    have begun the post-op journey

Thanks everybody for your encouragement. It is now day 6 and I believe I am just now beginning to feel the full brunt of this event. I'm very tired and the littlest effort poops me out. Today I've decided to get in the full 60oz of water, even if that means coming nowhere near my proper protein amounts. Dehydration is scary. I will also shuffle over to the market and see if they have any of these sugar free syrups you guys mention, something to reduce the nastiness of my proteins. For now I will sit on the couch in my pj's, wrapped in blankets, and read while staring out the window at the lovely foggy ocean view. It would help if I could get some kind of nsv here soon tho ...:crying:

    have begun the post-op journey

NSV stands for non-scale victory. There is a great thread in the success stories someone started called NSV shout outs that is really inspiring!

    NSV (Non Scale Victory)!!!

Ok I've only lost 28 lbs but I have a few NSVs 1. I went clothes shopping. I tried on a pair of 24 pants... it didn't fit... 22? nope still loose...20 nope...18? no way...16 HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!! THEY FIT!!! So not only have I moved from a size 24 pant to size 16. I have also moved from a size 20/22 top to a 14/16! I'm just one step closer to never having to step foot back into Lane Bryant or avenue. 2. My fiance can wrap his arms around me and i can spin around in his arms without him letting go. 3. I've become SOOOO much more flexible.
  7. It has been a great morning. I got dressed to go to work this morning for the first time since my surgery and everything felt a little big, including my shoes! Perhaps some of it is psychological, but, hey, I'll take it. I was also thrilled this morning that I found a Protein shake that I can tolerate very well. Isopure Low Carb Dutch chocolate. I was really struggling with trying to get my protein in this weekend, so I am happy have found a shake that will work for me. 50g of protein per 12 oz (2 scoops of powder) which sounds great to me. All in all, a very good morning! Brian:biggrin0:

    Hope

I have hope. I think. Looked it up and it means - 1 : to desire with expectation of obtainment 2 : to expect with confidence. Yes, that's it - HOPE. Haven't had that for a long time. So thankful for my LAP-BAND® and my LBT friends - you're awesome support! I'm feeling so much better - getting my energy back, eating well now, and feeling good about the weight loss and weight shift (I get measured in a couple of weeks so am real sure there are NSV there.) Cleaned out my closet this weekend. Put the 'fattest' clothes together to the side - won't be wearing those ever again. Now everything in my closet fits. Also organized my shoes --- funny how my feet gained weight and I'm newly fitting into some of my old smaller shoes again. Fun!
  9. so here I am, four days post-op. I'm mouthing around a cold sf popsicle, propped up by pillows. I've had 80g of protein thanks to the powders sent home with me by my surgeon. I hope Im done taking the liquid vicoden as it tastes horrible and gives me trippy dreams. Painful hiccups, seriously painful, and more pain with plain water than with anything else. Thank goodness for popsicles. Haven't begun taking my vitamins yet, any thoughts on that? I have a gummy multivit and a B12 complete. I went out to dinner with family tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them eat and smelling the aromas, felt zero emotions of being left out etc. Am now sipping very cold lemon squirted homemade chicken broth, yum!! Surgeon used glue instead of stitches so that pulls and scratches a little, hurts after I stand up as things fall into place, painful hiccups, and can't sleep on my stomach which is turning out to be the most difficult thing of all. Any word on when we can do that? Haven't weighed myself yet, don't see a point, it's only been 4 days and any weight loss right now will just reflect the fluids and gases from the surgery. When I get back to work I will have an opportunity to weigh myself. I can wait a month! I am still wrapping my brain and emotions around the fact that I did this, it seems unreal, and then all too real. I've had the emotional tearful "what have I done to myself" moment, haven't had any NSV's yet - rings aren't loose yet. Just taking it day by day and trying to rest. Think I'll go chew a pepcid. Thank you everybody for letting me speak!! And where to I go to get one of those ticker thingies? :tongue_smilie:
  10. I was banded 04/09/2010, Begining weight in Jabuary was 325ls. Current weight as of today 266. So woth my stats out of the way I wanted to share with you all my NSV. About three weeks ago my 13 year old son who is a senior patrol leader for his scout troop tells me he is going on a 20 mile hike in three weeks. I start to thinking and decide what the heck lets try it! Well I left Thursday through some of the roughest country in the Arizona mountains, 7 miles a day with a 40lb back pack my 10 year old son, my 13 year old son, 17 other scouts, and two other leaders. We finished the trip yesterday at 2pm, what an experience. I want to thank the LAP-BAND® for helping me take my life back. If I hadnt made the decision to get teh LAP-BAND® I would have waived to my boys as they went on this awesome journey, instead I got to share it with them! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Here are a couple pics.

    NSVs!

In the almost 18 months that i've been banded I've had a few NSV's already. 1. Fitting comfortably on an airplane seat w/o having to use a seat belt extender last summer when I went to Florida 2. Going from size 26/28 (busting out of them) to wearing a size 20 in pants and size 14 in shirts 3. Getting complimented. I've had complete strangers where I work approach me and tell me I've inspired them to lose weight. 4. Constantly being happy!!! This is a major one. i am a very happy person nowadays 5. I was in a wedding last month and I wasn't the "fat one". As a matter of fact my dress I ordered was a size 16W and it had to be taken in on top quite a bit! 6. Taking 5 mile walks with my boyfriend and dog on a regular basis Next month I am looking forward to going to an amusement park and fitting on the seats comfortably. I went to disney last summer and was able to fit on those rides comfortably but this will be the 1st time I'm going to a park with a bunch of thrill rides and some of those rides are old rides and aren't as "large person" friendly.

    NSVs!

Four summers ago I was told by the "lady" sitting next to me on an international flight from Germany that "People like you should have to buy two seats because you're so fat" (don't worry, I had some choice words for her, too!). So, my NSV this summer was a real delight: flying coach and having PLENTY of room!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Great NSV at Cedar Point, Special K! You're strong, and you can beat the eating from boredom thing while unemployed. Maybe dance around the house when that feeling comes over you? I know it's tough... just keep making good choices when you're eating. Christine, I heard something interesting while at a consultation with another surgeon the other day. He and another doctor were discussing what sounded remarkably similar to your delayed gastric empyting thing, and one of the solutions they were looking at was first to try dilating the pylorus (the muscly opening at the bottom of the stomach, I think), and if that helped the patient, then Botox (!) that muscle to help keep the pylorus open and make the transiting of the food out of the stomach and down to the intestine easier. Does that make any sense in the context of your issues? Clearly I'm no doctor, but I immediately thought of you when I heard it. Maybe you can ask your doctor about the idea? Fenton, I loved your "blowout" dinner -- yum! But I'm really amazed how you just drop weight!

    Nsv

I had a great NSV today and thought I'd share. My surgeons nurse called me today and said she had a favor to ask of me on behalf of my surgeon. He is giving a presentation the end of this month on bariatrics. So he would like me to come along as a living before and after! I am not yet at my goal, but have lost 60% of my excess weight, so a sucess in there eyes! Not only will I present and discuss my journey thus far, but he would like me to be in a publication for the bariatric center for the hospital! Hard part is going to be finding a before picture since I avoided the camera like the plauge!! Wow is that a motivating event! Thanks for reading. Crystal

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

I've lost almost 50 pounds since beginning the process. My 4th fill is on the 30th - right now I have 5.5cc in an 11cc band and can eat pretty much anything...in moderation. Every once and awhile I'll get stuck - fish seems to really get me. I don't see the scale moving as much as I'd like, but I'm down from a 3x over all to a Med/Large top and and 18-20 bottom. NSV's...I hauled my 5 year-old neice to the car after a day at the beach and her 45 pounds of dead weight brought my success home as did today's trip to the consignment shop to drop off some of my 3x career wear. The woman at the shop asked if I was dropping them off for someone and when I told her, "No - it's all mine" she commented that, "You must've have lost a ton of weight!".

    Alert! Nsv alert!

Awesome NSV! I've never had that experience, but I have had one wheere we were tubing down a faux river at a water park and I clogged up most of the area because my tube kept sinking with me on it, and wasn't floating. I told DH that it's my goal to go there next summer and float along.

    Alert! Nsv alert!

Congratulations!!! This is a great NSV an one of my own goals as well. I've done the walk of shame after not fitting in a seat and I hope by nest season I'll be ready to go too. Congratulations again and keep on losing and racking up those NSV!!!

    470 lbs Flight Question

In a few months I'm going to be looking for your post on the NSV (non scale victories)thread that says how good it feels when you fly and fit comfortably in one seat !!!!! I'm sorry it sucks right now.... but this is the last time !!!!!
  19. I too was disappointed with my follow up appointments. Everyone was super nice, but I have still not met the actual dietician, always a nurse. Several of them had the procedure done, but I don't feel like I am loosing like I should either...I would like to ask the dietician a few questions. I haven't lost a lb or inch in over a week! I actually went up and then back to the original place, and my BMI is very high, so I thought I should loose quickly. The nurse said I was on the right track, and my body was thinking it was starving so it's holding on. She said likely it will start going back down. I haven't had a single thing that wasn't high in protein or on the list, so I am quite frustrated. I got 2 books (1 from my Dr. and 1 from the hospital) and they don't say the same things about food. She said to follow my Dr. book, but it doesn't go into much detail. It is so confusing and a little frustrating. I keep telling myself that I am heading to be a skinny me, so I need to figure out what works for my skinny version. Did anyone else "stall" for a week or 2? No NSV's either...I haven't lost a single inch in over a week.
  20. Stacie--that's awesome you're signing up for a 5k! I have been thinking about it too--don't know I'd make it the whole way, but I'm sure I could finish LOL Lots of luck! Denise--did you schedule your fill yet? Isn't it funny how you just know you need a tweak?!? Hopefully you don't have to wait too long.... HB -- change that ticker! So few of us are normal these days LOL NSV--so some of you have seen on FB, but I noticed my size 12 shorts were getting pretty big so I ordered a pair of size 10 off eBay to see if they fit. WOW! Boy do they! I can honestly say I am in a 10! HOLY CRAP!!! Yeah! So, I had my 5th fill today. It's funny how you sometimes can figure out when you're ready for one. I noticed I was a teensy bit hungry in between meals and knowing it would take me at least 3 weeks to get in, I called for my appointment. It wasn't that bad, but I just knew I needed a little tweak. Sure enough, .5 ccs baby. Liquids until Monday, but today hasn't been that bad. I've had 2 skinny vanilla lattes from Starbucks, a nice banana, peanut butter, chocolate protein shake, water and will have some jello when I get out of the pool...which is exactly where I'm going right now! Can't do any cardio tonight. I just about killed myself doing celebrity tae bo cardio with my sister last night! 43 minutes of pure hell and your eyes burning with sweat LOL Hope everyone is having a good week. The weekend is almost here! Yeah!
  21. I was treated like a moron. I'm not sure when weight = intelligence, but people assumed because I was obese I was an idiot. Most were very surprised when they hear me speak in intelligent, well thought out sentences and found out I have a graduate degree. This is a great NSV for me: I was at a garage sale last weekend, looking for furniture or toys, and the woman who lived there said "we have a ton of clothes in your size". Surprised because it's so rare to find plus sized clothing at garage sales, I went to investigate. Either she is really bad at estimating sizes or I look a lot slimmer that I thought, because all the clothes were a regular large, no X's added to it.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Congratulations on the NSV's! Special K you have done such a good job. You must have felt awesome getting on those rides. When was the last time you were able to do that? Fenton....WOOOHOOOOOOOO 24 pounds! Wow. when you focus you really can get the weight off. Awesome job! I have to move my appointment. I have to work tomorrow, so I can't make it. I will reschedule for next month after DH leaves for Afghanistan again. I know it's going to slow my loss AGAIN, but it will be OK. Amanda....How are you doing? Chica how goes it? Any date yet? Christine
  23. There is no denying this fact. People treat me much differently now compared to pre-band. Unfortunately, it's just a fact of society like it or not. One good thing is that it adds to the list of NSV's as you lose fat and get fit... Brad
  24. I just got back from a mini vacation at my childhood best friend's house. She lives just outside Cincinnati and you can see King's Island's Eiffel Tower from the end of her street. I haven't seen her and her family since they came home (Columbus) for Christmas. At that time, I'd lost about 55-60 pounds. Now, I've lost 80-85 pounds. At Christmas, her 9 y/o son kept bragging about how he can and will ride any and all roller coasters at King's Island. He threw me a challenge and I accepted. I have to admit that I was extremely nervous about getting back on a roller coaster because the last time I tried to ride a roller coaster (2004), I couldn't fit in the seat and had to leave the loading area in front of EVERYONE. Needless to say, that was VERY embarrassing! Well, I am extremely proud to report that I FIT ON EVERY RIDE WITH ROOM TO SPARE! :puke:    We rode the Diamondback, Invertigo, Italian Job, and Adventure Express coasters and a few other rides. We went to the park after 5pm and the lines were really short. I had a blast!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Cedar Point NSV this past weekend but still room to improve! -- I was able to fit on 8 of the 10 roller coasters at Cedar Point and 2 the seatbelt was about 2" too short and I couldn't ride. I am carrying the weight I have left in my stomach area especially so I am planning to take waist and hip measurements monthly until I know I have those last 2 inches gone that would make me roller coaster eligible for any of them! Even so, I am so, so proud of the ones I could proudly fit into after losing what I have. And, a huge NSV for me is that I walked and walked hours around the park and my knees, legs, and ankles, feet were not holding me back! I was tired but I kept up with the rest of the family niece/nephews youngsters (20 somethings) I was with. I bought a size Medium Tshirt with all the names of the roller coasters on it to remember the day! Confession time- had a huge ice cream cone that day at the park but walked 14,500 steps that day too!
