Some studies have shown that D3 is better absorbed by our bodies than D2. When doctors prescribe Vitamin D, it is typically D2 however. I personally was prescribed Vitamin D for a very substantial deficiency and switched to an OTC supplement of Vitamin D3 after finishing my first Rx bottle because it was cheaper. The same studies that show D3 is better absorbed also seem to indicate that you need about 1/3 the IUs of D3 to match D2. So instead of taking 15000 IUs of Vitamin D2 once a week, I take 5000 IUs of Vitamin D3 once a week. My deficiency is almost gone after 6 months and my PCP is pleased. Definitely be careful with Vitamin D, however. It can be toxic if taken in high doses. The recommended average intake is 200 IU/day. Vitamin D supplements with a few thousand IU are not intended to be taken every day! It might be worthwhile to visit your PCP and have them do a Vitamin D blood test so you can know if you are deficient. Then you can get an accurate dosage from your doctor to address your personal needs. Vitamin D deficiency has recently come to the forefront since recent studies have found that lots of people are significantly deficient these days, so a lot of doctors are now aware of it and checking for it even routinely. That's how my doctor caught me! Check out the wikipedia for more info on Vitamin D in general: Cholecalciferol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is totally food porn! U know what gets me so pissed is that at the gym they have "food network" as one of the presets on a Tv. I mean really we r here cuz we r fat and thats what I have to watch ... JERKS. Anywho I LOVEEE carbs and well I am 3 months out and there r still days when Im just like WTH and sit around being crappy all day cuz I am carb deprived. I am mean to the world and just plain PMS-y without the pms. LoL Usually those days I end up eating my good for me popcorn and having an extra cheesestick. Now that I am writing this I cant remember how far along u are so I am not sure if u can have those things yet or not. I wish i could say it gets easier, but I just dont think it does. Its a battle I fight everyday non-stop. I love my Pasta, my chips, my subway, MY CARBS! LoL. U arent alone though, keep up the good work and at least u can say u lost ur weight even if u did miss ur sandwiches along the way.

Low BMI'ers - where'd ya go?
zoekids replied to theosmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, the OCC van picks you up at the airport. Depending on what time you arrive, they either bring you to the clinic for pre-op testing or is early enough the surgery too or to the hotel for the testing and the procedure to be done the following day. The driver explains how to deal with the border crossing, which lines to get into etc. He makes it very easy. They also know which border crossing has the fastest lines. They must do a leak test during surgery, but then they do another barium leak test 2-3 days post surgery. You swallow a gulp of barrium they use some machine that shows your insides on a TV screen and you can watch it go down your new stomach and then into the intestines. It is pretty cool. -

I'm 3 days post op too. I had a small BM befor leaving the hospital yesterday, but prior to having it, I had asked my nurse how long to wait on the first BM. She said to take some Miralax if I hadn't had one by the evening of day three post op, which for you means tonight. -

Overwhelmed!
msjustified replied to Stacie from St. Louis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am 3 weeks post op. Just start small. I stock my fridge and freezer with stuff I knew would work. I bought a bag of frozen chicken legs. I was told dark meat tended to be more moist. I also bought various types of fishing Talapia, Whitening, salmon, I bought a cornish hen, smal packages of ground sirloin, turkey meatballs. I also bought an assortment of veggies ( canned, and frozen). I picked up a number of marinades ( lemon pepper, terrikaki). I made sure items to prepare tuna salad , chicken salad, egg salad. I found some reduced fat crackers to go along with that. I kept snack foods ( cottage chees, hummus, string cheese, applesauce). With this list I know that any given time I can prepare dinner and have leftovers for lunch. My meals consist of a Protein (fish, chicken , turkey) and a veggie. My thought was to slowly ease myself back into regular foods and just keep it simple at first. Hope this helps. I am down 29 pounds since the liquid diet. Take care -

Aetna approved my surgery, was sleeved on 9/14 and now they are saying not approved???
njjewing posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
So I got my approval letter in the mail on August 5th. My nurse received hers electronically along with my precert number. I was sleeved on Sept. 14th and sent home after 4 days in the hospital due to some complications. Today at my 3 week follow up, my nurse tells me that she has been arguing with my insurance company for 2 weeks now saying that they called her while I was in the hospital saying that my surgery was never approved due to no record of precertification. How can they say that when we have approval letters and a precert number and all forms regarding that are filled out and were submitted and approved? She showed them to me today and all the papers and emails that Aetna has sent her and all say approved on them. I am wondering if because the total of my surgery including dr fee, anesthesia, hospital room, drugs, ct scan, etc comes to a little over $70,000??? are they trying to buy time to see how much they actually will pay?? -
I see my regular doctor this week, but I see Dr Vaughn next week. I'm beyond excited and hope something can be done. I'm only 28, standing 5'3", and weighing in at 300+lbs! My doctor and I have done everything, and I still can't lose weight!

Help, two months or so to go before sleeved!
Morgandobes posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
And I feel lika big, fat sausage. I have gained 10 lbs since my band unfill the first of march, and I am worried about what might happen before I get the surgery. The doc has to remove my band(maybe week after next) wait 1-2 months for my stomach to heal, then i will get sleeved. I dont want to put on another 10 or 20 lbs! Maybe I should get some appetite supressants or something. Blech, Lisa -
Help, two months or so to go before sleeved!
Tiffykins replied to Morgandobes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is super frustrating. When I was waiting on my revision, I gained 16lbs pounds over 3 months. Totally frustrating, I still had my band, but no restriction, so I just ate more protein than carbs until I had my food funeral then I eat anything and everything I wanted for about a week. -
I'm starting my 7th week post op. Should I focus more on calories or carbs? I know to focus on Protein, but didn't know about the others. Thnx for any info... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App

Yesterday I had to have all of my fluid removed due to dehydration complications. I had a fill on 8-6 and it was really really tight, much tighter than ever before and I kind of suspected it was too much for me, but I had been plateaued for over a month and was impatient and restless to get back to losing, so even though drinking water in the dr.s office didn't go down as easily as I said to him it did, I felt like I could use the extra restriction. And the weight melted off quickly, 10 lbs in a week and I was thrilled. Sure I wasn't able to keep hardly anything down, but fluids went down fine and I ignored my body freaking out. I ignored my near constant dizziness and the fact that it is unsafe to live on 200-400 calories per day. Told myself I was fine and did not incerase my fluid intake or take my vitamins. Saturday we went hiking and it was a tough hike, Dh kept pressing me to drink more water and I ignored him, I didn't feel thirsty. Sunday I was wiped out and told myself it was just from the hike and rested most of the day, Monday I could not keep anything down, not even fluids. I'd sip and PB, water, juice, everyhing came back up- and I started to be a little concerned. SO Tuesday I took it easy and PB'd a little when I ate solids, but kept fluids down mostly- told myself I was good to go. Wednesday I could not keep fluids down again and admitted to myself that I was probably overfilled but rested Thursday and kept fluids down fine. I did not drink more than I normally would or attempt to really re-hydrate myself. Yesterday was Friday and I realized I was in trouble. I had dropped 15 lbs in less than 2 weeks and my lips were cracking and dry, my head throbbing and I realized I had no kept down a bit of solid food in about a solid week. I sipped water, it came up, I sipped warm juice, it came up, even my saliva was coming up. I called fillcenters that morning and asked to schedule the unfill, told them I was kind of in trouble. My dr was off yesterday and they had trouble scheduling to get me in. By 4pm I was throwing up saliva every 10 minutes and realized if I didn't get an unfill I was going to be in the hospital by the end of the weekend. So I called the dr's office directly and my dr found out the shape I was in and told me to get to his office immediately for an unfill and he came in just for me (nicest guy, I tell you) He advised a complete unfill for the next 2 weeks. I about started to cry but I knew I needed a break and to slow down. We talked about symptoms of dehydration, what I need to do differently and about the negatives of losing the weight too fast. He said for where i am at (close to goal) if I lose more than 3 1/2 lbs a week, I am losing too fast and need to change my eating or get some unfill. He said my body was spazming due to the severe dehydration and we removed all 2.5ccs of my fluid. So here I am, I have a game plan to maintain and stay on track during the next few weeks, going to work at not allowing all those carbs to get me addicted in the next few weeks and after I am hydrated, I have a weight loss goal of 2 lbs to lose on my own without the band. But it's kind of scary to fly solo right now. My body does need a break, but ugh-- if I had taken care of myself and not been so stubborn and high on the rapid loss, I would still have my trusty filled band right now for weak moments. SO DRINK YOUR FLUIDS, FOLKS!!!

What am i doing wrong????????????
TracieCat replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't stress about it, same thing happened to me shortly after surgery. I lost alot in that first week, and then it pretty much stopped and I gained back like three or four pounds. I was upset but just kept doing what I was supposed to and lo and behold, the scale started its quick move downward again. I gather from seeing folks talk about it, that this is a usual and normal occurrence. -

I still do enjoy food but it's different now. I enjoy quality healthy food. I no longer eat the greasy fast food and fried things. I still enjoy a sweet treat here and there but I limit that to maybe one small treat every week or two and I didn't allow that till I was about a year out. I make sure that I don't allow trigger foods to stay in my home or I will want to pick at it too much. I am currently 15 months out. HW 376 in 2011 SW 319 9/28/15 CW 146.8 today 172.2 lost since surgery and 229.2 overall. -

I'm not sure what's going on but seriously I haven't felt like this in 6 weeks.. It's a hunger that keeps coming back, I'll have to contact my doctor tomorrow and ask for a check up or something because this can't be normal. Hopefully it's a one off and tomorrow will be back to normal.. I could be mistaking swelling of stomach pain for hunger I don't know but I'm concerned Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had a band put in 21/12/2014. At first it was fine and I could eat and drink normally, after my first fill it was the same. I had my third fill in March, and after the fill I was told to have a drink of water before I went home and stay on a liquid diet for 24 hours. I drunk the water before I left with no problems, but when I got home tried to have some soup which caused chest pain and instantly came back up. I couldn't even drink hardly anything, and didn't even try to eat for 3 days and felt terrible. After a few weeks I was able to drink with no problems, but eating was hit and miss - some days I could eat relatively normally (slowly and chewing well) but other days I would take one bite and get stuck. Anyway, 3 weeks ago I started being able to eat normally with no sickness so decided to go for another fill on 4/5/2015. Since then I've been back to how I was before - hardly being able to drink and can't eat at all. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this, and if anyone has any advice because I'm starting to worry and feeling so rubbish at the moment.
