Happy Birthday!! Personally, I think you should probably wait a bit longer, but I also don't think a few sips will hurt you. I had a glass of wine at about two and a half weeks out. Most people would have screamed at me if they knew. I'm not a drinker by any means (have only had alcohol one other time since being sleeved), but it was a special occasion and I wanted to have a little bit. It didn't hurt me. But, be aware that it can't be good to have alcohol this early out, so if you do please please please limit it to a very small quantity. Whatever you decide, enjoy your birthday!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe lortab has 7% alcohol. However, the 500mg acetaminophen is super harsh on your liver as it is. Combining that with the 7% alcohol content is really putting a lot of pressure on your liver. Given that a lot of people are drink lortab multiple times a day, you don't want to add anything extra that would stress your liver out even more

I would avoid so early out. Let your body heal & get to grips with your new stomach before you test it with alcohol xx Happy birthday x

I'm with everyone above; it would be a really bad idea. Your surgeon told you no alcohol for a reason - he wasn't doing it just to deprive you, he was doing it because his years of medical expertise has taught him that patients should not do it until a certain time frame has elapsed. Unless you are a doctor yourself in this specialty, I would take your surgeon's word on this one and not drink.. Happy 21st though!

I don't want to sound like an ass- but I'm going to. Or everyone who is so concerned with consuming alcohol so soon after surgery I want you to take a good hard look and the label on your liquid Lortab. It's 14 proof. Not going to say that anyone should go out drinking but please spare me the dramatics of pouring alcohol on an open wound.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. You have plenty of life time to have those "legal" drinks of alcohol. Just wait 3 months and see how you feel. It is not worth it!

Imagine the pain when you clean a wound with alcohol, then imagine that pain going down the entire length of your freshly wounded tummy... If you still want a drink after that, it's your decision.

Can you have a sip or 2 of alchol 1 week post op. Today is my 21 birthday and just wondering

B-12 Deficiency/anemia? Injections best method?
sirensiren posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The story: Last August, on a camping trip that consisted of many days of drinking, myself and my fellow VSGed friend both had weeks of vertigo/equilibrium issues that were accompanied by confusion. The vertigo seemed to subside, so I stopped concerning myself, then whenever I'd drink aout 24 hours later the weird sensation of vertigo showed up again! Same for her! It's resurged this month, alcohol or no alcohol, and after finally doing some reading I suspect it's likely we are both anemic. Alcohol can deplete B-12, so i made sense to me that drinking was making the issue far worse. I started taking B-12 under the tongue 4 days ago, with minimal results. I started with a normal dose, then upped it to 4x the regular dose. Still dizzy. My question to anyone who experienced this before- is this common, to get little absorption through the under-the-tongue method? Are injections the only way to go for us VSGers? I am in part concerned because it's still a mystery if I am in fact B-12 deficient. I do not have health insurance, and seeing a doctor, particularly a neurologist, is going to be extremely expensive! I am going into a clinic for B-12 injections today, so hopefully this helps. I am also now supplementing with Iron. I am scared. I am generally full of energy, clear headed, conversational..but the past month I've been experiencing waves of depersonalization and disinterest due to this. I really hope to get some answers and feedback. -
Steri strip residue

You can find it in the aisle where they sell alcohol. If you cant find it then ask the pharmacist they will direct you. It might be about 4 bucks a box but it stays good for a long time before it expires. -
ADVICE ON SELF ESTEEM? Day 13 of Pre Op Diet, 2 Days til Surgery
phdizzle posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy to report I made it through my big holiday party without cheating once. I drank crystal lite throughout and half way through I snuck to the kitchen for half a Protein shake. I think some people caught on to my alcohol free night and suspected pregnancy - but who cares. In other news I'm on day 13 of pre-op and a little disappointed with my weight loss so far. I feel like I eat nothing and should be losing more. Ill have to readjust my expectations I guess. My big meatball if you will is my self esteem. Even though I've lost 10 lbs so far, looking at my pictures from my holiday party makes me feel so gross. And low self esteem is not really helping my excitement (though that's a bit counterintuitive you would think it would boost my motivation.) It doesn't help that my fiancée and my few friends who know about surgery act like its a magic solution and I've already lost all the weight. Further I think being off my birth control pills and limited calories has been toying with my emotions. Any advice on keeping self esteem in check? -

I was able to.get mine off with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. I just had to rub really hard. Good luck. -
Does anyone know how to get the glue/sticky stuff off your skin? I tried alcohol and tonight I tried Vaseline and nothing works. I am dying to get it off because it makes my incisions look way worse than they actually are. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and the strips have been off for a week.

I'm noticing people are thinking they have doctorates in medicine since getting sleeved ..lol. I drank twice. It was my version of a sugar free daqari ..with little vodka..no problem..drank it slow. But I'm no doctor..that's just what I did..and it was under 100 calories and I don't think I am a failure because.of it. I like to enjoy my journey ..this doesn't mean I'm going to turn into a alcoholic Lmao

As far as the "itchy"-ness, it could definitely be the new hairspray. Higher alcohol content does that. ALSO,this time of year, I tell several of my clients this as this is their #1 complaint right now. "My scalp itches....do I have dandruff?": it's normal this time of year. The weather is changing. We are in generated heat all day long. In our cars, our homes, and at work. The heat is blowing non-stop. It's just getting dry. We put lotion on our skin to counteract it. Our scalp suffers a little also. It gets itchy before it starts flaking. I use a dandruff/itchy scalp shampoo once a week and it helps quite a bit. I prefer the Matrix brand, but there are several others. I use it on my scalp then use my regular shampoo on the rest of my hair. I don't know if you are living in an area that is getting cooler right now so this may or may not help you at all! Glad your hair is coming back in. Cute cut!

Its not our place to tell you if your ok with your band. Call your doctor we can not tell you these things. My thoughts here: Stop smoking weed and drinking. Smoking weed makes you consume too many calories and alcohol is just empty calories. Why waste money getting something in your body if your gonna continue to do what you did preband.

I am sorry to hear that about your friend. I have heard of this happening. I didn't have to sign anything indicating I would stay away from alcohol. I think that this can also happen with food after awhile and people can put the weight back on. I wish your friend all the best and I believe it is never too late to get back on track.

Why low carb?
Robyn Owens-Miille replied to SleeveNZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Simple carbs are addictive so avoid them like a recovering alcoholic avoids booze. Simple carbs trigger a rush of insulin, which drops your blood sugar, your body responds by wanting more carbs to fight the drop in blood sugar. It's a vicious cycle so just stay away. You can have complex carbs as they are slower absorbed and don't cause the massive release of insulin. Focus on these. -
I'm super nervous about having anything to drink. Different doctors say different time limits, so check with yours. Mine said I was fine after 5 months (which was Dec 13th), so I'm going to have some wine at Xmas. I'm not a big drinker at all and have my mother's alcohol tolerance (i.e. none) so I'm going to take it slow and I'm going to be in the house, around family, so someone can call an ambulance if something goes horribly wrong, lol.

Banded 1 yr and have it removed!!
cheryl2586 replied to spoiledbratt97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all yes I have been banded for three years and guess what????? If the band fails it is because of the one with it. If you are doing everything exactly to the tee unless you have a medical problem then yes you have failed the band. NancyNicole if you dont feel you are getting support here then............. Do you really think that the band is magic and its easy because its not. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN EAT JUNK FOOD THREE WEEKS OUT OR A YEAR OUT AND STILL LOSE WEIGHT??????? No you can't. I am only speaking of myself. I have been successful because I followed ALL of my doctors instructions not some. I havent eaten ice cream or doughnuts or cookies or pie or potato chips. I have had nothing but Protein, veggies and fruit. When I stopped doing all this I stopped losing period. When I went back to doing it I lost and kept losing. You can not eat and stuff yourself to the brim with the band, have a free for all cheat day, cosume massive amounts of carbs and think I/we are going to commend you for that because I HAVE WORKED HARD AT THIS. If you don't like others comments then so be it but it is a PUBLIC FORUM and as long as we post by the rules then really you don't have to read any of it. IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU MUST: 1 STOP GORDGING YOURSELF WITH FOOD, 2 STOP EATING JUNK FOOD, 3 STOP CONSUMING GROSS AMOUNTS OF CARBS 4 STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL 5 STOP EATING THINGS THAT ARE NOT ON YOUR DIET AS PRESCRIBED BY YOUR DOCTOR 6 STOP ASKING US WHAT TO EAT AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN DOCTORS PLAN. That is all there is to it. We are not here to coddle those who fail to do as they are told to do. "Oh I had a bad day and stuffed myself" and I am supposed to be happy about that why??????? I don't stuff myself on any given day. I dont cheat I do not eat what I am not supposed to. I take offense to those who get this surgery and think they can do as they did pre band. Oh its the holidays so let me consume cookies and pie. Really???? I dont care if you like my answer or how I answer others and this was not for the OP I truly believe the band is not for you. Do what you need to do. -
A friend of mine just got fired for drinking on the job. He had the sleeve done last winter. I think what has happened he was a drinker but once he got the sleeve, the alcohol was no longer absorbed in the stomach. It passed through to the intestines & had a faster & stronger affect. It became a problem before he knew it. Does any one know about this? This should be a warning for the drinkers out there.

A bit scary since some vsg patients replace their food addiction with alcohol.

I was wondering the something about Beer and Diet Coke. I get banded Dec 18 and looking forward to it. I will try and enjoy the company with no alcohol knowing what the outcome of being healthy will be.

Had a really shitty week - stated off well by losing 7 lbs in a week. Then heard my stepmother died after a 4 week battle. Finally finished off by my ex-wife falling off a chair last night putting up decorations & begging me to take her to the hospital. so, I had a few drinks tonight ...... well, it turned into more than a bottle of wine ..... my doc advised me 12 months before having alcohol. I'm 6 months post-op
