  1. It's official!....I no longer need to shop at Lane Bryant! I was in Nordstrom Rack today with a friend and where do I head as soon as I walk in the door - PLUS SIZES! And then I picked out about 10 tops in a 1x...my friend kept telling me - you are NOT a plus size anymore! But in my mind I still am (was) and I took the clothes to the dressing room. YEP - they were all too big! And shockingly not just by a little! I was shocked and very surprised! Do you mean to tell me that I can go back to looking and shopping in "regular" stores! Talk about a great day and incredible NSV!!!!! Wwwoooooooo-hooooooooo!

    Post-Op Menstruation Issues

Yes, I had my surgery 11 months ago and I feel like I’ve been on my period for 10 months! 😞 AND I have an IUD and didn’t have periods prior to the surgery. My GYN said it would take time to level back out to normal.
  3. Hi folks - I know about fat loss triggering higher estrogen levels, but I am now 20 days post-op and I have been on my period for 19 of those days, starting day 2 of post-op. Has this happened to anyone else? Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I take the generic of Protonix. It's a tiny little pill. I have tried to go off of it and it's no fun.I was on it before surgery, so I see no reason to go off of it now. My co-pay for all generic medications is $10. My pcp prescribes it to take twice a day, but I only take it once a day, so I get 60 for $10.

    I've already lost 9 pounds

I live in Valencia, CA. I'm doing the Options classes at Panorama City Kaiser and surgery will be at West LA Kaiser. I have to do the 12 weeks of classes too. So far, things have been moving along really smoothly. 1/10 referred by PCP 1/24 orientation to Options 2/3 consult with program director/officially accepted into program 2/10 first Options class They have also already scheduled me for my 6 week appointment with the program director. I was told at that point the EKG, chest x-ray, and other tests will be scheduled. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I had my revision on September 10, 2012 and had no issues at all. When progressing through the food stages, as I listened to my body, I did extend some phases by a couple of days and it was well worth it. I have had no vomiting, no sliming, but I also do not overeat. I learned many lessons with the band so the sleeve has been quite easy for me. I reached my goal weight in 6 months less a day and currently am still losing. WOOHOO sleeve!!!

    struggling

I'm not doing well. I've cheated on my pre-op diet everyday. I feel guilty about it, but after struggling with food all my life, I find it really ironic that I'm expected to go solid free for 10 days. Oh well, hasn't happened yet, and I'm scheduled for Tuesday the 10th. Nutritionist told me that they would still go through with surgery but that I would find it more difficult after surgery. Nothing about this has been easy, and I'm still considering backing out.
  8. Hi, I haven't seen any info on this. I have severe anxiety/fear of flying. I have taken Xanax when flying for probably the last 10 years. Considering I live in Alaska and have to get surgery in another state, I am wondering if I will be able to take the Xanax when flying home, 4 weeks post surgery. Does anyone know if this is an okay med to take after surgery? I will of course talk to my surgeon about it, but any info I can have before would be helpful. Thanks!
  9. 5’2 highest weight 216. Had reversal from lap band to sleeve in Sept 2016. I am down to 150 and happy. My Dr told me I would lose slower due to having prior lap band. I have a little bit of extra skin but not enough for me to do anything surgically. I am also 60. I walked everyday about 8-10 miles but now live in Okinawa too hot to walk so I have taken up Zumba. It’s a good exercise for me. I would love to get to 140.
  10. Hey All! I was sleeved on 3/18/19 and have had a really rough recovery. I’m only able to get down about 8oz of liquid a day. I figured out that reflux meds help, but only enough to help me get maybe 12oz of liquids down a day. Protein20, Premier Protein all upsets my stomach. I can get down small sips of water and a popsicle if I eat it slow. I’m post op day 5 and ALLLLL FOOD LOOKS DELICIOUS!! I haven’t had more than a total of 4oz of protein in one day, (today actually), since Sunday, 3/17/19, the last day of pre-op. I talked to my doc today because I was worried about malnutrition and hydration. He just asked me to keep working on clear liquids and would check on me Monday and if I’m still having issues, he would have me in. Has anyone been through this where only water will go down easy? I feel like I just want to eat something!!!! Ugh :(

    Another Canadian, eh

The pain threshold of the average man. lol. I work in a hospital lab and anytime there is someone that faints because having their blood taken, it's a man. We have "bring you kid to work" days and we love to show the Anatomical Pathology Lab. We have some organs on display and most of the kids are fascinated. Every year there is at least one kid that feels faint and it's always a male Green, my Dr told me the pre-op diet was for my benefit. It would make it easier on me for the surgery and that it would help me to be compliant after the surgery. I did OK with following the diet, a few slips, but mostly OK. Some surgeons, I hear, won't perform the surgery until you have lost 10% of your body weight. Anyway if you can, try to stay on the pre-op diet as best as you can. It's for your own good. <<<<<Hugz>>>>>>

To sell out or not to sell out

I saw a commercial for a wl product and it was showing all these before and after pics. One guy claimed to have lost 230 pounds in 10 months. I haven't even met a bander who has done that, so I decided to investigate. After googling his name (Scott R??? - I forgot it now), I found his pics advertising SEVERAL different wl products. Even though I knew that had to be true, I felt angry when I saw it. How do these people get away with this stuff? Good job on your decision. Since we've all been there, we can easily imagine how we would feel to be deceived like that. Technically you could take the product now, and then "honestly" claim you took it, but it would still be wrong. Kind of reminds me of Marie Osmond hawking, I forget, is it Nutrasystem or Jenny? Either way, she lost her weight on Dancing With the Stars. Seriously, was no one watching?
  13. I dont even know if I am posting this in the right area. I need some serious advice. I recieved an explination of benefits from my Carefirst BlueChoice about a week ago stating that my cost of surgery was $6152.56. I was shocked today when I recieved another explination of benefits stating that I owe $1026.00 for anesthesia. Here is word for word of the explination of why it was not covered: Under this members coverage, benefits for any services or supplies related to weight control, weight reduction or overweight conditions are excluded. Sicne it appears that these services relate to one or more of these exclusions, we are unable to provide benefits for these charges. Please refer to your employee benefit booklet. WTH!! I called the insurance company to asked if they cover this procedure. I was told yes! In additon, I was given the guidlines ( 6mo supervised diet and documentation). I only had to do 3 months because I had documentation of 3 prior months of supervised diet. The lady that handles the insutrnace info also checked. I was approved 1 week after submitting my information. So I called carefirst and the lady said she would look at my $1026 claim. After being on hold for about 10 mins she told me an adjustment was made and it would take 20 days. What does that mean. Am I going to recieve a bill for the whole 1026 plus the $6152.56? What should I do? How can they switch crap up like that?
  14. I had Ulcerative colitis back in the day and had a complete large intestine removal 17 years ago. Therefore, I go to the bathroom on average 8-10 times a day. I had surgery on 6/26/2017 and didn't have a BM for 2 days. I was advised to take benefiber (which is awesome because it dissolves completely and you can't even taste it) and that helped. You can imagine that going from 8-10 times a day, every day for 17 years, to 0 for two days made me very scared. However, the GI tract just needs some time to chill out. I hope yours gets moving soon too.
  15. They took mine out of my belly button. Was super bruised and sore, but really started feeling better this weekend, about 10 days out of surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Looking for a surgeon in Rochester New York

dr johnson at highland was very clear with me about everything. he did not sugarcoat anything. he was up front, direct and honest. he was also kind and caring, empathetic, responsive, listened to my concerns and was respectful of my knowledge about medicine and the body. its not required that someone be mean to get their point across. but having worked in chemical dependency treatment for more than 10 years, i understand how people get that way.

    Anthem BCBS Appeal

I did not have sleep apnea... yet. Had a study done about 10 years ago that was "inconclusive". I was not required to attend NUT classes, but our Bariatric Care Center offers free twice-monthly support group meetings with the staff Nutritionist and monthly info mtgs with the surgeon. I voluntarily attended these for almost a year, just to learn as much as I could. At the end of the 6 mo dr-supervised wt loss requirement, BCBS issued a "certification" that was valid for 13 months. Banded three days ago - is this normal?

I had similar pain for about 10 days after surgery. It felt like trapped indigestion that I just couldn't burp up. If you are able to keep liquids down, hopefully you will be ok.

My "so-far" pics.. nervous to post!

Wow, thank you everybody! I've been gone all weekend doing the Rennaissance faire thing that I do every weekend (dress up in corsets and all that fun stuff) and just got home to read all these! it really just filled me up with so much encouragement and happiness! I'm the happiest in my life right now than I have been in a long time.. I mean, I had a great life before and a wonderful supportive hubby, but I just feel happy that I can get around better and can fit into seats a little better and just have the energy to even walk around a dang grocery store.. before I would be in severe pain after 5 minutes.. This might sound weird but if I just lost 10 more pounds I would totally be happy with that.. lol. Thank you all for your kind words.. it made me feel like all this working out and turning that pizza down last night was all worth it. :-)
  24. Hi Everyone, I had my band on 3/15/10. I lost 7 lbs. the first week and 1.5 the second week, and gained 2 lbs back. I was so hungry by the end of week one I started soft foods by the second week. The second week i could drink 12 oz. and now I can drink 16 oz. Has anyone else had these issues, if so, what did you do to get back on track. My first fill is not until April 26th. I can't eat nearly what I could before surgery and seems like I should be at least losing a couple lbs. weekly. I am walking more, but not a lot. I'm trying to slowing build to longer distances. Any input would be appreciated. :bored:

    Stall From Hell

"2bfit"...... I've been there too as far as the stall and very slow weight loss. I know my weight really slowed once I started lifting weights more heavily and started to use creatine (helps muscle retain water and adds water weight). My strength is going back up, weight loss slowed a lot or stalled, but my pants kept getting looser. I knew my body fat% was dropping, so I know with all of the lifting I do and protein I take in (80-120 grams a day), that the little weight that I am losing is all fat. Are you doing a lot of resistance training? If you have the ability to add muscle, this could be part of it, but stay the course, that muscle will help you burn fat. If it's not a muscle thing, just try and pick yourself back up, eat right and exercise, you'll be fine. Like so many people say here, it's not a race. So you hit a stall, at least it's better than putting on 10 pounds over those few weeks. Look at as just a pause in your weight loss and get refocused. I think most, if not all of us have gone through that at some point since surgery. It looks like overall, you've done great! BMI of 41.5 down to 30.6..... that's great progress! Hang in there and don't give up. : ) But I can relate on the slow weight loss, so let me know if you need some feedback sometime. Keep us updated!
