Hey there guys. I'm a little bit discouraged at the moment and could really use some advice. I am 2 weeks post op, just over actually, and I GAINED 2 pounds. I do not have a fill yet. I had my surgery on September 25th, and lost 10 lb in the first week. I then lost 3 lb the second week ( weigh on thursdays ). This morning when I weighed myself, I had Gained 2 pounds. How the heck does that happen??? I am not cleared for exercise until Monday, so i'm sure that will help.. I am still on mushies but can eat some scrambled eggs, soft Proteins and crackers. I am hardly taking anything in as I can't eat more than 1/4 cup at a time. How on EARTH do you gain 2 pounds on mushies?!? I'm SO frustrated. Anyone with similar experiences?? Could really use some support today. Thanks guys! Nicole

I actually lost from the beginning because I stuck to band sized portions. It was hard but I figured I only had to keep it up until the band kicked in, and lo and behold, I ended up losing most of my weight before it actually started working! But yeah, 60lbs in 6 weeks, wt? Lol! I did do a lot of educating of my family and friends and said it would take a long time for me to lose the weight. I think by saying that, and explaining that the band wasn't working yet, most were surprised when they saw me losing anyway. Though the first time I ever got stuck (at 6.5cc) was at a family party and THEN they knew the band was working. Me jumping around like I was doing a rain dance, then throwing up what I had just eaten, was a bit of a wake up call for them AND me!

I feel your pain, but I can top your 3 lbs gained in 3 weeks. I have gained that much OVERNIGHT. During my weight loss phase, I never lost weight at a steady rate. I lost some, lost some more, gained some, lost some, and so on. Food isn't the only thing that affects body weight; not all of that is within your control. Try not to let your scale mess with your head. You're the boss: put that scale in its place. Like, locked in the trunk of your car.

Two Weeks Post-Op Anxiety
serendipity72 replied to Tippytoes78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi my name is Jennifer and I'm 3 weeks into my Journey...I've been following what my nutritionist gave me and it's 4 protein shakes ,I drink all my water and have a couple sugar free ice pops and a sugar free free pudding....It worked for for the first 2 weeks and then i had a growling stomach that keeps me up at night...I got through the third week barely and i'm about to approach the time when i eat real food but feel sick with hunger and had an eggwhite omelet tonight....,it was nice but at the same time i was scared but i'm not sure what i'm scared of ?.? am I eating enough?? I'd appreciate any help... -
In not sure... Sorry for your pain. Ask your doctor if you should be using the protein so soon after surgery. Mine didn't want us to use protein after the surgery for 4-6 weeks until we were cleared from mushy foods. Maybe try to stick with the soups, etc... I know it gets boring, but it will get better! Promise!

Hmmm....my psych eval was about a week and a half ago. I had a test to take...about 800 true/false questions. Then the psychiatrist spoke with me. He asked me about any bouts with depression, suicidal thoughts and my relationship with my parents. He asked me to describe how VSG is performed and if I knew the risks involved. He also asked who would be my main support at home. It was pretty quick. Have not heard anythiung back yet. I was with him a total of 20 minutes. Good luck to you! Feeling ROTTEN this AM, people mention dreaded 3 week stall, NO ONE. mentioned a 14 day Flip-it-All! I feel as nasty rotten today as I should have right after surgery. The thought of EGD and balloon dilatation was mentioned yesterday, instead of marching bravely into Stage 3 I feel like I am. Being an abysmal failure at Stage 2. Liquids I concede may be draining ok, seems like cream of rice and thicker hanging up in "Precious Pouch". Doesn't give a sensation of emptying. Some poachers even say they can listen to their body letting loose with a swoosh into their jeje small intestine, amI still too swollen to feel THAT? Good news - lost 6.5 pounds in a week Bad news- I had to feel pretty crappy to do it. WTFN? Nurse Practioner was making EGD noises yesterday, is that the NEXT step on this journey? Don't want my old plumbing, back, just want this NEW ONE to WORK!

How stop weighing myself daily has helped me
o00 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just wanted to share my experience. I was a neurotic daily weigher for about 15 months post surgery. And this far out it's no more honeymoon. For the past two weeks I have not stepped on the scale. I feel much calmer and peaceful. I'm not obsessing about my numbers on scale hence I'm not getting upset as much and having negative thoughts about my WLS journey. These days I have amped my workouts and I can feel my muscles toning. And it motivates me to keep working out harder and eat right. -
I feel the SAME EXACT way. I am not having surgery until June, but I am starting to freak out now. I'm so afraid the fear is going to make me change my mind. I NEED this surgery. I'm willing to make all of the necessary changes to be successful. It's the first week or so after surgery that is scaring me. AND the possibility of problems up to 2 years later.

Feeling nauseous in the idea of eating....
marlajones replied to marlajones's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thank you all for your time to read through my plight! I pretty much got the responses I expected, so a meet with my doctor is a must hopefully they can get me in for this week. The only problem with anti-depressants is that they start to take effect after 3-4 weeks of commencing the treatment, so it's a catch 22 I guess. Thank you again for your comments, I will try to keep you updated on my progress. -
First- What exactly is sliming? Also, How do you know you need a fill or just need to adjust eating? I have not had a fill in about 6 weeks. I have been losing about 2lb a week ( except for our 2 week cruise where I did not gain!!), and things are slowing down to about a lb. a week. I have not been following any real quantity rules, because I have only been told to eat Protein first, then greens, then carbs. I was told my band would basically limit me to 3/4c or so per meal. And I am so tight in the morning that all I can get down are liquids, or carb loaded things that dissolve very quickly. Protein comes back up every time. lunch is about a 3/4c limit. But I have always had an evening appetite issue and even though my quantities are much better, I am still able to eat well over a cup for dinner. Like I can eat a full cup or more of green salad and still get 3 oz of meat down with no issue at all. Sometimes I can even add a little carb to that. I guess I'm asking if I should get a fill and let my band restrict me more, or if it is something I should kick will power in for and just make myself eat less? I was really hoping to let my band get me to a point where my portions were such that I would not have to worry. That I would simply have to worry about making good choices. What do you all think? Especially those of you with lots of experience?

First Pre Op Appointment, Dr blew me off
Djmohr replied to FindingSassy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For some people throwing up is pretty common on a daily basis. Do you know if it is being caused by something specific at this point? Like a particular food or maybe the type of Protein drinks you are consuming? For me, in the first month I discovered that I was suddenly lactose intolerant. I was having a hard time with heaviness in my tummy and I would begin gagging until I threw up. I also had a very hard time with the protein powders and had to move to a premade shake. I switched to Premier Protein but even then had to use 50 percent Protein Shake and 50 percent lactaid milk. After about 6 weeks I was able to drink a protein shake without milking it down. Also, I was told that if I threw up, I would wait an hour and try something else. That way I was not completely missing my protein. Not sure if any of this helps or not. -

Hi all! I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on August 2nd..in 2 days!!! I just got a a terrifying phone call. Some lady said that she was calling from the hospital where my surgery is scheduled. She said my insurance is covering 80% and I'm responsible for the 20%. (I was already aware of that) Then she said that my 20% comes out to $6,630 and that I had to leave a deposit over the phone of at least half. My surgery center required a deposit to meet my deductible of $3,000. I paid that last week. I told the lady on the phone that I had already paid $3,000, she said it wasn't showing up on her end and that it might've just been the surgeons fee which is not included in the facility fee. I AM FREAKING OUT. I don't have another $3,000 to pay by Tuesday!! I can't call my insurance or surgeons office since they are both closed on Sunday. Has anyone gone through this??? Frustrated, depressed, confused 5 1/2 weeks post op
James Marusek replied to FarmerJulie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You do not need to rush into the transition to solid foods. According to my surgeon's guidelines, I was not approved to transition to solid foods until week 9 after my RNY gastric bypass surgery. It is a hard transition. I tend to agree with you that something is wrong. If you are vomiting up Water, that is not a good sign. The two main culprits are stricture or ulcer. My surgeon recommend that I take the proton-pump inhibitor Omeprazole (Prilosec) for the first year after surgery. This was to help the stomach to properly heal. So if you are not already taking this, you might speak to your surgeon about this need. -
I know that I'm definitely going to have to do something because I'm getting REALLY ticked off. At this point I seen the intern 23 days ago, she was on vacation last week, figure that to be 9 days, then I talked to her on Monday & still have yet to hear from her or my therapist. My therapist is going to call me as soon as he talks to her. I guess I'll see what goes on when I start making phone calls come Tues, though I am going to call tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath on anything. Lauri

With time in between appointments and reaching goal weight, ur process will probably take around the same amount of time give or take 2-3 weeks. I think it's a great thing that your program includes a 12 week program, you will be more prepared and informed!

PLEASE HELP! Been in Plateau for 4 months!
aliceinthegardenofpearl replied to aliceinthegardenofpearl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't understand it myself and it's very frustrating to put so much effort and work into it and not see any results. It makes me break down and cry sometimes but I keep going. But I will tell you that I stick to 700-860-some calories a day. Sometimes I'll make it to 900. I write EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth in a food journal and I mean EVERYTHING. Ever since I stalled back in July I have become extremely strict with my diet and sometimes have to force myself to work out as much as I do but I get it in.You have a right to be suspicious if what I'm saying is true but let me tell you that I'm being completely honest with you and completely honest with myself. Even in the liquid phase and mushy phase of my first few months with lap band I was unable to lose weight. Back then I was eating nothing but chicken broth, cream of chicken Soup, sugar free Jello, then moved on too mushy foods such as re-fried Beans, mashed potatoes, etc and was still unable to lose a pound with that kind of diet. I kept my portions to half a cup and 1 cup. I have had my thyroid checked because my grandmother had hypothyroid as well as two of my aunts on my mother's side. My thyroid workup always comes back normal. The only thing that the doctor has told me is that I have metabolic syndrome. But a funny thing did happen one time at my doctor's office. My doctor divides his time between his private practice and the hospitals around my city and he had hired a nurse practitioner. I went one day and he wasn't there so I saw this nurse practitioner and based what I told her about not being able to lose weight she prescribed thyroid medication and I picked it up at the pharmacy and I was happy that I finally had the answer to all my weight problems, but 2 weeks later while on that medication, my doctor called all of his patients that the nurse practitioner saw during that time and asked them to come in to re-evaluate her work and he told me I wasn't even hypo thyroid according to any of my blood workups. I asked him about the nurse practitioner and he told me he had to fire her because in his absence she was diagnosing people with illnesses and conditions that they didn't even have and prescribing medications they didn't even need that could also be harmful to them. So he took me off the thyroid medication and explained my numbers to me and told me I had no thyroid problems. But maybe I should see a specialist such as an endocrinologist just in case. -
Thank you for your post, Penni. Who cannot relate to you??? I sure can. I am the same way -- always ready to jump in and help and often put myself last. But, just this week with healing, I have said no to quite a few things and this is the first Christmas in many years where I am not baking gifts, planning and hosting parties, etc. We are having family here Sunday, but very low key and I am excited about it. I think it is wondeful to do for others and share who we are, but not at our expense. You have alot going on right now -- this entire year you have had alot happening. Of course we get tired and it is so great that you recognize that you need quiet time to recharge your batteries and your soul. It does not matter what spot you chose, just the frame of mind you put yourself in. You can have a retreat in your own home -- I am right now. I am enjoying music, reading, crafts, movies, walking, resting and just being peaceful. I hope you will find a chance to do that soon. Thanks for sharing your tree as I did not put one up this year so I appreciate yours all the more. It is awesome. I love decorating for Christmas. I have other things up and lights outside in trees but I did not think the tree was appropriate this year as I cannot lift much right now while healing. Remember, my post earlier when you put photos of yourself on line for us to share and I said you would be the brightest light for your Christmas tree. You are. Your light bulb is just dimmed a little bit from tiredness, but it burns bright inside. Rest and let that light shine out for all to see. I so cherish your posts here. I always smile and learn from you. You and Delarla are sisters in spirit and compliment each other's personalities beautifully. I am glad she encouraged you to post. We have missed you here. I think everyone is busy as posts are way down -- including me. I have not been posting too much lately either. We will all regroup after the holidays. I am thinking about you and will say a prayer that God will renew your spirit and soul and you will feel rejuvinated. Plus, about the pounds -- remember, doll that muscle weighs more than fat -- with all the decorating you are doing, you probably have lost inches. You are gorgous inside and out. Enjoy the holiday and let us know how all of your plans go. Again, I love your tree and your decorations -- magical. Hugs and blessings to you and yours, Theresa Marie

I have been basically stalled about 3 months. I still need to lose about 45-65 lbs. I have only lost about 5 lbs in 3 months. Can anyone help? Can you share a typical week diet and exercise?
-
Three months ago I got an unfil however the past few weeks I have noticed that some days everything gets stuck then I go on liquids and the next day I'm good. Or I'm able to eat a lot at night but only every other night. I have lost a total of 18lbs the past two monthes and just this past week I'm getting heartburn( I know my mc is coming @ the end of the week). Some days I feel like I have my sweet spot but today I can only sip Water. So the question is should I get an unfil on Wednesday or just stick it out?

Woke Up Feeling So Fat!!
A New New Dawn replied to vmarlau's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just had surgery Oct. 1 ~ you are doing FABULOUS!!! Do you hear me ~ F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!! As women, we are hormonal too and struggle w/ our emotions from time to time. Losing 1-2 lbs per week is good and you are at the high end or exceeding that!!! Try to look at the positives. For me, I desperately want to find my winter ONE-derland but I find other goals or achievements to get excited about. For example, I started this journey with 150 lbs to lose. I now have 90 lbs to lose. For some reason, it excites me to think I have less than 100 lbs to lose now. So find things to Celebrate about your journey. Also, have you calculated your BMI? 30 lbs can make a big difference at improving that and your health!!! Go for a walk or get some exercise to get your endorphines and nature's feel good hormones flowing!! -
Non fill? The invisible fill? The unfill?
LapBandit replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know...this process is hard. Patience is NOT a virtue I possess either! Hang in there and see what happens in a day or two. If you're like me, it might take as long as a week before I can judge whether a fill is right or not. Good luck! -
Non fill? The invisible fill? The unfill?
thatgirl replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am learning the art of patience as well- trying to be patient in finding my sweet spot. Last fill was .4 which felt like nothing- the one before that was .75 and my first fill before that was 1.5... I go in next week for another... I hope it gets me closer. I keep wondering if they are getting any in there! I am sure they are but boy would it be nice to have some evidence.
