I was banded on the 23rd also, with a hernia repair. I'm like you. I don't feel that hungry, but my body seems to be getting weak from lack of food. It would really like something to eat. Soup, and protein drinks are not getting it. Truly the gas is the worst part. I've been walking on the treadmill (very slow 1.5 mph) for 10-15 min every afternoon, when the gas is the worst. It seems to help, and, makes me sleep better. The heating pad, and walking seem to help more than anything. However, I have found that a ride in the car seems to help. I'm like a colicy baby. I'll start burping about a mile down the road. :tt2:

Time frame on what needs to be done before the band to sleeve conversion?
kerd replied to Bremartus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too am doing the revision from band to sleeve due to complications with the band and honestly i think it depends on the office and MD ur working with and their schedules also. i have BCBS and i started the whole process on 10/03/13 & I literally had everything i needed on my list done and my last test (EGD) on 11/07/13. I just spoke to the patient navigator today & we made an appt for me for the surgical consult on 11/21 which i will then get my date of surgery & she PROMISED me my surgery would be done by 12/31/13! Im SO excited but also SO nervous...i dont like the fact that they make u go through ALL of the pretesting and everything else and THEN AFTER u get ur date is when they go for the approval...but from what she told me, she thinks i'll get approved very quickly with this insurance! Im keeping my fingers crossed Good luck on ur journey and hope the process is also quick for u -
First of all - Congratulations on the weight loss - to all of you. I know how hard you've been working and what determination you have. I also know really really well the fear you are facing. I was in the same place 12 years ago. My surgery was 13 years ago this month. I lost 170 lbs and have managed to keep it off - Yeah! I was really afraid of re-gain those first couple of years - especially as my appetite came back. I've roller coastered a bit at times but have managed to stay within about a 15 lb range. Don't let the fear stress you out because that can act as a push into old eating habits. Here's a few things I did to help me stay stable. I changed my eating habits drastically in that first year while I could. I cut out all sugar, went low on the grains, stopped all fast food with the rare exception, and went organic. It was easy to do that in the beginning when I was v. motivated because I kept thinking long term. I set up good solid exercise routines - doing things I liked like biking, dancing, swimming and walking. I continued to do those things because I liked them. I didn't get on the treadmill or exercise bike because I didn't like them and knew I wouldn't keep it up. I also set up and have continued to do a simple weight training routine. I got help when I needed it - used the professionals in my program but also went outside for psychotherapy and life coaching. Lastly I worked hard at not freaking out when I did gain a pound or 2 or even 10! I'd just do an inventory of where I was getting slack - esp. with the rules of the pouch - and trusted myself to get back on track, even if it took me a few days or even a week. I didn't freak out, go into despair and start that downward spiral of beat myself up, eat more, beat myself up more, eat more, etc. This is all simply put here but I put in a lot of work and time and continued vigilance yet learning to let go and enjoy life up to this day. I know I'll never gain back that weight. Good luck to all of you. The fact that you are concerned and looking long term is a great sign that you'll make it!

Exercise, yes that..
thinoneday replied to gettingpissed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The change in weight hasn't changed me whatsoever, but that is just me. . . I've hated exercise all my life and i continue to hate it. . . I do fit it in though, our workplace has a fit for life thing going on that goes like this. . . if you park around work, you pay the full parking rate $10/day however if you park under the bridge 1/4 mile away from work you only pay $2.00/day. . . soooooo I park under the bridge and walk every day it takes about 10 - 15 minutes each way depending on the weather and so on. . . I also do lots of housework and yard work. . . but that is about it, I won't do the gym or do extra walking or anything like that. . . I just find it an inconvenience, but again, that is just me. I do stuff i like to do and if it involves physicial fitness good for me. . . for example not only my yardwork, but i like to horseback ride, swim, do nature walks (at my pace) go to the coast, go tubing, canoeing, etc. . . but i'm sure as heck not looking to exercise. . . -
Not Sure if its the right move...

Welcome to VST! I was taken off of one of my high blood pressure meds when I was discharged. I was taken off the other one just yesterday. I haven't had a Metformin for diabetes since I entered the hospital. It was so cool to me to see my surgeon take me off of all these meds. Recovery? I was out of work for three weeks. To me, I recovered the first week and enjoyed the other two weeks of vacation. And the worst part of the first week was the first hour after surgery. I felt better by the minute after that. I lost 50lbs preop and 34 postop. My waist size before surgery was 62. As of this morning, it is 56. I wore a pair of pants to work this morning I had not been able to wear for over 10 years. -
2 weeks, 10 pounds. I had RNY on 4-27 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oooo Skinny Fingers!! Keep up the good work!! Someday maybe I will get to wear the ring I was actually married in, again. I love my 10 yr anniversary ring - but gee, the first band has serious sentimental value. Congrats!!

Very heavy pre-op ANXIETY
marycw1955 replied to V.V.V.'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't second guess your decision. I am on day 6 of post-op and am on a liquid diet. I haven't felt this good in over 20 years. The surgery had 1-2 days of minimal discomfort. I have been home for 4 days and haven't even looked at the pain meds. I'm drinking my liquids, Protein shakes and Vitamins and for someone who hasn't eaten anything in 7 days, I have more energy than I did a month ago. I'm down 10 pounds since the surgery. I'm not hungry and actually take greater joy in cooking now than I did before. I guess it's my way to rebuild my relationship with food, and this is the first stage. There's never going to be a better time or way to change your life. You can do it, believe me, you will!! Good luck sweetie!! -
I am 3 days post op and my mom bought me two bags of Crystal Light Hard Candy. I am on clears for 10 days. Is it ok to have these sugar free candies too?

Anyone from CT looking to share support?
LAURIE290 replied to LAURIE290's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is so neat! Maybe we can talk back and forth about ideas, experiences, etc... Makes me feel so much better to talk to someone with the same doc. Other people have amazingly different experiences. Anyway, I was so incredibly lucky as far as the appointment timing. I went to the preop, talked to Tishler for about 10 minutes...basically just about any concerns I may have. The nurse came in just after and said "well, we actually have an appointment open 11 days from now. I pretty sure my jaw dropped! Alba had let me know that the norm would be about 2 to 4 weeks after preop for surgery. I was so excited and suddenly scared out of my mind at the same time. Only because I was not prepared to hear that and you do go for a physical with your primary care doc as well as a quick, no fasting blood test within the week before surgery. And, of course, I suddenly realized I need to go food shopping, grab a heating pad, hibiclens, get babysitters, start the liquid diet and so on and so on. Anyway, I hope you get just as lucky! I'm all set now and happy to be getting it over with sooner rather than later. I should tell you that you really do get used to the liquid diet pretty quickly. It wasn't as bad as I thought and two nurses have called from the hospital to make sure I have all questions answered and everything ready. One of them was so nice and we talked for over an hour. She really put my mind at ease about the surgery, etc... Any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask. You're welcome to email me directly too: LAURIESMAILBOX2@GMAIL.COM TY for the support! -
haven't told my hubby yet
Patterba replied to PMOSS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting topic. I just flat out told my husband I am doing this. I have spent soooo many years worrying and catering to my entire family, I decided this is my time. I only wish I came to this point 10 years earlier. Don't get me wrong I love my family unconditionally. But the kids are out of the house, my husband is consumed with keeping his job and I work too. This is my time. I have heard so much about women not putting themselves first. But not this mama ... she is going to the top of the list this time. -
I hate shopping for this reason. When I was plus sized I was a 22 across the board, some brands fit a bit snugger than others but I was still a 22 and a 1X on top, I could go into any of the very limited options we had for plus size clothing and buy a 22 without having to try it on. Now when I go in a store I have to take 10-14 into the dressing room with me. Right now I currently have 2 pairs of 14 dress pants (one fits perfectly, one is huge) and 3 pair of size 12 dress pants (2 fit perfect, one is snug) 2 pairs of size 14 jeans (one fits perfect, one is large), 3 pairs of size 12s (2 are huge and 1 fits okay but sags in the butt) and 1 pair of size 10s that fit perfect unless out of the dryer. I bought them at Sear, Boscovs, Dress Barn, American Eagle and Marshalls and all fit completely differently. So far I've found dress barn to have the best fit to my measurements. I can wear small or medium tops or XL in juniors and Im a size 12 dress.

I can't offer much, I'm only 10 days post op but originally that is what I wanted. After research I decided against the band due to complications, always getting fills, and having a foreign object. The first doctor I went to was opposite as yours. I wanted sleeve by that point he suggested band but was willing, I found a new surgeon as the only reason was band was that surgeon's specialty. I researched alot on here and after my initial thoughts band was never an option. Keep reading and be sure to ask the people who had band to sleeve revision Also to had there are success stories with the band for me though sleeve was the better option.

I’m less than a week from my SADI and I get stomach spasms when I have certain things. Water and broth is fine, liquid Tylenol and jello though both trigger it. It only lasts maybe 5-10 seconds then subsides. I just assumed that I’m still healing and that it will go away.

How much does it cost to have the band removed?
momof4 replied to corinnel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Paula, My insurance did not pay for my conversion. I was self pay for the band and was self pay for my MGB. I didn't know about the MGB until about 6 months after I got my band. I wish I would have known before and saved myself from making a very expensive mistake. The band just wasn't the right choice for me. My body never liked it inside of me and started having weird health problems--which have gone away since getting my band removed. I have lost over 10 lbs. already and my pants are fitting very loose already. The MGB was the best choice for me and I liked the fact that it is easily reversible. That's the reason I got the band in the first place because my husband was terrified of the gastric bypass not being reversible (or easily reversible). Tricia -
