I had mine 2/28/19, was 225. I got weighed on June 7th at my B12 shot appointment & was at 144. 81 pounds down!
-
I timed my bites with the timer on my watch, and still do (I'm 7.5 months post op). In the earlier months it was about 15 mins minimum between 1-2 bites. Now I do 7-10 minutes between every 4-5 bites. Oh, and put down your fork/spoon/whatever between bites. And in the beginning, eat at the table and not in front of a screen or on the go to get yourself into the habit of slowing down.

I can't stop losing weight
FluffyChix replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
^^^^This a thousand times! I honestly think if you are having this issue, you must treat food as you would a prescription. You will need to be regimented, and determined and disciplined to go on a weight gaining program, but not just any weight--a muscle gaining regimen. And for that you really need a trainer who understands sports medicine and bariatric medicine. Cuz you do face challenges. For instance, are you logging? Do you track every bite that goes in your mouth? If you do, then you at least know a baseline both calorically and from a macro prospective. So you can alter your plan to increase your nutrition. The most obvious ways are NOT to add sugar. That is a recipe for RH. I have it. It sucks. Juice is TERRIBLE for that! But the most obvious way to add back cals and nutrition are to add back your protein drinks as supplements on top of your food. And eat very nutrient dense and calorically dense foods that allow you eat more of them cuz they are hedonic stimulants (lasagna casserole without noodles, casseroles, gooey things with cheese). Also adding in psyllium and miralax have been lifesavers for me... Hope those ideas help. If you are losing, I'd personally up my cals by 10-15% for the day...and get at least 1 meal in that had 30g of protein for that meal, cuz Dr. Longo says that aids in muscle building... -
How much excercise after surgery?
Coleslaw replied to BlueAngelEyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor recommended walking 10 mins of every hour for the first 6 weeks. He will not clear me for exercise until my 6-week appointment. -

I’m leaving instructions/clues to find boxes buried under the tree with photos and memories.

What is most important to weight loss?
Healthy_life2 replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Surgery is not for everyone. It’s ok to be afraid and back out of surgery. If you change your mind down the road, you can start the WLS process over again. Do what’s best for you. What’s more important diet or exercise? Only my opinion…Both diet and exercise are important. Where does your fat go when you lose weight? Many people don’t know…The video below explains. You can’t exercise your way out of a poor diet. 70% diet 20% exercise 10% genes. You can control how you follow your plan. Behavior change, eat less and move more. You can’t control, age, sex, hormones, medical issues, medications, genetics. These factors will control the rate and amount of weight you lose. What should I be counting? Calories or carbs? If you want lose weigh on your own, Why not hire a dietitian to find a sustainable diet plan that works for you. WIshing you the best, Jenn -
6/16 & 6/17: Went to the gym then had real icecream. It was a shared experience so I did feel crazy 😍 Working on actualization of day 10's plan 🏆

Hopefully your band will help with that because you suddenly will find your portion size will get much smaller, you will be on luquids, make the progressi9n back to2ard mo4e solid foods. Is NHS doing this and your time has finally come up? I ask b ecauae in US and Canada without some prework it is doubtful you would receive surgery without showing evidence of pre- work. before mine, I had to lose downnvi had lost 32 pounds, lost 15 in the month before, mine I lost over one of your stone and 8n the Real m9nys since 149, so we'll over 10 stone. e When you get back to solider it will be protein first, veggies next, v fruit much later, that's pretty universal. I am surprised your surgical didn't put you on the MilkvDiet, UK seems gung-ho for it . You will go clear luquids, murky liquids, purees, then thicker and thicker foods. Yo7 may also start on Optifast or other protein shakes. At this late stage, start by cutting out or seriously cu5 back carbohydrates, most if n9t all fast foods, all those lovely things 5hat taste so good but are so bad for you. Start drinking more fluids, at very least try weak unsweetened t3a. Your body will not be very happy with you because your calorie intake will plummet like jumping off the White Cliffs of Dover . Expect dizziness, your or tummy growllingvand complaining g or you will be in a emotional and physical trvail before it's all over. But with strength you can do it! And many of us do wish you well on what you're undertaking.

Dealing with emotional eating etc.

Wow sorry to hear your Dr was so discouraging. Maybe you need s different Dr. One that is more supportive. Regarding managing head hunger, unfortunately I don't have any advice because I still struggle with it 10 mos post-sleeve. It's still so very hard. Right now the sleeve is still helping me from overeating but I still don't always make healthy choices. And after this honeymoon period that's certainly going to have a greater negative impact. I'm not giving up though. Best of luck to you. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
Sheribear68 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Honestly I’m going off of where I was when I was in my 20’s and before the metabolic syndrome really started when I was pregnant with my daughter. I’m 5’7”, have a medium build, and I carry my weight primarily in my hips and legs when I’m not obese and carry it everywhere. In college I was carrying around an extra 10-15 pounds easy when I was weighing 130-135 so it made sense to set my goal for 145-150 being 30 years older. One year I dieted like crazy and was a gym rat and I got down to 120, but that was really difficult to maintain. Here is me at 140 ponds in 1995 at my sisters weddding. I was 26. Would love to get back to within 5-10 pounds of this. -
Personal question.. laxative or dumping syndrome?
Frustr8 replied to shellyk018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know after I took Ducolax pills, got the expected relief, the next day I had very loose stool, pretty full of mucus, almost the same texture I had post-Pancreatitis, and there's A Disease You do not want. It was in 2015 and I still remember It well. I NEVER want it again. I have always been told Kidney Stones are the MOST PAINFUL thing one can have. If Kidney Stones are a 10, pancreatitis is a 9.875, I tear up 💦 at the memory. I believe I would prefer Abdominal Surgery with Novacaine to it any day! I hope my Doctor Needleman doesn't read Bariatric Pal, if he does I'll have another non-sedation, non- anesthesia. Upper Endoscopy like they accidentally did the 26th of last October. If you, like me, have hair in the red/ginger family remind them redheads require more sedation than the average brunette patient. Not something I'm. making up, it is a definate fact , and there are studies to prove it. Lucky for them I didn't panic, most people might. I just laid there and watched everything, Much Better than You-Tube because this was not prestaged, this was the Real Thing and Totally Cool! -
I'm looking for advise to get back on track. It's been about 15 years since my surgery. I'm looking to lose about 10-20 more lbs

Gastric sleeve revision?
mi75 replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not unusual at all! Most of us feel a lot less restriction around the 1 year mark. That's because ALL of the inflammation related to the surgery is finally gone and your sleeve is not impeded by any extra fluid, etc. I wouldn't be overly concerned about 10 lbs, but it might be worthwhile to just log your food, increase your water, etc. If you look at most of the opinions of surgeons, it is normal for almost all bariatric patients to lose dramatically during the 'loss' phase then rebound a bit to the 'healthy weight' spot where they settle in. -
I had rny 3/23/19 and on 3/25/19 ended up having emergency surgery for am intestinal blockage and internal bleeding. I spent 1 week in CCU with plasma infusions, and blood infusions. I'm 3 months out now and I'm ALWAYS afraid! I suffer severe anxiety that there is something wrong with me. I'm crying alot. I have issues sometimes with eating food and I think it's a complication I am afraid of what I've done to myself I'm always like "What if?" I went to a therapist and my Dr. and I was given Wellbutrin but I'm afraid to take that because I don't know what it will do to my pouch. I have no one in my life that has had this surgery that can tell me everything will be okay. And on this forum all I see is horrible things that can happen to me but Im desperately searching for people who can help me feel better about this surgery and have POSITIVE experiences. I've heard that hormones can make you feel like this is that true? SOMEBODY please I know you don't know me but I need help.

How much weight did you lose before people noticed?
Pearldrop replied to Summer56's topic in The Gals' Room
About 30 pounds when closer friends started to notice, about 40 when people I work with started to comment (nicely). I’m less than 10 pounds from goal now and everyone notices☺️ Had a few people introduce themselves to me that I hadn’t seen in years as they didn’t recognise me 😂 -
Having a hard time eating

Hello everyone, I ended up having emergency surgery on 6/14/19. I had a bowel obstruction making it difficult for me to hold solid food down. -
Hello everyone, from what i have seen so far this is a great forum with awesome people offering great advice I had gastric by-pass at the end of April 2019 and have been through the Liquid, Pureed, and Soft food diets (Still on Softwood until i see my surgeon again), i have had an issue twice so far with food getting stuck, once was with steamed fish and another time with Risotto. I chewed my food really well but it still happened those two times and i find it really tender to swallow anything for a few days after it, I know the opening if narrow at the moment but is this because i am am healing or is this the way it is going to be for every?
