  1. Please don't let this scare you. You are young and you see what your mother is going through every day of her life. My mother was very obese and in a wheel chair for over 10 years. When I was young I became very obese and really missed a huge portion of my life because of it. I am 65 now with all the health problems including insulin dependent diabetes. I am going to go through with it and I am also very scared because of my age. But if this had been available to me years ago I would have hoped I had gone for it. Maybe a lot of things would have been different. I still have to hope this will give me a better quality of life. Mokee

    I'm a looser

We are sleeve sisters! I, too, had surgery on 10/17. Congrats on your weight loss! I am looking forward to being back in the 1's.....someday. I've been stuck at the same weight for almost 3 weeks. Though I know it will pass, it's so frustrating when you're in the middle of it.

    Insurance Issues ?

Hi, I was told reasons for denial from my insurance company (health net): 1. BMI must be over 40 (if I didn't have any co-morbidities) 2. Under 40 BMI you must have at least two co-morbidities (diabetes, sleep apnea, etc.) 3. I had to go through 6 months of monitored weight loss and lose 10% of my weight (I lost 15lbs) 4. I didn't have to prove any previous weight issues which h was great to hear. Waiting to be approved was the most stressful time for me. I worried everyday that I wouldn't qualify. There are so many different requirements for the insurance companies. I made sure I called my insurance company to confirm the requirements. My doctors office is great...they did all the work, I just needed to show up and follow the rules. I still couldn't help but worry.

    Questions for post ops...

Oh, bed ridden! Sorry, I should have figured that out. Naw, I wasn't bed ridden, not even in the hospital. I refused to get in the hospital bed except to sleep at night. I even napped sitting up in the glider chair in my room. Being at home taking care of myself was fine. I wasn't going to be cleared to drive for the first week so I made sure I had everything I needed on hand. I had a lifting restriction of 10 lbs, and I knew I wasn't going to be up for really heavy housework like mopping or vacuuming, so I got my housekeeper to come for an extra visit to take care of that, change the kitty litter, etc. I napped a lot for the first two weeks and took it easy but I didn't have issues with mobility or taking care of my basic needs.

BG, You poor poor thing !!! You have had a bad pbing, slimming !!! Maybe now that you're home, you can relax and things will calm down for you! I have been to Gatlinburg about 3 times I think, and it is sooo pretty!!! Did you go to little town outside of Gatlinburg, I can't think of the name right now but it's maybe 10 or 15 miles going toward Knoxville? It also has several shops and also a really good factory outlet. Take care of your self, and I'll talk to ya later. Sharon

    Questioning myself

You can do it. It is a journey. I got banded on 09/08/10 and have now finally gotten to the 40 lb mark. I see on the post-op forum, that some people only lose a little in the same amount of time that someone else might lose alot. Everyone's different. I've been lucky and haven't had problems with any food. My struggle is mentally, with telling myself to stop eating at 1 cup of food. Good luck to you.
  9. I've had a gallbladder removal surgery so I'm expecting intense pain from gas but otherwise thank you so so so much for your well wishes!!!! I'm glad you're getting to feeling a little better! Yay buddies! I report at 10:30! How is prep going ???? I start in 50 minutes or so! Good luck to you as well! Looking forward to hearing how it went!

9 Days Post-Op Down 14 Lbs This Morning!

Wow, 9 days out thats really great. I'm a nurse as well, but think I will stay out at least 2 wks/10 working days. I have to pull and lift alot in my area ( OR). I didnt tell anyone I was having this done at work, so I don't normally get much help on regular days and not expecting much when I get back either. How do you fit in your meals as we are supposed to sip, sip, sip all day? This is one of my biggest concerns as I hardly get lunch relief, and usually end up eating in the car on the ride home.....

How much did you weigh when....

I am 169. 5'8" and I range from a XXL to a 12. Depends on the label. I think that's okay because when I started out I was at the biggest size you could buy at any store....Okay the last store I could even shop at.... I have not had plastics yet and those in the know tell me I will be a size 6...That scares the hell out of me...i have no shape at all right now and won't when they are done taking the skin off. i am a string bean.....For a girl that sucks... Now they have upped the clothes sizes. What used to be a 10 is now a 12. Even in France this has happened because they are becoming Americanized in their eating habits...... I know this because when I taught English to a couple French designers they told me of the new trend there. Will we ever be happy with who we are, as long as we are no longer obese......I wonder that all the time!
  12. Just goes to show weight and clothes size is not necessarily correlated, even taking height into account. I am 5' 5" and also exactly 151, but I wear a size 10 or 12 pants. When I was 238, I wore a size 22. I am muscular and big framed, but unfortunately lost my boobs and ass after surgery.

How much did you weigh when....

Wow!!! Very intersesting!! I think Height and the way we are shaped play a huge role! At my highest 245 i wore 18/20 top and 16 bottoms!! At 160 pounds i wore a 10 top and size 8 bottoms, my waist is small, boobs are big and I am 5'5

How much did you weigh when....

I'd say (off the top of my head) that I was a comfortable 16 from about 190-210. Tighter at the 210 point, for sure, but I could still squeeze into the jeans. I went down to 14 around 190, and can still wear that (at 177) though they are loose in dress clothes. I have a number of items that fit well in 12s now. My observation is that denim is a full size lower. So, my 12s in denim are quite loose, and I can wear 10s. I expect that when I drop below 170 I will go down another size. My observation is that in the 200s I was at the 16W size pretty frequently, 185 and up to about 205 I was roughly in a 14W, 16…and now that I'm in the 100s it's roughly 10-15 pounds per size. Clear as mud, right? LOL

    Plantar Fasciitis

Yes I have had it for awhile. You never stop having it. But orthotics, exercises, stretches, icing and sometimes cortisone shots can help. Find a great podiatrist. My doctor told me 10 years ago losing weight is the number 1 thing you can do. And he was right. At a size 4/6 and 130 lbs my feet seem normal. I know they are not but no pain at all right now. I always wear shoes with good arches... Even flip flops!

  18. My husband has always been a little insecure even when I was beyond unattractive. I'm sure he has his fears which are of course unfounded but at the same time he wanted me to be healthy and he's conflicted in that. We've been together 18 years, married for 10. I like to believe we can weather all storms.
  19. Believe me... The statement that no one likes the cute fat boys... soooo off... LOL. I can admit I'm a little bit conceited and for the most part I've never been told no. I'm extremely charming and even when I was at a high of 320 lbs and I was single after a 10 year relationship... I met someone in less than a month and November makes 2 years for us. In that one month time period, I went on 10 dates and all 10 wanted something long term... I had to weed out the bad and find who I was really looking for. So I gotta say on that end, don't be insecure. Usually the little people like us because we're great heaters in the winter time... we obviously know how to cook or can get take out really quick etc. I used to love to keep the AC on 60... now 78 is considered cool for me. I'm cold all the time now but I bought a mattress warmer so hopefully it'll go un-noticed that i don't produce as much body heat lol. I'm engaged to a pencil stick. They say opposites attract and I think its true. My last relationship did end because I got so big... but that was for the best, no regrets. I keep asking... are you sure your still going to love me in six months when I'm not as big... the answer I keep getting is yes... and apparently my height was the big turn on. I've heard that husbands get very secure with the wife being larger because they feel like they don't have to worry... they do love you but they don't think anyone else wants someone bigger... then you lose the weight, your a hottie all over again, he's looking at you differently, getting paranoid and jealous and then bam, he thinks your cheating or he just can't get it up anymore... so then I think you need to sit him down like a child... give him a pep talk... tell him that you feel your relationship is lacking in the sex department (this is me being devious ), you expect him to improve his performance and start getting testosterone injections... and I gotta say that stuff is amazing... a few treatments, confidence returns and then you'll have to keep him on a leash and blinders on him like a horse.

    BACK ON TRACK RETREATS????

Very nice of your to respond and thanks for the support. The honest truth is I don't feel good at this weight and I know I am slipping back into bad habits, so I don't want 10 to turn into 15 to turn into 20, because as we all know, it can happen!

    8 days post-op and MISERABLE

AFternoon... It took me a good 2-3 weeks to even feel normal. That weird feeling in your mouth could be Thrush. I had that and so hated it. I had to be put on two medications to clear this. The pain from the gas took, like it seemed forever, to get rid of. When I had my surgery in November, I did not drink any Protein shakes, my stomach said NO ... I did drink every 10 mnutes a sip of Water which kept me hydrated. I cried alot because I lacked the energy, which no one let me know would happen. You will get over this hump, I promise. I, do however, agree with one of the statements above. Please contact your surgeon's office.
  23. @@tobysgirl Holy cow you can go back and find me complaining about losing too slowly and stalling constantly! I finally decided to just worry about what I could control and not what I couldn't and moved on with my life and guess what? I got to goal! And now I'm maintaining about 10 pounds below it for like 9 months! We are all so darn impatient with the process and cause so much undo stress on ourselves, it tends to de motivate and sabotage us. If we just learn to chill and work our programs, we realize that we will get there. And then the hard part starts.....
  24. Congrats! I don't have any active NSVs yet, but I am happy to be able to fit almost all of my shoes now, clothes I haven't seen in over 5-10 years, and chairs that have arms on them.
  25. Wow you both look amazing. Funny we always find fault in ourselves but praise our partner, you both need to take a minute to pat yourselves on the back great job! I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and lost 14 kgs about 30 lbs. I wasn't whinging but did say it was not a lot and my son and I went shopping and he put a 10 kg bag of rice in the trolly when I asked what he was doing he said just demonstrating some of what I had lost.
