  1. I'm posting this here for traffic in the hope that some of you can advise and/or reassure me. I had my VSG on the 4th April (around 6 weeks ago) I am very worried that I am eating too easily so early out. Especially as I keep reading posts about people who can barely eat a postage-stamp sized piece of ham. An example day this week was: Breakfast - 1 x protein yoghurt pot (100 calories) Snack - 2 hard-boiled eggs (120 calories) Lunch - 100g / 4oz of pork sausages and vegetables (250 calories) Snack - 50g / 1oz of chicken pieces (150 calories) Dinner - 130g / 4.5oz of salmon fillet and creamed spinach (200 calories) TOTAL 820 calories I didn't feel any real restriction; I could easily have carried on, but I made myself stop. I'm pleased with the protein, but is 820 calories too much at this stage? Could I stretch my sleeve with this? Or could my sleeve be too "baggy"? For reference, in just under 6 weeks, I've lost 26lb. I wondered if my height could affect my stomach capacity? I am a 6ft female with an Amazonian frame, so maybe my tummy is bigger or longer than average to begin with? Thank you for any replies!!!

    4 Days Post Op

I had surgery on May 2nd. Anytime I drank or moved, my stomach was roiling with acid and gas. I called it my witch's cauldron. I was concerned as I saw so many that didn't seem to have this issue after surgery. Once I got to week 2 with full liquids (yogurt, protein shakes, etc.) and I could consume more items of substance, this improved greatly and is now not an issue. Hopefully yours will improve too.

    Compression socks

I wasn’t hooked up to any compression devices at the hospital nor was I prescribed to wear any compression attire after surgery (socks, abdominal, whatever). But I was prescribed to take blood thinners for a week post WLS. Compare this to when I had plastics about a year later, and I was hooked up to a leg squishing device for 2 days (which i LOVED, btw) and NOT prescribed any blood thinners. Its worth noting (maybe?) that I weighed 235 at WLS and 110-ish at plastics time. So I suspect that had something to do with it, but I’m not sure (I didn’t ask). The main goal is to prevent blood clots, I believe, so I suppose however your particular surgeon wants to address it is what you are gonna get.

    Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass

Greetings @Im4miracles - Michelle, I got my sleeve surgery in 2016. I lost around 130 lbs During the time from 2020, I had gained some of the weight back. I also had severe GERD (where the GERD was so severe that I was vomiting my food almost everyday). I went back to my Bariatric surgeon in February, 2020 to revise my sleeve surgery to a Gastric Bypass with hernia surgery I have to admit that I had similar concerns about the Gastric Bypass that you do. I was concerned about the dumping syndrome and wondering if I could keep the weight off with revision to the bypass surgery. I got my Gastric Bypass surgery with hernia surgery in March 2020. It was the best decision I ever made for myself because in hindsight I don’t have this severe GERD anymore. Once I was released from the hospital, I didn’t have much pain and didn’t have to take my narcotic pain killer. At my 6 month post op appointment, my bariatric surgeon was extremely pleased with my weight loss progress because I had lost 124% of my original body weight. My current body weight is in the mid 130’s. I was really scared that I would experience dumping syndrome after my bypass surgery - which I did not. In my experience, I haven’t had malabsorption of my daily nutrition in my body. My bariatric vitamins don’t taste horrible (I take my bariatric vitamins daily). Fortunately, my tastebuds haven’t changed because of the bypass surgery. I can eat all foods that I had eaten before I got my bypass surgery. I no longer have to take the Protonix 40 mg because the bypass surgery cured the GERD for me. Lastly, the weight that I had lost from my bypass surgery hasn’t returned because I use my Lose It application (food journal) to budget my calories, I walk everyday for 30 minutes at a minimum, and I use the nutritional plate method (that my medical nutritionist told me about). The plate method is where you divide your plate in to three sections: first section is 50% of the plate is made out of fruits and vegetables (I typically have 25% of fruits and 25% of vegetables in this section), second section is 25% of protein food, and the third section is 25% of carbohydrates foods. Using the nutritional plate method I make sure I’m getting the proper nutrition. Michelle, I hope that what I’ve written has given you food for thought. I have successfully gone from a sleeve surgery to a bypass surgery without any complications and i am extremely happy about my weight loss journey, thus far

    Compression socks

I only had compression devices at the hospital. But i did buy a calf massager a week ago and the thing is awesome
  9. I had VSG a few weeks ago and lost weight since then. It has been the best decision ever - the gift that keeps giving. I am so grateful Lately my husband has been giving me more physical attention wanting to be intemate. Before the surgery he would barely be intimate with me and it has been the case for a long time. We have been married for 12 years and I have put on weight over the years. I gained weight during covid and the intimacy has sort of died out over the last 3. With us not being intimate for almost a year. I noticed him take an interest in me the last week or so. I feel awful. I am still the same person only slightly lighter. Help I don't know what to do.

    Help!

Thank you [emoji4], you've made my day! Just knowing it will improve makes it easier. At what point did u notice the improvement in smell? I'm 7 weeks post op. Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Thank you![emoji4] It's great to know I'm not alone in this. I do exactly the same as you, I roll my pants down or wear very loose joggers. I wasn't expecting to still feel this way after 7 weeks though. X Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I'm sure we'll get there in the end. I'm only managing the toilet once a week and that's with taking laxatives!!!![emoji85] Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Hello! Just a short story of how I got here! 8/2012, I underwent the Gastric Sleeve. I went from 230 lbs to 140 lbs. I had a hiatal hernia repair during this surgery in 2012 and again in 2021. Every since I had the sleeve in 2012, I have had reflux. Within the last few years, it has increased, severely. It did a little better when I had the hernia repair in 2021. However the hernia has returned and the GERD is even worse. I wake up quite often gagging on stomach acid. Sometimes waiting to go to bed three hours after my last meal/snack, will help SOMETIMES. A lot of times, I have to sleep sitting up. I am taking Protonix 40 MG twice a day for many many years. If I skip a dose, I regret it! I, unfortunately, have gained quite a bit of my weight back. Once I started gaining, the front desk clerk at my Bariatric doc's office told me I didn't need to come back. I kind of felt like I got kicked out of the program!! So it just got worse after that. Because of the severe GERD I am having, I bit the bullet and went back to see my bariatric doctor. I was ashamed because I lost 90 pounds after my surgery but have gained 60 of it back. He didn't seem to say much about that. However, he suggested that the best way to get the GERD under control was to revise my surgery from the Sleeve to the Bypass. I have concerns! I am worried about the diet and will I screw up again? I am worried about mal absorption, dumping syndrome and all the other complications that can come from the Gastric Bypass. I worry about how the vitamins will taste (silly I know, but if things taste nasty, I have a hard time eating/drinking). What if I can't stick with it like I did the Sleeve? This is a permanent surgery! I am scared but I feel like it is necessary to relieve me of this terrible GERD. I could end up with Barrett's Esophagus and worse, cancer of the esophagus. Would really appreciate outlooks and suggestions! Thanks in Advance, Michelle
  14. You may still have swelling & strained muscles. They pump you full of fluids & gas & prod & poke you internally during the surgery. And of course the inflammation swelling from the actual surgery on your tummy like any wound. I had a sort of general tenderness & found anything tight on my waist uncomfortable for a couple of weeks. I used to roll down the waist of my pants so they sat on my hips & often gently rested my hand on my tummy under my pants. It was sort of comforting like I was protecting it. It will pass. Just give yourself time to heal & recover.

    Emergency Preparedness

Tins of beans, tomatoes, chick peas, lentils, vegetables & fish, dried barley, etc. Keep powdered stock on hand too. You’ll get protein from the beans, chick peas, barley & lentils. I always have frozen vegetables on hand too just in case & keep rotating out & using frozen mince, chicken thighs, diced beef, etc. & freezing fresh packs. I can shop from my pantry & freezer for a couple of weeks.

  18. I’ve been doing really well… until last night. My right side is suddenly so painful, but only when standing and walking. It’s so bad that I don’t know if I can even manage to shower tonight. I have this persistent heaviness and tugging sensation, and while I understand why, it’s quite painful. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Ooh you mean within 4 weeks. Ooh okay. I thought you meant overall. I was like ummmm I think that’s a bit conservative.

No, as a general guideline I suppose. She said most lose more than that but as a general guideline that amount seems to be the average lost in 4 weeks post op (Im guessing for lower BMI ppl probably but who knows). Of course each person is different.

    Marijuana Use and Nausea

Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome is a thing. Likely has nothing to do with your surgery, just your use. It often starts with nausea and grows into recurrent vomiting. Mode of delivery doesn't matter, the only thing that resolves it is cutting it out. If you go a week without and the nausea resolves, you'll have your answer.

Well apparently talking about it set things off because i got a notification of a decent amount of work next week... LMAO hahaha.

    Marijuana Use and Nausea

It might be the vaping that's causing the nausea. If you're unwilling to give up cannabis for more than a week, you could try edibles instead and see if that helps.
