How are the band to bypass folks doing? I had surgery end of November. I have lost 54 lbs. at exactly three months out. I have 65 lb to go. It feels very slow. Doc said revisions lose slower.

    Surgery On 12-12-12

I just had my revision on Monday. So happy I got it! I'm not hungry right now and I never had that feeling with the band. I was banded in 2006. I'm 34 and mom to a 3 year old and I can't wait to play with her without getting to tired or short of breath after 5 min. Pre liquid died weight wad 240 and morning of surgery was 229. I'm at 233 right now but they say its just Water rention from surgery. Good luck to you and keep me posted! Lisa :-)<br />surgery date: Dec. 4th, 2012
  3. Yes, there is a whole Band-to-Sleeve revision board on here. Congrats to you! It's a good feeling isn't it? I had my revision almost 1 month ago. I still struggle with the fluids like you. I didn't have much pain and felt ready to go to work after about a week. What kind of work do you do? It might actually be fine to go back. One caution though, my NP scolded me for going back soon not because I was harming anything but because I work in an environment where it is difficult to get fluids (I work in the OR) so she wanted me to have more time getting my hydration back up before going back. But beyond that, if you don't have a lot of lifting to do and you can drink throughout the day, you are probably ok to go back to work if you want. I still find it weird not having a port anymore. I had my band for almost 6 years. Good luck and welcome!
  4. Happy Healing, i have heard revisions are becoming more common ( from the sleeve). im excited and nervous i have the sleeve and i barely eat as is.

    Port revision

I had port revision after a slip. I, also, may need to eventually get a smaller port because it has turned over to make room as my surgeon says happens after a large amount of weightloss. Best wishes. Karen

    Cheating

I'm on day 4 of my 10 day liver reduction diet and have had a bit if food each day. Usually more veg, some lean protien, or cottage cheese. Mine is very strict (3-4 protein shakes and 1/2 c. Non-starchy veg each day), and I'm confused why I'm even on it, as I am getting a revision that is altering my intestine where the large and small connect, at the opposite end from where the pouch and liver are. I'm going to call the dietician tomorrow to ask about it. All the liquid is killing me, and I'm a teacher and can't just go to the bathroom whenever I want. :-( (Also, this diet is making me whiny. Please excuse my mope.)
  7. So, I was banded 7/2008, got pregnant in 8/08. Didn't "use" band until my daughter was born, so first fill was in May 09. In November 09 started having bad symptoms - food coming out onto pillow when I slept at night. So, I guess you'd say severe regurgitation. I thought it was just part of being banded. Well needless to say I let my symptoms go and go and finally went in to see my doctor in March, he took some fluid out of the band, went back again in April and he took some more fluid out of the band, had an upper GI, scheduled a band revision for yesterday and low and behold I HAD A HIATAL HERNIA......please if you have any wierd symptoms like I did go and see your doctor don't wait. Ugg...

My prep from lap band to sleeve

Hello and welcome I too had the band lost some weight had issues eating anything healthy. 3 years ago I had the sleeve lost more weight but am having troubles keeping it off. I am now going to revise to the gastric bypass; I guess I should have had this surgery in the first place!! You are doing the right thing in tackling your weight issues and revise to another one. I think the band was a bad idea for most and you will read here that many revise. Best wishes to you

    Is something wrong with me?

My best friend has this problem as well. She is 7 months post op and she can eat a like a 'normal' person already. She was starving and able to eat a lot more post op than what the nutritionist and surgeon told her to expect. The surgeon actually offered to revise her bypass and make her pouch smaller and she declined. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    That feeling of fullness?

Hey Laura, Good for you getting that band out! Yep.. most those symptoms will be the same. When I eat a couple teaspoons too much I feel horrid. I measure stuff out, usually 1/2 a suggested portion and work my way up from there. The best thing for me to learn is that if I'm satisfied with a small amount, but still crave more, I can have more later. This past week I was craving spaghetti. I made my favorite sauce and put it over spaghetti squash. I ate a measured portion each night....but I ate it four nights in a row. (until the craving was satisfied). As for Water, right now I can take 3 swallows at a time, if I try for 4 I feel like I can't get it down. Warm liquids go down easier for me these days, maybe because it's bitterly cold up here and I shiver everytime I think of choking down another cold Protein shake!. You're gonna do great....getting back to basics is a good thing..I had to do it after my revision so I understand what you're going through. Best wishes,
  12. You are doing swell! As for the tummyache issue, it might be lactose intolerance doing it to you. Try mixing Almond Breeze milk into the Protein powder to see if that won't help; soymilk might also work but it has more calories in it than the Almond Breeze--I get both at costco for reasonable prices, and also my protein out there is good, too. I use Muscle Milk lite in vanilla flavor to make my shakes with. Sometimes, I will add half of a banana to flavor it with--tastes very good! You could also try frozen blueberries in the shake which also is a nice tradeoff from plain vanilla. I think as you get farther along postop, you will do much better! I am 5-6, and right now weigh 186. I started this journey as a revision surgery patient from RNY to sleeve in May of this year--a first for the doctor I had. Normally, they do band to sleeve revisions. My bypass failed 5 yrs ago and I had developed hypertension that I cannot be treated for with meds due to severe allergies to all of them! Weight loss is my only intervention--I feel better than I have in years! My goal is to maintain at 145-150. My weight at the onset of sleeve surgery was 223.5 pounds--at the time of bypass surgery in 2001, I was 264. I never wanna see those 200s EVER again!!! It is great hearing from you, Dawn! Wishing continued success and keep me posted on your progress! Ronda I agree about the carbs, I try to avoid them for the most part and concentrate on the Proteins also. I saw the doctor for my check up today and I've lost 10lbs since my surgery. The doctor was happy with that and said slow loss is better for me since I have less to lose. I can't do the protein shakes. For some reason they give me a stomache ache. The doctor said to get my protein from my food instead. He also said that I can cut down the total protein from 75 grams to at least 50 grams. I am short only 4'10' and he said I don't need 75 grams of protein so I can stop stressing about getting so much protein. That was a relief for me as I have been feeling really worried about not getting enough protein. I also think that since I am not going to be eating constantly to consume so much protein I will see a better weight loss on my next visit. It is all a learning experience, but one that I am so glad to be working on.
  13. I was banded in 2008. Never felt full. Never reached a sweet spot. Random foods would get stuck. Sometimes the same food I'd eaten earlier without a problem. I never told anyone about my band either...and I'm glad because you can't tell I had WLS. I'm grateful that I never had a slip or erosion. However, the little weight I lost has all returned. Throwing up every day since 2008 got old...excusing yourself from the dinner table, etc. Even at 260 lbs people are thinking I have an eating disorder since I leave the table so often. 12/2012, I had all of the fluid removed from my band. I was hopeful for a revision, but the main goal was to get this band removed!! I am fortunate and have been approved for a revision on 4/25. I don't want to fail again. I'm going to give it all I got and not look back. I've decided to put the lap band behind me. I don't want to compare recovery, eating, digestion....anything. As of 4/25 (for me) the band never existed. I MUST do this. This band has been worse emotionally than any bad relationship I've encountered. Best to you all. I haven't even been revised yet and I know that it is a better decision.
  14. I had surgery 4 years ago and everything seemed to be going well. I got a revision 2 years later due to a slip of the band, and now the band doesn't work...and now I randomly pass out. I have gained about 80 percent of the weight back. When i try to get an appointment at the doctor, conveniently they aren't available. I have read every nutrition book and even tried to work with a trainer for 6 months and no help. I also get fills that only last 2 days and then back to the same result. I also had multiple xrays to prove the band hadn't slipped and no leakage due to the amount of cc's in the band. It makes me wonder just what happened in my surgery that is now making me pass out. I just want to be well... the exact reason i had a weight loss surgery in the first place.
  15. I think maybe it's comparatively rare everywhere but where your first doctor is! It sounds like you're in kind of a "bubble" of people who have had this type of revision.... I know you said you don't need a support group but "looking for others' experiences" is pretty much what a support group would be about... And it sounds like there's plenty of individuals in your area!
  16. She's pretty much self-weaned now, so I'm not as worried about it as I was about six months ago. That's why I completely unfilled again. I've never been able to tolerate any fill in my Band following my pregnancies, and have been waiting on a revision. Thing is... everytime a revision is planned, I end up getting pregnant. We're thinking about having one more, and I really don't want to go through a pregnancy with any other WLS. As much as my Lap-Band has driven my crazy in the past 7 years (or so), I've been grateful for it when I was preggers. So...I'm hoping that I can do this for a few months and lose a bit of the baby weight before becomign preggers again. I'm also wondering if doing this for a month or two might ease the transition to solids a bit and make it easier. No idea. slimmy.... I did that during my liquids phase...because I hated the protein drinks!

    Do you still enjoy food?

I originally wanted to go with the band, but my surgeon said he'd seen too many complications and revisions, to recommend it. Did you experience problems or just poor results?

    Gastric Bypass Surgery Monday! Nervous

My surgery is Monday too.. I'm a revision from sleeve to bypass due to some complications I had from my vsg I in July. I'm scheduled for 7:30 Monday morning. Good luck to you! I hear the recoveries are similar so I can tell you that the first couple of days are kind of hard because you can't drink, and you're in pain from the gas pain in your chest so just take a hot pad and make sure you relax and use your pain medicine Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Starting at the start!

Hey there, and welcome to VST. I'm a band to sleeve revision as well, and I can honestly tell you that I think you'll love the sleeve. I never saw myself skinny either. But, here I am at 130lbs, and really loving it. Yeah, I got the excess skin, and flabbiness, but I wouldn't trade them in for the fat rolls and misery that came with my obesity. Cheers to you on having your date, and keep us posted on your progress.

I too have BCBSIL. I got my lap band in 2010 but am looking into revision surgery. I go back on 6/13/14 to see if my stretched pouch has shrunk. I went through graduate school and basically let myself go. For any banders looking into gastric sleeve, what lead you to your decision?
  22. Nothing is risk free. "Most" people dont end up having their bands out within the first few years at all, though there's not a lot of idea whether anyone will last 20, 30 years with one band. I was told to be aware that although the band is designed to last a lifetime, the likelihood of mechanical failure at some point should be considered. I dont see one as better than the other. I got a band, and I may have to have revision surgery (and is likely to be something I could recover from, and even get rebanded), had I had a sleeve half my stomach would be gone. The *likelihood* of something going wrong may be much less with a sleeve but it could be pretty bloody awful if it did. Imagine splitting a suture line early on or leakage or something like that. both surgeries have some risks that have to be weighed up against the improvement to your health that they offer. If I lived in the US and had to deal with your medical system, the sleeve would have one major thing in its favour - the reduced need for follow up care. Bands can be tricky, here in Australia its no big deal. Fills cost nothing, doctors are nearby, in every suburb, every city. You can be operated on by one doctor, move interestate and simply get referred onto another without a doctor arguing about taking patients that he didnt operate on, or charging you feels to enter his program, we dont rely on our insurance companies to allow us to have fills or unfills, none of that stuff. So having a band is pretty easy in Australia. All those things are factors to consider, and the way they fall for you is what makes either surgery the right choice.
  23. For my band I had to have a letter of medical necessity, a psych eval, and a nutrition eval. I was just wondering if you had to go through all of this over again in order for you to have your revision.
  24. I can’t testify to the results but I personally chose from Band to RNY , I have Esophagitis, GERD and a port leak , I didn’t want to take a baby step and then have to do another revision ( if that was possible ) in the future .
  25. I'm having revision from sleeve to MGB on 4/23 !! Terrified but also excited !
