    Blah...my first stall...

Ah yes, the infamous 3 week stall. I started just thinking of my body 're calibrating' and moving a smidge of fat from here to here, and moving more energy over there. I found that helped a lot with the mental energy worrying about the stall, thinking I had done something wrong, being catastrophic about it etc lol. I am a just over a year out...and I spend most of the month stalled lol then I lose. So I just think of my body needing a minute to figure out what to do next and get organized and it halts ALL PRODUCTION until it sorts itself out again and starts losing. Hope that helps!

    Blah...my first stall...

Yeah, everyone defines a stall differently. Personally I use at least “1 week of consecutive days of non-weight-nor-inches loss” as a definition. I mean, I could drop a good 2 lbs with a nice poop (i pooped every 3-4 days - sometimes even longer than that - back in weight loss phase, so that made sense) …and yes, I used to weigh myself before and after poops cuz it was fun for me 😂) What some people consider stalls, others call daily fluctuations. But however you define it, just keep on trucking, and aim to keep the anxiety at bay. Remember: stress (i.e., cortisol) has a positive correlation to weight gain (i.e., increased hunger and over-eating) Good Luck! ❤️

    Different diets

Differs from surgeon to surgeon, you should follow your surgeons plan. For example; @liveaboard15 shares he was on soft foods, but at 14 days I was JUST starting pureed foods. My plan was 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft foods and then gradually back to a normal healthy diet. I have seen so many different alternatives though, I know someone who had sleeve and was on a liquid diet for 6 weeks!! Talk about harsh.

    Blah...my first stall...

Well given that I was consistently losing 2-4 pounds a day and for 3 days I wasn't losing at all and ended up gaining, it seems like it's the beginning of a stall. I'm not going to be weighing myself much now that it's started.

    Blah...my first stall...

I've not lost any more weight since my first weight in at my drs on May 5th. It's hard to knowing most people lost their weight in the first few months after surgery. And here I am at a stall this soon. It's crazy how our bodies are so different to the surgery.

    Blah...my first stall...

2 days ? is that really considered a stall? now I am guilty of this too but really you should only be weighing once a week then you wouldn't see these "stalls". Personally I don't class anything less than 4 weeks a stall but that's just me.

    Blah...my first stall...

I will I'm actually trying to look on the bright side of it. If my body needs a break, I must be doing something right then. Even if the stall has nothing to do with that, I'm gonna let my brain think it so I feel better about not losing right now lol Yes, I play mind games with myself LOL

How long were you off work after surgery?

6 weeks. Took full advantage of my Short term disability but I know not everyone has that luxury. I spent it preparing for the change in habits mentally. I work from home but it’s mentally exhausting sometimes Long hours.

    Blah...my first stall...

We call it the 3 week stall but it can occur earlier or later. Think of it as your body needing to take a breath. It’s been going through a lot. It’s like your body shutting the door & pulling the covers over its head just like you might like to do when stressed or anxious. And yes, just stick to your plan, let your body do what it needs to do & you’ll start to lose again. Just remember it may take 1-3 weeks.

    Blah...my first stall...

I saw that I hadn't lost anything in 2 days, and then on day 3 I gained a pound and said "yep, it's a stall. Time to stay off the scale for a while".

    Blah...my first stall...

I'm constantly stalling. As long as it picks up again and the general trend over time is downward it's not a big deal.

    May 2022 Surgery Buddies

How is everyone doing, I am 12 days post op, feeling good, getting the hang of not drinking immediately after eating, and down 37 lbs from highest weight. If I hadn’t worn jean shorts and left two middle incisions uncovered things would be even better. I irritated those two incisions and have to use triple antibiotic and keep them covered for a week. I will Definately cover them from now on!! 🤷🏼‍♀️
  15. I had RNY to RNY revision surgery on 12/21/21. I thought I was fine, slowly recovering, until 10 days later when I started coughing up blood. I was airlifted back to the surgical hospital with a perforated jejunum at the anastomosis and SEPSIS. I had emergency surgery and was close to death for several days. I was in the hospital for 7 weeks and in a rehab facility for 3 weeks. I was discharged with a 15 cm long open surgical wound which is still not entirely healed 3 months later (but getting close). I resumed normal activities after returning home and have no pain from the open surgical wound. I have volunteer nurses who come to my home to do dressing changes, now every other day. Because of three necessary endoscopic procedures looking for leaks or abscesses my anastomosis is stretched and I have no more restriction than I had before the revision surgery. I had lost 70 lbs prior to surgery by cutting out all sugar, flour, rice, white potatoes, processed food. I've lost 25 more since the revision. I've been told to get 90 mg protein daily and to limit my calories to 800--which is VERY difficult. To add insult to injury I'm starting to lose my hair, too. I'm really struggling with cravings in the afternoon and night. We are now considering a prescription for CONTRAVE. Do I have regrets for having the revision surgery? Of course! I wish I had left it alone. I wish my surgeon had aborted the revision when he found I had dense adhesions. However, I'm well now and am approaching a 100 lb weight loss.

    Blah...my first stall...

Oh my gosh. I thought I might be the only one that stalled at 2 week. How long before you started losing again?
  17. I’m sorry they are giving you difficulty.. I was approved about 2 weeks ago and my surgery is 6/8. I hope you get your approval soon.

    Blah...my first stall...

Yup. I got into my first stall at week 2. It sucked. It lasted about 2 weeks. But since then i have lost 6lb since my last weigh last week. So i am out of the stall. Just ride it out and soon enough it will pass
  19. I knew it was coming and yet it still bothers me. Now that my weight hasn't gone down (and I actually gained a pound) in the last 2 days, I'm going to not weigh myself for at least a week. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, keep exercising, keep watching what I eat, and try not to think about it too much. It's not easy, because of course it bothers me that my progress is stopping, but I can't let it get my anxiety going. So....fun times....

    6 weeks post op depressed

Your hormones are out of whack post surgery. Things should begin to feel more normal again soon. If the depression is too much to deal with, you may consider reaching out to your teams therapist. 17 pounds in 6 weeks is a pretty good loss. That’s almost 3 pounds a week.
  21. Can anyone give me some encouragement that I will find happiness in life again? I feel so blah at the moment and I can’t find joy anywhere in my life. Has anyone experienced this? I am usually the positive person in the world and my personality has completely changed. Please give me some insight that this will change. I’ve only lost 17 lbs on top of it all.

    May 2022 surgery?

My surgery was on a Friday and I took off through Tuesday and then began working from home yesterday and intend to continue working from home until May 30. After that I have to start going to the office 3 days per week, but that shouldn't be a problem since I will at least be on soft food by then.

    June Surgery Date

I've already kind of started with soft food only and liquids for breakfast and lunch. A d I definitely am getting in 64 ounces of water or more a day. I was already planning g on doing liquid for at least 1 week before my surgery date. So I think I'll be ok (hopefully). My main concern is that even though I'm walking and dieting, I'm still going up and down on my weight. 1 day I'll be at 244 the next day I'm back up to 250. It's just frustrating.
