn. by plane, asked as I was broarding the plane for a seat belt extender as I usually have, Sat down in my seat decided to try the seat belt without the extender just to see if it would fit and low and behold it not only fit but I was able to cinch it tighter by 2-3 inched. On the trip home I got daring and tried to put the tray table down (I always try without being able to use it) and it went down flat and I didn't have to force it. I haven't been able to do eithere for more years than I can remember, next time maybe I can get the armrest down to. Brenda

    NSV: no seatbelt extender needed!

GREAT NSV! and great milestone! Stuff like that feels sooo good!

    NSV: no seatbelt extender needed!

That is so awesome. I am looking forward to that NSV myself. I can report that my wedding ring is sliding on and off again with relative ease. It was just swollen around my finger. Not bad for being banded less than a month. You Go Girl!!! Keep it up. I hope to follow you soon.
