Please take part in this new research and learn about your own personality

I took your survey, hope it helps. My answers may seem strange because I had lap band 10 years ago, and am having it revised to gastric bypass this November. -
Hi everyone! Today marks one year since I got my lap band revised to gastric bypass. I've lost a total of 87 lbs so far. 275 to 188. I am 5'5" so I still have about 30-35 lbs I'd like to lose. I was very discouraged a few months ago, but I left my pity party behind and made sure I was sticking to eating well. This is not always easy! I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon in late August. I have some sagging skin on my stomach, inner thighs, and arms but nothing too horrible. Also of note, I have PCOS, which always made it harder to lose. The surgery has definitely helped with this and it seems to get easier to lose weight the more weight I lose. It seems counter-intuitive but I think the insulin resistance that often comes with PCOS has abated. I'll attach a before and after pic. Picture 1-I'm on the right holding my new nephew last June. Picture 2-selfie! Picture 3-me in the middle. I posted this on purpose so you can see that I will definitely need a tummy tuck.

Majority of Band to Sleeve Revisions done in two surgeries?!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to SwampBillies's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Here... they are not allowed to do it in one procedure.... there is a minimum wait of 3 months from band removal before you can have a revision. Basically they say it is to allow your stomach to heal and for the area around your band to go back to its original shape. -
So sorry to read your story! I hope that you can make a decision that is amazing and changes your life for the better. I just had a revision (8 days ago) and I am very happy so far. It has been hard, yes, and I am still on fluids, but I am so happy already. My clothes are looser, I am on a really exciting new path, and I have no pain at all. I hope you can get to a decision and read lots on these boards to help you get some ideas xx

I am also a revision from band to sleeve!
-
I feel your frustration. I had revision surgery from band to sleeve on June 7th and I just feel like I should be losing faster. I lost 25lbs in the first couple of weeks but the last 3 weeks I've only lost 3lbs. It's a bit disappointing because when I had my band I lost weight a lot more consistently. I'm trying to exercise more and make some adjustments to see if I can kickstart the weight loss again. Damn slow metabolism.

Is something wrong with me?
limesqueeze23 replied to KariLovesColorado's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My best friend has this problem as well. She is 7 months post op and she can eat a like a 'normal' person already. She was starving and able to eat a lot more post op than what the nutritionist and surgeon told her to expect. The surgeon actually offered to revise her bypass and make her pouch smaller and she declined. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Which to do....
Valentina replied to Corey A Duplantis's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your BMI is about 74...in the practice where I was recently sleeved, you would be a candidate for a Duodenal Switch or a Roux-en-Y bypass, or for a sleeve gastrectomy as a first step, to help you lose some weight prior to a revision to a DS or RNY. This is definitely something that you can only decide in talking with your surgeon, because your co-morbidities will contribute to the decision in a major way. Good luck to you. Exactly! what she ^^^^ said. Spot on advice. -
13 months post and still not there yet....
Licia'sjourney replied to baoros's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@baoros - I feel your pain! I have lost 66lbs in 13months since surgery and lost 40 presurgery. All you CAN do is make sure you are on plan and if you are not change what you're eating. Change things up. Our bodies get used to what we do so change food and exercise up. Just keep plugging along. I have not exercised and I should start but I haven't done it yet, my bad. I don't like to complain too much because I have not exercised. Sometimes I wish I had gone with the gastric bypass. But I didn't and I don't really have the money to do a revision and I really wonder if that would help anyway. I am still losing but its very slow. I keep worrying about running out the honey moon period and still have weight to lose. Hang in there. I'm sure you'll get more replies. Think positive thoughts. You didn't mention your age so if you are older that might make a difference plus you have thyroid issues and I would think that would affect your weight loss too. You mentioned being tired. Are you taking Vitamins, are you eating enough? I had very deep exhaustion that lasted about 6 months. Its gotten a lot better but my energy is not what I would like it to be. Exercise, I'm sure would help that. Anyway...Maybe you could let us know more on your food and if you exercise... -
Pre surgery
hopefulvspgirl replied to michaela.schmidt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately, it's hard to say regarding the losing weight prior to surgery. It seems most doctors will have you diet for ~2 weeks prior to surgery (ranging from low carb to liquids only), but it doesn't seem as common to need to lose a certain amount. For myself, I've gained 5 lbs since my consult (completely my fault, I went a little crazy with food between the consult and now) and so I need to lose those pounds plus a few more before my surgeon would operate. So I've started my 2 week diet a few days early. When I've seen the term revision, it's generally referring to lapband to sleeve. I haven't heard of a revision of the sleeve itself. -
Slower weight loss second time around?
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to PaulStephens1975's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Y'know, folks, a slower rate of weight loss may be a letdown, but thinking about it is known in the trade as 'maladaptive cognition.' In real-life terms, it means thinking things that aren't good to think. Lost weight is lost weight. Would you even be losing at the slower rate without the revision to sleeve? I'm not one of you and don't know if I will be. Having lost 115 in 15 (?) months at the start, I then regained about 65-70, letting an event derail me, not because of band failure. I'm finally seeing the NP on Monday (last time was about two years ago), positive that I have dilation, but won't know until the esophagram about erosion. In short, I'm thinking revision is what I'll need. I have yet to find out if my medical plan will cover it. I'd go for sleeve and would have to get past my own biases against it. With luck, at least some of he biases are based on ignorance of the procedure. Anyway, I really stopped in primarily to say that lost weight is lost weight. -
Hello everyone, I've finally had all my appointments before the surgeon and just need a few follow up calls but then I should be moved onto the surgeon. I just have a few questions: 1. Do you normally have to lose a certain amount of weight before the surgery? I've seen people say they had to lose 25 lb before the surgeon would operate, does that normally happen? Or is that in extreme cases? 2. What's a revision? I've seen posts about people getting a revision a few months after having the surgery but what is that for? If you have any advice that would be greatly appreciated!! I'm from Ontario, Canada! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Slower weight loss second time around?
KeepCalm replied to PaulStephens1975's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a little confused - did you lose 100lbs and that wasn't a typo or did you lose 4 and it was a typo? I'm a revision too, and I weighed 255 on surgery - currently at 244 and I'm 4 weeks out... its been slow but its coming off. -
Why do people have the revision? I'm very new to this process and don't really know what the revision does. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Slower weight loss second time around?
PaulStephens1975 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So when I got my band I lost 100lbs in the first six months. By 9 months I had lost 127lbs and hit my goal weight. In total I went from 325lbs down to 198. Even though I had horrible heartburn and reflux I kept most of the weight off staying around 225lbs for about 6 years. I had my Fluid taken out to relieve the heartburn and acid reflux and immediately gained weight. I ended up at 299.8lbs the day after my revision surgery from band to sleeve. I lost weight pretty quick after my revision surgery and dropped back down to about 275. That was on June 7th. I'm about 5-6 weeks out and I've lost lost another few pounds. Today I was 171.8lbs. I can't figure out what's different this time. Is it because my metabolism is slower now? I read recently about how contestants on the biggest loser had slower metabolisms after they lost all of their weight. This makes me think that losing weight and then gaining back really slowed my metabolism down. I know when I got my band I eliminated about 95% of bread, rice, and Pasta from my diet and wonder if this could be what's hurting me. My recovery has been a little slower this time because I've had some drainage from my old port site so I haven't been quite as active as quickly as I was the first time with my band. So, anyone else have slower weight loss with their sleeve than with their band after revision? Any thoughts or ideas on what I should do or should I just be more patient? I would love to hear some insights. Thanks! -

Best advice on wearing a bra after surgery
OutsideMatchInside replied to LJDavenport's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let me revise what I said. I wore sports bras around the house and to work out and wired bras when I went shopping and to the doctor. That is the smallest incision with the least amount of pain, for me anyway. Padding it out totally works. -

I think I need a good kick in the a$$...
CHM replied to CHM's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes please! Damn thief. Just because you're pretty... If it took you over a year to get up to 1000 calories, then I wonder if 900-1100 is perhaps just too high to be regularly attainable at less than 6 months out. That happened because every time I hit a stall, after 3 weeks or so I added 100-200 calories to my intake, and its always gotten things moving again. Maybe it should have been a temporary increase to shake up my metabolism rather than a permanent one? Perhaps I should consider dropping it back to 700-900 and protein back to 80g. Goals may be easier to hit if the numbers seem less daunting. I know there are many days where I basically throw my hands up and say "F*ck it...I know I'm not going to get close, so why bother forcing it at all?" With lower numbers, the gap would be easier to close. I could certainly try to contact them. Kinda feels like bordering on fraud though, since I know they're not getting paid anymore. And I don't feel I'm beating myself up. I'm just trying to be accountable. As previously mentioned, I've already had bypass - there are no options for revision. I can't afford to f*ck it up! -

Really? I have a good friend that just had her band revised to a sleeve in one surgery by Dr Russo. He advised me that he would do it in one surgery unless there is too much scar tissue. I had my band placed by Dr. Quebbeman with The NEW program, but honestly I really liked Dr. Braverman with that practice. Don't know if you've looked into them. I'm scheduled for the 22nd also! I am half way through the 2 week liquid diet....UGH!!!....No one has said anything about blood thinner shots though...as a matter of fact they told me not to take my daily baby aspirin for this last week before surgery..... I'm getting the revision surgery from lap-band to sleeve...hopefully....My doctor said he will try to do it all in one surgery...fingers crossed! -
