Lucky #7 are still going strong !!!
phyllser replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, at least I got the grilled chicken! But I did eat all the skin, too! Oh, my it tasted good! Yeah, I'd probably be cruising the thrift shops for Andrew's apartment! Jacki taught me that! You wouldn't believe the treasures she finds! We have a slew of wine glasses that she got us a thrift stores! There are a couple... I think over on Country Club, that I spotted one day... one is Angel View... they are all over the valley, and there is another one right next door to it. I've been wanting to go look around. Every time we stay in Gilroy, Earl loses me for hours while I go to Salvation Army!!! LOL Now I remember.... COPD! I forgot.. but you did tell me that before. But I didn't realize she was that seriously ill! How old is she??? Yes, I am simply amazed at how ell Earl is doing! No pain pills today at all! So I let him have a glass of wine. He says he still feels a little groggy, but it takes a long time to get al that anesthesia out of your system. He says he has no pain. He hates doing the irrigations, but he is doing the faithfully. Then he complains because he has water running back out again for a while!! TMI!! My youngest sister just had her hair color changed from blond to red! You've been talking about doing that for a while, haven't you? And here's a picture of Mom & Uncle Ed just before they were called in to a conference room so Ed could be counseled about breaking the rules!!! -
August Rush in bandland!
StillNoRegrets83 replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone. I see a lot has gone on since I was last here. However, it sounds like you guys are doing much better! So I am still very slowly losing, however I will say when I was on my menstrual cycle I definitely gained and was very scared. It made me feel like I was going to be the type of person that the band was just not going to work. I am still very iffy about all of this. I am down around 50 lbs, but, my cloths are not fitting any better. How is this? The only real difference is that my double chin is a baby double chin now lol, and I am very giggly. Before I was big but solid, now my fat is well squishy. Maybe this is tmi but it's just all weird. I go for a second fill Friday. I am excited about that because I really stink at the portion sizes. I still eat a lot less but still eat more than I should. Okay enough of me rambling. Do any of you live in FL? -
I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
AbacoRaveness replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are all different, but I had very little pain after my surgery. About three hours after I got to my room I woke up in pain... it was an overall ache type pain. My nurse said it was probably from the gas, so I got up and as soon as the gas shifted a bit I felt much better. The day after surgery I walked a mile so it couldn't have been that bad. By about day 7 I really felt some pain in my left side from the liver retraction, but it was more annoying than anything because it was the only thing still bothering. THEN, disaster struck, apparently when they intubated me, anesthesia cracked one of teeth. It got infected and festered for a week before hitting the nerve in my jaw. THAT pain was horrible! It was WAY worse than the surgery and I really broke into those pain meds! I waited four days for a root canal and they were the worst four days of my life.... luckily I was stoned out of my mind on percoset and don't really remember them Now I'm 17 days out and I still have some pain in my left side when I do silly things like bend over repeatedly to throw a ball for my dog, but now the worst part is the scabs from my incisions getting caught on my clothing (sorry if thats TMI), but those little suckers hurt when they get caught. But, seriously, if thats my biggest complaint... I'll take it! -
Post op experiences and support

Today was a good day. My father in law stayed again to take care of our baby, and my husband is getting better from the novo virus which is going around. Red alert, ladies, this novo virus is vomit and diarrhea and is VERY prevalent - would be torture to us newly banded people!! Needless to say, husband sleeps on the couch and we disinfect the bathroom for each other before and after each use. So far so good...neither me or the 3 month old need to share this experience with daddy, lol. I am moving around very well. I'm not risking lifting the baby out of her crib, but picking her up from the changing table or her rocker is easy, and not painful at all. Father in law left this afternoon and DH and I are working in shifts, so he will watch DD while I nap, and then I'll watch her while he naps. It's working out well. I miss my bathtub but will tough it out. Already I am having hunger, but once I start drinking I'm pretty discouraged from solid food. I'm looking forward to the pureed diet (remember, I totally suck with liquids) and am focused on staying on liquids as long as I can. For dinner tonight I mixed 2 TBSP Peanut Butter and 1/2 banana with my chocolate Protein Shake. I not only need the calories but I needed the weight of food. I think I got in like 800 calories today, way better than the last 2 days. Gas X continues to be my hero, and I'm hoping tomorrow I'll start having bowel movements again. (Sorry for TMI, but this stuff becomes necessary lol) How's everyone else doing? Susan, BTW, I'm in the same boat with the scale. I peeked, it hasn't moved. In fact I'm 1 lb up. I'm focusing on protein...pretty sure things will loosen up and weight will drop in the next few days. -
Talk Me Down Off The Ledge
castiel replied to cmaloney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could possibly be water retention. Have you had anything with a lot of sodium? Broths, canned veggies, etc.? Also do you weigh in the morning after going to the bathroom? a little tmi... but that's the best time to weigh after bowels/bladder has been emptied. If you do it at night, you could still have stuff inside you which makes the scale go up! 1.5 pounds is not something too major especially if you're exercising. If the scale keeps going up and up, then you should talk to a doctor/dietician -

Well I'm now 3 weeks out today. Feeling a little discouraged. Since I started on mushy food last week I have gained 5 lbs back. Somebody from the Woodbridge office just called to confirm my appointment this week, and told me not to worry about it. Said it was probably water retention. How do you not worry when it's right there on the scale and not going anywhere. Yesterday was the most I have eaten at 800 calories. I also haven't gone to the bathroom in a week. TMI. Maybe that has some to do with it too. -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
jessicakolman replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had my surgery today at 7:15AM. I was out by 9:00 and in main PACU for a couple hours. We went home around 1PM. So here it is, I got there and they had me change in my nifty gown and compression socks. It really sucked that I have my period today. They didn't let me wear a tampon or pad! UGH... I know it may TMI but that made me mad. Anywho, after the nurse started my IV in my hand instead of my forearm --- which HURT!!!, they took me soon to the OR. I go there and I'm actually very familiar with their OR's cause I work in Labor and Delivery at that hospital and a lot of the time I have to take patients back to the OR for c/s's. My room was right next to the rooms they do those c/s in. Anywho, we got in the room and everyone was really nice and introduced themself. They made me comfortable and put my arms in those arm holder things. They kept putting the mask on me and I kept talking asking questions, next thing I knew I woke up a tremndous amount of pain in PACU -- it was hard for me to wake up since they had to give me benedryl with the anestheisa cause they used a "bear hugger" which is a device to keep you warm and it gave me a rash on my chest. Dont' knnow why... LOL Anyway soon they wheeled me down to the step down area and I stayed there for a lil' bit. I was insistant I get up and walk around cause it felt worse to lay down. I went pee about 3 times. Since then I can't go #2 probably cause of the pain meds:frown: So they discharged me and the tech brought me out to the car and then my husband just parked the car and went back in and got the perscription filled. We did this because they wouldn't allow me to just go wherever, they had to make sure I was gone OK but I didn't follow the rulses LOL . Anyway we dropped of my perscription for the Loratab liquid and then we walked down the hall to where I work just to walk of this gas and I saw all my coworkers and they were very happy that things went well. We walked back to the car after picking up the persciption and we headed home. So far I've been walking around the house just a lil' bit and resting as well. I feel pretty good otherwise. So here's a video of my whole ordeal of my surgery -- -

Cramping after eating?
sleevedshereen replied to sleevedshereen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@kajameetsworld22 My belly was swollen for a good 2.5 weeks...you're actually lucky that it is a diuretic... May be tmi but I struggle in that department...if my life depended on it i'd probably die lol. I need to buy some benefiber or something, -
I have a question. I was told when I had my UGI that I had a very small dilation. I asked if it was because I ate too much or did anything else I shouldn't of. I was told no. I asked if they were going to remove fluid and was told no, everything was going down fine and that it was very slight. I wasn't even told to go on liquids...just that I was progressing nicely and my weight loss is good and that in fact the fluid was moving through so well that I probably could actual use a slight fill (but they wouldn't do it because of the heartburn and reflux). To this day, I still struggle with heartburn and occasional nightly reflux and lots of burping (most of this is the week before my period...sorry if TMI, but I get alot tighter then). Do you all think I should press this issue?? Is the dilation getting better/worse/the same? Am I hurting myself? I don't want to have any fluid taken out, but I don't want to hurt myself and potentually lose my band! have you ever heard of doing nothing for a slight dilation? Just any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Five day follow up
Cl@ireyBearry replied to LisaCh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your worries and fears are all normal, I have has extreme dumping in my first month, and every once in a while now, (3 months post op) I remember the day I had an actual mostly solid BM! About 3-4 weeks post op? My family and I actually celebrated even though people talk about poop like it’s TMI! I tried to keep taking sips of water every 10 mins, and all I could stomach was chicken broth for the first 10 days. Jello and popsicles (sugar free) helped a lot. Also, about 2 weeks after my surgery I began to have a fever every day from about 2 pm to 8pm sometimes longer. I had one infected site (robotics) and when I did get the antibiotics, they stopped all digestion. But I made it through. You may have some worries and fears, but that’s normal. And as long as you just do your best to follow the diet guidelines, you WILL lose weight! Cheers! -
I agree with so many of the things you listed... Painting toes without hassle. Not always being the fattest/biggest one in photos and trying to hide behind people (hard to do since I'm only 5'1")! And not being the fat sister. Having a slim face and body - not needing filters or photo editing to make me look better before letting people see photos of me. Not needing to buy XXL shirts/dresses or plus size bottoms, or having fat feet. Can't wait to wear cute clothes and shoes again!! Might be TMI, but not feeling like I'm going to pull a back muscle or break my arm trying to take care of business in the bathroom. Strange thing to realize over time that this would be difficult, but I guess it makes sense that the backside gets bigger just as the rest of me has. Not being in chronic pain or feeling exhausted just walking or trying to do anything physical. Keeping up with my active kids and not just watching from the sidelines. Not wanting to eat so often or so much. Thanks for starting this thread! Love the encouragement and support for each other on our journeys. Let's keep it going! I'm hoping to get approved in April and sleeved in late May. And, to respond to another post, I'm in Colorado.

What ya eating tonight?
pookybear replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had corned beef and cabbage tonight. Figured it would be fine since it was fine on St. Patty's Day. Let me tell you, cabbage coming back at you is the WORST. (Sorry for the TMI) -
I'm Day 4 from surgery and the gas has been the biggest thing for me. In the beginning it was just growling around in my system all the time. That has gotten better, and I have passed substantial gas, but I don't dare pass gas unless I'm on the commode. I have diarrhea and have had it since Day 4 of the Pre-op diet! I guess I expected as much since I'm only taking in fluids, fluids is what's going to come back out. But, I'm really tired of trying to run to the bathroom whenever the gas feels like it just needs to explode out, because it won't be just gas. I know it's TMI, but I don't know how else to describe it. I took an Immodium today hoping to calm that part down. I have not used any pain meds today other than Tylenol (liquid), and I do have discomfort in my midsection, but if I don't do too much it's tolerable. I want to go outside for a walk, but I'm afraid to go too far from the bathroom! I feel kind of bad today and that is depressing me. Trying to keep my spirits high.

Did anybody have their period at the time of surgery?

Evening friends! So my bowel prep was less eventful than I imagined it would be. When I did it back in 2008, seems like I went a lot more. The only thing I can think of is that since I was already using that Mag. 07 product, which kept me very regular and very soft (TMI) bm's. THis morning I had to go to the hospital and get labs done again. Then my honey and I went to Sam's Club to stock up on some stuff. Unfortunately we went right when they were giving away lots of food samples! OIY!! That was hard! Then I told my honey he should get something for lunch, so we went to Jimmy John's. I brought my thermos of broth in and he ate a big sub! Yep, that was hard too. But guess life will be full of tests, so a good challenge for me. I had to take 2 different antibiotics at 2:00, 3:00 and then one more dose tonight at 10PM. The one says "Take with food." Nice...oh my goodness, made me SO sick to my stomach. Finally tried some broth at 5:30, that helped a little bit. Also got things "moving" some more. TMI WARNING----for those that did the bowel prep, did the color change to crazy color? Mine before I ate broth today, was a dark green almost black color. So gross!!!

Just wondering how long it was for everyone post-op to have their first bowel movement. I'm only two days out and was told if I don't go by Monday I should call the dr. What's everyone's thoughts?

I have no problem at all with the water. In fact I am taking in 4-16.9oz bottles of water through out the day. It's the protein shakes I am having problems with. I think I finally found one I like "taste sooo yummy, almost like chocolate milk" so I am fixing to buy a case and really start pushing myself to get it in. 1 can has 35ozs so you add that to the meats I consume I will be getting in a pretty good amount of protein after this. You really have to push yourself with the amount of water you consume. I thought I was getting a uti or worse kidney stones because my urine turned brown "tmi sorry" I talked to the doctor and the meds he has me on can cause the brown urine. I was just fine, it still scared me into drinking more and more water. LoL

My doctor stated I would be going home without drains. Of course, assuming there are no complications. He doesn't use catheters routinely either. Surgery is only an hour and you will be awake and up going to the bathroom a couple hours later. Sooner then a night's sleep. But I sure don't go to bed with an IV with fluids. I hope my bladder can hold! Lol. Mine is not on the largest size either. I think with every kid it shrunk. Since I have been attempting to get my 68oz of Water (have not made it except 3 times in a month) I feel it may be the size an almond. My, oh my, I sure visit the little girls room a lot (TMI). I also wonder if my doctor thinks I'm super woman. I very much doubt I will be walking around two hours after major surgery. But some doctors do drains and catheters as part of their procedure from what I have read in this board. I guess it varies.

Frequently Asked Questions
NowHisMrs0711 replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all!! My surgery date was the 9th. I can completely relate to the gas. At this point for me it hasn't gone away, but I do find that I experience it most after a "meal" or drink. I have also noted that it is cruvial to SLOW DOWN when eating. If you don't you will feel like you have a knot in ur chest, that only burping and puking can cure. This part totally sucks, and it makes it hard to breathe hard to sit up, etc. I recommend buying a baby spoon to eat all ur meals. And what has worked for me is eating alone while doing something else that is distracting me. For exampke, my meals at work, while emailing etc, are splendid, but at home, while eating with my husband, have been horrible. I experienced esophageal spasms after surgery, especially when I returned home. It literally feels like an explosion in my stomach as the drink is pushed down. It's a horrible sharp pain that I felt deep into my mid back. If u look it up Web MD compares it to heart attack pain. At one point I did think I was totally going to die or sprang a leak. I went to the ER and all came out clear. After seeing my surgeon for my first post op he said it's basically like a Charlie horse in the musculature or ur esophagus and that it would go away with time. I must say it totally has since yesterday. I began feeling like myself again by day 5-6 post op. I will say that I felt totally weak, but tried at all costs to stay hydrated. I just got my Vitamins today so I will be starting on that first thing tomorrow. I had chronic heartburn pre op that i self medicated. Post op i have had none whats so ever. My stool was loose and this has continued. You will feel like ur regaining control of your bowels by day 456 or so. This might be TMI but as my bothers and sisters in the sleeve, it makes it all less scary when you know someone has been there. 17 lbs down so far. Hang in there guys!! You can do this!! -
TMI Question...that may not make sense!
LeslesLosingIt posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I have a serious question but I want y'all opinion before I call my surgeon and he laughs at me! I am getting kind of sick, running nose, etc. The issue is I have a lot of drainage down the back of my throat, and it's going to my stomach I assume (? not a doctor here). Anyway, could this be causing my nausea? I haven't had any at all before now, and this morning I ate what I always do and got extremely nauseas, tonight I had one bite of something I eat all the time (just turkey lunch meat wrapped around a cheese stick) and the same thing happened. No fever or anything. Could this be causing it?? I don't wanna call him and look like an idiot if I don't have to! -
Hey everyone I was banded July 29th and (knock on wood) things are going just great! My surgery was a breeze and I have experienced very little pain. The gas has been minimal, and I am peeing all the time! My question is... when will I have a BM? My Dr did not give me a stool softener but his nurse did ask me if he had. Why on earth would I need a stool softener when all I am consuming is liquid? My DH said why would you go if you haven't eaten anything but we all know & have probably been there. You still go.... it's just liquid! (TMI right! ) So... when did you all have your first BM post op? It's not out of fear or pain that I don't go either (like after you have a baby!) It's just not there! I'm not uncomfortable, just used to being VERY regular and I haven't had a BM since before the surgery. Other than that I could not be happier. Ok, maybe a little happier if I could have something besides broth and Jello but I'll live until I get to the mushies! Thanks in advance for all your insight!

**TMI Disclaimer** My VSG surgery is 4 weeks away. According to my calendar and what my body is going through now, my expected menstrual cycle should happen on or before the day of surgery---and I JUST realized this today. It's been messing with my head all day because I want to have this surgery done so bad but I feel like I need to reschedule... my flow is pretty heavy and I just think it would be so messy to deal with on top of having surgery. I shed a tear or two talking to my husband about it because it's embarrassing to even think about...my surgeon is a male and I would hate for him or anyone to know that I'm having my period. My husband told me I was silly for thinking such a thing and told me to go through with having the surgery. He really hurt my feelings. I don't know, maybe I am thinking too much or a little emotional right now about it. I am so embarrassed and don't know what to do ....help...
