    From the album: Before Surgery

  2. I was just curious if anyone else is working out/exercising during all of their pre-op diets and hoops that have to be jumped through. And if you do, what is your routine like? Currently, I try to make it to the gym 4-5 days a week. Usually 40 minutes of cardio, and then I switch it up strength training wise. One day upper body, one day core, one day lower, one day whole body, plus a 30 day squat challenge I started on the first. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Medifast Day 1

Today is the first day of Medifast. I have had 3 meals so far. Im not sure you could call them 'meals' It is almost 4 and I have a headache and I am really tired. I am probably going through withdrawl. It is about 80 degrees outside so I think I am going to take a nap under my open window. 13 more days to go. I was told it all gets better by the 3rd day. I am crossing my fingers.

    Medifast Day 1

Insane is right! I am sure your Optifast is similar. I am on day 4 now and I am not as hungry as I was. I heard of sugeons cancelling the procedure if the plan is not followed. I did not come this far to cheat. So yes...insane is right! I cant believe you have to do a month! I would think by this point doctors would be more consitant with each other. I read about so many different pre op diets. The first 3 days were the worst. We can make it though!

    One year out

I've heard/read that the average is 50 to 60 lbs./year. Or 1-2 lbs. per week. Could be a lot more--or a lot less depending on a lot of different factors.
  6. I used to have Gastric reflux atleast once a week. I also had a very high blood sugar. Before the Pre-op diet, My sugar had gone as high as 250 in the morning. When i first started the liquid diet (12 days before the surgery) my sugar was 167. I had my surgery on May 12th. And now my sugar in the morning range anywhere from76-100. I'm hoping that when i go in to see my regular doc she will agree that my diabetes is going into remission... Also, I had PCOS (irregular periods). Before last month, I missed my period for 9 months. Maybe it's a coincidence, but this is now the second consecutive months that i'm having my period.... So... my health totally improved! I love it!
  7. Just thouht I would go ahead and register here and say hello. I see LOTS of people here who I have gotten to know (passively or actively) on other boards. I am always looking for good ideas and to share the journey with others. I was banded by Dr Johnell in Colorado on 11/4/04. I have lost 30 pounds, but most of that was immediately post surgery. Since then, I have lost about 1 pound a week for the last couple of months. I have had 4 fills, and am at about 1.7 as it was measured, and I am really just getting used to having restriction.
  8. Good for you for being so close to goal! You and I are close to the same weight (I'm 3 pounds more) so I appreciate how hard the last little bit is. I have been stuck between 166-168 for almost 3 weeks and it's driving me crazy. Just this week I increased my exercise and decreased my calories, so hopefully that will do the trick. Your list of goals sounds great- good luck- you can do this!

    Stuck

My first week I lost 10 pounds then the other 2 weeks I lost 1-2 pounds each week. Don't weight yourself so much, try once a week. And remember, you may not be losing pounds because you are gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat) and losing inches. You're doing fine as long as you keep up with the post-op diet and exercise. + Pounds Already?

Hi. I was sleeved June 8. I was down (pre-and post-op) from 310 to 282. Then the last 3 days I've gained weight. Now I'm 286. I have my one week follow up appointment today, but should I be concerned about weight gain? I'm following their instructions and diet... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight loss?

#1 I know your meals sound just fine and cals presumably low, but I would love to see the caloric breakdown. #2 You admitted you were less active. Remember, wl= calories in - calories burned. If your calories in is constant and you decreased cals burned than expect less wl or even a gain. #3 Being back to work as an RN can be taxing. Fatigue unto itself burns calories. Don't overlook the possibility you may indeed be more active than you realize and require more calories. Again, back to #1 what are you currently intaking? With the above info we can better discern which correction is more likely necessary. However, I do want to iterate that losing more than 2 lbs per week is not the goal. I always tell people that setting sensible expectations makes this journey more rewarding. Setting yourself up with insensible goals that cannot be maintained will only reinforce feelings of failure. SLOW and steady!

    Weight loss?

Thank you all. I am SO GRATEFUL I've lost 1-2 this week. I just wanted to make sure that's ok. I can probably guarantee I am grossly under cals. I take it at most 800 a day which is a gross over estimate. I don't get anywhere close to the 50-60g of Protein with what I'm eating. My md doesn't want me drinking Protein shakes because they are "liquid calories". Also my nutritionist first want me focusing on cal right now since I'm grossly below. She said to more focus on that when I'm eating and have adjusted post op. I try so hard to eat more protein but I'm full and do not want to push it. So I stop when I'm "done" and not "full". The process begins. This months goal, focus a million x's more on working out beyond work hustle and bustle and my volleyball league. It's a marathon and I'm excited for it.
  13. I am able to eat scrambled eggs and mash potatoes one week post-op. They said as long as tolerated. I am not a week post -op yet. I must be swollen still because i do feel restriction. I can also have cream of wheat and yogurt. You should be fine.

    Tired

I have been tired tired tired for about a week and a half to two weeks. Hardly able to keep my eyes open, kind of tired. Surgery date was Dec 28. I began taking B-12 on January 28, the sub lingual, quick dissolve pills 5000mcg Natures' Bounty brand. I'm not sure that the B-12 has anything to do with my lack of energy or not. I went from power walking religiously nearly every day and going to the gym 3-4 days a week and hitting the weights, to not having the energy or will power to do the power walks. I'm still hitting the gym 3-4 times a week, but it is a real struggle. With the amount of protein I take in each day, it looks like I would have energy to spare. What gives? Just my body going through all the changes in relatively rapid order? Or should I try B-12 monthly injections instead of the OTC pills?

Holy Crap! Nsv's 1 Week Post Op!

I was wondering how you are doing a week out? Have you had any complications?

    Depressed

My doctor has not given me a fill in 3 months. I have some restriction, but the weight is not coming off. I stop eating when I get full . I had my band unfilled last February and it has been downward from there. I'm feeling really defeated with this whole process. Now she wants me to keep a food journal. It's very frustrating.
  17. They are so correct....try everything you can to stay away from carbs..you want stay full long at all and that will just cause the grazing. A fill shouldn't be done until you are at lease 6 weeks out. So hang in there. Get some yogurt and add some unflavored protien...you will be suprised how long that keeps you full. Hang in there...

    by-pass or lapband?

absolutely no problem deciding, zip, nada, no. Bypass has never been an option. Too many complications. Plus, I'm not on the higher end of the weight scale. 37 BMI but lots of medical issues. Plus my daughter has had and her best friend had bypass. World of difference, Plus being off work 6 weeks was not an option. Trisha

    pre op weight loss

Three pounds is still 3 pounds, congratulations. I lost about 6 or 7 during my 2 week liver cleanse. The purpose of the cleanse is to shrink your liver so that they can put the band on without having complications.

    Stomach Exercises?

your stomach isn't a muscle so that shouldn't be a concern. You're about 3 months out - check with your surgeon to make sure you don't have any restrictions. I'm restriction-free at the 6 week point.
  23. I'm on the slower side too. I only had a 33lb loss at end of 2nd month. But I'm really happy with the way things are progressing. I know I'll get to goal sooner or later. I know it can be frustrating during longer stalls, but that is mostly when I shed inches faster. So that works well for me too LOL! You're doing great! Dont worry!

    so fed up right now

I'm sorry too! I think it's ridiculous...if we could loose weight on our own, we wouldn't NEED the surgery!! I'm glad I wasn't required to try! Heck...I couldn't have even survived to liquid diet the week before surgery most sleeves were required to do! Good luck & keep fighting!
  25. I lost 50 lbs in the first 3 months. I started at 300 and I am 6ft tall. I'm 4.5 months out now and down 73 lbs. Good luck to you.
