Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Denise..sounds like things are working for you with the reflux problem taken care of. My wish for you is to be able to get your fills without the problem coming back. I am sure you are somewhat paranoid about getting fills but gotta try it. I have been so lucky. I have had two fills, eat my regular portions and no hunger for up to 4 hours. Everyone is so different and hard to give advice on fills. I have been stuck twice and both times was on deli meat. That's off my menu! Please keep us informed as you get your fills and how you are doing. JoAnne...THIS IS YOUR BIG WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!! As I have said b/4, you have a great attitude going into this and have done your homework going into this. You will do just fine. Just remember to be patient in those first six weeks b/4 your fills. I kept SF Jello on hand, popsicles, etc. to carry me through. I could have never given up my coffee either. In fact, I am brewing a pot right now. I have a stainless steel (inside and out) pot that I put it in and it keeps it so fresh and drink throughout the day. Once in awhile put SF DiVinci syrup in for a treat. Happy to hear that Abbie is out at least a bit and running and playing. Hopefully she will get back on her food and become stronger. I know exactly where you are coming from...my puppa is EVERYTHING to me. He replaced my boys when they moved out 10 and 8 years ago. Love, love, love my dog. (My boys too!) DeeDee...you were asking for samples of what others eat... Typical day for me is: B-Greek yogurt with Splenda and small amount of Fiber One L-3.5 oz of protien. Salmon, chicken, steak (hamburger of any kind does not sit well) Veggies or fruit D- Same as above S-Always treat myself each evening to 100 cal pack of popcorn and throughout the day will have SF Jello or 100 cal 1/2 cup FF icecream. I do two snacks a day. My doc is very stern on no snacks. Just 1/2 cup three times daily. Went below my goal weight and had to throw the snacks in. Did not have any snacks while in the weight loss mode. Stuck to doc's rules during that time. I am just careful that everything that goes in my mouth on most has good nutritional value. I do treat myself on special occasions and have bday cake, a bar, etc. Can't totally cut everything out and feel deprived. As far as exercise...I walk the treadmill about 4 miles 5xweek when it is cold outside. Otherwise, same amount of walking outside. I also run my two sets of stairs in my house for extra exercise for about 20 minutes a day. We live 15 miles away from anywhere so do not want to spend my time on the road to go to a gym. (I work out of the home). You will do just fine. Take a listen to what others are doing and cut the foods out that you feel are holding you back some (if there are any). Bump up the physical activity up a bit if you feel you are not doing what you should. It really does not take a lot of exercise to make a difference. I am not telling you not to exercise. But, if it is not your thing, try getting at least a 30 minute walk in a day. And...never feel inadequate if you are losing a bit slower than someone else. Be proud of everything you have accomplished. K

Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Thank you for the kind words. Wannabe, with me food has quit being an issue (!!!) amazingly. Instead of it being the treasure I want to dive into, it's become something to keep me from getting weak and dizzy. Even with only 4cc, I tend to be on the tighter restriction side. So, in the mornings I either only have coffee and maybe a small yogurt if I am hungry. Lunch is usually some salmon and dinner is whatever I make for the family. And it really has gotten to the point that I don't think THAT much about what I'm eating because I never eat enough for it to be terribly bad for me. I made ooey gooey lasagna last nice and it was good, but I only had a sliver. So, I stick to protein first and then a vegetable or something if I'm not full. My BIG weakness is ice cream, this is a new addiction. But, when I indulge, I will usually choose to have an ice cream cone INSTEAD of a meal.....poor nutrition I know but SO GOOD and I do it in moderation. That was a lot of words for no answer, huh? hahahahah

Same in the United States. Low-fat yogurt is an option when you're on full liquids. 😀

    December bypass buddies

@@dmw0621 - yes, I haven't had a stomach discomfort at all, but my bariatric team modified my liquids so that I only drink water, clear broth, herbal tea and jello. I was told that for me, the blander the better but I'll let you know if anything changes tomorrow as I start my phase two which is shakes although my doctor isn't pushing the protein powder yet. I'll be able to drink non-fat milk, shakes with natural fruit , yogurt, thin cream of wheat or rice and pumpkin and sweet potato soup.

    Food Before and After Photos

The dressing was 1.25 cups plain whole milk Greek yogurt, two table spoons of mayo, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon of sugar (could probably use a sugar replacement, but I didn’t because it was so little), a teaspoon of salt, pepper, a little garlic powder, a teaspoon of rosemary, like 2 table spoons of tarragon, and a dash of tumeric. I didn’t have dill weed so I used tarragon in the dressing. Really wished I had dill weed!
  10. mslittle - you're very sweet, I have always loved to cook - part of my initial eating problem but now its fun for me to create band friendly delicious bites. tonight it will be back to work (24 hr+ night) so an extra meal day in addition tomorrow should be interesting b/c I will probably only get about 3-3.5 hr sleep (usually happens once a month or so ) I have 3 meetings during the day and work tomorrow night  hard to work nights in a day world ) so I usually have an extra snack (something crunchy and with Protein to give me energy) Plan for the Day: B: chocolate cheesecake Protein shake L: Couple cheese tortellini tossed in a creamy marinara and peas S: probably all bran crackers w/ lite laughing cow cheese D1: Roasted red pepper Soup w/ couple bites chicken sausage and grated parmessan D2: Plain nonfat greek yogurt w/ berries and 1 ozprotein Cereal S: not sure - something will come to me when I'm packing it up
  11. I added my modified my optislim tomato soup recipe to the Recipe Swap board. I'm going to try blending my Protein shake powder into yogurt for dinner. Lets see how it goes. Edit to add that it's really good! Would be even better with vanilla or banana I think!

    Food Before and After Photos

@SueperGaland @MIZ60 Thank you for the comparison photos. Just what I hoped to see. I'm glad you mentioned that the Thai food was 1 cup (your order) because I was only able to see a difference. A description of what was in the omelet was helpful also. I'm only guessing about the yogurt. The shot is a close-up so I don't really know how much that is. (I usually make my own yogurt, so I'm not familiar with most of the commercial sizes.)

Looks like there are a few of us on 1/27! Im glad to have others to follow this journey on! I find it so interesting how different all of our pre-op requirements are. I hate it when people post just to post.....

My Snack Fairy Likes Cheese, Yogurt, Strawberries, Grapes, Cherries, Bananas and loves Peanut Butter (which I've deamed Evil) - she's pretty much a Dairy/Fruit Fairy. I wish I could find one that brings veggies I like - sigh. Since I've fired the last one (she was prone to naughty things like Doritos, Dark Chocolate, Popcorn and Cheetos), the Scale Fairy has been a little more tolerant. I think the Gas Fairy Queen lives at my house. She has an awful since of humor and decides to strike at the most inappropriate times.

Just checking in. I'm at home now and doing pretty good. So far no real nausea. Drinking water and protein drinks thus far. Had some cream of chicken soup, yogurt, and pureed turkey while in the hospital. Pain isn't too bad. Heartburn is gone! Most the gas pain is gone, just have some pain from surgery itself. So far no hunger. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Yesterday was the first day since surgery where I had a 'good' food day. Everything I ate was tolerated well. I got in my liquids. I had a nice diverse meal day...egg and greek yogurt with strawberries in the AM, chicken salad at lunch, homemade crab cake for dinner. Get on the scale this morning and up .8 of a pound. Really? Sooo frustrating because I had so many bad food days in the last 2 weeks during pureed and early soft food stages....learning about so many new intolerances (lactose being the biggest of them) and then I have a great food day and...weight gain.

So I grabbed my first container of puréed ham salad and color me surprised I could only eat half the two ounce cup. I was eating whole Greek yogurts and 4oz of soup. Texture really does make a difference.

    I'm here to help...

Hi everyone, Just checking in and had a bunch to read as I've been busy the past few days. Joanne, glad to hear from you, congrats on your new grand baby. Hope you continue to lose weight and enjoy yourself on your trip. Hopefully the next tour will not be too long, I know how tough that is too. Apples, I also keep our solders and their families in my prayers - I was an AF wife for many years and I know how tough it is when one of your loved ones is in harm's way. Long, hope you didn't get too buried in snow! How much did you get? News said 20" in some parts of Colorado. We've had rain yesterday and today and supposed to be in the 80s later in the week -- thank goodness, as I've been cold all winter too. Can't wait to see how I feel in our hot, muggy weather (hopefully cooler than last year, lol). Okay, Janet, you asked for a lot of extra work. Here's what I ate today: brunch was egg beaters omlette, 1/2 serving of Morning Star Sausage Crumbles, 1 container of Yoplait light yogurt mixed with some strawberries and half a banana. DInner was taco salad I made with 1/2 C of 96% lean ground beef and black beans (I cooked together with taco seasoning and was yum) 1/4 C. 2% shredded Mex. blend cheese, lettuce, raw spinach, sweet onions and grape tomatoes tossed with non-fat ranch dressing. Tonight my snacks will be sugar free jello cup and sugar free pudding and later on I'll have a Skinny Cow low fat peanut butter/chocolate ice cream sandwich. Total calories: 984. My calorie budget is 1150 daily. I couldn't eat all my salad tonight, but I'll still count all the calories, as it's too tough to try to deduct some.I normally eat only two meals a day because I work nights (and don't go to bed until 2:00 a.m.) and usually don't get up until 10:00 or 10:30 a.m. By the time I drink a cup of morning coffee and then wait the 1/2 hour to eat, it's usually almost lunch time anyway, so I normally just eat brunch and dinner, it works well for me. I eat my snacks at night too, I don't think I could make it through without having a treat to look forward to -- it helps keep me in line all day. I don't drink milk and so my doc wants me to incorporate low fat yogurt, pudding and non-fat ice cream (in limited amounts) in my diet for calcium. I am finding Bryers non-fat ice cream delish (very creamy) along with some Fat Free Mrs. Richardson's Hot Fudge topping makes a truly satisfying dessert when you are craving chocolate. Unfortunately, it's NOT low sugar though, so I try to limit that treat to just once a week. I even put a little low fat granola on it once in a while for crunch or sometimes half a banana too. But only 1/2 Cup at a time (I used to think a serving was about a pint too). I've been very fortunate that I haven't had any problems so far with foods getting stuck (only had one fill so far). I really missed salads and was very happy when I could start eating them again - but I do chop up everything very well and chew, chew chew. I am getting my next fill on Wednes. please wish me luck -- I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will go smoother than the last one. Julie, so happy you are at home, that means you are getting better and I hope you start feeling better too. I hope spring comes along this week so you can get outside and get some fresh air too. I know I'm ready for spring to happen here. Janet. hope your jewelry party went well, I just went to one about a week ago. I have so much jewelry I could probably open a store, but always find something I MUST HAVE at those parties. LOL. My DS is coming on Wednes for my bday -- isn't that sweet? MY DH's b-day is Tues., so we have lots of celebrating to do. I found a low fat cake recipe that sounds delish -- I'll make that for us. Hope everyone has a great week! Linda

    What ya eating tonight?

I'm only a little over two weeks out so I'm in the pureed stage...tonite I decided I needed to make these refried beans a little more appealing...I added shredded cheese, taco seasoning and some plain Greek yogurt...delicious!!!

    What ya eating tonight?

Just as an FYI- 1000 calories is great. 1200 is even better. If you want your metabolism to keep working, u can't make your calories too low. Now, I say this after just having an 80 calorie yogurt and a few tablespoons of hummus the whole day, but one day I will be able to eat. Also, my favorite "wings" are just the chicken drummettes from the grocery store with garlic salt and onion powder and baked in the oven. I would advise avoiding fast food as much as possible and learning to prepare whole foods because the chemicals and preservatives can all kinds of health problems.
  22. I am so hungry and over this liquid!!! I am day I can't even remember -- ok day 11 post op. I think I get to start some extra items like yogurt and creamy Soup after nut on Tuesday. Dreaming of burgers. But also better fitting clothes... Sigh.

My lactose intolerance seems to be based on how much I consume. I was doing greek yogurt, cottage cheese and ricotta cheese during pureed but now I seem to be tolerating them less. I'm going to move away from lactose-dairy for awhile.

Good Evening Gang... Lori - I have a LARGE walk in closet maybe 10x7 - it's brimming with clothes - I have clothes in the guess room closet - we really have 2 season - summer & winter - my closet is FULL... I could dress for about 3 months and most likely not where the same thing twice - well except for pants - but I could go a couple or 3 weeks without wearing them twice well that would be if I could wear jeans to work on days other than Friday. My Kaitlin wasn't getting any milk when DIL was breast feed- she brought her over about 10 days after she was born and Kailtin looked like skin & bones I asked her - how can you tell if she's getting enough food she has lost weight - you need to take her to the doctor - sure enough - come to find out she wasn't getting enough food - so they switched to the bottle (DIL has big boobs and Kaitlin had a small mouth ;0) Jaundice no biggie - but now you see the worry starts all over again LOL you worry about your kids - now you get to add DGD to the mix - it's never ending (motherhood) LOL She is a beautiful baby.... Julie - Hugs - can't wait to hear how the doc visit went... Melissa - I'm telling you - You DH has some issues - I don't think he wants you to be healthy - Come you are diabetic first and foremost and he knows you love candy - why in the hell would he bring it in the house - if he runs his own business then tell him to keep it at his office - that really pisses me off... Come on now food is our addiction - why is he doing that to you - There's a reason behind it imho - Tell him I said to keep the crap out of the house and at his office if he can't live without it - but to quit trying to kill you.. Charlene - Yes my #7 are coming next week - Candice arrives on Sunday 3/14 till the following Monday 3/21 - Linda comes in on Monday 3/15 leaves on the following Sat 3/19 and Phyl will be stay w/us too for a few nites and all of the days they are here - So all said and done - I have company for 1 week - Andrew's Bday is 3/18 he'll be 20 - so depending on his plans (which I won't know till the day of his Bday) he might be going out to dinner w/4 old ladies - he said that was cool.. He just wants his present so he's willing to dine w/us old ladies LOL Gosh getting old is the pits - Hugs on your Mom having to have her eyelashed plucked and other issues.. Ya I just heard we change the clock back on Saturday night - it will be nice for my girls who are coming - more day light and it will give me a week to get use to it before I have to go back to work.. I don't like springing forward - losing 1 hr sleep is hard - but since I'm on vacation it shouldn't be too bad and I have my dogs who wake me up to go potty every morning and they don't know about clocks.. Can't belive you are going to be 60 !!! Well today's 60 is really young - not like our parents.. Meredith - How nice of you - I think shaving would be better than it falling out - I know w/my stepmom - it's not pretty - rather have it all gone at once, Well my dinner is done - so gotta cut this short... Food today - BF Yogurt/blackberries - lunch Homemade Ck Soup - Dinner Fish Broc rice - Had gym this evening - here's a thought - trainer said it's hard to get in shape but easy to stay that way - It's so true - it's all about lifestyle and changing it... Once you do it - it's not really that hard to maintain... Linda hugs on the teeth issue - ugh... Eva - we were windy too - it's suppose to stop tonite... I hate the wind. Apples - are you getting back into the groove... Well gang - gotta go eat... Talk to you all in the a.m.
