    Where is your saggy skin?

My arms!! Oh my gosh! They are very bad. It's not just the flappy underarm thing, but also skin that looks like I am 100 years old!! So many things make us all different when it come to where we sag. For me : I have only been pregnant one time in my life and I was 16-17 years old. I only gained 19 pounds and carried my baby 9 1/2 months. I hardly looked pregnant. I weighed in at 160 pounds the day I delivered. I am 5'7" tall. My baby is now 28 1/2 years old I am 46 and have lost 111 pounds. I have done more than my share of tanning in my life and am now paying the price for all thet sun damage. My skin does not spring back like other bandster's skin might. I'm not sure I will ever have plastic surgery. I am just enjoying the weightloss and a new skinny life!

    4/1/10 Happy Bandiversary Bunnies!

WOW what a year we've all had! Can you believe this is our Bandiversary month already? Remember all the nightmares of insurance approval, and no sleep the night before LB surgery because we were so excited; It was almost heaven taking that first shower after surgery! We had some work to do, learning how not to be a couch potato anymore. Then we had to learn how to eat right. and prepare healthy food; but pretty soon we were losing weight and had to buy new clothes; Sure there were a few unpleasent changes, like bathroom schedules; but also nice ones, like being able to wear a bathing suit again; Happy Bandiversary Bunnies! It's going to be one wild party; and watch out for all the candy at Easter!
  3. So, some of you already know, I will have been banded for a year on August 15. In that time, I've lost 100 pounds, and can hardly believe it. It is taking a long time for me to recognize certain victories, but I can say for certain that today was one of the best ones. I had to go to a wedding, and the dress I was planning on wearing ended up being way too big. I didn't know, until I attempted to get dressed, and started to freak out because I had nothing to wear. I called my mom, ran to her house, raided her closet and while holding my breath attempted to wear one of hers. Well, this formally size 24, was able to wear her mother's size 10! That's me, the blonde on the right, in my moms dress!!

    Barker bariatrics dallas texas

My co-worker used Dr. Barker ( 2/10/14 surgery date)... I had the same surgery date... but used Dr. Alexander. If your surgery is going to be done at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas... I can tell you that the facility is state of the art and the staff was EXCEPTIONAL! Every one was very professional and took their job very seriously. From the cleaning staff to the surgeons that assisted Dr. Alexander with my surgery. If you are having your surgery done there... you will be in great hands ( in my opinion). My co-worker was/is very satisfied with Dr. Barker and has since referred a few other co-workers to him as well. I went with Dr. Alexander because he specializes in revisions ( i had gastric bypass revised to gastric sleeve).
  5. I will be banded on April 10. I am on a 7 day Pre-OP High Protein Diet. Anxious and Excited!!
  6. I took 5 days off. I was still weak and tired from taking in so few nutrients. The soreness at my incisions was manageable. I didn't really start feeling "normal" again until about 10 day post-op and was still crashed out on the couch watching a Lost marathon 3 days post-op....would have hated to think I had to go back to work then.

    Any April's out there?

My date is 4/10 and I'm getting very excited. Dr Snyder (Denver) only requires a 2 day liquid preop. So not to bad. Insurance took forever and then my date got cancelled twice in March because the Doc was going to be out of town. That was really frustrating but since I don't have a great medical history probably a good thing. Good luck to all of you. Yeah april avengers!!!!!
  8. My first meeting with my surgeon was 10/2 ; my surgery date is 12/2. I had about a month between my seminar and the meeting with my surgeon, so I got as many appointments out of the way during that time as I could.

Lose And Loose Are Two Completely Different Words

Hehe, it's not all it sounds to be. For starters I didn't pop out offspring until I was 32. That left a LOT of free time, with a job that paid tuition... and not much else to do. And let's see... I started undergraduate studies in 1993 and didn't wrap up the undergraduate until 2002. I had lots of time back then. BIS, BA English Lit, BA Philosophy <- easy, had some sharable credits, and basically qualifies me to be a barista at Starbucks because, you know, none of the big philosophy companies are hiring. MS #1 <- pre-kid MS #2 <- finished my last class about a week before I went into labor I've putzed around with enrolling in a PhD program, mostly just so I can call myself "Doctor." I expect it would take me about 10 yrs.

    Pre-op Diet

I am doing the preop diet now and will be banded on Monday. I only had to be on it for 10 days prior to the surgery. My diet constist of anything liquid, cream soups that are smoth and at least 50 grams of protein a day.
  12. I too have had back surgery and a lot of other surgeries. I cannot exercise. I had lap band surgery at the end of Feb. 2014. Lost 82 lbs in under 10 months. Would I do it again? In a heart beat. I watch what I eat very closely. No junk. Only healthy food without going crazy. Only downside, accepting that I am skinny. First time in my life. I tell everyone that I had lap band surgery as I am proud for what I accomplished.
  13. I have read oodles of post here searching for the information that will set my mind at ease. I've been looking for the answer that "everything will be alright". That the my decision in going to Mexico to get a Surgery that will make my 19 years of obesity a thing of the past. My biggest dwelling point is whether am I picking the right Surgical team. I have looked up all the information I can find -which is not a great deal- about Dr. Osuna at Specialized Beriatrics. Does anyone have any experience with Dr Osuna? I will be sure to post a long and detailed account of my experience with her, because I want to be around for a long, Long time. Also because I want you to know that I made it ( : Please if you have any advice about her, her team, and any suggestions on how to settle down and let go of all the anxiety let me know. 14. Did you see Dr Shillingford? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App Sorry I'm still trying to figure out how to reply to people. Yes, Dr Shillingford did my surgery on 10-24. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App I have a consultation in Orlando on Nov 10, but if too high (I think they charge ~15k), I may go to Boca Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App I can only speak for my experience with Dr Shillingford and his office but they did everything to make my life easier. I had an initial phone consult with Nancy and she schedule a phone consult with Dr Shillingford. I did my two week pre op diet and the Friday before my surgery I went down and had an appointment with the Dr just to meet him and his staff and go over any questions/concerns I had. I went and did my pre op lab work the same day and then on Monday I had my surgery. They made it very convenient to only have to drive down once. His staff Nancy and Elba are amazing. I can email them and I know I'll get an answer within a few hours. They are super kind and knowledgeable. Also depending on if you go down on the right weekend. A woman from the hospital does a seminar on Saturdays. She goes over everything to expect. Unfortunately I went on a weekend that she didn't have class... the great thing is that she came to my hospital room and sat down with my husband and myself and went over everything. The hospital is good. The bariatric staff was really nice and took really good care of me. Bariatric patients have their own wing and everyone gets their own room. Also visiting hours are 24/7 so if someone is accompanying you, they can stay in the hospital with you and you don't have to pay for a room at a hotel if your budget conscious. Anyway that's enough ranting for now. If you have any questions please message me, I'm most certainly happy to talk with you about the Dr and what to expect with him! Nov 14 Sleevers?

I had my revision surgery on 11-14-2012 after surgery they told me the band removal went fine and they were able to repair a hiatal hernia , that was a surprise to them ( and me ) and sleeve me in one procedure. I was SO relieved to have had it done in once procedure. The day after surgery I started throwing up Water and unable to keep it down . After a couple more tried they ordered an EGD for me . They told me if the scope went through easily then and showed no obstructions I should be fine and not need another surgery , but if it did not I could have excess scar tissue from the band and I could need another surgery . WHAT !! Yikes . So they did it and it showed no obstruction some swelling around the band area ( where the band was ) they told me to take liquids slow . For several days I was still throwing up just water, in fact it freaked me out because it looked like I was throwing up some blood as well. Finally around day 3 or so the water was staying down . So finally I was able to go home today . NOT an easy process that's for sure , but I am glad its over. The doc told me to progress my liquids slowly , as long as I was keeping liquids down I was fine , the minute i started if i did throwing up liquids I needed to come back . But to just take it slow . Now 10 days out and I hae had a few instances of throwing up since i got home. But I just back track and go on Clear Liquids again and It gets better. Since I was unable to eat prior to surgery due to my band i sometimes wonder if I will ever be able to eat solids again , but this HAS to be better than the band and the pain and issues i had with them .

    4cc band, perfect fill?

I have a 4 cc band with 1.9 in it, and I am generally a bit too tight, and will get stuck or occasionally pba couple times a week. My husband has a 10 cc band with 7 cc in it, and he can eat three times as much as I can and has never pb'd. We were banded the same day.
  17. I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be no, but thought I'd ask anyway. Due to delays by the psych office in faxing over my report, and then the surgeon's office in submitting to insurance, my surgery has been delayed until mid-June at least. I am supposed to go visit my sister at the end of June, and due to a job change and other factors, there is no other time for that visit this summer. Long story but I really do have to go visit her. We will be driving and it's about 12 hours in the car. If I stop every hour to walk around is this even do-able at all? Always assuming there are no surgical complications of course. Otherwise, I have to delay surgery until September. I know that's the most responsible thing to do, but I was so counting on getting started losing weight this summer, not spending another summer miserably hot and sweaty due to chafing, and not having the energy to do much outside. I cannot afford to fly (my kids are going too). I may have to do all the driving, or my oldest son might come along and split it with me, but either way I would stop hourly to prevent any clots.

    Coumadin and Lovenox

Hi, I was diagnosed with PE in 8/07 after a few years of birth control pills. Luckily I ALSO had kidney stones which is what drove me to the ER and after the stone had passed and I should have been feeling better, I wasn't and they decided to do a ct scan AND found the clots in both my lungs and discovered a DVT in my right leg. So I am lucky to be here today as this can be fatal:ohmy:. I was on coumedin for 6 months and they did blood work to determine iF I had a blood clotting disorder. That was proved negative so it has been determined that the clots were caused by the birth control pills. I was banded on 8/29/08 and the only condition that my hematologist and pulmonologist required were that I have the IVC Filter placed in before the surgery as a precaution. So on 8/28 they put in the filter and then the banding was done on 8/29 and then the filter was removed on 10/13/08. I was on Lovenox for 2 weeks then continued with Coumedin up until 10/6/08. I have been lucky not to have any other occurences. Being on coumedin for life is no fun!!! Miss Nikkie

    Where is the Sweet Spot?

I definitely can relate! If I am eating white meat chicken, hard boiled eggs, or even scrambled eggs, my upper pouch can get painfully full after just a few bites, while my "bottom" stomach is still starving. They say this doesn't happen because the "I-am-full" receptors are supposed to be in the upper stomach. For me, that is NOT the case. Because of the restriction I have, I do think I am at my sweet spot(6 ml in a 10 ml band). It is kind of a catch 22. Ground beef goes down much easier than chicken, but is not as healthy. So I have to use a LOT of willpower when eating foods that go down easy-and I don't mean ice cream, which I avoid like the plague. I am talking about foods like chili-pie, tuna salad, egg salad etc. I have a sort of love-hate relationship with my band. I hate how I feel when I eat one bite too many, but I love the fact that it is there to keep me in line. It was either the band or having someone slap my face every time I ate too much. And the band is much more socially acceptable than having Guido monitor my food intake!
  22. I am told 1) it will shrink my liver and 2) I did not really loose the required weight before surgery. But mostly I guess it shrinks your liver and is better for surgery. I can drink Protien drinks i am going with Designer Whey with 100 Calories and 18g of protien. So I can drink more in a day. I plan on drink 5 so that will get me to 500 calories and 90g of protien. Inbetween I plan on fat free jello which is 10 calories per box and probably going to pick up some fat free popsicles. I am really not look fawrd to it but I am going to do this.. It is my first of many goals in my life and it starts with this clear liquid diet I need to do!!! As I type this it is now early Thanksgiving morning and Thanksgiving is my last big meal I plan on having. hahaha I have sleep apnea and I want off my cpap machine. I can not sleep with out that thing. I have to bring it with me if i want to sleep other then home. If the power goes out in the middle of the night I can not sleep at all with out. I try to lay down and take a nap I feel like I can not breath.. I don't like the way I look I hate my neck and other parts of my body. I need to do this for myself but more importantly I need to do this for my 15 yr old daughter. I want to be around for her longer then I am going to be if I continue down this road i am on. The surgery part scares me to death, like I said I have never had surgery before for anything. I like the fact that there are others out here that have the same date as me.. Its like we can start this new life together and have each other to talk to about things and how each otehr is doing. Mel I will add her right now
  23. I am scheduled for the 17th, and I am getting more nervous as days go on. I've had surgeries but nothing this major. I start my pre-op diet on the 7th (10 days). Not to freak you out (actually this still freaks me out!) but the other night I actually woke up in a nightmare choking, thinking that I already had the surgery and had some kind of obstruction from it and couldn't breathe... It's weird, because I know this is something I chose to do and not an immediate life or death surgery. In the end I keep telling myself it WILL be life or death if I don't get the weight off.... regardless the anxiety is setting in bigtime as the days pass and the date comes closer. I am going to ask my primary if he can give me some anxiety relief meds when I see him in two weeks.

    Exhausted

Sleeved 10/24. For the most part I am doing okay but I am having trouble getting my sleep in sync. I seem to need to be in bed by 9:30, and I keep waking up at 4:45-5. I know, go to bed later…except that I literally CAN'T. My PA told me yesterday that when I get back to my exercise routine (CrossFit) the energy will come back and it will be easier to sleep. I hope so. I keep thinking I will just take a nap in the middle of the day but then I forget to. Oh well.
