    Zumba, Good Idea Or No?

I did two classes this week, I didn't like the first instructor but the second instructor today wow. I couldn't do everything but I broke a sweat and I feel it in my body lol. Kicked my ass in a good way, I did notice though that drinking Water and moving makes me have nausea so that may be an issue. It was like getting motion sickness after drinking water lol. But other than that I'm pretty good. Figured I'd start small and just stick to two classes a week or at least one and build up. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Getting banded on Tuesday.

To Ready to be Thin - and anyone else who seeks gastric bypass surgery in Mexico particularly through the company known as Belite or www.beliteweight.com Be aware that things are not as they seem. My fiance had surgery on 3/27/09 in Mexico - things were not good!!!! We left and came back into SanDiego he got sicker and sicker we went to ER on 3/30/09 and he was admitted and emergency surgery performed. He is still in hospital today 4/11/09 the surgeon here says he may not be released until 4/16. That makes 16 add'l days in hospital due to the poor care in Mexico!!! I am not just saying any of this we have lived through it and not even out of the woods yet! DON'T RISK YOUR LIFE. Belite has facilitators who are good at selling the dream of being thin or looking good but they smoooth over those individuals who have bad experiences. True you can have bad experience here in the US. But at least in the US the nurses can communicate with you! At least in the US they follow the Centers for Disease Control's Standards of Practice and Universal Precautions. At least in the US we have surgeons who are ethical and have a medical licensing board to govern them. I am not to the bottom of my investigation of Belite and we certainly will do everything in our power to at least try and get the word out about this company. Old saying - if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Never has this saying been more true. I am sure the hospital bill here is in excess of $75,000 and climbing. Beware!!!!!
  5. Hi - I'm 12 weeks post-op and have had no issues and am losing weight slow and steady. I couldn't be more pleased. Anyway, just a couple of days ago, I started experiencing an occasional sharp pain on my left side right around my waist level. It comes and goes. Last night it woke me up and this morning I had an episode while driving to work. Like I said, it is intermittent and doesn't last long but since I've never felt this kind of pain before, it has started to worry me. Anyone have anything like that?
  6. I waited three weeks I figured i was off work then I should wait on sex lol

    Surgery today 5/22

Just wanted to share how easy this was today for anyone who might be getting nervous. I had my surgery today at 10 a.m. and I was home by 1 p.m. I've slept most of the day, I think from the pain meds I am taking. I'm taking them even though I don't have pain, just to head it off. I've sipped on Gatorade all day, maybe 1/3 or a bottle. My only complaint is a sore throat and I seem to get the hiccups, probably from sipping incorrectly. Good luck everyone! Oh, and I did a one week pre-op diet. Last week at start of diet I was 212, today I was 204. I am 5'7" w/ a BMI of 31.9 and want to get down to 150.

    Post-op Update!

Well...here I am on the 'other' side! I'm half happy about it and half, well, not so happy. Let's go back: Surgery Day (5/21): Scared out of my mind! Got to the hospital at 5:15 am. I was taken back to get ready for the surgery...IV in, leg contractors on. And then, the tears came! I was given something to help 'relax' me, and from then on, everything is almost 'dream' like. I remember kissing my husband good-bye. Being wheeled into the OR, and a mask being placed over my face and being told that it was oxygen and to take a couple of deep breaths....and that was it...lights out for me! The next thing I remember is being told that the surgery was over and I was fine. Woo-hoo...I survived!!! The first day I was feeling pretty good...not as bad as I thought I would. I spent the night in the hospital and I slept well considering being woken up every few hours. Day 1 Post-op (5/22): Morning came and I was feeling awful. Light headed, cold sweat...just not good. The nurse took my vitals and said everything looked fine. I did lots of walking.....it turned out to be a decent day. I was discharged at 8 pm (my choice), crawling into my own bed was divine! Day 2 Post-op (5/23): woke up feeling great! Did lots of walking. Lots of gas pains in my shoulder and tummy. Constant grumbling and gurgling....when will this end? I'm trying so hard to burp to get rid of this gas, but I just cant do it....so frustrating! That night I was even able to sleep on my right side a little bit....so much better than sleeping on my back. I can't wait until I can sleep on my left side! Day 3 post-op (5/24): Woke up feeling like crap! Again, lightheaded, slightly nauseous, cold sweat...ugh...I don't like this! I took my temp and BP...everything was good. I stayed in bed ALL day and slept! Maybe I over did it yesterday. Day 4 post-op: (5/25): Feeling a little better today...again, I'm going to take it easy. I'm starting to figure out the whole eating/drinking thing. It seams like the hunger pangs never really go away though. And I still have this gas in my chest that wont seam to go away. If I could just let out a really good burp, I know I would feel better. I'm also starting to pull back a bit with the pain meds. o.k. So now I'm caught up...I'll try posting everyday!
  9. I was allowed during pureed stage week 3
  10. When I was three weeks out I did not want food at all. Nothing sounded good. But follow your docs plan. They have a method to their madness. As far as loss stalling or slowing, your body just went through A LOT!! It might need a little time to adjust. It will come off.

  13. I am so glad to hear that you are recovering much better, now. I gained 12 pounds in the hospital, and by the time I lost it, I hit the third week stall.
  14. Well, I had my surgery on 4/21/2015. The DS went well, but once I received a lovenox shot my clotting factor vanished. Turns out I have Von Millebrand Disease which is a type of hemophilia. Never knew I had it even though it is hereditary. I ended up being in the hospital for a week, and lost only .5 lbs due to the massive amounts of fluids administered. After all was said and done I received 6 units of blood, 4 units of plasma, and DDAVP. During this whole time I questioned my decision to even have surgery. Now that I am home I can look at it with a clearer head, and I know that the my health is worth all of the issues I encountered. Plus it was a blessing because it uncovered an issue I didn't know I had. Don't let the issues of the moment override your mission. If anything I made me a stronger person.

    13 weeks

Jdillon congrats I like your attitude and the way you count, I have 5 weeks and counting.
  17. I follow a ketogenic diet and I'm never hungry. I track my Protein, limit my carbs to primarily vegetables and keep an eye on my fat. My NUT had me add avocados and nuts because I needed more calories and healthy fats. I'm only 3 months post-RNY but it has worked great so far.
  18. Also staying fully hydrated helps you pass things through your pouch and makes it "less sticky-ish." That was from Dr. Alvarez the bariatric surgeon. If you are at all dehydrated, it may take a couple of days to really replenish your fluid levels. To me, it makes all the diff in how I handle food and post prandial nausea. Also, if you're having issues with protein, use meat lube (low fat, low cal, low carb gravies, soupy stewpy things like your chili and for god's sake, don't overcook eggs! LOL.) Also soft cooked white flaky mild fish is usually pretty easy for most people, as can be soft scrambled eggs with yogurt or lite sour cream mixed in to make them creamy. Beans and cheese, or canned beans mashed with some yogurt or cheese go down easy. If it were me, I'd stay away from the obvious slider culprits. You're losing well now, but that habit is hard to shake and your weight loss WILL level off and you could potentially stall out. Sorry you are struggling.

First Fill - did I do the right thing?

So I finally scheduled my first fill, one week ago on Wed. I'd gained 5lbs in the past month b/c I truly could eat anything and did. I think I was mourning food - so afraid I'd never be able to enjoy eating again. The fill was very easy, I'm using fill center usa and used the same weight loss doctor that I've been going to for years. She used a needle to numb the area up and after a few misses (you could feel and her slipping off the plastic side of the port a few times) she hit it. I was relieved only b/c I really and truly thought I had flipped my port (see episode of a pop and burning sensation about 6 weeks after surgery that must have turned out to be scar tissure after all!) Anyway, she would put a little liquid in, pull some out. When she put too much in, I could feel my throat closing. It was like that feeling you get when something gets stuck. Its kind of a panic filled feeling b/c when you get something stuck you know the misery that comes next. She would barely pull a tiny bit of fluid out and it would go away. All the while I was drinking a cold, cold bottle of water so I could tell if the water rushed down or not. Well, in the end I ended up with 1.8 cc in my 4cc capacity band. I thought that was a lot! She said everyone is just different and that testing using the water is the best indicator. Great experience at the dr, no problems, etc. Well, I followed instructions, drank protien shakes the first day, mushy food the next. WELL, when I tried to eat solids that's when I got scared. I ate some salsa and one bite of fajita chicken on the 3rd day at lunch and it was horrible. I had to ask the friend who drove me twice to pull over on the way back to the office b/c I was salivating so badly and had to spit. I actually threw up once on the side of the road. I felt like such an idiot - they don't know I had the band and they MUST have thought I had the swine flu! Anyway - I couldn't swallow, foam-like spit came up and it felt like I had to burp but couldn't burp or swallow. And that Pain in my throat -UGH! THAT's precisely when I thought - did I do the right thing? Is this what its going to be like for the rest of my life? Is this what it feels like to be too tight? I was really questioning myself - I WANT to eat, enjoy, savor, cook, experience food - I just want to eat LESS! NOT feel like this!! I thought to myself - I PAID for this myself - what did I DO?? Well, I had to tell myself that I'm learning. I probably ate something too soon, didn't chew enough and I need let my body calm down from the fill - just like I had to allow it to settle in and calm down after the band itself. What I AM learning about this whole process is that I have to be kind to my body - allow it to heal and accept these changes at a slow pace. My job and my personality means I rush, rush, rush! Well, when I rush through eating - eat a large mouthfull and don't concentrate on really chewing the food. I'm going to pay the price. And THAT IS what I paid for. It is at just those times, that I overeat, eat too fast, eat the wrong things. So, I've had a few more similar episodes since - from eating one too many sweedish meatballs at IKEA to going to a mongolian grill with my husband and eating one piece of pinapple and excusing myself to the restroom to spit up foamy spit for 30 mins. I know that's my body trying to get that food un-stuck! I'm learning - I'm learning! And I've lost 3 lbs in the week since the fill! Finally the scale is moving again!

    Continuing the cycle

I didn't see the psych post op. I am 7 weeks out and I still like to snack and pick...I don't know if it will ever go away, but I concentrate on drinking sugar free drinks and SF popcycles at night to help with the need to have "something". I eat pumplkin seeds (break them out of the shell), I can't eat too many of them so it doesn't impact my weight loss, but the activity of shelling them helps with hand to mouth fixation... I am suprised more people don't have something to say about the mental eating...I am sure so many of us must be dealing with it in some way.

    Stuck

Hi.i had a lap band 10 days ago.the first week in was losing 1 pound every day.after that.i haven't lost no even a pound.I am doing something wrong? I have been following the puree diet.i am absolute following the sample menu.i feel little disappointed. Is it normal to get stuck ?am I doing something wrong? Thanks Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App
  22. And I am down 27 lbs! But my loss has been really strange. I won't lose anything for 5 days then I'll drop 3 lbs overnight... and I can't stop weighting myself everyday. gah. Good news: I have been cleared for all foods and I was told by my doctor to start with chicken. Bad news: the two times I have tried chicken it came back up... I only tried it twice (on different days) because I thought maybe I didn't chew it up so well the first time. Found out it just doesn't sit well with me at all. I hope it is temporary but we'll see.
  23. Just ran out on my lunch hour to d**k's Sporting Goods to get goggles for my swimming lessons.... they were having a clearance sale ( additonal 50% lowest ticket price). I purchased 3 Dri-Fit workout shirts in size MEDIUM... MED-DEE-UMMMMMMM!!!! for $6 each... I was tempted to buy more but since I still have weight to lose these will due for now.... They had a LOT of XL and XXL stuff on the clearance rack..not much in medium... So I was reminded 1 of the downsides of losing weight...the middle sizes are the first to go... the extremely tiny and the humungous clothes seem to hang around the racks a little longer, especially in stores like this...

    Health Net Blue Gold

It's a narrow-network product, and I believe it's only offered in northern CA. here in the bay area, which means your two sites for surgery ought to be either Valleycare or Summit in the east bay, UCSF in SF, or Mercy Methodist in Sacramento. The same criteria apply for approval of surgery; here is a link to the policy: https://www.healthnet.com/static/general/unprotected/pdfs/national/policies/BariatricSurgery.pdf They do NOT require six months waiting period, nor have they since this policy was updated in May 2015, however "Patient has made a reasonable effort to lose weight and there is documentation that these attempts at dietary control have been ineffective in achieving a medically significant long-term weight loss.". A psychological evaluation is required. Their criteria for individuals with a BMI between 35 and 40 are pretty stringent. All of these details are on pages 3 and 4 of the policy. Health Net requires that its delegated medical groups (Brown & Toland, Hill, Mercy, etc.) follow Health Net's criteria. This means that if your medical group says that you need to anything beyond what is mentioned in the criteria, they are incorrect. Your surgeon will have specific requirements for preop diagnostic testing, such as an EGD and/or upper GI X-ray, a sleep study, or an EKG, and that's fine, those are diagnostics your surgeon needs and not subject to the health plan or medical group's policies. I hope this helps!

    3 day post OP

Congratulations and welcome to your new life! Stay connected here. Walk a lot. Karate chops on the neck and shoulder helped me. Every day you should feel a little better, not worse. Stay off the scale. It will drop but then you will gain a bit after a couple of weeks. Don't let that discourage you. Stay on plan and you will start to lose consistently. One year from now you will be amazed at your new self. This will also be a glorious summer for you. How exciting!
