grats babygrl  you are doing great! LapBandit, it is not dorky at all, I think it's nice. As for me, I had a bad spell with a pill last night and now today everything hurts to eat, slimed once, no PB's. I think it's liquids for me for a few days. I swell so easy. I am gonna have to get my hubby to pick me up some rtd protien shakes from the store. I do love the atkins shakes. What a time to run out of protein! Anyway, it was hard to even eat yogurt tonight so it's definitely liquids. Does anyone think it's possible I have something lodged in the stoma? I'd think if I did I'd be PB'ing like crazy.

? For those not telling ppl being banded
lml32937 replied to carbgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kept mine a secret until the last minute when my surgery got scheduled. I was on a 2 week mandatory liquid diet and did 1 extra week on my own. I ate a lot of soup, Jello and yogurt with no fruit. It was not that un-normal of food to eat for lunch so not much explanation was needed. But having kept it a secret and now being banded on 4/2/09 I sort of wish I had said something sooner- I lost 16lbs on my pre=op and that put me on a cloud- I just wanted to shout to the world but couldnt cuz i didnt say anything..... That is 1 thing pre-op i would change.... lisa -
Costco sells a high potein drink in chocolate. Not bad for 30 grams. Also try some Greek yogurt, high in protein also!!!!!

How about making a breakfast borrito the night before and in the morning you can nuke it for a miniute and run out the door. 1 small south beach diet tortilla scrambled agg whites / no fat cheddar 2 slices of turkey bacon wrap it in surran and you are ready to go the next morning! Plan ahead! I also like whole oatmeal...just soak it in no fat milk or yogurt overnight in a tupperwear, by morning its tender and yummy, eat it cold or hot...no "cooking" required! -

I enjoy a prepacked non-fat Greek yogurt with fruit already mixed in. Add just a little granola and it's yummy! -

Needing Breakfast ideas

I too need "on the go" breakfasts. I DO NOT eat yogurt. I have tried every brand, flavor and concoction out there and do not like it. So that is a problem. I am so jealous that you guys eat bread like things. I have not tried and am afraid that if it goes down ok, I will have a whole other issue to deal with. eggs don't pack well, not cleared for cereal. I was having 2 laughing cow (light) wedges on melba toast, but that does not have enough Protein or substance, though I like that a lot. Any suggestions will be welcomed! Thanks Hale for letting me tag on your post. -
So I just got a call from the NUT telling me that even though I called last Friday and asked if I could have yogurt that she does not want me to eat yogurt. She said she consulted another NUT and they told her she had given incorrect info. I haven't had a shake since Friday because I was eating yogurt. I have a hard time choking these shakes down. And I feel like I am starving!! I am so bitchy and weak and have like no brain power. I went to the store and forgot all my bags at the check out because I am in a constant fog. My second pre op with my surgeon is Thursday and then I can do soft foods which sounds like heaven. My husband is having his bypass on April 25th and he is eating pizza and mcdonald's and I have to smell it and it makes me want to cry!!! This is my 3rd WLS and it's been the hardest!! My husband has no idea what he is in for!! I did water aerobics last night a whole hour but barely made it through because I feel weak. I am so discouraged and feel really depressed about having to try to get shakes down. My NUT did say I could put in a tbsp of yogurt in and I did that but it still is just gross to me. What about like sf candy to suck on has anyone been approved to do that?

What foods have you broken up with?
lizonaplane replied to Smanky's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was hoping that my tastes would change after surgery, but they really did not, with the exception of french fries/fried potatoes (tried two different types out of curiosity and they just tasted mealy and gross). I enjoy the protein shakes and artificially sweetened yogurt. I haven't had any real sweets yet, so I guess I'm hoping to break up with those. I'm at my parents' house right now and there are some other guests so my mom bought my favorite cake from the fancy French bakery and I didn't try it. I am afraid that I will like it and I won't stop eating sweets. Also, I had a bit of fear of dumping, even though I had the sleeve. I ate a light and fit greek yogurt watching them eat the cake... it was a little sad. -
Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Small update. FOOD: So last night I has some sugar free pudding, since that's on my list, and did fine with it. Today I had some Light Greek, Nonfat Vanilla Yogurt. Had about 4 ounces in about 3 minutes and felt fine. Again I worry about this because yeah, I understand not having restriction with liquids but this? I'd think since there was/is more substance to it it would be different. Hope I'm wrong. CRAVINGS: Strange enough, can't say that I've been too hungry or starving or anything, considering I've only had liquids for like 3 weeks straight now....lol, but at times I do feel hungry. And during those times I find myself craving lots of strange things. Some of it is stuff I don't even eat like steak and liverwurst. Most of my cravings have been about meats and salads. Can't wait to have both!!! SLEEPING: A lil progress. I was able to lay flat and sleep in bed without too much pain and today I woke up feeling even better. I have been icing my stomach regularly for the last two days. Wondering if that's been helping? -
You don't DRINK the vinegar, you hold it in your mouth, then spit it out. lol. Surprisingly, my 10yo dd LOVES that program Nova Science Now! We watch it all the time. Pammie... maybe frozen peas or corn would work the same as the blueberries but not stain? Make a vanilla yogurt/protein powder/frozen blueberry smoothie w/the berries... Work today... got a little burned @ the pool yesterday, esp. my eye lids... weird. It's grey today, calling for thunderstorms, so just as well I've got all this work to do! Enjoy your Friday!

Fabulous February Bandsters Unite!
owhynot replied to tdteach99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has me on a two-week post op diet of either 5 low-sugar milk based Protein shakes per day, OR 3 of those shakes and blended foods such as tuna, chicken, cottage cheese, applesauce, etc. I've been afraid to try the blended foods, even though so far liquids haven't been a problem. I'm going to try and eat more of those soft foods now, since it seems that I am ready. I find it very interesting that when I was only drinking Water and broth I would feel hungry quite often. Since I've been adding Protein powder to drinks, I find that I am not nearly as hungry. Guess that really does make a difference! Tonight I'm going to bust loose with a yogurt, yum!! Thanks to all who are posting here- it's great to connect with folks, and the information sharing has been really helpful for me. keep up the good work, and hang in there until mushies! -
I agree with Jen. I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks with the exceptions of protein shakes, milk and lumpfree yogurt. He said that protein was imperative to proper healing.

:wow2: is all I can say....I've just ben reading the last 3 pages, I cannot belive how much weight some of you have lost already! That is Soooooo encouraging. Lara: you made me laugh so much re: 'I felt like my entire backside must have disappeared somewhere' that sounds great to me....I know what you mean though want it to go from your tummy first though, cos I would too. It does concern me too about balancing work and food, as I work away so much from home, I dont know how Im going to cope, I guess I'll have to nip out to the shops and buy microwavable soup, and yogurts? Also, what is jello? Is it jelly (crystles disovled in water and it sets?) Have a great day everyone!

Hey Marissa. I read in another post that sometimes if you get a pillow and basically be on all fours. Lower your front down on the pillow, you put your butt in the air while on your knees, it supposedly relieves the gas pain as gas rises. I don't know if it works, but another person who posted said it really worked for them. Oh by the way lizrbit, I was banded 2/8 and I am drinking protein shakes (since the hospital), dannon yogurt smoothies (light, I like the strawberry/bannana one), jello, fudgsicles (sugar free, make sure it dissoves to liquid before swallowing), popsicles, V8, and I can have cream or milk based soups (not chunks) that are thinned with water. I was not told any clear liquids after surgery. Doctor wants my energy up he said. He said just to listen to my body and sip. Hope that helps. Luv2blab, I did not have any band around me after surgery. I am starting to feel better today. If you look at some of my other posts I got really emotional. I am actually started to feel good now. I think it was what other people said, the anethesia and pain meds. I was banded on 2/8. I haven't taken pain meds since yesterday morning (day 3). I have tenderness at port area, which I don't know if it is the port or the fact the incision is bigger there than the other ones. I don't even feel the other incisions. Just that one on the side. I was thinking I would write out my experience from check in at the hospital to now to give people an idea of what to expect. I know I wanted to know everything.

Oh Kim I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I would suggest trying gatorade to help with getting your electrolites back and if you find it too strong Water it down....ice or popsicles....it goes down slow but at least you are getting some liquid....juice is good cause then you are getting some sugar....meaning a bit of energy....do not worry about the calories at this time it is all about healing...I ate alot of butternut squash soup...smooth but hearty and yogurt especially greek yogurt....great Protein Gas was bad for me too....however laying in bed is not a great idea....try just walking up and down your stairs every 30 mins....just to get stuff moving....gas x was my best friend during the gas pains. Once it starts moving it will feel better and increase your walking I couldn't do Protein Shakes at all...I had and still sometimes feel naseau....I was told that my surgeon didn't put anything in my band however I had and still have some swelling and restriction....small sips...make sure it goes down then another sip Keep in touch that's what we are here for taylor

I just ate a small prune yogurt (sounds gross but is actually quite DEEELISH) and a small sf pudding. I went to Target and bought these cute little plastic toddler spoons and forks plus some classic pooh plates and bowls and though I haven't been able to use the bowls and plates yet, the small spoons have been great. I feel at this point I am actualy taking a turn for the better. Basically I'm just sore, gasey, itchy and restless. Great combo huh?

The Prune Yogurt we have in Canada is called "Activa". I'd be surprised if you didn't have it in the U.S. Keep checking. It's yummy!

I eat beans, refried beans, Tuna light in water, canned chicken, eggs, cottage cheese. I dont blend anything because I think you are supposed to start chewing but that just my opinion. Greek yogurt is good and has protein, sf pudding. I mix my protein mix with jello instant pudding cups.

Has anyone used Dr. Jaime Ponce DeLeon
julielle replied to armywife77's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Basically it's just no caffeine one week before surgery, and yogurt only for the 3 days before surgery. Not much more to it than that. No laxatives, no 2 week shakes or anything. I guess Dr Ponce figures 3 days is enough to empty the glycogen reserves in the liver, it works for him. If it makes you feel better you can do low carb now until your 3 day yogurt phase. -

Thanks for sharing....I feel good about him...I just really dont see his name to much on here....did they give u post op meal ingo before u left. I only have pre op of 3 days water, yogurt. ..if u dont mind sharing. -
Try Bolthouse Farms yogurt dressing as a mayo substitute. It comes in a lot of flavors and has only 45 calories for 2 tablespoons. It's in the refrigerated section of the produce department.

Why do we develop food intolerances after surgery?
lsereno replied to dansgem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure, but I was very lactose intolerant post op and still have a problem if I have too much milk, ice cream, etc. I was able to eat greek yogurt very early out and at first the only whey Protein that didn't make me sick was unjury. My theory -and it's just my thought really - is that the smaller stomach size and less food in to mix around really highlights any intolerances that might have been there pre-op. Lynda -
Seriously.. What's up with yogurt these days?
cindymg replied to Ms.AntiBand's topic in Rants & Raves
StonyField Organic Greek plain, 0% fat yogurt comes in a 4 pack, with 4 oz containers. It's just the right portion, very filling. I add powdered Fiber, Splenda and a tsp of no sugar added fruit preserves (blueberry is my fav). It's my nightly treat. Beats the heck out of the pint of Ben and Jerry's that used to be my nightly treat. So how come 4 oz of Greek yogurt can fill me up but I can eat 8-9 oz of no sugar added frozen yogurt from a place like Froyo?
