  1. I had a revision from sleeve to mini bypass over two weeks ago and have followed everything to a "t" including daily walks and have lost like 3lbs!!!! When I had my sleeve 7years ago I was prolly 15 lbs down the first two weeks!!! Can someone say something to make me feel better ❤️‍🩹

    How many tacos one year out?

    I wish I can weigh in in only 10 days post op But I did want to say I thought I was getting in more liquids post op than I should but now that I’m weighing everything I’m really not. Maybe weighting what you ate if you can eyeball it and recreate it to get a better idea of how much you actually ate? So nice knowing I might be able to eat tacos again! Lol
  3. I have been able to eat more than expected at every given stage since my sleeve so I have to measure my portions still. At one year out I have been eating around one serving of most things. I just made dinner though and those hard taco shells from old El Paso seem pretty big for the serving size to be TWO shells?? I ate one and don’t feel full (but I never do). I am just curious if other sleevers that are over a year out would have more than one?? I guess the amount of meat you get in one shell isn’t much (I didn’t weight it).

    WLS (sleeve) schedule for 4/26th 😁

    I am 5’8” and weighed 220 on surgery day. Idk about you but I know that I have tried every diet out there and may have lost but I gained that plus some. My gynecologist pulled my records for me and I gained about five pounds a year on average for over ten years (that’s as far as they could go back). I knew that if I waited I would just gain more, period. I was one year out yesterday and I am currently 9 pounds from goal (5 from a normal BMI). I never had any heartburn either and I am on medications that I was worried about how they will absorb but so far so good. Not one incidence of heartburn and medication works fine. Absolutely no regrets here.

    I'm in Amarillo with Dr. Blue Schniederjan from Panhandle Weight Loss Clinic. Yes, can't wait until my surgery date. I could have gotten mine done earlier too, but I had to pass my cardiac test also. I had blood clots, but I finally passed the test and got my surgery date. So excited. Sorry you had to postpone yours. But, now I have a fellow Texan bariatric buddy that we can talk to going through this together. It will get here sooner than we think.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

    Hey. I had my surgery in Sept too. My weight loss has slowed quite a bit and at one point it stalled. What I found is that even though I didn't think I was, I was eating more than I had been and drinking more. My body had finally gotten used to the new stomach and I think adjusted itself. So I went back to the basics.... Making sure I had the correct portion sizes, weighing my food/snacks, drinking zero calorie drinks,I also added in weight lifting. Everytime I hit what I think is going to turn into a stall I retrace my steps and also add just a little (and I mean a little) more activity/exercise into my routine. I also make sure that if I'm only going to eat a little it's protein. Also, I remind myself that I'm trying to maintain my muscle and build more while losing fat so if I've lost a lot of fat since surgery it makes sense that the further out I go, the less there is to loose and the longer maybe harder it will take. You will get out of your stalls I promise!
  8. I agree with @MiniGastricBypassDude and @catwoman7 my program is a balanced diet of all food groups once you get through the post-op stages and onto "normal eating". They only stress protein first then veggies and then if you have room you can have carbs/fruits. I believe each program has their own suggestions and I am sure have their reasons. There are tons of way to loose weight but when it comes down to it, it is the calorie deficient that allows you to loose weight.

    Nuclear Stress Test

    So i got a automated phone call to call the hospital so they can review my insurance and see what my cost will be for the stress test... I do that. They said all my appointments were cancelled. I was like uhhhh no one called me to tell me... after back and forth its because apparently there is a weight limit for the Gamma camera table of 250lb and i weigh 315lb. I mean i got weighed at the cardiologist office yesterday and it was in my paperwork... So now they rescheduled me at another hospital. So annoying they cancelled without even calling or anything.

    Weight loss after surgery

    I'm 3.5 months out and two inches taller than you, and I've been averaging -10 pounds a month. My 3-month checkup was last week, and my NP was very happy with my progress. As others have said, your starting weight will make a difference. Any loss is good loss; sometimes it'll be slow, sometimes it'll go faster. It's mostly about whatever your medical team says is healthy. I'm happy with my rate: I won't be able to avoid loose skin entirely, but I'm hoping to minimize it!

My cholesterol went up immediately postop to a little bit to where he told me to watch it and the surgeons office told me to take fish oil but someone on here said it could have to do with the rapid weight loss somehow. First of all, you're at a lower weight than a lot of us are, so you're not going to see the huge drops that someone over 300 or 400 lbs is going to see. that said, I was over 300 lbs - and I'd lost 28 lbs when I was eight weeks out, so it wasn't much more than you - and I started out WAY heavier...
  13. I had a similar experience pre-op. Thankfully, I have not had huge return to hunger and cravings in the 6 months since my surgery. I think a lot has to do with my water intake. I drink an obscenely high amount of water which I think keeps me relatively full feeling. I taper off the water about 45 minutes before meal time, have my meal, wait another 45 minutes and hit the water again. Follow what the team tells you to do and you will end up losing a lot of weight. I am 96 down and looking at losing another 12-15 and levelling off. Good luck.
  14. I am sure you did it without knowing. There are a lot of foods built into these reccomendations that are carb heavy to avoid. Most obvious is bread. I am sure you did not consume the same amount of bread before and after the surgery. Bread is the #1 enemy when it comes to carbs. Same with pasta and rice. Most weight loss plans eliminate these or replace with different types like soy, chickpea, lentil etc.
  15. Two months out from surgery I'd lost just under 30 lbs (does not include what I lost pre op) and I am significantly heavier than you. I think you are doing great. I know we all come out of surgery wanting weight to just disappear instantaneously, but that's not how it works. Have you connected with your program in terms of where you are with calories, protein, etc? If you are exercising a lot, you may also need to consult with them on their preferred protein and calorie intake while doing intense exercise. Mine advises to increase calories when engaging in intense exercise. I'm not low carb, because my program doesn't emphasize it (they push balanced eating, though obviously protein is the preference at all times).

    Working out and eating too much

    A good rule of thumb: if you're hungry, eat. Choose something good, eat slowly, protein first - you know the drill. But being hungry simply isn't sustainable, and it's why most of us got to needing bariatric surgery. Restrictive eating --> hunger --> giving in to the hunger ("oh to h*ll with it") --> gain weight --> eat restrictive ("oh no, I have to eat LESS!"). You see the problem. Your body said it needs nutrition. Listen

So in general, bypassers seem to drop more rapidly at first, and then taper out - whereas sleevers in general do seem to have a more consistent weight curve during Year 1. Within these averages, there's a LOT of variance. It seems like you're doing everything you can, so definitely don't stress about it. Are you tracking your food?

    Feeling kind of devastated…

    Thanks for the reassurance. I know I just have to give it time. I can’t even stand up straight yet because of the panniculectomy, so it’s hard to tell. I did a bra fitting, though, and came in at barely a C, while still swollen. My body shape has changed so drastically, from a lifelong hourglass shape to something that looks like R2D2. I feel like I want to hide when I go out. I imagine this is how women feel after mastectomies, and I’m ashamed to liken my experience to the terror they must go through. However, there are support groups for that! I chose this!! I’m trying to adjust to the new normal, but it’s going to take a long time. I said before surgery that it’s one thing to look bad, but it’s another to look weird. I wasintending to not tell people I had this done because I thought at a DD I’d just look like I lost weight. Every single person I have ever met is going to know instantly that I did this. I just want to crawl into a bag. BTW, I’m in my 60s, too! I should just let it go!

  20. OMG I am 8 weeks post op and 22 pounds down and I’m so confused. Shouldn’t I have lost more weight by now? I’ve been exercising and working with a personal trainer everyday for the last 3 weeks. I’m really unsure if I’ve stalled or if the sleeve has failed or if I’m right on track. So frustrating. Please help.

    Working out and eating too much

    I'm definitely hungrier when I've been doing intense exercise - and Crossfit is intense! Your body is burning up a ton of calories with that - so you'll have to find the balance where your body is getting what it needs - and you continue to lose weight. I agree with the person who suggested you have a chat with your dietitian. I don't think 1600-1700/cal a day for someone doing CrossFit 4x a week is too much, though. Are you still losing weight? If so, this may not be a problem. But talk with your dietitian.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

    I had my op 15 Sept - and was doing so well for the first 3 months. Weight loss slowed in Dec and on a stall since Jan. I started at 93Kg - and sat at 73Kg. So lost around 44lbs. I have at least another 10Kg to go - but am also worried about the length. Feel like it just stopped working. Other seems to have lost double and who started at same weight so a bit disheartened ☹️Will need to see dietician.

    March 14th Surgery date

    I think everyone on this site who is close to their operation date is all of the above. I am the same if I am just going on holiday or Christmas is coming. Just use your extra energy cleaning your home and such because you will need to rest and relax after. You haven't long to wait now and then you can join us on the other side. Dropping weight and clothes sizes. Now that's exciting. Let us know how you get on, good luck

    20 pounds in two months

    OMG me too 8 weeks post op and 22 pounds down I’m so confused. HW: 275 pre-surg w: 257 CW: 235 shouldn’t I have lost more weight by now? I’ve been exercising and working with a personal trainer everyday for the last 3 weeks. I’m really more sure if I’ve stalled? If the sleeve has failed or if I’m right on track. So frustrating. Please help.
  25. I was sleeved in Dec. 2016 and did extremely well at first - I dropped about 120 lbs in about 6 months, reaching my goal weight. I had some personal/professional issues including losing my job, starting and losing my business, health issues with my kids, etc. and I slacked off and just started eating like crap again and gained almost all the weight back. I had GERD both before and after the surgery but was maintaining it with esomeprazole. I got the revision to bypass in Nov, 2021 and as of today am down a little over 65 lbs. and the GERD is gone. As for your questions: 1) Your reasons for conversion from the sleeve to bypass. - My doctor said I was eligible for a second surgery and that he needed to do an endoscopy to see if the sleeve was dilatated (enlarged). If it was, I could resleeve or switch to bypass. If it wasn't, I'd have to go with bypass. They checked and it was enlarged so I could get either one but he recommended the bypass due to the GERD and potential future complications with long term use of the medication or effects to my esophagus from the GERD. 2) What was the post op period like compared with sleeve? - About the same. I think I felt a little worse right after the surgery because it was longer. My sleeve surgery was 26 minutes, the bypass was about 3 hours. It was supposed to be a little over an hour but there was an issue with one of the stapling devices not being able to reach a certain area so the doctor had to suture by hand which took longer. I believe I felt much groggier and a little more nauseous, but after the first day it was pretty much the same as the first time. 3) What is the best and worst part of having the bypass? - Best part is losing weight again and feeling healthier. Worst part was having to go through the surgery again due to my own screw up. Also this time they put a drain in my stomach for a week which wasn't fun. 4) Any dumping issues? - Not even once.
