Kinda scared..problems with sleeve
A New KK replied to ZombieQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at almost 2 months also and had the same problem with nausea added in. Mine was dehydration. I really pounded the Water for a couple of days and the symptoms went away. I also struggle with getting in all the Protein and fluids but have found the Fluid to be more important. Also someone here posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder and it has been a godsend. It has 30 grams of protein in a small scoop. I mix that into refried Beans, chili or eggs and that way I get the protein grams in even if I can't eat 3 full meals. -
Please recommend an unflavored protein powder
Thinkingthinner1109 replied to Superfluous's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use both Unjury and Genepro. With Genepro you don't have to use as much and you can mix it in hot or cold. -

Protein Powder Suggestions
BigViffer replied to Shereseed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK, this is going to be a bit long winded, but you asked! I am literally going to copy/paste my past post because I don't feel like typing a book. I find the best way to prepare GENEPRO is to make sure the lid is on tightly and then chuck it in the trash. The makers of that stuff are about as shady as they come. They say their magical process reduces the size of Protein molecules! In their own words: They are saying their 10g of special protein is equivalent to 30g whey. I believe this says it best about Genepro: Long story short, they are selling lies. Most likely they are selling BCAA's and calling it protein. Do yourself a favor and buy a reputable protein brand. Gold Standard is good brand. There are so many manufacturers that lie on their labels, you almost have to look them up and see how many lawsuits they have against them before you buy! If their process was true, every other maker out there would be following suit because it is such a cutthroat business. The fact that most retail chains refuse to carry it is evidence of the company's reputation. The only reason I reply (yet again) to this type of post is to protect new patients from wasting money on snakeoil. I need to bookmark my reply to this ridiculous garbage product. It comes up so often it's a PITA to search for it. The manufacturers even admit that there is really only 10 grams of protein, but it is magically fast with absorption and is the equivalent to eating 30 grams of protein. It's a whey based product. It is most definitely not 30 grams of bio-available protein. The calories are just not there either. This stuff does not contribute to satiety, meaning you will still be hungry. At best it leaves protein markers in the blood stream, more likely though your body will start to break down your own muscle tissue for the protein that it needs. It does not provide the building blocks the body needs for muscle tissue, nails and hair. So you are most likely will have issues with that. Just stay away from this crap and ask your NUT if they are just espousing what a marketing rep told or did some actual leg work and investigated it. I'll wager they did not. Oh, and on the subject of unflavored powder. They are just that, unflavored. That does not mean they have no flavor, it merely means that they do not mask the natural flavor of the powder. I tried unflavored in the beginning, but it only worked for me with very strong soups like curries or tomato. -
Any Oregon Sleevers here?
LessOfMo replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my VSG done on April 2nd at Legacy Good Samaritan in Portland. Dr. Emma Patterson from Oregon Weight Loss Surgery (OWLS) was my surgeon, with her partner Dr. Avishai Meyer assisting. Surgery was a breeze, taking about 2hrs, and then I stayed one night. I've been doing great so far post-op, and was able to manage any pain with liquid Tylenol and ibuprofen, which you can get at Target or Walmart. Thankfully I haven't really had any trouble with nausea, and am currently 13lbs down from surgery day weight. Getting enough protein in is the hardest part, but GenePro unflavored protein powder has been my lifesaver on that one. There's 30g of protein per scoop, and 2 scoops easily mix into a 32oz Gatorade (I always get the lowest sugar option available), and adding a scoop to low-fat Greek yogurt is a great, protein filled way to start one's day. -
I think part of my issue is I can no longer tolerate Protein power or protein shakes at all. Makes me gag even at the smell, and yes I've tried many different brands including GENEPRO. I have a lot of sensory issues and this is suffering for it. I can't tolerate yogurt either due to my sensory problems. So I need to find a way to get in my calories and protein through food alone. Oh, did I mention I have a lot of food allergies too (including, but not limited to, legumes (for ex - peanuts, Beans, peas, etc), almonds, and all fish (yes all, not just seafood). *sigh* Yeah, it's difficult right now. So keep the menus coming, I need ideas. Have to get creative.

Protein Goal/Shopping List
ising4godinohio replied to DuckieXD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use unjury unflavored instead of GENEPRO. I think it dissolves better and it has significantly more Protein Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -
Fairlife milk is too high in carbs for me but I do have the Carb Master milk. I do have Genepro still as well but just opening the container makes me gag. I literally can't drink or eat anything in it. I tried having my husband make me things and not tell me what had it in it. Nope, as soon as I put it in my mouth I would start gagging if the protein powder was in it. I tried a couple other ones as well aside from Genepro. Same problem.

2 week pre-surgery diet
Tomo replied to oldandtired's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I understand, as long as there are no bits and pieces, both are fully accepted. On my clear liquid diet which is more strict (I hated it lol), bone broth was encouraged. My favorite protein is Genepro. I even use it in my coffee lol. -
Unflavored protein powder?
TEXASLADY52 replied to nessa259's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
GENEPRO http://www.musclegen.net/ .... this is oderless and tasteless and does not clump. You can add it to hot or cold....or just sprinkle over your food. This stuff is great. One tablespoon equals a scoop of whey and has 30 grams of Protein. It is approved by John Hopkins and has 96% absorbtion. You can also order it from Amazon. I fix Crystal Light Lemonade and add a scoop. i have added it to coffee, oatmeal, salad....etc. I am on my fourth bag......love it! I cannot stand all the other protein shakes because of the chaulky taste. I understand you can contact the website and they will send you a sample? -
Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
ShelterDog64 replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
@@trekker954 A few thoughts: Dairy Protein is easier for me than animal protein. I know you said you don't care for it, but I can't imagine doing this without using greek yogurt. Have you tried several brands and flavors? I'm not a big cottage cheese fan but you can't beat it for protein, so I eat it. I also use GENEPRO in my morning coffee, plus if I have Soup or refried Beans, I add a scoop to that. If I have a cup of tea later in the day, I add a scoop. There's no way you should push beyond your restriction to get protein in. That would be antithetical to the surgery we all just had. Your nutritionist must have some rationale for requiring 3 meals a day, I'd ask for the reason for it. If you've never been a snacker/grazer, maybe she'd feel comfortable supporting a 4th or 5th meal a day, or maybe like @@Bufflehead's NUT, you could add Protein shakes without them counting as a 'meal'. That wouldn't be the case with my program, if you eat it you count it, but clearly there are variations and semantics to deal with in comparing us all. -
Hey Prbaby28 -Welcome and Congrats. My husband is a fire fighter/EMT. It's amazing to me how everyone's journey is so different. I have to say I don't have any issues with food. My sleeve isn't bothered and mine just get's a little queasy if I eat to much sweets and then I eat some Protein and I am fine. I have only thrown up once. But I will say be careful when you go back to work and makes sure you drink your liquids. On my first day back I felt wonderful and thought I was Wonder Woman....I ended up in the ER that night dehydrated. I was just so busy getting everything done I didn't pay attention. I eat every 3 hours. Here's an example of what I eat. I used yesterday as an example I do eat oatmeal almost everyday. I didn't in the begging but found I got backed up and my nutritionist is fine with it as I still continued to lose. I also don' log or measure my food. I know a lot of people do and are successful so that's up to you. Again my nutritionist was ok with out me doing it. I get up at 5 am and have coffee with protein in it. I use GENEPRO . I think I started on coffee at 8 weeks. Workout 7 am Protein shake w/blueberries and strawberries (Either vanilla Premier Protein or Shakeology ) 9:30 oatmeal add Genepro usually only a half scoop 12:30 Salmon and coleslaw 3:30 1/2 apple with almond butter 6:30 pulled pork with cucumber slices Good luck- LA

Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
trekker954 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Just when you think you've got this whole thing down; I'm stumped. I'm just 13 1/2 weeks post op and so far, this has been going well and I am losing well. Even went on a 4 day cruise on lost a pound. My instructions all along, or maybe I listened in the beginning was to stop when I felt full. I was very cautious of this as I never wanted to not have I ever gotten sick. I do use genepro in my morning coffee. But I try and make sure the remaining protein is from food. I've only recently been told I can add vegetables, but very sparingly. Mostly protein. As I progress to more dense protein, it often fills me quickly. I just noticed today, if I'm not even getting in 3 ounces before I feel full, I won't meet my protein goal. I can't just keep eating chicken and eggs. I'm not a fan of cottage cheese or yogurt. I'm also trying different cuts of beef, lamb and such. My NUT really said to eat only three meals a day. What is more important, stopping when full, or should I push through to eat that last ounce of protein. Or should I have four meals a day, or at least four times, I go for protein. -

I use genepro so I don't have protein liquid to include. I'm dragging but keep praying it gets better. Friday I'm going to Virginia and I'm petrified that I'll become dehydrated, 7 hours from home! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -

Genepro was the only one I can kinda stomach. I have to do it in half scoops though because anymore than that I can taste. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -
I just heard about genepro for the first time the other day at a support group at my hospital. They also mentioned inspire protein powder and syntrax nectar. I need to look them all up because I desperately need to up my protein. I also heard about fairlife milk, that has a lot of protein in it. I picked up some of the fat free and it wasn't too bad. I like your idea about the unflavored protein, too.

My go to Protein shake is 10z fairlife milk (half reg/half chocolate), 1 scoop GENEPRO, and 1 scoop PB2. You can swap the pb2 for instant decaf for a mocha feel. I like thinks cold, so i just picked up a personal blender to make "frapachinos" at work. HW 385 SW 359 CW 335 (50lbs down!) Sleeved 10/5/16

Protein Shake problem
SunsUp replied to Jerseygirl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't handle the thick shakes with a sinus issue as i started twk weeks liquid. Bought GenePro at GNC. 30 grams a tablespoon. No taste. No grit. No clumps. Looks murky when mixed but it works and is easy on the stomach. Maybe it'll help you too. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Ae2018- my surgery is in 5 days. No pre-op diet for me but I am watching my food intake. Clear liquids only the day before. I am fairly certain protein shakes will be too sweet for me post op and I have GenePro protein powder which I tried with chicken bullion, not a fan. I plan on making Jell-O shots this weekend with it. I tried chicken broth soup from Unjury and LOVED it so I ordered plenty. I’m trying to stay out of the public as much as possible due to it being cold and flu season and I am not trying to get sick and have surgery postponed so I have stocked up on crystal light and flavored waters as well.

My Hunger Has Returned!!
bossportsgal replied to jessjames's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was using genepro but my NUT said stay away. It's false advertising. And that it's impossible to get 32 G protein in I tbls. I went back to injury unflavored. Little flavor but not bad at all. -
Best Tasting Protein Shake
Clementine Sky replied to charley27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What blender do you use? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I love the NutriBullet because it blends so quickly and is convenient. I just pop on a lid and can head out the door. As for protein powders, I really like Unjury's chocolate flavored Protein Powder. I'd add coconut cream to it for an Almond Joy flavor, or PB2 for a Reese's-like treat. Chike's protein powder is also tasty. If there is a Sprout's near you they have unflavored whey protein that dissolves really well into both hot and cold drinks. You can buy it by the weight, so you don't have to commit to a giant tub of it when you just want to sample it. I also liked GENEPRO. Starting about two weeks out I began making smoothies using a yogurt that is high in protein and low in carbs, frozen berries (also lower in carbs) and frozen spinach (the berries mask the flavor, and the consistency is better if it's frozen) rather than using protein powder, and that's what I've stuck with this whole time. -
Best Tasting Protein Shake
kadie777 replied to charley27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorites are Chike coffee Protein, ON Gold Standard Mocha Cappucino, Syntrax nectar Fuzzy Navel and Kiwi Strawbery, and unjury chocolate. I also keep Premier shakes on hand for grab and go, as needed, and I like their chocolate shake. Also, I just got GENEPRO which is flavorless and can mix with any drink or food. -
Got my Genepro in and have mixed it with orange juice and chicken broth so far. It mixes great and can't taste it. I think I'm in love

Liquid diet suggestions
wannaBthinsoon replied to amacox's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PB2 is also yummy to add to the vanilla (or chocolate) shakes. Syntrax Matrix flavors I have tried, and LOVED are fuzzy navel and strawberry cream. Also I use the GENEPRO unflavored, and I can add to anything and it really is unflavored. You won't go wrong with the Syntrax Matrix, though. REALLY.
