  1. Hey, so I am in the early process of the getting the sleeve done. I have two more "supervised weight loss" appointments and my anxiety is through the roof. As a requirement for my insurance, I cannot gain any weight. I go next week for my weigh in and obsessing over it. I was down 8 pounds, and now I am down 5 pounds, but I still have six days to go. And then I cannot gain any weight from the previous weigh in. Anyone else feel stressed about this requirement? The whole point of the surgery is because we cannot lose weight easily or even maintain the weight. Any advice?

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

Do you exercise? That's what made a huge difference for me. With my somatotype, I have to exercise or else I don't do as well. As you lose weight and your BMR decreases, sometimes you have to adjust your calories so you keep losing. That's why exercise helps me so much. Best wishes on your continued weight loss journey!

    Excess skin after WLS

you'll probably have some, but you're at a lower starting weight than a lot of us so it may not be too bad. I had a ton - but then, I started out MUCH heavier than you.

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

I know everyone's calorie intake can vary, but at seven years out, I'd gain weight if I ate 1800 every day (I eat that much sometimes, but if I did it consistently, my weight would start heading north pretty quickly). at a year out, I was eating about 1000-1200 calories/day. You may want to try lowering your calories a bit to see if it kickstarts your weight loss again. You may have inadvertently put yourself into maintenance, and it sounds like you want to continue to lose.

May 2022 Dr. PASTEN ORC- POMPEII

Hi!!! Congrats on taking the first steps. (From my experience) Good - and others Well organized staff and doctors Felt very taken care of from all areas start to finish. Best thing I did — in order you gain control over food and my health Also: Know it’s a tool. You will have ups and downs. Some not fun and interesting things I did not think about Gas Drain tube taken out - after it was a relief !!! heart burn Seeing how much others can and will eat - for me knowing that’s how I was People will ask you when you do go out: are you not hungry? Waitstaff- everything ok with your food ? certain ppl in your life might get jealous At the end of the day remember this is about your personal goal and health path. You don’t have to explain anything you don’t want. hope that helps Tami

    Excess skin after WLS

I have so much excess skin I'm practically tripping on it, lol. I lost A LOT of weight though so go figure!

    Excess skin after WLS

There are several factors that influence how much excess skin you will have: age, gender, weight loss history, how long you’ve been overweight, genetics, etc. I was almost 54 when I had my surgery. I had been at my high weight for about 4 yrs. Before that I bounced between 60 & 75 kgs. When I reached my goal of 60kg I had hardly any loose skin. A little on my inner upper thighs, a little on my upper arms & my tummy. Just little pinches really. I was pretty pleased with myself. Then I dropped the extra weight & there was noticeably more loose skin. I’ve chosen not to have surgery because I can cover the loose skin with my clothes including body conscious dresses & I don’t wear ‘suck it in & hold it tight’ underwear. I do pick clothes that don’t reveal or highlight the loose skin - no shoe string straps, no shorty shorts but they don’t appeal to me anyway. Do people notice or comment? Not that I’m aware of & believe my mum would say something. 😉 I’ve even been told I have lovely arms but then I don’t wave them about in the air. 😁 I look at my loose skin as something I’ve worked hard to earn by losing the weight. I’d rather have some loose skin than carry all that weight. But that’s me.

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

Congratulations on your weight loss that is amazing! Celebrate that Queen because without the surgery you would mid have accomplished that on your own. And don’t compare yourself to others weight loss. All you can do is evaluate your own habits, nutrient intake and your overall diet, if you feel you could have been more disciplined make those adjustments now and continue to enjoy your efforts you look great!

    Sleeve or Bypass? Confused

Sleeve and Lap Band operate under a high pressure system. It puts a lot of pressure on your esophageal sphincter. Some people with these surgeries develop issues with GERD and esophageal motility issues years after having their surgeries. Sure GERD will go away with weight loss, but after years of high pressure on the sphincter, GERD can manifest again. I had a Lap Band for seven years and had it removed a year ago due to GERD and revising to RNY soon.

    Long term success

You are right, its going to be up to me on the success of my weight loss future. I'm starting to look into the keto diet and the meal plan. I do know the dr I'm going too does not want you to eat red meat or pork for 1 year. I'm not sure I can go a year with out red meat lol.

    Excess skin after WLS

Thanks. And congrats on your weight loss journey. My health insurance doesn't cover and weight loss stuff. So I'll be out of pocket on the sleeve surgery that I plan on getting soon. I'm hoping my extra skin won't look to bad 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Sleeve or Bypass? Confused

I actually had severe diagnosed GERD for nearly 20 years pre-surgery and took ridiculous amounts of PPI. I also had my heart set on RNY because I was under the impression that VSG wasn't an option. My surgeon gave me the choice, saying that post surgery, once I lost the weight, the GERD would go away. I chose VSG. I'm glad I did. During my surgery I also got a hiatal hernia repair and a fundoplication. Once I lost my weight the GERD was GONE. In total transparency, I've had a small amount of regain and it DID return but I'm working my way back down so meds are also gradually decreasing. The main reason I'm glad I did VSG is because I had absolutely ZERO complications, no healing issues, had no malabsorption and just felt great in general. I did eventually develop lactose intolerance, but I'm told that can happen with either surgery.

    Excess skin after WLS

I do have excess skin, 8 years post VSG and swore I would have it all taken off. In total transparency, I had a small amount of regain so I'm focused on getting back to where I should be, but then I will be taking it off. Sadly I carry ALL my weight around my middle and so my excess skin literally looks like deflated balloon. I have different insurance than I did at the time, due to advancing my career, but the insurance I used to have would cover skin removal IF you lost 100 lbs after surgery. They're all different. I don't wear compression garments or anything but have gotten expert-level at buying the correct shirts that are billowy and flow-y so they hide it. For now..

    Post surgery weight gain

Sadly my surgeon was right! It’s exactly one month since my surgery, I’ve gained 10lbs since my surgery. It was not the liquids from my surgery. I’m disappointed and frustrated

    Long term success

Wow this is great to hear. I know that everyone's weight loss journey is didn't. I'm going to be self pay and that a lot of money to just turn around and gain it all back. So I'm really scared that I will fail.

    6 months out

your 6 months out and your sidebar says you started at 477lb and lost 162lb and are currently at 315. That is amazing for only 6 months. Keep it going. home scales are not always accurate and many people end up in a stall where they wont loose any weight for a little while. Thats normal.
  17. I am 6 months out and I feel that am not losing any weight is this normal to feel like this ? My scale I have 2 of them and they both say am different when I weigh myself and sometimes I feel that am not gonna loss anymore wight is this normal to feel like this ?

    What Led To Revision

I had the sleeve 7 years ago. I lost 90 lbs. I gained back 70. I have terrible Gerd. My surgeon told me a few years out that the sleeve did what it was supposed to do and i won't lose like weight again. I went to a new surgeon and he recommended a revision to bypass. I'm 6 days out. I hope to hell I can maintain this time.
  19. Is this stupid to focus on? I'm really working on not obsessing over my weight and calories and just trying to listen to myself but obviously it's good to have some idea. I'm 22 days post op and in pureed foods right now. I can eat about 650 calories a day with no feelings of fullness/restrictions. I can't remember what number my dietician gave me, I feel like it was 700 but I'm waiting for her to reply to my message. I'm feeling guilty for eating over 600 calories for some stupid reason. I know everyone's journey is different. Anyone else experience this anxiety? How many calories should I be eating in pureed food and protein drinks? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. I'm sure I've bored everyone to death with this before, but we get put outside to sleep our naps when we're kids. Until school starts when we're 6. Also in sub-zero temps. Also when it snows. When our moms go to the store, they leave us outside in the pram to sleep. So until I had surgery, regardless of weight, my preferred bedroom temperature was 8C / 46F. Just on the cusp of being able to see my own breath.
  21. Thank you Teeva,🌷 I can feel like I have lost weight and everybody tells me I look like I have lost, but I am so used to get the scale validation, it may not be healthy, like you, my sisters recommended me to weight myself less often, to avoid wrong decisions while chasing a smaller number. I had some other issues yesterday I went to ER ( long story) they found my Potassium was low between other things, today I will follow up with my surgeon and my nutritionist to see what is going on.

Pain under rib cage left side

I have this, it's scar tissue, and more than others because mine was a revision from a band. The eating may place relieving weight on the area. You may want the internal scaring cleared up.
  23. There are a lot of sources that talk about a "3 week stall" that describes a temporary (maybe 1-4 weeks) halt in weight loss right around this time-- don't worry, it's normal! I've read that it's the body reacting and adjusting to the change (and making sure it's not starving). Some people say they have a big drop right after the stall ends and that they have other signs of 'progress' during this time. It might be a good decision to weigh yourself less frequently, like once a week or so, so that you don't agonize too much over the micro-ups/downs. I personally hit this stall for about a week, quickly lost another 7 lbs and then hovered there for another couple of weeks. Keep doing what you are doing, you are totally on the right track!

    Ideal vs Best body weight

Thanks for the post. I loved the video. I haven’t had my surgery yet and I really don’t know what to put as a goal weight. I understood his calculation of 70% of excess. But I missed what is considered my “ideal weight”. Do you use the middle of BMI normal range? My start weight was 198. And I’m 5’4”. What do I use as the ideal weight number to subtract from the 198 .

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Restriction is still there. Don't have to wait between bites. And not having to super-chew the food either. My doctor's guidelines call for food weight instead of volume (which, TBH, doesn't make a lot of sense ). They call for 4-5 oz max weight. For example something like 2 oz of protein, 1 oz of vegetables, and 1 oz of carbs. I would guess that a volume limit would correlate more with the new limited volume of the sleeve.
