    Great weekend, more NSVs

This past weekend my daughter and I went to camp (she as a camper, me as a counselor). It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. This camp is situated on a small river as well as a couple of man-made lakes. At some point, they built a huge cross on the top of a pretty steep mountain. Now I say mountain because I live in Texas and it's bigger than a hill, but not as big as the mountains in say Colorado. But still high and steep. One of the really cool things they do is offer a hike up this "mountain" to the cross which has a phenominal view of the valley and river below. I really wanted the experience and my DD decided she wanted to go as well. She's only 8 and I wanted to share this experience with her. I was fairly confident I could make the hike as I've been jogging almost everyday for the past month on an incline, but you have to climb up this rock shelf (about 6 feet high) from the river which means it's slick and very smooth from past flooding. There were two big guys standing at the top pulling people up. Now my first thought was "OMG, what if I jerk them off that shelf?" But I figured they both weighed more than me or at least that was what I was praying. Turns out I didn't jerk them into the river and I climbed up just fine. The hike was very steep, muddy, and rocky. I'm only 5'4" and have very short legs. Some of the rock ledges along the trail were up to my chest which means pulling myself up on more than one occasion. I made it to the top, winded, but I made it just the same!! I would not have even tried that a couple of months ago. It would have been something that my DD would have missed out on as well because she wouldn't have gone if I didn't. I said a prayer of thanks at the top for beng able to experience something that was so beautiful. I felt such a sense of accomplishment and I finally felt like I could live my life the way I wanted. I still have a long way to go, but at least I'm trying new things with less fear. I also went down the infamous "Wet Willie". This is a huge slide that you have climb up several flights of stairs to get to and slide down into the lake. I'm terrified of heights, but again my DD wanted me to do it. Once you get to the top you can feel it swaying in the wind and it took all of my power not to panic. There was a very large group from my church and all the adults went up. No way I would have done that before. I had no problems getting into a life jacket and no problems swinging into the slide. Yes, you have to swing from a bar to get into it. I screamed like a girl all the way down!! I probably wouldn't do it again, but at least I can say I've done it once!! I didn't particularly care for the atomic wedgy that I received when I hit the water either. I feel like I'm finally living my life again. I can be the fun person I am and hold my head high because I'm more confident and feel good about myself. That alone was worth having surgery! My journey may be long, but I'll finally get to where I want to be. I feel great and am looking better each day! What an amazing gift I've been given.

    Nsv And New Pants

Yay Libby!!! That's a super NSV! Love it!!
  5. I'm about half way through the tons of pre-op clearance appointments for a December surgery. It's a tough place: both of hope and fears. But... today, I am celebrating baby steps and a few pre-op non-surgery victories. I have 4 kiddos: twins that are 15, a 5 year old, and a 3 year old. All girls. Where's my gold star for that alone? Anyway, I'm currently sharing plates, bowls, and utensils with my toddler. I did not get upset today when I had to have green instead of pink. I cut up her food before I diced mine to pencil-eraser size. I tried not to be jealous of her cute sippy cup sitting next to her plate. Tried. Seriously, not drinking before, during and after a meal is rough! So woot woot for me! Anyone else?

    2 Week Diet Started

I only had to do a 1 day pre-opt diet but realized that I really didn't need to eat all the food that I was eating and had cut my portion sizes down to half. It wasn't easy, but it helped with losing some of my weight. You will be able to have Arby's if you choose later on, but in smaller portions. You will make different choices too, like taking the bread off. The protein is what I want, the bread doesn't taste that good anymore. I have passed my surgeon's goal, but my goal has not been met. But I do love my skinniness now! LOL Your thoughts are messing with you. Don't pay attention to them and switch your thinking to how much more energy you will have and how much more healthy you are going to be. Also, how much fun it will be to go shopping and have an abundance of clothes that are so darn cute, you will have a hard time choosing the cutest ones! The NSV's are great!

    My First Nsv!

IMO the first NSV is always the best... because it's living proof it's working!! Congrats, this is always a really good one too. I agree with ShellBear, be prepared your rings will be fallen off ya soon... be careful more like it. You don't want to lose them.
  8. I know.... Those 2 words don't sound like they should be together but I make it work today!!! My hubby and I were doing the majority of our Christmas baking today, and yes I DID sample the goods. BUT.... I only sampled after I had eaten a meal so sampling was at a minimum. Also, I had a break that was about 25 min long. So instead of going and plopping myself on the couch or at the table, I leashed up the dog and took her for a 20min bike ride ( it was a beautiful crisp day here in Vancouver, Canada!!!) then came back and got tobaking again. Yay me!!! I never would've done that before!!!!
  9. A little less than five months ago, I was 210 pounds. I had a hard time walking around the mall and I never would have entertained the idea of running a 5K. I've been running a few times a week using the couch to 5k app. My physical therapist said that he thought I could do way more than I was using that app. So today, I decided to do it. I went down and ran 17 laps non-stop on the indoor track in 32:33. It is amazing what your body can accomplish!! Next stop, 10K!!! Best wishes everyone!
  10. What a great NSV and morale booster. Keep up the excellent work.
  11. I am almost 5 weeks post op. The scale hasn't moved for me since my 2nd week out. Luckily with pre-diet and a week post op I lost 30 lbs. This week I wore a pair of jeans and all day I was tugging and pulling them up! I came home and wiggled my hips and they fell to the floor. I couldn't believe it. Today I wore a pair of khaki capri pants. Once again I was pulling them up ALL DAY! I came home again and wiggled my hips and to the floor they fell!! I showed my husband my new trick both times. It is pretty funny. Not ready to buy new clothes yet, so I guess it is time to invest in a belt! My family likes to tease me with the song, "Pants on the ground, pants on the ground. Looking like a fool with your pants on the ground!" Tracy

Nsv That I Still Can't Believe

That is by far the BEST NSV I have ever heard!! (and I have read some really good ones!) That is one that will have you feeling good for days to come! Congratulations on running your first 5K! That alone is huge, but having your teenage son say he is proud of you....PRICELESS!!
  19. For whatever reason I was scared to try on the other clothes sitting in my closet. I have been walking around in these size 20 jeans that were literally falling right off my body. I kept thinking there was NO way the other clothes would fit yet and I didn't want to be disappointed in trying them on and it not working out. So yesterday I looked in the closet and I finally gave in and decided to try on a pair of size 18 jeans that haven't fit me in quite some time, thinking maybe I could finally button them up. Um yeah, they were falling off too! Tried another pair today that were not a true 18, more like a 16 and guess what! THEY FIT! So I went to the thrift store today to look for some Church clothes and found a really pretty size 14/16 lacy skirt/shirt combo, thinking no way would it fit for at least another month and I was a little nervous because of the type of material thinking it would cling too much to my body but for $5 I couldn't pass it up. Well I tried it on and it fit too! It has been YEARS since I could fit in a size 16 anything and I have no idea how long its been since I could fit a 14 or smaller. I'm just shocked. AND my husband who is not one to give compliments keeps telling me how small I am getting when he hugs me. LOVE hearing that. I've had so many friend from Church comment on me wasting away, it makes all the complications seem not near as bad as they were last week I'm already over half way to my goal and only 7 weeks out. I cannot believe how quickly its gone and how much my body has changed. Wish I could figure out how to get my pics smaller to post my beginning pics and my new pics. Hopefully soon I will figure it out. I am loving these NSVs way more than the scale victories that is for sure. edit-Pictures are a few posts down

My NSV - Missed my window!

Congrats to all ! Love the nsv stories !! Besides cleaning out the closet of too big clothes, my favorite one was trying on a pair of size 12 -14 jeans at home, but could nt get them buttoned or zipped... about 4 weeks later, they fit very comfortably ! I remember yelling for my husband, jumping up and down , saying over and over, " they fit ! they fit ! they fit !!!!!" He must of thought I was looney tunes..........

My NSV - Missed my window!

^5s One of my fav NSVs are phone calls from charities looking for old clothes. I used to never give up my old clothes as I thought there would come a day I might be able to wear them again. Now, it's, "sure, come on down, I'll put a bag on the porch". I have no problem giving away my old baggy shirts and pants(same ones I refused to give away 3 years ago). Never want to go back there again.
  24. I forgot to tell you guys that I had my 1st NSV on my surgery day! Along time ago I was watching Dr. 90210 and Dr. Li cut out this small tattoo from this lady while she was under for her boob job and a light bulb went off in my head! B/C along long long long time ago I decided it would be cool to get a tatoo. Well, it's never a good idea to let a 16 year old punk guy with a needle tatoo you but we all know I've grown up since then! So, anyways, long story short - I had the "blob" cut out of my leg while I was getting my band, and I didn't feel a thing! I saved hundreds of dollars on laser treatment AND I won't be embarrassed to wear short shorts when I lose my weight b/c I won't have the "blob" and what's one more tiny scar anyways? Noone will even notice when I look all hot in a bathing suit next summer b/c I'll no longer have the weight or the stupid tattoo!!!
