  1. Thanks for the encouragement. I am now starting day 3 and I am happy to say......so far so good. As of this morning I am down 5 lbs. My goal for these 2 weeks is to lose another pants size. To my amazement, one of the girls at work noticed my jeans were getting "baggy in the butt". They were brand new jeans that I've only had for a couple of weeks. (I bought 2 pair). I started this journey in a really tight 24W. I've gone down to a loose 20W. OMG, OMG, OMG......Size 18 here I come! All this and I am still pre-op. Woohoo!
  2. Congrats on getting banded! I had my surgery on August 17th so I am in the mushy foods stage. I actually just went to the doctor today with the exact same complaint and they told me it was perfectly normal. Their advice was to treat the weeks before your first adjustment as a diet and to watch what you eat and make good food choices. Also, just to let you know I did gain weight since starting "real" food so don't get down if that happens. They said it was perfectly normal for that to happen and that this isn't the weight loss portion of the program. Good luck with the mushy foods and congrats on 20 lbs. That's awesome!

  4. Wow ! Great ! Congr! I wish my self to lost 150 pounds . My surgery was in April 3 2013 , 5 weeks ago, I lost in3 weeks 27 pounds, last 2 weeks nothing I don't know this possible ?
  5. thank You I'm finding also that I am pushing my self too hard it's important on the weekends for that Saturday or Sunday for me to take one day and just sit it easier for me to get in all my fluids when I'm sitting down and relaxing all day at home rather than running around all week . I have to kind of slow it down . Also pintrist I was looking at the puréed stuff on there for bariatric some of the stuff on there looks preety good . I will defenitly run it by my nutrionist first but Interesting. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I attended Dr. Titus Duncan (Atlanta Bariatric) seminar on wls three weeks ago. The only call I have received from his office is to verify my insurance member number. I know my insurance cover wls because I called and checked myself before pursuing this journey. The only thing left to say is either Dr. Titus Duncan staff is not doing what they suppose to, Dr. Duncan is just too busy or he is not interested in treating me. Either way I am not going to let this discourage me because I am on a journey to better my health and life. I am now looking for other surgeons to research and get you all opinions on in the Georgia. I feel I have wasted enough time waiting on Dr. Titus Duncan and his staff to get in touch with me. Please share your surgeon and experience in the Georgia area with me if you don't mind. Thanks
  7. Wow surprised you tried to go back to work so early. Tomorrow I will be 1 week post op and I feel very week. Still sore at incision sites too. I have 2 weeks off. If there is any way you can take more time you should. Very important that you let your body recover. Big hugs. I hear things get better when we can consume protein drinks. For me that is tomorrow so really hoping I feel better soon!

10 day Post Op appt w/Dr.

Well...let's put it this way. I technically should be on my full liquid diet. Then, mushy foods for a week. But...talking with them, they made me understand that if I did this, I would have to pick and choose my foods VERY carefully (soft, etc.). Which, I did (fish and soup). I chewed them up BIGTIME. I think they were just very pleased with my health so far and the outcome of my surgery and the way I'm handling things. I think they sort of made an 'exception' for me. The nurse said I probably needed to puree my food for the mushy food week, but that if I didn't.....it certainly wouldn't kill me. Basically.....it's all about good choices that I will be making. I know not to eat Doritos and things like that. he he he. It'll be very soft foods for a long time (and that's my choice).

  11. K I'm at a loss. Getting very frustrated. For the last three weeks every time I eat anything I vomit. It can be just two bites and I'm vomiting. It has hone from hard core vomit to the foam and slimed then throw up. I had finally had all I could take and went to my surgeons office on valentines day. Told them how nauseated I was and how I vomited an had horrible pain in my breastplate and back. They gave me something for nausea and sent me for an endoscope. The endoscope showed a slightly tilted esophagus and a need for a little dilation. Nothing major. Weekend ok not vomiting as much. Tuesday afternoon (when I had my 3 small kids with me) I thought I was having a freaking heart attack. Went to the ER everything ok but X-rays showed a huge air pocket in my stomach or intestines. Said I needed to go to the bathroom more. I haven't been since Monday the 20th and have been taking fiber and stool softeners and still nothing. Go back to surgeon on Wednesday and he wants a barium swallow now. I am still not able to eat without getting slimes or vomit. Not as nauseated as before. I go this next Thursday for the swallow. Was told to just keep fluid down if u could until we see what's wrong if anything. Really? Obviously something is not right or I could eat Help!! Suggestions???

  13. Im just starting my revision process, from lap band to gastric sleeve. I'm waiting on the insurance approval. I have UHC Choice Plus. I'm really excited this change. Not that I don't like my lap band, cause it has helped me to lose some weight, but I'm just not where I want to be. I have been at the same weight for a year now and that is 218. I started at 261 three years ago. So I need some change!! I'm just hoping I get approved!!!

    1 week post op

hi everyone! i am 1 week post op and down 12 lbs! each day i felt was getting better and better, until today. i dont even want to eat and i keep getting this terrible pain in the middle of my stomach. is this normal? any advice? - i am also super tired all day long.
  16. I had my surgery last Tuesday. A little disappointed that I have not lost more weight. Gained coming out of the hospital because of the IV's, I am sure. Guess I wanted it to just fall off...guess that won't happen since it didn't come on over night. Still on liquids for another week before I get to puree my food. My doctor was Dr. Monte Schwartz, Tucson, AZ.
  17. I had soreness (not pain) along the staple line.....if that's all it is, I wouldn't worry too much......you need time to heal......but if you are in pain, true pain, then you may want to call the doctor....good luck on your journey! Those first few weeks are hard.

    16 days to my operation

Sarcaticandsmart, Congratulations on your decision to have Lap-band surgery. I was banded on October the 27. My suggestions for the next 16 days is to follow your doctors orders on the pre-diet. It gives you a nice jump start on your weight loss and prepares you for learning portion control. During my two weeks before surgery I was both excited and nervous. I had never had surgery before and must admit I was scared. I have a long way to go but am so excited to get started, I am tolerating liquids well and still struggle with my protein shakes because I am not a sweet drink person. I strongly suggest you take these next 16 days and find a protein drink you like because taking in your protein is very important to your weight loss and health. I found some unflavored, no odor powder I like that I can mix in just about anything I drink and it does not change the consistency or flavor. Good luck on your journey. Wish I had made my sooner.:hi: Diane
  19. Hi Everyone! Just wanted to check back in at 9 months post op to say life is FABULOUS! I had my sleeve in Aug 2012 and had a complication free experience. Aside from occasional nausea, I haven't experienced any real negative side effects. I work out 5 times a week with weights and cardio. I had a breast reduction and lift on Friday and I can't believe how amazing I feel. I started my journey at 5'6" 235 lbs. I'm now 160, with a goal weight of 145. I've attached updated pics, although they are pre breast reduction. So, now I look and feel slimmer. Anyhow, just wanted to share a positive, complication free experience. Dr. Mueller in San Diego is excellent! Good luck everyone! Oh and take your vitamins!!

14 Weeks Out and major stall

Maybe try to drink more water, exercise more. Make sure you're keeping accurate track of all that you're consuming. It could just be your body adjusting, maybe you're still losing inches even if you're not losing pounds, which I know firsthand how frustrating that is. If all else fails, what I have done and has worked for me is to eat more calories for a few days, for me It was anywhere from 1200-1500 calories, and then go back to 600-800 calories daily, and the scale would start moving again. Of course I would gain a pound or two initially with the upped calories, but when I would go back to the 600-800 range, I'd lose those few pounds easily and them some, and then continue to drop steadily...until the next stall hits lol. Good luck!
  21. I had my surgery 2/18/2014. I have been stalling for the last 4 weeks. I'm down 42 pounds since surgery. Has anyone else stalled this long before? What should I do?

13 Days To Go On The Liquid Diet

I took your advice from earlier this week to just keep drinking fluids. I'm not starving anymore. When I feel real hungry I'll have a Protein shake and in between that sugar free flavored Water, broth or just water. Thanks.. Oh and I'm down 8 pounds. I haven't lost any weight in years. Yay!!!
  23. Potentially stupid ? alert...does taking three Viactiv chews at the same time have any impact on weight loss? I have been told to take three - one in AM, one midday and one in PM, but my work/life makes that hard, so I take all three at the same time along with my chewable multi. I am 7 weeks out overall having good results but pretty slow progress recently, and just wondering if anyone thinks it could be related?

How do you reach your fluid and protein goal?

It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. Be willing to experiment. After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. Sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate hot drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good. The fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the protein shakes. It is the water component of the soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day. Many experience problems drinking protein shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate. I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure. If you tried all the various varieties and still are unsuccessfully, then there is the fallback of fortified milk. 32 ounces of 1% milk fortified by adding 1 cup of dried milk provides 56 grams of protein. It also takes a dent out of meeting the fluid requirements. Mix up a pitcher and drink a little throughout the day. Without sufficient protein, your body will scavenge protein from other areas of your body, such as your muscles. Protein is extremely important after surgery as its job in the body is to build and maintain tissues including your body's major organs and skeletal muscles. Protein deficiency, when continued over a long period of time can cause a disease known as protein caloric malnutrition. Common symptoms are poor healing, fatigue, hair loss and muscle wasting. Immediate post op, protein promotes healing of the staple line and incisions.

    1wk post-op!

I had mine done a week ago as well. Just getting to the point where I can tolerate chicken broth so I was able to meet my liquid goals. I am able to do sf popsicles and sf crystal lite. I tried at Jello and it tasted horrible. Not sure if it was just the flavor or what. I was thinking of trying some Soup today. What Soups are you having success with?
