Its not that i dont like food, but theres 3 meals a day and if i cut out the protein shake, theres just not enough protein or calories in it. For instance, today i had a half an egg for breakfast and a whole 5.3oz yogurt for lunch, which was way more than usual. Thats literally maybe 110 calories and 15gs of protein. I cant have some huge dinner..

I do have the baby bell mini cheese as a meal, and yogurt yes. I have protein in my meals but there are only 3 meals and they are obviously very small.

May 24 Surgery Day
ChooChi73 replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey all, I am a week post op today. I started on full liquids(pudding, yogurt, creamed Soups etc.) Yesterday. My NUT said I could have very thinned out cream of wheat, so that's what I had for Breakfast this morning. We'll I'm pretty sure I experienced my first dumping syndrome. I felt faint, nauseous, horrible sweats, diarrhea. Ugh. Probably won't have that again. Creamed soups settle well though. On the plus side. I've lost 10 lbs since surgery, and 25 lbs since pre-op diet!!! one step at a time, one sip at a time, one pound at a time. -
Cottage cheese, yogurt going down too easy?
ssflbelle replied to jackbh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't that odd I had 2 weeks of liquids only. I was not allowed yogurt or cottage cheese until week 4. I find even now 17 weeks post op there are many times I can't even finish 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or a cup of yogurt. -

Cottage cheese, yogurt going down too easy?
jackbh posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in my second week since surgery and I'm on whole liquids now. I'm following directions and eating a little bite at a time and waiting for any stomach responses but I'm a little concerned that the yogurt and cottage cheese is going down so easily. I get a little tiny " don't put no more in here just yet" signal but after I wait I can finish 3 oz. easy of this stuff. After reading about how so many others have had problems at this stage of getting stuff down or not being able to eat more than 1-2 oz. I'm slightly concerned that it's going down as easily as it is. I'm not complaining at all about being able to get the Protein shakes, Water and all in like I'm supposed to but I guess from reading so many posts I was expecting this to be a lot more difficult. This surgery does make you a little nuts don't it? Like I wasn't before. Lol. -
I have been banded for a little over a month now (yay! 35lbs lost) and I have found whenever I am hungry even after I've eaten 3 small meals a day I would eat either string cheese or Greek yogurt. It has really helped me doing so because if I don't snack I'm afraid I would turn it into a buffet style meal. Willpower is key in this Chris (Banded 4-15-2016 @328lbs)

I was also sleeved on 5/10. I lost 8lbs pre-op and 13 post-op but I'm at a stall. Started high Protein diet this week and I feel like I'm eating a ton. 3rd week diet plan is yogurt, cottage cheese, 2% cheese, eggs and nut butter. I have to eat a 4 "meals" a day (2oz - 3oz each) plus 2 premier Protein shakes a day. I end up eating approx 1000 calories a day and 110 grams of protein. Seems like a ton. Doctor says to walk 30 minutes a day 3-5 days a week. No more and no less until 2 months post-op. Glad to find some other May sleevers. Look forward to following your progress. My surgery day is the same as you. 6/27. 6/7: A group counseling session 6/9: Pre/op day. Meeting with the surgeon again, NUT to review pre/post op diet and bone density scan 6/13: start two week high Protein liquid diet. I believe I am allowed 4 oz of real protein, like chicken, yogurt, eggs and unlimited no starchy veggies with 4 Protein shakes a day. 6/27: THE BIG DAY! I am scheduled to arrive at the hospital at 1:15pm which makes me nervous since you can have nothing to drink, not even Water after Midnight!

How do you calculate your protein intake?
Bufflehead replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh all my food -- except the stuff that comes in single servings like yogurt cups -- on a digital scale, and track everything on myfitnesspal. I know kicking carbs is hard, I struggle with it too! I have found it very useful to go extremely low carb -- under 30 grams of carbs -- for three days to kick the cravings. Those first two days especially are awful but after that it gets easier and the cravings go away. Good luck to you! -
Yes I started on 1 Oz protein shakes in hospital. Now on 4 oz...want food. This sucks! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App Whatever you do, don't try food. I made that mistake thinking I was ready for it about a week out and it ended in disaster. Not only did the one or two bites come back up, but I couldn't even handle a protein shake for a couple days after. This too shall pass, sleeved on 3/1 and at three months I'm alternating between soft and regular diet. I still use protein shakes daily, lots of Greek yogurt, and oatmeal has been a life saver. Being three months out, I'm also down 60lbs and have 50 more to go until mine and my surgeons initial goal. Have faith in their plan, and don't rush yourself. Yes, what you are doing is very bad for your body. You should be getting way more calories...800 at least. You should be eating seafood, fish, chicken, turkey, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, Refried Beans, and soft cooked veggies, even some fruit. Really, you should be able to eat anything at this point except maybe seeds, nuts and skins. The shakes are fine, but they don't need to be your only source of Protein at this point. And it doesn't matter if you aren't hungry, you must eat anyways. Consider it a prescription just like an antibiotic or blood pressure medication or any other drug that you must take in order get well. You should also be taking your Vitamins....a multi, B12, Calcium, Iron and D3. Again, just part of your "prescription for health". Were you told about these? You are starving yourself, causing malnutrition, which is probably why you are sick. BTW, what hack did you goto in Mexico that didn't provide you with postop nutritional information? Thats ridiculous. I went to Mexico, too, and got a huge folder of guidelines. They even have a staff dietician I could call anytime with questions. At the very least, you will need followup with your PCP for bloodwork that should be done at 3,6,12 months and then at least annually forever.

Am i in trouble?
glitter eyes replied to GSleeve822's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you able to eat soft protein yet like eggs, fish, yogurt.. Etc.? Are you getting physically sick from eating or has your appetite just disappeared? I know from my experience I didn't have an appetite at all for the first six months. Sometimes the sight or smell of food would make me nauseous. However, food is fuel for our bodies and I began to look at food in that manner. I logged all my intake on an app called My fitness pal, that helped keep me accountable to my protein and vitamin levels. Try to get your protein in and up your calories if possible. I think I was eating about 500-800 calories as day a few months out. It is hard in the beginning because you are essentially learning to eat again. Try a variety of foods, you might be surprised at the things you like. I used to hate eggs pre op but now I love them. Used to love tuna- now it gives me heartburn. It's like one big experiment- but you just have to keep trying and eventually it all fall into place. Check out some Bariatric recipes/ideas and branch out. One good website is called "The world according to egg face". She has some great ideas. Hang in there and good luck. Also, if you could give us some information on why you are having trouble maybe we could help more. -
@gsleeve822... At two months out from surgery your diet should be more varied... shakes shouldn't be the main source of Protein... Are you having food sources of protein such as ground turkey, tuna, cheese, yogurt, etc?... 2 months of shakes all day everyday would turn anybody off eating... I was told around 3 weeks after surgery, to be moving away from shakes and get protein from real food... Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Soft food phase
StefanieSparklePants replied to brandymb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty much lived on cottage cheese, refried beans, yogurt, applesauce, scrambled eggs and peanut butter for a couple months. -
There are various "recipes" for shakes that you can find online, and some are surprisingly yummy. I like Unjury's chocolate Protein shake with a little PB2 powder blended in, or a Torani sugar free syrup. If you haven't checked out the blog "The World According to Eggface" I recommend popping over and looking at her shake recipes. Starting about a week out I began making smoothies using a Greek or Bulgarian yogurt that is high in protein and low in carbs and some frozen fruit. It felt more like a "normal" meal to me. Dr. Matthew Weiner is a bariatric surgeon who has a video on YouTube about the "set point smoothie" that he recommends to his patients. I also like adding GENEPRO or another unflavored Protein Powder to Crystal Light. For me finding things to look forward to and distract myself was beneficial during recovery. I took advantage of the time off to binge watch several shows everyone raves about that I'd never had time to watch, read some great books, and got little treats like fresh flowers and candles that add a simple pleasure to the day. That helped me to take my mind off food. I had cravings for things that first week that I haven't desired at all ever since. Head hunger is totally normal, and for most people it lessens with time.

I had RNY on Apr-13-2016. I just started to eat more food (helped with my energy level). Spicy tuna tartar was one of the first things I tried and it was wonderful (surgeon agreed would be perfect). Although I couldn't eat much, mashed potatoes felt great in pouch. Mostly grilled chicken breast, fresh grilled fish and not much meat. I can no longer get an egg to my mouth. Surgeon said give it a rest for a couple weeks (great source of protein). Tons of yogurt and milk too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Soft food ideas
Inner Surfer Girl replied to FabFemale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may want to up your Protein. 60 grams seems low. What is your protein target? When I was on soft foods, I ate a lot of: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, tuna, salmon, fish, etc. -
Tuna, steamed veggies, cheese, yogurt, refried Beans. I also made a smoothie the other day using low fat vanilla yogurt and strawberries. You can add plain Protein powder to it. And lastly, a veggie stew. I was able to mash up the vegetables in the broth and it was pretty good! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Creative foods for newbie! Howdy y'all!
Blue1213 replied to beyondgrief's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery with Dr Balette in March of 2015. He's awesome! Right after surgery I mainly had yogurt and Fairlife milk. When I could move on to soft foods I often had eggs and string cheese. -

I am currently in the postop purée phase, and my doc said WENDYS chili is ok. So tonight was a busy night and I bought a small chili and it puréed really nice and tasted great. I could only eat a little less than a quarter cup but it was a welcome change from tuna, eggs and yogurt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What are your favorite snacks?
Daisee68 replied to hernewselfie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Have you made "cheese crackers" yet? Basically small cheese slices (or piles of shredded cheese) under the broiler. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2016/03/healthy-crunchy-snacks.html I like cucumbers and hummus, cucumbers & salsa, tomatoes & goat cheese, apple slices & cheese, greek yogurt, Protein shake, Protein Bars, beef Jerky, almonds, Mr Cheese O's (http://www.sonomacreamery.com/mr-cheese-os). I know there are more....I just cant think of them.... -
Thank you for the reply! I have always had good success at getting my Water in. My last appt. with my surgeon, we were supposed to have gone over the blood results of my complete nutrition panel (I gave 14 vials of blood, whoa!) but of course, they did not make it to the office in time. So next week I should know if I am lacking something. I'm probably NOT getting in enough protein, but then again I always make that my first bite. I even just finished my three egg yolk and raw milk shake, flavored like eggnog. I get the fresh eggs from a local, beautiful pastured farm here near my house. It's a food club. Or I'll eat three or four large scallops. Lots of seaweed salads. Sometimes raw cheese and of course the Greek yogurts. But, it is possible I am low on protein, thanks for mentioning it. I've had a bad molar cap, and could not chew meat for the three months I've been recovering. When I did, I would pay the price by having inflamed gums. I got that fixed just 2 weeks ago. =) I think you just helped. Will a lack in protein cause this> I am going to the gym again tonight and make sure I work up a sweat in case the yogurt did it to me.
