First of all you are NOT a failure you are doing what makes you happy and getting healthy if they cant see that then its on them the name calling and making you feel like you have nothing to offer they are dead wrong i'm proud of you and you should be proud you losing weight is not at all easy so try and be gentle with you and do your best to ignore them and if they have nothing nice to say to you then just walk away tune them out and act as though they dont exist, take are of yourself and remember you're worth it plus they sound jealous because of all the hard work you know they see you're doing, keep in touch if you want , it would be nice to make friends and chat with, plus i am brand new on here, take care...😎 -

I did this so in the future me and my husband can have a child because of infertility issues from being over weight. My doctors said not to get pregnant for atleast 18-24 months because my body wouldn’t be able to support a child and myself with proper nutrition and would cause a high risk of complications during pregnancy. -
How do i fill out the info on the left hand side of this page regarding my weight , my location etc its the info us users fill out use to let you in on mour personal lives.

Question for those who have flat feet/pronation
heck posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, I am about a month before surgery, and I am curious about how the weight loss has affected those who have collapsed arches / flat feet / those who wear orthotics in their shoes? Right now that is my biggest pain, so I'd love to know if it improved with the weight loss, and if so, roughly how long it took to improve the pain in feet and knees. Thanks! -

I was told to use two forms of protection for the first year post-op because rapid weight loss can make you SUPER fertile. My program wants folks to not get pregnant for the first 2 years post-op. -

It’s 4 weeks post surgery for me and I am still having problems meeting my water and protein daily requirements. I feel like my weight loss is slow. I also feel like I’m not in a good place mentally sometimes. I have to keep reminding myself that my body IS a machine that I have to keep running well. If I don’t eat & drink as I should, I will feel all sorts of lethargy and negativity which in turn makes it more difficult to exercise and move. I’m very grateful that I have a wonderful medical support team whom I’m meeting monthly (used to be weekly) but sometimes it’s hard getting out of my head. -
I was so worried before surgery of dropping weight super fast and having to buy so many expensive outfits for work. Well, it hasn’t been that fast. And thrifting at Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Savers has been fun. The trick is to go to the ones in wealthier towns for barely worn quality clothes. Amazon or Walmart the undies and socks of course!

You just learned that you can ask for help, and it’s a strength. Your wife sounds like a good help too. I read “Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies “ to get started with all the lingo and comparisons of surgeries. Online YouTube videos are great too. It looks like we’re neighbors too. I’m in Quincy. Which program did you get referred to? -
Many of us feel exactly the way you do about our weights and that’s what landed us here. I think you will be just fine as soon as you get some information about what you are up against from the doctor as well as on this site. You do not have to know which surgery you want right yet. In fact I went through all the months of the medically supervised diet not knowing for certain which surgery I wanted (the surgeon did have a recommendation for me though and I ended up trusting his judgement but they allowed me the time to make up my mind). Ooh and maybe someone who has had both a hip transplant and WLS can respond but I don’t think WLS is more invasive. I was up walking (with a nurse) soon after I woke up from surgery (in recovery).

Coop, this is a safe space! We're all in the same boat as you or were where you are now. Sure it's easier for some than others, but you can do this. We're here for you! We will help you as much as we can. That's what this community is all about, supporting each other. Sure eating after weight loss surgery is an adjustment, but you adjust. A lot of people say that your taste changes after surgery and you don't even enjoy the foods that you used to. As the weight starts coming off, and your clothes fit better, you realize that you've broke free from the grip that food had on you. I actually miss the restriction that my Lap Band gave me. I'm currently waiting for revision surgery. I had a Lap Band for about 8 years and had it removed last year and now almost ready to get a surgery date for gastric bypass. Best wishes to you Coop! You got this! 💪 -

You can do this. Your frustration with your current situation will propel you forward! Your provider will take your medical history into account and suggest which surgery is best for you, or they might tell you any of them will work for you and let you choose. So for now just familiarize yourself with the surgeries available. Whether or not weight loss surgery is more invasive than a hip transplant? I can't really say. I think most weight loss surgery nowadays are done robotically, so the recovery is easier because robotic surgery is more precise and there's less tissue disturbed, unlike open surgeries. Along with TAP blocks and other modern techniques, pain is much better managed now than probably even ten years ago. And yes, I think all of us on this site can relate to you, it's the same reason we all began our journeys. Best wishes to you! -

you wont eat the same way again as in large portions... but once you are healed up and recovered you will be able to go out to eat, Eat some of the stuff you did before just smaller portions. Go on youtube and watch videos of peoples journey's through weight loss surgery. Many have videos from before, during and after surgery and even years after surgery and what they are eating and such. There are probably a hundred or so videos. Its great to see how other people do. Also make sure you fill out your sidebar with your stats and surgery you are planning on getting. It helps a ton with answering questions. you can do this in your profile tab -

Someone asked me in this post what surgery will i be getting and honestly i have no idea as i mentioned my PCP put in the consult a few days ago thats about all i know at this point , i have a virtual interview April 1st. My wife as a matter of fact had gastric bypass 17 years ago and she tries to help me with what i could possibly be up against but it has been so long she does not want to mislead me or give me wrong information , anyway i am pretty scared because even though i have had both my hips replaced about 10 years ago i was told this surgery is more invasive i honestly do not know who to believe , i just know that i am uncomfortable in my clothes and if they fit they are extremely tight ( by the way i am 284 lbs and i am 5'7 } i am so obsessed with losing weight that i take all the weight loss pills and they do not work , i go on the cleanse juices, they do not work, i can not work out because i have a bad back, i am at my wits end it is so frustrating being heavy i am so self conscious of my weight i try on my clothes all the time, i apologize for rambling i am so tired of living like this , can anyone relate , thank you for listening , it helps. Me, too. It seems like clothing designers think fat people want to look like sofas. Hopefully, you will breeze through the stress test and get your surgery date soon. Mine was the 8th. I had to repose the 8 pound gain from the hospital so I have only lost a couple of pounds on top of that. My dietitian said to concentrate on healing right now and not losing. I can’t wait to have something nicer to wear! Tee shirts and baggy jeans have gotten old. I will definitely have to figure out a better style once the weight is gone.

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
UPDATE: Just wanted to give ANOTHER quick update to my situation. LOL So as you may know I met with my dietician on March 3rd and we discussed my food logs and exercise and how it appeared I was doing everything right. Also told her that the only new different thing that happened back when my stall started was the fact that I halved my Metformin. She didn't seem to think that was the issue. But for sh*ts and giggles I started myself back on my old dose the next day. So guess what, on March 4th I weight in at 243.2. But then two days ago I weighed in at 235.4!!!! Pretty much an 8lb loss in only 12 days!!! Coincidence or what? I did NOTHING else new or different. All I know is that the scale has NOT moved like that in like 5 months!!! I also had my doc appointment today and we discussed what happened and he said if I feel like it's helping my weight move again then to stay on it. Otherwise, if I stall again, we can then discuss some other medicinal options to possibly help me start losing again. Overall he is happy with my progress and tells me to just keep doing what I've been doing. I HOPE the Metformin was the issue all along but I'm not getting too happy just yet. I'll keep updating periodically. -

I've had a different mind set for awhile now. I'm doing this for me. I'm doing this because it's best for me. I did the research. I learned about weight set point. I've researched about Ghrelin (and Leptin). I've yo-yo dieted since I was a teen. I'm now in my 50's. I've spoken to those who have had wls. I've talked to physicians about success rates and complications. I'm sure you've done a lot of these things or more yourself. Besides, you already had the procedure. Shoot, I'd shut them down with that. But honestly, did you previously think of alternative ways to celebrate birthdays, holidays, etc. I would say that's an example of a change in thinking. Hell, you making changes like that is a major success in my book. You got this -

There are many, many people on here who keep there weight loss surgery a secret. That way you get less negative comments. I told my husband and son. Its no one else's business. You can't unsay it now so you need to just smile and say the statistics are in my corner this time, even if you , my brother are not. Be strong, you got this and us on here. PS. I always know what to say, 10 minutes after I need it -

Absolutely not, not one of them know for that very reason. People are awful. Sorry about that. "isn't that what got you to this point in the first place, wanting to eat things like that?" I've had "you'll always have a weight problem" (I was 17) And when I got my band "that's very you, isn't it, trying to solve things with money and a short cut" I feel you. -

Time to assertively tell these people that your weight loss, weight or any related dietary/food intake is no longer up for discussion. If they continue to bring up these matters, restate your position and change the subject. -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies
suzannethemom replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also having surgery on APRIL 12th (sleeve procedure). We have similar body types. I am 5’4” with a starting weight of 223. I lost 12 pounds since my first visit on January 25th, so my surgeon approved only 10 days of the liquid diet (instead of the typical two weeks). Things are moving so fast for me and I’m so thankful. -

Hey, me too. My surgeon just explained to me today that he creates a 32 French bougie, which is nice and small. We are so lucky! I can lose up to 75% of my excess weight. Some surgeons make the pouch too big, so weight loss is much slower. -
Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺
Arabesque replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery almost three years ago & have three friend who’ve also had sleeve surgery in the last 2-4 yrs. They haven’t developed Gerd or the lesser reflux. I had mild reflux before my surgery but managed it successfully through my food & drink choices. I only had issues if I made bad choices like too much champagne or too many gin & tonics - the bubbles groan. Yes, I still have reflux though I experience different symptoms but again not that severe. I take a PPI every day now & for about 3 days out of 4 that’s enough. I get some burning in my throat late at night a couple of times a week but it’s not that bad. I would be included in that 30% stat even though I had it before, as many obese people do, & it’s still pretty mild. This is my experience. We’re all different & you can never predict how you will react to the surgery & the changes to your digestive system. I’m one of the 35% who developed gall stones but I could have developed them because of the weight loss, menopause or because I have Gilbert’s. If your existing reflux is severe enough to make you sick when you have an attack, my thought would be that you’re not a candidate for a sleeve. But that’s my opinion & I’m not a medical person. Do your research, ask questions. All surgeries have side effects & there’ll be pros & cons for all of the weight loss surgery options too. Remember, you have the right to ask for which ever surgery you think may be best for you. All the best. -
Vegetarian meat substitutes
Darktowerdream replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I get enough protein without meat I love No cow protein bars. If you need protein shake supplement Vega yea one I found I like. I am not vegan. I always ate a mix of vegetarian foods and meat but health reasons I slowly stopped eating meat. I did have eggs with a veggie burger (the actual vegetable style burger a way of getting veggies made in a way my gut could handle) Dr. Praeger's Cauliflower Burger and California Burgers have been my go to. I used to put egg on a small veggie burger. They have "Just egg" that is a vegetarian egg substitute that you can make your own scramble or omelette. There are many options not just beans. You can take plant based omegas, Bragg Nutritional yeast, Vitamin K to name three I can think of as top supplements. Protein intake is based on body weight and activity base protein is 0.36 grams Protein per 1lb of body weight. and more based on type of diet and activity level. too much protein actually converts to sugar. I am now working through some issues not related to my surgery. but have reached goal and maintained since my surgery 2019.
