Is It The Band, Or Just Me?

I have had the same problem. What I do is slowly sip on a hot fluid (like tea). I stay on fluids for 24 to 48 hours before reintroducing yogurt and other soft foods. I'm not sure why this happens either. Also try papaya enzyme tablets. They have also been helpful for me as well. Hope this helps!

    Really this many pills!?

I understand those are the guidelines are you. But does it mention exact doses of supplements you may need? If that's the case you can check out Bariatric multivitamins, and these more or less includes most that you may need. I take "1 bariatric multivitamin and Vit D3". B12 and all not needed since bariatric special takes care of it. Bariatric special also has the kind with extra "iron" if that's a requirement for you (Check out Bariatricpal once a day multivitamin, I consume Naturelo brand once a day kind). Even with calcium, if you try to consume more dairy, you may be able to cut down on the calcium supplements. I don't take any extra calcium since I consume a lot of yogurt, cheese and milk (Vegetarian diet). My nut stated as long as I am getting more than 1200mg a day of calcium, I don't have to take any extra supplements. The day I am lacking, I can take calcium citrate as needed. I know calcium supplements are about half of the pills for you. If you can't cut down on those, may be try the chewables ones, so it feels like you're having chocolate or something instead of swallowing gigantic pills.

    Anyone for August 2020

I just wanted to update for those who are headed to surgery soon. I am one week and a day since sleeve surgery and I’m pretty much feeling 100%. I didn’t really ever have pain from the wounds. I did experience gas, I wouldn’t call it pain but it was very uncomfortable. It lasted about 24 hours and got better with walking. I had minor pain when I left the hospital but Im a single mom with a one year old and it was hard not to pick him up. I had to lift him onto the changing table, give him baths, etc you know regular mom stuff. That pain subsided pretty quickly too and I didn’t have to use pain meds much. Being on liquids again for another 2 weeks is the worst part but it’s not unbearable. It was difficult for me to get a protein shake down this first week. They just felt heavy and sweet and weren’t setting right but I kept trying different ones and found ones that I could tolerate. Protein water has been a life saver. I found some sipping soups yesterday that have been helping me feel more satisfied. I also talked to my surgeon’s office and they told me I could try some Greek yogurt and that went well today. I went back to work day 6. I’m a teacher and all my student are virtual for now so I’m basically just sitting in front of a computer all day. I was feeling really tired like I needed a nap midday and then super exhausted when I got home from work but not today. Today I felt great. You feel better every day. I’m just so excited to start seeing results. I have lost 11 lbs since surgery.

    Breakfast Parfait

I had no idea about this, thank you. Ok, so then really, the only thing that was an "issue" was the sugars in the yogurt? I'll have to ask my nutritionist tomorrow when I see her about how she wants me to track fruits. I've been just looking at the grams of sugars, not the ingredients.

    Late December Sleevers?

Omg! Me too!!!! The doctors saw me yesterday, did barium xray...he was there and saw his beautiful master piece. There is nothing wrong....he prescribed me Nexium. You will not belive how much better I have felt today. Just two doses. I do tend to eat strange foods....I just eat small snacks, instead of a so call breakfast, lunch and dinner. I make cornmeal malt o meal style with about I tablespoon of fat free creamer, 1 cup water, 1/2 tsp salt 2 packs equal. Simmer down to a smooth thick and creamy...hit's the spot. I only eat about two oz. Then about 30 min later an oz of protein Premier banana or chocolate drink, and some water. Two hours later 1string cheese...1/2 container of sugar free jello. Today I ate wonton soup and a half mush noodle..not the meat part. Then about 2 hours later another string cheese and a half oz of yogurt. And at night 6-7 jello, 1/2 cup mash potato with a bit of mayo and Parmesan cheese. Lots of sips of water thru out the day. I most 21 pounds since 12/29. Do not eat fast, do not eat too much and don't drink water while eating. That will make you burp and choke and vomit. Is like pushing too much too fast through a small funnel. Thathe is what made me miserable. The doctor also told me, not to worry if i dont get enough calories or the protein, just drink at least 40 oz of water. I hope that maybe helped !

    Late December Sleevers?

I’ll be two weeks Tuesday and my nutritionist says I can start purée then. I’m, so tired of not real food, I find myself not eating at all, instead of the yogurt or shake. Also I’ve been drinking this protein water and I think it gives me gas. Anybody else?

    How much can you eat?

My meals vary. I usually have a low fat/no sugar yogurt with a spoonful of granola for bfast. lunch, lately its been a chicken tender and mixed veggies, or a small frozen WW meal, I usually cannot finish it. Today its a small container of tuna (2.9 oz.) with some FF mayo - just a little, and a few multi-grain crackers to go with it. I will probably wait a few hours and have a pealed apple too. dinner, I can eat more, I have to watch my portion control for dinner. I usually have whatever we are having for dinner but put it on a small plate and force myself to eat very slow. This helps me not overeat. The one thing I have noticed, I could always eat more even with great restriction, but I try and listen to my body. When I'm no longer hungry, I stop, I try to see how little I can eat vs. how much I can eat. The key I've also found is Protein FIRST!!!!!! Also, when you first get banded, you will only be able to eat a few tablespoons, enjoy it.....that will end. Try and get your fluids in too. I try and sip Water all day, this helps my pouch stay busy.

    February 2014 bandsters?

Glad you are feel better! I just started full liquids today but I still have tons of pressure and bloating so I'm getting full off 3 teaspoons of yogurt. I've been walking and walking but it's not budging. My dr. Told me to get some miralax to help me get some relief. I can't wait to feel better!

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

What do you add to your chicken and tuna salads? I thought of adding sour creme? or maybe unflavored yogurt, then again the low fat mayo would probably be more to my liking. Do you add veggies to it..like onion, pickles, eggs?

    February 2016 sleevers?

Me too! though I'm here until Sunday. The mentioned I shoild try drinking water today (I had my leak test) and that they'd try me on some thin yogurt drink thing tonight, but no drink. Given that I've been zipping water and it still kind of hurts I'm glad though. I'm home now! They started me on this 15g protein shake - it was fruity and actually good. Plus broth, jello and Popsicles. I had to focus on the shakes yesterday and got two in. Just drank one on the 1.5 drive from San Francisco to Sacramento. Taking a break and will just sip water. This afternoon ill try to drink a premier protein shake. It has 30g of protein in it so if I can't get anymore after that im OK. Hope they get you your yogurt drink soon. Does it hurt when water goes down or your whole stomach? yay I found this thread again!

    Non sweet protein

I'll definitely look into Isopure and Unjyry, thanks guys! - that's a great idea to add it into soup and yogurt too. I did try adding some off brand "grass-fed protein" (not sure, it was the only flavorless protein I could find when I first had surgery so we grabbed it so I could add it to clear liquids) but it clumped terribly in the soup. I did try some premier mixed with coffee, but I'm not a big fan of coffee so it didn't help too much. Though I was able to get more down than I could normal ones! Thank you! I need to go update my ticker, I was super excited! I started swimming for more exercise too!

    What are your go-to foods?

Everyday I have an oikos triple zero yogurt, a premier protein shake, cheese sticks for snack, and lately I've been loving chicken sausage from aldi. 1 link is 15g protein & the flavor is really good, my current fav is tomato basil. I also eat Starkist Tuna Creations pretty regularly. I try to get the most bang for my buck when it comes to protein. I also keep a bag of lightly salted edemamae in my purse.

    March 2019 sleepers

3/12 here. Doing great. Just started eating black bean soup and yogurt and protein drinks yesterday after 3 days clear liquids. I have no pain most of the time. I’m able to do laundry. I get tired easy. I take a few naps now and then. How are you?
  17. @Rose57I had the traditional DS almost 15 years ago and the answer is yes regarding help. I had my mother stay for about a week. I was too tired and weak to do much. She made my meals (which was a tsp. of scrambled egg for breakfast 😁), kept track of what pills I started on and crushed some into a tsp. of yogurt as I recall. She also pushed me to get up and walk outside several times a day. I needed her to clean myself as well.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

My dietician didn't give me any macro or calorie specifications. Instead, I was given diet for diabetics. Daily intake is 2 servings of milk product, 2 servings of fruit, 5 servings of fat, unlimited nonstarchy vegetables, 3 servings grains/beans/starchy vegetables and 7 servings of protein. Have a list of what makes a serving size. Example, one fat serving is small avocado, 1 Tbsp nuts or seeds ot 1 Tbsp salad dressing. One grain/beans category serving is 2 slices of whole wheat bread, medium baked potato, 1 cup rice or pasta Milk serving is 1 cup nonfat plain yogurt or skim or low fat milk. One serving of protein is 1 egg, 3 oz lean chicken or fish, hard cheese Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

baylormom - i bought unflavored soy protein at GNC for $13. i add it to soup and yogurt for xtra protein and it can get clumpy but it doesn;t bother me too much. i hate Isopure it leaves a film in my mouth. i'd rather add protein to other things. ericsmom - keep your chin up is you can;t vent to us who can you vent to?!? you're doing great! although i can;t wait to get off liquids, i worry about hitting a plateau or gaining when i get to mushies. it's a long, GRADUAL process and we have to remember that. karik, you have the right idea! p.s. great job on the bmi points!

Oh goodness. I thought I was the only one that was hungry. I have been terrified that I am screwing something up, I had surgery on 3/29 and I had to move to at least something substantial once a day. I couldn't do Clear liquids. I was needing to have that all day long. Like 6 or 7 times a day and never was satisfied. I had to move right away to food once a day. Usually something like pinto Beans, butter beans. I even had some Pasta....shame I know. I only eat about 1/2 cup and then I start feeling full, so I quit. I can however eat the 6oz cup of yogurt. I thought something was wrong with me. I am so happy to know someone else out there is feeling my pain. Whew! Ronda

    Hawaii pre & post bansters

Im hoping we can work together on this let me tell you a little about my story -- LAP-BAND® 9/2005 02/06 - slip 03/06 - re band throught the past 5 years I have STRUGGLED and the ONLY time i lost weight was when the bad was so tight I barely could drink Water. One day I would be able to eat yogurt, the next day it would get stuck -- it was this way constantly and Id never know what i coul or couldnt eat unless i tried - so in teh end I have a band with 1/2 fill so i can eat normally but it defeats the purpose of even having TWO surgeries because here I am weighig in 10lbs les then my 1st surgery and 10 more then my second.... Just went to the Dr. yesterday and he suggested I look into the bypass revision. He made it sound really good but he also didnt leave out the fact that because it is a revision - the risks are automatically higher for compications. I sit here wondering if my body had this many compications with a simple band who will ti react to a bypass? Maybe I will do great with bypass and i will finally see results Ive been striving to see forever what is I am the 15% that thigs go drastically wrong My job now covers this revision - if I waitr health care might change ................................... I too dont know what to do! Complications? What kind of complications? Like is its "dumbing" more often.. k I can handle that.. If its leakge... that can cause death.. IDK I wish I could survey 100 ppl who had this themself! Help for us both What ever we decide , we r not alone! sry for typos - at work tryign to do this fast w/out boss seeing XD Lisa (yes im lisa as well)

    Any Central Iowa Bandsters?

Follow what your doctor tells you after surgery. I think of my diet as a prescription. Ice chips and sugar free popscyles were good as I had a sore throat from the tube down my throat during surgery.I spent the night because I am slow to wake up after surgery always. I was a little dehydrated so got extra fluids. I only needed tylenol after surgery. Laying down and getting up is a little tricky. Using a pillow under my left side when I slept helped me. I went back to work two half days on days 7 and 8 after surgery and then full time the next week. I have been very tired the first part of this week but better as the week goes on. My surgeon says it is all normal. I ate cream soups, protein drinks, sugar free pudding, sugar free jello, applesauce, water, Crystal light, yogurt. I was not hungry as long as I had enough protein. I have lost 17 lbs which feels really good.I moved on to mushies at 14 days for the next two weeks. I hope your surgery goes well. You are very courage to take this action to improve your health. Carol

    December Post-Op Thread

Hey TXBandit- It is weird how we are all on different diets. . .I had/have 4 days of clear liquids followed by 17 days of all liquids including Soups, blended stuff, etc. Day 21 I go on solids. I am hungry on Day 6. I still have some gas and a growling stomach. I am worried about making it to Day 21 without any solids at all. I figure I will try some yogurt and Jello today to see if it helps the hunger pains. A lot of people talk about the fills being the really important in getting the journey underway for the long term. Will the hunger go away with the fills? I am worried that the hunger is never going to go away:faint:

    Daily News!

Hi all! I have not checked in on the site in a while, so nice to catch up on every body. To my surprise as I updated my weight loss ticker, I see that I am at the half way mark for my weight loss goal, hurray! So looks like I am right on track loosing half the weight in 6 months, I figured it would take me a year. I've been continuing to loose weight steadily, however have been slacking on the excercise. But will have plenty of time for that now, because unfortunately I was laid off on Tuesday. 23 years with a major IT company, ugh. The company is laying off 25,000 people. And living in Michigan where everything is automotive based, the economy is so bad and jobs are rare. Luckily I did receive 5 months severance to tide me over. May just be time to move out of here. Strike ~ I can relate to the saggy jowls. Just noticed that on my neck yesterday, yuck! I'm having a 50th birtday bash for my husband on Saturday. So have been keeping busy with that to keep my mind of the job situation. Went shopping with my daughter last night for a new outfit for the party. How nice it was to shop in normal sizes and I also found I went down another size in jeans. So that definitely cheered me up. I see some of you were discussing what you eat. I can eat very little chicken or beef because it gets stuck, but do well with fish. In the morning I make my self a fat free latte with protein powder or will have scrambled eggs. For snacks I eat almonds, popcorn, yogurt and light string cheese. I can not do without choclate. I treat myself to a few semi-sweet choclate chips occassionally. Keep up the good work.
