    Anyone else not losing?

The doctor explained that I would lose weight like the "stairs", instead of the "slide". It's not going to be smooth sailing all the way down. Our body will lose the weight but we must give it chance to regroup and refit our skins. My surgery was in Feb 2019. My slowest progress so far was on my 3rd month (May). Once June came around, my progress increased again. Good job exercising everyday. Congratulations on losing 55 lbs. I recently lifted a 10 pound potato sack and it was "HEAVY"... So 55 is a lot! Awesome job! Hang in there friend. We'll be skinny someday....soooon!

    Reactive hypoglycemia

I too am experiencing severe episodes of reactive hypoglycemia. I’ve been hospitalized 3 times in the last 2 months. My sugar drops rapidly. It’ll go from 60 to 37 in minutes. Assigned to an endocrinologist team my last hospitalization and have now been prescribed Acarbose & a told to eat 6 small meals, high protein some fat & no more than 30 grams of carbs each meal. Just started med yesterday and concentrating very hard on following diet. It’s basically the keto & I could stand to loose about 10-15 lbs so I’m eager to try this. I’m wearing a freestyle glucosemeter (no pricking) to help track sugar & bump it up before I start feeling the symptoms. I’m also carrying glucose tablets to bump it up quickly. I have an appointment next week with endo to discuss progress & decide if anything additional or different needs to be done. I pray that something can be done because living with this has turned my life upside down. I’m afraid to drive long distances; lots of confusion; no interest in usual activities and also depression has set in. I feel awful that I’ve put my family through this worry simply because I chose to have the surgery. But I would have it all over again if given the choice of being very unhealthy & obese and my life as it is now. I just have to remember that and I’ll get through this! Sorry for being long winded. I just felt if anyone would understand my feelings it would be my fellow bypass friends. Take care, I’ll keep all posted as I go thru this. 😊

    JULY SLEEVERS

July 23 for me. I begin a new job on July 22 and will need to let them know I need to start 2 weeks later. New_Me 2019
  5. Wow, banded 2005 too with the old style band. I lost close to 100 and gained 20 back. Had a tummy tuck, almost died from clots. Then started to gain the weight back. Very slowly at first and when I went in for adjustments I kept getting sick, that was when they admitted it might have slipped, I had to ask to have it removed they never suggested it. My sister had the sleeve and went from size 18 to 10 and was doing great, but decided she wanted to eat her way and drank diet sodas from the beginning. Now she has put on weight and is working to get it off. Her surgery was 2006 or 7. I know I can eat the right way and I've not had a carbonated drink since 2005. I wasn't going to do the surgery but my knees can't take this weight and I don't want to spend the rest of my life sitting in a chair. We have a boat and I can't swim in the lake this year because I can't get up the ladder. So I'm ready for the big step because the rewards are worth it. I have my protein drinks stored up. Do you drink any clear protein drinks? I'm not sure which is better, I can't do artificial sweeteners as I get headaches.

    June 2019 challenge

Day#19 Forgive someone!Hmmn this might take a minute or two. I NOW FORGIVE People who told me I would be unsuccessful at weigh loss I am losing! People who thought I lacked motivation for the WLS at thhisIii point in my journey. People who were certain I would die on the surgical table. That I would go from despair, to sorrow. May your trials. always be minute oh that I no long fev8
  7. I had the lap band for 10 years, after many issues I had I removed a year ago. Then in March, I decided to return to freedom. I find the weight so hinders my ability to do what I want and it came back so fast after the band removal I started the process. It was over a 90-day "diet observation" with dieticians, which I knew more than them as I've done this for 9 years, then meeting with a nurse in food classes. A real eye roll as this nurse had not had the surgery and he was telling us how we would feel. The psych review now the wait. 3 weeks for insurance then schedule the surgery. I was a self-pay last time and only had to do the psych eval. I didn't want to pay again. You will find that as you are losing the weight some will be very supportive, then others jealous as we have all tried to lose but failed. The others will say you took the "easy" way out. I found after my journey then soon discovered it wasn't easy, and the started to look up to me for my decision. I think the hardest thing I had to adjust to was strangers would talk to me in stores, fat people are invisible and I never had strangers come up and start conversations. Good luck and ignore the haters. This is for you and not for them.

    Just sleeved 6-17-19!!

Hey! Looking for a Sleeve Sister or even brother to talk back and forth with! Here's a short story about me- I was banded in 2005 when I was 15 in Tijuana by Dr. Ortiz. Over 13 years, I lost about 70 lbs but by 2018 I had gained it all back. I found Dr. Udelhofen in Cincinnati, Ohio (working under Trace Curry) and he determined my band was slipped. I had no idea, but I believe it. So he removed my band in July of 2018 and initially I wanted to get the sleeve done the same day but decided against it. I didn't want to quit smoking and quit drinking. March/April 2019 I decided I wanted to go forth with it. I stopped smoking and decided to put my alcohol consumption on hold and here I am - 2 days post-sleeve! So far- I'm really not in pain. I feel nauseous more than I feel pain. Last night was terrible - I was in the shower taking off my dressings and got 2 of the 5 off when I felt really sick and dizzy. Thankfully, I'm staying with my parents currently since I'm single and I was able to get my Mom to help me out. But today I feel great. The only time I get any pain is when I'm sitting up out of the chair or getting out of bed. Speaking of bed, anyone else not able to sleep through the night? I typically am a side sleeper but I can only sleep on my back right now. So I'm up practically all night until I go to the chair to sleep. How long will this last for?! Anyone get hunger pains? I typically take a muscle spasm pill when my hunger pains start. Drinking 2 oz of powerade zero / water / protein water every 30 mins. Oh, since I'm new - How do I get one of those little goal tracker things you guys have at the bottom of your posts?~?~?

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Quick update . I had my 2nd appointment since my surgery on April 29th and I am down 28 lbs since surgery and 44 overall. My doctor and dietitian said everything is going well and cleared me for all food and weight training. I have been spinning 2-3 days a week and on other days I do the treadmill and elliptical machine. I will begin exercising with weights this week. Food wise I get in at least 53 grams of protein ( but need to increase to at least 60 grams) and 48-64 oz of water depending on my day. My next appointment is at the end of July and my goal is to be below 200 by then. I hope all of my April buddies are doing well and wishing everyone the best of health. Surgery date 4/29/19. Starting weight 260 lbs Surgery Weight 244 lbs Current weight-216 lbs

    1400 calories for maintenance

@codingirl79 hi newbie you are brand new here, but i see you have lost 80 lbs - DOS. 11/6/18 - post sleeve, that's terrific sounds, like you are doing everything right!! being healthy and a cutie, what more could you ask for!!☺️ at 10 months out. you have to "weigh" LOL your options - how about meeting in the middle with you calories, see if you can maintain at 1300. Try it for awhile and see what happens. Continue to up/down your calories until you are maintaining - and feeling good Many variables like @summerset good luck welcome to the boards☺️ kathy congrats
  16. Great post! I had to laugh at you referencing how the sleeve was discovered by sheer accident- so true! @BlueAngelEyes After finding this page, I did not realize the variation in each doctor's before/after surgery orders are. My husband had the sleeve a few years ago and he was on liquids for six weeks, then allowed to pureed/soft foods for a month and then transition into full eating. I went through a different practice and I was only on full liquids for about 7 days, then 10 days of soft/pureed and next eating whatever agrees with my system. I do not think there is one right way, but the doctors are following the guidelines that they believe work. I for one was hungry literally by the end of my first week. I was over the liquid shakes and think I demolished a box of sugar-free Popsicles in a couple of days. I looked forward to eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese but honestly was tired of that after a couple of days. I would advise that you contact your doctor or dietitian before moving along because you want to ensure that your body can actually tolerate the foods that you want to consume. So far the only meat protein that I have been able to tolerate without feeling sick are eggs, pork chops and flounder (after trying chicken, salmon, small portions of beef and lamb). This is definitely not a fun process, but you want to make sure you are prepared mentally as well as physically before moving on. I wish you the best!

Share your airplane extra seatbelt room!

One of my favorite things as far as the NSV! I was so happy in March when I didn't have to ask for a seat belt extension! I'm flying in about 10 days so can't wait to re-experience that and have even more room in the regular belt than I did before.

    June 2019 challenge

    19. Forgive someone? Hmmm, I forgave someone for not keeping their appointment today without notifying me. Had a good night's sleep last night and a nice workout at the gym. I go to Planet Fitness...don't love the colors or the noise, but I love that the membership is so reasonable, that I can go pretty much anywhere I am, and it has such a variety of equipment and I can do my own thing. What I wish for is an olympic pool to swim in but until one comes to our town, this is my mainstay of my exercise routine.
  19. I have dealt with gout off and on since I was 17. My body has responded very well to Indomethacin once properly dosed. Colcrys doesnt provide any relief at all but I get all the side effects. Fortunately the past few years the gout attacks are much less frequent. Unfortunately I still experience fairly frequent other inflammatory conditions. The past 10 days I had had pretty bad joint pain in my index finger at the knuckle. Since I had the sleeve and NSAID's are no longer an option what am I supposed to do? Tylenol does not provide much relief as an anti inflammatory.

    Single DUE to surgery

An interesting read from The Guardian (UK) -Bariatric divorce: why extreme weight loss leads to break ups https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/jun/17/bariatric-divorce-why-extreme-weight-loss-leads-to-break-ups

    Stalls

Hello! I'm 2 months out and I'm experiencing the same thing! I was bypassed 04/04/2019 and since then i've lost lots of weight but the pounds seem to drop all at once for a week or even less and then stall for two or three weeks, then drop a bunch in a week and then stall again for 2-3 weeks. I feel like all the weight i've dropped was in like 2 weeks total and the rest of the 2 months was just stalls. I think it's normal though, as long as we're losing weight in the end. I feel you, though, it's very frustrating. I'm 21 so yeah it may be our age too. Good luck!

    Approved!

The insurance requires 90 days of supervision, meetings with a dietician, all of which were silly as I had the band for 10 years. It quit working about 4 years ago and I had it removed it last year. Then I had to wait for the journey for this new surgery.
