    June 2022 surgery buddies

I am ALWAYS texting my husband lists of things to stop and get. 🤣 It took me a little while to get somewhat accustomed to real food again. I am approaching it slowly as initially my first few forays into chicken did not go well. The only thing I have really missed, believe it or not, is salads. 🤣🤣🤣Now, 2 lettuce leaves and some s/f dressing, and I’m happy. 🤗 I still am on the cucumber kick! And, dh and I are going to the beach for a couple days, and I’m baking cloud bread to bring along. I figure I can pop it in the toaster at the breakfast buffet. Friday is my birthday and I just made a s/f cake mix with 12oz of diet sprite. It smells wonderful. My biggest adjustment has been eating very slowly and understanding that after 2 or 3 bites, I’m full. congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 and thank you for reading my post!

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Hi I'm 4 weeks to being 12 months from my OP I'm 112 lbs down and feeling pretty good could do with losing a little more but my dietitian said if I stayed at that he would be made up with me because I already had the sleeve before I wouldn't lose as much as just having one OP the surgeon told me I would only lose about 3 to 31/2 stone so I think I've done really well

    September Surgery Buddies!!

I’m doing way better then I expected. I’ve lost 137.5lbs weighing in at 142.5lbs. I never really set a goal weight with my surgeon and nutritionist it was more of I want to be able to get off most of the medication I was taking so that’s what we were focused on and it let me not worry about the scale so much. I’m happy to say I’m off all meds with the exception of my AFib meds which unfortunately I’ll never be able to come off of and I’m ok with that. But I think I have finally reached my first stall hard to believe lol as I’ve been stuck on 142.5 around 3 weeks now and again I’m ok with that. Just ready for the next step of skin removal surgery. They always say those last few pounds are always the hardest to come off. So don’t beat yourself up to bad. You’ve done a great job so far and some don’t even make it that far so be proud of yourself. It’s definitely the way I’m trying to look at WLS as a lifelong process and one that takes work that’s for sure lol. Whoever said this was the easy way out surely has no clue lol.

    Life after 168 pounds down.....

@Rachael101 you are doing a great job! When I see stats like yours it give me hope that i am headed in the right direction! My surgery is next week, I know that everyone's path is diffrent but seeing people succeed is very motivating and gives those of us following a similar path a glimps of what could be. My highest was 382 about a year ago - but I have been over weight all of my adult life (I am 48). Occasionally I feel others judgement (oddly enough more when I meet a new doctor - more so than new people). But mostly I am self conciouse when I bump into things, squeeze into places or choose not to participate because I am worried I wont fit. So really, I am a bigger problem than others... except those darn doctors who want to blame everything that happens on my weight (well, loose some weight, if that doesn't resolve then we will see what we can do.... <sigh> as if I haven't thought of that). Thankfully I have a great regualr team who have been working with me on health issues who can see past the weight and as a result, I've managed to loose 62 pounds in the last year (10 of that on the pre-op diet, 5 more days to go). I am looking forward to not worrying about bumping into things as I walk past or fitting into places (or exceeding weight limits)... I have already seen a little progress in some of those areas with the weight I have lost so far. I am also looking forward to not being as tired, being more social and getting some relief with some of my other medical issues. Keep up the great work!

Why is my PPI not working?

The Dutch healthcare system is very straightforward when it comes to medication. I'm pretty sure and unfortunately they will dismiss my concerns the first 6 weeks if I'm able to keep food and water down and tell me to wait and let the stomach heal

    September Surgery Buddies!!

How is everyone doing??? I'm 6 weeks away from exactly 1 year and honestly, feeling a little defeated that I'm not further along. I'd really hoped to be at goal (about 25lbs to go) or AT LEAST have hit 100lbs down (about 11lbs to go). The weight loss has slowed to a creep the last couple of months, so I'm fairly certain neither will happen. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if I'll really lose any more weight at all! Of course, I have to look back and be grateful for how far I HAVE come and what I HAVE accomplished. Nearly 90lbs lost, better mobility, back pain gone, asthma significantly improved, some 47 inches lost across my body, labs all perfectly normal and within healthy ranges, finally feeling at peace with my body..... The list truly goes on and on. This is the work of WLS though, isn't it? Balancing the good with the bad, the hard with the joyful, the work to be done with the progress already made. How are you all doing?

    August surgery buddies!

Many people will have to complete a portion of their pre-op diet on liquids. I had to do two days, but I've seen others who did multiple weeks of liquid.

    Pre op diet weight loss

I am 1 week into my pre-op, I have lost just over 10 lbs. I do about 3 low carb/sugar, High Protein shakes a day. About a half cup of either cottage cheese or scrambled eggs, 64-100 oz. water, and occasionally chicken broth. if I want a snack I have a sugar free ice pop or jello. I also drink a big (32 oz.) coffee every day. I have one more week, I am trying to hit another 10 lost.

    Pre op diet weight loss

Congratulations on your loss and getting a head start on those changes! That will certain help when you get back to a regular diet! I’m on day 3 of my 8 day liquid diet … (3 Protein Shakes a day, 24 oz 100% fruit juice [no sugar added] & a minimum of 64 oz of Water. I can also have unlimited sugar free Jello, popsicles, broth/bouillon or zero electrolyte drinks that count towards my water goal). So far I have had broth every day, it helps cut the sweet of the juice and Protein shakes, but I haven’t felt hungry or the need for more… yet. (The high protein diet is only 7 days, day 8 is all clear liquids - 60 oz of juice, 64 oz or more of water, plus I can have unlimited amounts of broth/boullion, sugar free popcicles, “zero” electrolight drinks, low calories water flavor aids… nothing red though).  As of this morning I have lost 10 pounds on my liquid diet (I have a lot to loose) - which brings me to 62 pounds lost so far since June 2021 (my highest weight).

    Pre op diet weight loss

I had an unusual pre op diet for 3 weeks. It was 40 ounces of skimmed milk, a non fat yogurt and as many non carby veg as I wanted. I lost 15lbs but oh boy was I glad when it ended. So was my husband, I had horrendous wind
  13. Takes a while for pantoprazole to kick in, sometimes as long as 3 to 4 weeks. I had the sleeve back in 2015 and I never had those symptoms in the beginning. I would call your surgeon. Maybe they can switch you to Omeprazole or another type of medication that will work better for your body. Fast forward, a few years, when I first started getting gerd symptoms, I was put on famotidine and when that stopped working, I was switched to Omeprazole and then to a few others.

    August surgery buddies!

Day 3 of pre-op diet (5 more to go). I’m down 10 pounds since staring the pre-op diet (62 total since I started trying to loose weight last year). Today was the first time I really “saw” weight loss in myself. My clothing have been looser, but I hadn’t noticed obvious body changes until this morning. It hit me - there’s going to be a lot of skin.. lol. Already getting some “wings”, but honestly I don’t mind it’s a badge of accomplishment at this point. I’ve earned those wings. 🤣 Today is the first day I have felt actual hunger, but I’ve been more active today than the last two days and it wasn’t bad, the protein shake helped. I also was around food and ok… but I have to stay off FB and avoid ads…. Those pictures kill me!! My plan is to get all my requirements in (shakes, juice, water) and if I feel like I need something more I’ll add in broth, jello… or one of the other allowed “free foods” to tide me over. I’m hoping I can drop at least another 11 or 12 lbs before Tuesday. That would put me in a really good position to get under the 300 lb mark before the end of the month and I have seen the scale point to anything in the 200’s in a looong time. I’m almost as excited to hit that number as I am to get to onederland! Lol. Now that will be a celebration!!

    July 2022 peeps!

Two weeks Post-Op today... The first 2-3 days were the worse with gas pains. Ended up at the hospital for two days, instead of one. I was given a prescription for pain: Percocet, and a prescription for nausea. Thankfully, I never had to use the nausea medication. Doc said all my incisions have sealed up and are healing well. Tried eggs for the first time last week and those went down and continue to go down well. Nothing so far that I've tried has given me any pain/issues, with the exception of a small breakfast burrito from WaWa (which I should've known better to try). I actually broke out of the 300's today, and weighed in at 299.8 lbs, which is 26 lbs less than what I started with, the 1st day of the pre-op diet. If I were to have to do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat! I hope everyone else out there is having a similarly nice enough experience thus far.
  19. You may have developed an intolerance to something. Gas and cramping means your body is having digestive issues with a certain good. Try cutting dairy for a week, if it improves there ya go, if not try sugar substitutes for the next week. I became lactose intolerant after surgery. Left side pain

Strong pain should have let up by now. Most people only have strong pain till week 3 or 4. I would definitely go to the ER and have a CT scan. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Why is my PPI not working?

Guessing you had the sleeve? Typically those with heartburn history are told to get bypass instead. but i had the sleeve and the acid reflux was bad for the first couple weeks. even with that same medication you are taking i was taking. but it eventually got better and have not had it since. I hope that is the case for you because the reflux was so painful a couple weeks after surgery that it was driving me crazy

    Pre op diet weight loss

I had a 2 week long liquid only pre-op diet. I lost 9lbs, for a total of 20lbs pre-op. The most immediate goal of the pre-op diet is to reduce your liver size to make for a safe operation, but it sure is nice to see that number go down! Sounds like you're doing a great job!

    August surgery buddies!

We're almost exactly the same starting/current weight but I'm a couple weeks ahead of you. I only weigh once a week for my own mental health but I'm going on 3 weeks at the same weight. It's normal. Just keep doing what you're doing, search for "stall" in posts here, you're doing great! With a lower BMI to start we aren't going to see the type of numbers others will post. I do wonder if you are consuming enough. 300 kcal sounds very low, but your team should be able to advise on it.
  25. I am pre op and will be starting my pre op diet officially in September. (3 weeks with 50 carb limit a day) Just curious about how much, if any, people lost during their pre op diet - and what their plan entailed…. (As of today 8/10/222, i have already lost 61 lbs from my highest weight last year just through changing my lifestyle and dealing with my binging and emotional eating - am excited for every ounce lost that gains my ability to actually live life)
