    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

-------- These days I'm barely getting in 500 cals and scary to say probably only 50g of Protein which is too low for my doc office -- they want me at 65-80g. I'm coming over a setback After some flounder that did not sit well so started back on full liquids at 8 weeks out. I'm almost 11 weeks out now and have been doing ok with salmon and stewed meats. most of my protein still comes from shakes blended with fage greek yogurt cause it takes way too long to eat any solids. Still recovering from hernia repair. Everything makes me gassy these days post flounder so I'm taking ultra tums as per my doc. I take spin classes 2-3x a week and have no idea where I get the energy from But it's a fun stress reliever. I feel fuzzy only when I don't get enough Water like minimum 6-8 cups daily or more on spin class days. Hope you feel better soon.
  6. Janie- Perks of Being a Wallflower, is the book they compared it to. I am about halfway into the curious dog, I don't see the resemblance, but it's a good book too. Well my weirdo dream for last night.. one of my gay buddies from high school was visiting me with his friends that I didn't know. I was really tired, so I went to bed and told them to let themselves out. They were, and I saw them sneaking back in. So I went to look, they were raiding my clothes (which were in the kitchen some reason) and stealing a bunch of PINK SWEATERS. uh huh.. I don't think I own any pink sweaters! Then we got into a fight, and then instantly I was on a road trip with my family & Russell. Russell jumps out of the van at a gas station--while we're still moving, to go to the bathroom. I kept thinking, how is he going to get back up here? And we kept right along.. so I finally made my dad turn around so we could go get him (I was convinced Russell did not think that through). And there was a bridge with a lot of water.. something scary happened that made me wake up in the middle of the night (with really bad arm cramps, I slept on it wrong) freaked out.. but I don't remember what! Finally remembered to bring my yogurt for breakfast, so enjoying that right now. Hope everyone has a good Friday!! TGIF! Oh and I must be oblivious, I don't remember a green shirt boob lady..I did notice a lot of the B&A are named Laura, which I figured had to do with Cookies, they fill in the blank with whatever your name is.

Shrinkin' Violets- Part 2 Read Here

Laura - I think that casserole sounds YUMMY! Asparagus is my fave too! Your sister is just plain odd. That's all there is to it. Kat - Have you looked up the patient info for Zyrtec? Might shed some light on the sitcheeayshun. Maybe you're anemic? I know after the CRAP I've been eating that I probably am. What I had today: oatmeal, coffee 1/3 c mashed potatos, small amt of squash, 1/4 c. chili cottage cheese & strawberries, granola on top 1/4 of a turkey wrap (got stuck), potato chips and ranch dressing vanilla froz yogurt cone Gee, I wonder why I'm not losing weight????????????? Gonna try to wean off of my Lexapro over the next few weeks. Wish me luck! It'd be nice to be off of meds. I have NO sex drive. I'm hoping it's the drugs and not a permanent state. Oy. I'm pooped. Nighty-night.
  8. Siggis is another brand of Icelandic yogurt - similar to Greek in being filtered and concentrated, so higher protein. Like Skyr, their flavored yogurts are a low sugar added, at around 11g total; compared to 6-8 g of naturally occurring sugar in unflavored yogurt, that isn't bad, and reasonable compromise between the usual national brands that can run 20+ g for the flavored varieties, or the usual "low carb" artificially sweetened types. The Icelandic yogurts also are nice in that they are not gaggingly sweet as most other flavored yogurts tend to be.

    SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS

Frustr8, had RnY on August. No prediet required. One day ahead of surgery all liquid diet. I’m 65 years young. 8 days out of surgery and doing great. Transitioned to puréed soup and yogurt yesterday. So far so good. Good Luck to you.
  10. @Groovymommy... You're doing GREAT! I'm so impressed with your high losses. How many grams of protein and water would you say you honestly get a day? The faintness and dizzy spells are a concern. Maybe now that the pepcid is helping your stomach you'll be able to eat and drink more. Crossing my fingers for you. And congrats on the new underwear! I look forward to that. I'm moving along. At my slow pace. My hair has started falling out. That's new and unwelcomed since I already thinned out when the early menopause hit. But I suppose it was expected. I'll also expect it to stop around month 8 like many say it will. And try and be clever with my hair styles until then. At least we're all mostly stuck at home right now. I'm 4.5 months post and I've lost 37 since surgery and 42 since the pre-op diet. I'm between 180-181 and Just past my halfway goal to 150. On average I eat about 1000 cals a day with 65-70 protein and about the same in carbs. I get 48 ounces of water a day. No more no less. It seems to be sustaining me. I don'T have dizzy spells or weakness. But I struggle to poop and have a LOT of headaches/migraines. I've started taking motrin now and again always with a prilosec. And started a steroid for a few days sue to several mirgaines in a row. A little worried about how they will affect my stomach but so far so good minus the constant constipation. Not a great deal else to share. No new clothes yet but I'd gained weight fairly quickly the last year so I was still wearing a couple different sizes regularly. Clothes are definitely looser and people are starting to comment on my losses now and the which is nice. I'm eager to hit 179 as that's what I weighed on a vacation we took 4 years ago where I enjoy the pictures I'm in. So it feels like a weight I can start acknowledging that I'm looking better despite having that common resistance to actually SEEING my progress in the mirror. The weather has turned cold here in the midwest so the daily long walks are over for a while. It's onto the treadmill which I don't love. But netflix makes it easier. Whatcha guys eating? I still rarely get fruits and veggies in. Maybe one serving a day. Hope my vitamin covers the rest. But I'm always hitting my protein goal so I'm feeling pretty accomplished. This is a typical day... I have my 23 gram smoothie in the morning which is greek yogurt, banana almond milk and PB2. Just had 2 oz of strip steak for lunch at 17 grams pro and two bites of my daughter's apple. The snack I just finished is coffee with chocolate fairlife milk and 1/4 cottage cheese for 13 grams pro. So I'm at 53 grams. Dinner will probably Chinese stirfry. I'll have 2 oz chicken and a few snowpeas. For another 12 grams protein. Then I'll have a treat... like a square of dark chocolate or a few bites of my husband's dessert. That's a typical day. Plus 48oz water and at least 30 minutes cardio/power walking. Hope everyone else is seeing success. Feel free to share their typical day. ONWARD!

    May Surgeries - check in!

Doing very well (did not expect this at all). Had surgery on 5/11, and I am down 18 lbs. I eat about 4 meals a day (2 oz each - I measure!!!) and mostly protein: fish is my favorite (cod, tuna, salmon, eel and in general any easy to bake / grill fillet). Green yogurt and Kefir (drinkable yogurt) have been very helpful to get my gut feeling well in the 2 week post-op diet. I walk or exercise about 30min-1 hour, about 2-3 miles a day. For those sushi lovers out there, I had some sashimi yesterday and fish eggs (salmon and other), as they are approved/allowed by my dietician. They were amazing (basically pure protein + some healthy fat). An interesting side-effect for me is that now I just wake up at 5-6 am and I feel bored, so now I take the dog out for a morning walk. I used to have to sleep much longer (I guess the body was needing the time to process the food/calories intake). This feels like the best thing I've done in my life and for my health! I do NOT feel hungry like I used to feel before and that is a sensation I cannot explain to others who've never felt that kind of gut-hunger every day in their lives. It is so freeing to feel so good and not feel like you're a slave to your biology and hunger. Hope everyone else will get to feel GREAT SOON.

    Snacks YES OR NO

I have snacks, usually at night. I can't hit my protein goals without them (just not able to eat enough at meals). My snacks tend to be protein oriented. Some examples: Deli turkey and pepperoni wraps, light string cheese, light cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sometimes I repeat a meal, beef jerky, almonds. If I do carbs I try to limit it to one thing and eat it after I eat something dense like deli turkey so it doesn't "slide" through. For me carb snacks might be: PBJ (only if I ran a few miles because its high calorie), 1 oz of chips / pretzels / crackers, cheese and crackers, hummus and carrots, oatmeal (only on work out days).

    Steady losers ;-)

Chef Dan just asked if Pro Lynn is bi-polar... ROFL! Crazy men that I work with!!! At each others throat. Marianne and I just sit back and laugh. The fill... I can't tell if its working yet. I feel like eating, I ate 1/2 a yogurt around 9 and by 10:30 I was looking for something, I ate cheese. I felt full at 1/2 a yogurt but it sure didnt' last long. I guess that means I'm not TOO tight. I know its still mushy time and mushy/liquids never did satisfy me much, so I'm anxious to eat real food and see how I'm feeling. Love ya girls.

Candice, the quilt room it DONE!!!!. I just love it, all cozy, of course if I had a fireplace it would be even better. Did the maga shop for groceries, so I am set for the month, did a little Christmas shopping. But I am TIGHT. Today I have managed to eat, 1/2 a carton of 100 cal yogurt & some veggie chips. I am going to try a stuffed portabello mushroom for dinner. It is just stress, I want my house clean before I go, but I don't know that it is going to happen. Unfortunately DD#4 let me down again. She was suppose to clean for her car insurance, but not. But at least she is paying for the insurance. Tomorrow won't be pretty when I give her the bill. I have some homework to get done & then I'll check back in. Candice it sounds like you had a glorious time!!! Phyl? Linda?
  15. Okay. Started out with a lot of pain in my chest and my feet were very swollen, thankfully 4th day the swelling went down and now for the most part the only pain I have is when I eat. Been on soft foods for two days and vegetables and fruits do not go down well. Yogurt has been the easiest.

Janet, I so can see you as a beautician, you would be perfect. I'm tired today. Had a drean that I forgot to go to work. Hummm, a subconcious wish? nah, I need the $$$$. Monday should be fun at work...we are suppose to be 90 degrees. I don't like working when it is so hot. We have to keep watering everything and then it gets all muggy. I know I'm whining. Like I said, just tired. Phyl, if you get a chance when you go to Costco, would you pick up a bag of frozen blueberries? My standard breakfast is blueberries, Kashi Almond Crunch, and Dannon lite & fit vanilla yogurt. I will bring the Kashi and I can pick up the Dannon lite when I get there, but I imagine the blueberries would be difficult to get to. I usually snack on 100 cal packages of kettle korn, but I'll bring that. I'll bring the stuff to make Steph's yummy chicken salad, costco cans of chicken dejion mustard, light miracle whip, tidbit pineapples, craisins, almonds, red onion, and celery. When I'm being fancy, I put it in cantelope halves. I think I still have enough chicken, but if you think about it, why don't you pick up some cans of chicken from costco. Believe it or not, I have tried it with lots of different brands, but the Kirkland is the best. Or, I can cook and chill some chicken breasts. What about chef salad one night using spinch leaves and regular salad leaves? There is a great yogurt based ranch style dressing that Lighthouse has, lighter on calories. Will we be able to go beach combing? I love to search for cool rocks, shells, and ocean glass. Okay NOW I'm getting excited. Suppose I shoudl get ready for work, check in tonight, TTFN

    January surgeries?!

Oh yeah, i can have that stuff too- minus the creamy soups. But I dont have any desire to have jello or yogurt to be honest. I will save that for after. SF Popsicle too but it's cold as hell here....so I don't want anything cold. At least you only have to do a week
  19. melimel35089

Lucky #7 are still going strong !!!

I have been eating a lot of beans, but the doctor would REALLY like me eating real foods and not liquids. That was the entire reason I had this surgery! As for the sugar...HELL NO....I have not had anything that has sugar in it. I will see what it feels like to dump once I get to maintenance (which should be around the end of July/mid August). I will really only try to sugar (in the form of BBQ sauce and Teriyaki sauce) so I know what the start of it feels like in case I eat something at a restaurant and feel it coming on and stop eating. The closest I have come to dumping is getting a light headed feeling when I eat too much sugar alcohol. They really aren't joking when they say that your taste buds totally change when you have gastric bypass. I really have no desire to eat anything sweet. I have some sugar free fudgecicles but I don't eat them very often. SF Pudding makes me sick and sometimes even yogurt is too sweet. The only other way that I would eat (or attempt to eat) sugar is if I start getting too far below goal weight. The doctor is a little worried about that possibility seeing that I started out at such a low BMI for bypass. I am already halfway to goal and I am only one month out of surgery. I am starting to fit back into some of my clothes and had a really good run/walk this morning. I'm STARTING to feel like a normal human being again. Well it is be time...just wish this basketball game would hurry up and get over...with the Heat beating the Mavericks of course.
