    Call the Bariatrics police!

Okay, does anyone have any information stating that alcohol is dangerous too soon after surgery ? All I can find is "it can impact you differently" in other words you feel it a lot faster and of coarse empty calories and the risk of transfer addiction, but all that aside, I'm looking for actual research showing it is a risk to staple line ect. My surgeon had no stipulations on alcohol following the sleeve and in fact said "it's a liquid" you'll be fine, I had 2 margaritas about a month out. However, I recently had a revision so I'm looking for information in order to make an informed decision this time about if I would want to have a drink next weekend while out of town for the Holiday.
  2. I am 7 months out. I didn't have revision surgery...just the sleeve. I can eat anything. If I eat more than a cupcake I feel queasy. I don't dump but definitely don't feel good so I don't push it. I also find that steak doesn't feel so good in my stomach either. Like a big lump. So I usually just have skirt steak and that does fine. ~LA
  3. Hello all, I had my surgery on November 3rd 2010. I had my third fill last wednesday 2 March 2011, they had a hard time getting to my port on that day, but managed to get it done. Then Monday I noticed as long as I ate Cream of Wheat or Yogurt I was fine, but if I tried to eat anything like Chicken, Salmon, anything that wasn't SOFT, I would get stuck. So, went in yesterday (3/10/11) to have .6 cc removed and she couldn't get to the port. Called the Doctor, he couldn't get to the port. Off to X-ray we go, and after about 30 min of pushing on my port, Doctor decided that it is fliped on it's side and so I have to go in for a Port Revision to fix it. I would have had this done today, but I had no one to take me to the Hospital as I have to be put under. (Hubby is at Disney World with our son.) My question, has anyone had this done, and how long did you hurt? I am not looking forward to this, since that is the spot that hurt for a few weeks, and on the 22nd my husband is having surgery on his Knee and I will need to be able to help him.
  4. Hey! Are you having bypass in February? We are starting a closed/secret group on Facebook and would LOVE to have you join us. 2 years ago I had a sleeve done, but due to complications they are revising me from sleeve to bypass. I had an AMAZING group on Facebook that all had the same surgery that month. We were going through the same things whether it was venting one day, sharing milestones, and made lasting friendships! Since it's a secret group there is some hoops to go through to get added (sorry, Facebook makes it harder) The good thing is that it's completely secret meaning none of your friends can know see posts or ever know you're in it This makes it a safe place for us because I know for some it's not something they want to share. Here's how to join: 1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/lanaepetersen and send me a friend request 2. I will accept the friend request, then send you an invite to the group. 3. Starting over with the band..

HI Secret, I was banded in Feb, 2008 and I am now a revision to RNY as of 10/5/2016. It took me 2.5 years to lose 80 pounds with the band, and now, at 9 months out from RNY, I am down to 142 (69 pounds down and almost to goal). I will say good luck to you, you will need it - and using your word - BUUUUUTTT - my surgeon says that it is not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" that it comes out. It is a foreign object and might cause problems for you in the future. My mother had her's out 3 years after getting banded. She ended up with an erosion. And as of 2 weeks ago also had a revision to RNY. It would be cool if it does work for you long term. I can eat better now. SALADS, chicken, beef. Happy days! Good luck to you :-)

    Any February Surgery Dates...

HI, Im scheduled Feb 1st for a revision from a sleeve I had just shy of a year ago! I am so excited!

    Starting over with the band..

After thinking about this, I feel I need to say that I understand that not every one can have a revision, or even WANT a revision. I met a woman at my work today and she still has her band (she was banded a couple of months before I was) and right now she is unhappy with it but her BMI is not high enough, and she's not sure if it will be covered. I myself was denied for a revision in 2014 with a BMI of 37 because I technically had no issues with the band at that time. What helped was that my barium swallow showed in 2015 that the band had moved, and even though it wasn't officially a slip it was enough for the dr to convince the insurance company. So Secret, I DO hope you make it work!!

    Any February Surgery Dates...

I am also having a revision from sleeve to RNY. my diet and stay in hospital for both surgery's is the same 2 day pre op diet and 2 day hospital
  10. @@sheetmetalgirl, I agree with @@Dairymary, maybe go back to the basics first and check to see if you have PCOS or insulin resistance. Also, check your insurance company to see if you ate a candidate for a revision. I don't know much about revisions...

    I'm sleeved!

Hi. I will be going to Mexico on Oct 19th, with Dr. Aceves. Surgery will be on the 20th. I was banded in 2006. I will be having a revision surgery from band to sleeve. I will be getting a complete unfill this morning and going on liquids for 3 weeks preop. That's a little scary . My weight is 125 (up from lowest of 115). I hope to lose the 10 lbs and then maintain. I hope the sleeve will help with that.

    Stretched/dilated pouch

I have the same problem. Dialated this time last year and again a month ago. I can't afford a revision. Is this it for my pouch?
  13. Rensterness, how are you feeling? How did your revision go on Tuesday? Sending you gentle hugs and wishing a quickly and smooth recovery
  14. It must have been a shock to get that diagnosis--but as others have said, I'm glad you got the information now rather than suffering really serious complications later down the road. Thank goodness there IS such a thing as a revision, imagine if there was nothing anyone could do to help your twisting tummy?? You have an awesome outlook, and it sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and a solid, supportive medical team. You're going to do just fine; hang in there, and keep us posted on your progress.
  15. Hi, I’m interested in getting a revision. How long is the wait for approval? Will it be the same process (6 months)? I have emblem health/ghi. I’m in NYC.
  16. I want to know anyone that was able to have the sleeve surgery at the same time as band was removed. Also anyone that has United Healthcare and how hard and what all did you have to do to get approved. Thanks for any assistance.

    How old were you when?

I am a Bariatric trilogy: Band at 29 years, did not loose much and regained. Sleeve at 37year, lost 70 and over 3 years regained it all. 3 weeks ago at 40 I revised to RNY. Very hopeful this will be forever.

    Revisions? Anyone?

I'm looking to get a revision to the VSG. My ins covers VSG but the lady at the Dr's office said that I would have to qualify as if I am having WLS for the 1st time. I no longer have any co-morbids and my bmi is 36 I'm wondering if it will be approved. Has anyone been approved with a similar situation?
  19. Absolutely! The first ones were actually done in 2006-2007. A very good band doctor in Ohio did his first one in 2007. Here is a link to show you an x-ray of what a band over bypass looks like, it's pretty cool: Trace W. Curry, M.D. - View topic - Band-over-bypass Xray My surgeon has placed over 3000 lap bands, and recently, many gastric bypass patients have been seeking this revision. Feel free to ask anymore questions. As you can tell, I'm a research-a-holic

You should be just fine. I've been fighting the OPM for many months over a revision. In what they've written to me it's pretty much a done deal with a BMI 40+. They've even indicated if I gain to 40 they'll change their minds bout my revision (grrr). I don't think you'll have any problems at all. Britt
  21. I had the sleeve done five years ago. I got pregnant eight months after. I lost 88 pounds from the sleeve and gain to 60 back. November 14, 2017 I had the single anastomoses duodenal switch. I lost 14 pounds the first two weeks and have not lost but have gained 1 pound in the last two weeks. For those of you out there that I’ve had this done has it been successful for you? Is the weight-loss slow and steady? Can you share some of your experiences

    Florida Sleevers!

Hi fellow Floridians ! I'm from SW Florida. I got a band to sleeve revision on 5/4/12. Did great on pre-op diet and first two weeks after surgery I lost like crazy, but unfortunately have been stalled for two weeks! I'm trying to be patient and let my body do it's thing, but dang it's hard. I've followed my doctor's diet guidelines and increased my excercise so not sure what else to try. I'm off mushies now and started fish and chicken yesterday so I'm hoping that will make a difference. Nice to be on this journey with all of you
  23. If your surgeon says he has complication rates anywhere near 20% RUN to a different surgeon.... Im a band to sleeve revision myself and my surgeon preferred to weight about a month between procedures so tissue could heal and would be healther when cutting/ stapling the sleeve
  24. Yes on the perfect storm! Ugh! Like I said in a reply above my relationship with food is better than before surgery, but somewhere along the track I grew apathetic (probably because of depression!) and I've hit a brick wall since, so I will absolutely be working on that from here on out. Revision would be something I really seek out hard sometime next year if dietary and activity adjustments just don't work. I don't exercise as much as I want to but I'm hoping with next semester I'll have a more structured schedule and I WILL be putting ~3 hours of treadmill every week minimum. Even if it's just walking, it's something! Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful responses! I will definitely be working on the "things I can change" stuff first and foremost and only really go for revision in due time if my weight doesn't see tremendous benefit down the line.
  25. Hi there I was banded in August 2008 and lost 120lbs before getting pregnant in 2010. Since having my son in 2011 I have had any issues with acid reflux and not being able to get food down. I have had my bad filled/unfilled so many times and when it is empty no reflux issue but still food issues. Well finally a few weeks ago the surgeon has agreed to do the revision to sleeve if I want. The only thing that has be worried is he said my risk goes from less then 1% (never having WLS) to a 20% chance if leaking with a revision. Soy question for those that have gone through this have you had any issues with leakage? If so would you still do the surgery if you had to all over again? Thanks for taking the time to read and reply and best if luck to all of you.
