    Mushy Stage

] I did that for the first couple of weeks, literally ate with my baby, focusing on the protein of course as someone said earlier, good luck!

4 years since my gastric bypass

I am four weeks post op. of course I am in the losing phase. But I fully anticipate obesity being a battle the rest of my life. I am nervous about the maintenance phase. I wish you success. All I can suggest is to go back to first principles: Protein first, lots of Water, no caffeine, limit carbohydrates, count calories and regular exercise. Wishing you the greatest success...
  4. I just went the the week 3 stall and I finally had a 1.5 drop this morning..mine was a week long but everyone is different.. hang in there and keep up the water!

    Getting my surgery tomorrow

Good luck with your surgery. Everybody loses a different amount due to the weight they started at and other factors. Percentages remain the same, though. I've lost about 30% of my excess weight in 4 months. I could go to the gym doing cardio within 2 weeks of surgery but not lift weights, then I could start weight lifting at 6 weeks.
  6. I! Overall I have been very happy with my sleeve. The past few weeks though, I seem to feel worse and worse. When I get home from work, I just get in bed And get under covers. And on weekends, all I feel like doing is laying in bed and sleeping. No energy, fatigue, cold all the time when others aren't, having to keep thick blanket with my at work. My husband says my skin is very pale, and by mid morning, I have dark circles under my eyes. I went to pcp and had lab work, but waiting on results. I'm still not able to eat a lot, especially, any kind of meat with consistency...unless it is really soft. Has anyone else dealt with this, or have any words of wisdom for me?

    banded 2/16...can't eat

I was banded a week ago today and I have to say I must beg to differ on the not being hungry while your stomach is swelled--My surgery was on a Wed. and by Fri. I was hungry! I had chicken broth. My doctor is more into the Optisource and water and any liquids that have zero calories after surgery so I've had to follow the nutrionist menu to include broth/drained soups/sugar free popcicles/water/skim or 1% milk--I did the sugar free jello and while it didn't make me sick it didn't really agree with me either but I don't know if I ate too much or it just didn't agree with me. You need to get your protein in so sip on your protein drinks. I did find that Special K has protein water but it does have 50 calories and they also have packages you can add to your own water that is only 30 calories. I've been doing that to help me get my protein in my system. I (knock on wood) have been very blessed that other then the jello anything I have tried has been easy on me but also keep in mind I haven't gone overboard either I've stuck with the soups, protein drinks, etc. Good luck on your journey and I hope you feel better soon!!

    Bye bye band

I had my band removed and revised to the sleeve but had to wait 6 weeks before the doctor would sleeve me. I was afraid I would gain weight although I had already done that with the band. I didn't gain any weight in fact it felt like I still had the band. I trust my surgeon. So if he said I need to wait then I needed to wait even if I didn't like it. I knew a lot of people that were had their band removed and sleeved same day. My surgeon told me my stomach needed time to heal.
  10. I'm so glad that I found this topic! My surgery was June 5 and this week I've stayed at the same weight. My Dr. told me at a recent check up not to be obsessed with the scale that this is normal and to date my loss is 23 lbs, but I was still thinking that I was doing something wrong or that this was a cruel joke like all past diets. Thanks for everyone's support!

    Dumping sleevers

I've never experienced dumping with the sleeve personally and I've eaten things I probably shouldn't have at this point, however I'm over 9 months out and 13 pounds from goal, so I might not be much help. I'm wondering if the issue is that your to early out of surgery for your stomach to handle some things. I know your plan might call for it but you might not be able to "stomach" it. I've noticed that eggs I have to stay away from now because my body just can't handle it anymore. I don't have a heart issue but more of a digestion issue. Also it seems to be items with sugar/carbs or sugar supplements that are giving you an issue so you might just have to avoid simple carbs and sugars for awhile and try to slowly add them back in when you are closer to goal. Your stomach is still healing at 8 weeks post op so it might just be to early to process them right.
  12. Well I'll be 8 months out from surgery on Monday. Did another before/after pic. Weight loss is definitely slowing down but I'm quite close to my goal and perfectly content where I am. I wouldn't mind dropping a few more pounds and I'm still losing, just slowly (7 pounds in the last 7 weeks). Overall though I feel a million times better.... I've gone from a 3XT/4X shirt to a regular Large shirt and waist was as big as a 50 at one point but generally a 46/48 and now down to a 34. Absolutely ZERO regrets!
  13. and she is winning! I had my last fill 6 weeks ago and have been doing fine. A little tight ever so often, but this weekend it has been war! 2 days ago I was a tight. Today I have been so tight I cannot even eat. Drinking is even hard. Hopefully tomorrow brings peace in my banded world. If not I will call the doc to get advice.

    Port and tubing replaced

I had my port replaced and it is taking forever to get back. The fill lasts about 2 weeks. The Dr said I have to allow a "shoulder" to form again and can only have bout 1/10th cc fill at a time so as not to cause erosion!! Yikes has anyone else gone thru this!
  15. All I know is that after the post-op diet, which was five weeks, I could eat anything I wanted with no consequences. I had very little pain after three weeks post-op, so I'm guessing most of the swelling was gone by then. Hope that answers your question.

    Fill?

My band was put in and left empty so my stomach could heal from the surgery. This is really a sensitive time for your stomach, so it is really important to follow the rules after your surgery, or you can end up in pain, and even sabotage the whole thing. After about 6 weeks, I got my first fill. Make sure your doctor uses a fouro scope (like an xray machine) when you get your fill. That way they can see how much tighter your band is getting. They will have you drink liquid to make sure it goes through the band. You will feel restricted after the first fill, but don't push your luck trying to eat, eat , eat. The first fill may not be as tight as your second fillwill be, weeks later, but you need to increase your consumption gradually to figure out your limits, and you will lose weight if you follow the rules. You shouold always be able to swallow liquids, no matter what!

Feeling like a new Bandster again...

Hmmm. I had a fill on Feb 28th (my second fill.) and I was unable to eat solids for 3 weeks. I have trouble eating solids before 2:00 p.m. Sometimes, even later in the day. Finally, one day I was thrilled to eat not gag on my food, and it was like it was a miracle to have a little spaghetti and a small piece of cheese. I have since had several teensy meals of various things, but cannot eat more than a few ounces of food at a go. I suppose I am not suppose to anyhow, because from what I have read, that is all a bandster is supposed to eat at a sitting. ANyhow, I was thinking of getting a bit removed from my band, so I could eat more than one meal a day. I have trouble eating before 2:00 p.m. on most days. I think my metabolism may slow up considerably if I don't get some fuel in earlier than 2:00. I have only lost about 9 pounds since Feb 28th, and considering I had very little going in for the last month, I don't think that is right.
  18. After being in a stall for 2-3 weeks I'm finally losing again. What s relief.......

    Post-Fill Protocol

You should contact your doctor because they are all different. My doctors orders 1 week of liquid, 1 week of mushies, and 1 week of soft stuff after a fill. Yes I know, it sounds strict. But I do as he instructs because I am guessing he knows what he is talking about.

    What to do

I'm with everyone else! You totally need to do it before. That way you've done the hardest of the healing portion. Cause when the baby comes its going to be a while before you and your wife will feel like you can take a couple weeks for you to be out of service. If you know what I mean.... I definitely say do it start your whole family off on the right foot A second thought is also, you being on a restricted diet as well might help influence her to stick to her healthy eating habits. Pregnancy, nursing and baby hormones I think can derail you if your not careful. It might be helpful to her.
  21. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/blog/1973/entry-4677-all-about-my-surgery-and-two-weeks-post-op/ linked it to my vst blog. let me know if you have questions!
  22. Everyday it gets a little better.. As much as you don't want to do it sometimes walk, walk about 10 to 15 minutes out of every waking hour it really does get that gas moving and out quicker! Discomfort can last about a week make sure your not twisting and bending to much. And it's easier to "roll" when you are getting out of bed. Good luck to you

    Clothes For Hospital Stay

I wore my own nightgown as soon as they let change. Theirs just seemed too hot and heavy. I brought a bra that I planned to wear but I was so swollen in the rib cage area that it hurt to breathe when I wore it. I would recommend getting one a size larger if you can. I would have been more comfortable doing my laps if I had been able to wear a bra. I was finally able to wear it on the flight home 3 days later but it was about a week before it felt comfortable again.

    This scares me

I am two weeks post op and I do not feel the band, I don't feel my port, and my only tenderness are the small incisions which are almost healed. I agree totally with Rugman - I was terrified that I would die from obesity. My quality of life was in the ditch. I could hardly walk anywhere without hip and lower back pain. I was short of breath and couldn't tie my shoes. Everything from shaving my legs to putting on lotion was a major chore. Lap Band was not a choice for me - it was a must!! And, I am so glad the technology is available. Good lUck!
