Surgery was a week ago tomorrow. My last sore incision felt significantly better today, it had really been pinching until then (it's deeply puckered, I call it my button tuft incision). I'm able to eat between 3 & 5 tbls of food a day, depending on thickness. 2 - 3 tbls of broth, or a tbl of yogurt, pudding, or cottage cheese. About 2 tbls of a thick, strained soup. I'm not really ever feeling hungry yet, but I do feel a bit gurgly once or twice a day. The pain with drinking has almost subsided. Today I was able to take 3 very small sips with only a few seconds in between. This is the first day I've been able to drink more than one small sip at a time. I stop before there's pain, but there's still pressure. I'm still having a hard time getting more than about 25 oz of any fluid in per day - hopefully it will start getting easier soon. My first post-op is Wed. I'll know scale change then. I'm not expecting much since I'm still taking predisone (allergic reaction to meds from surgery). The meds I have to take are definitely still an obstacle to eating/drinking more. I have to take sucralfate (4x daily) to keep the predisone (2x daily) from irritating my stomach too much, plus the omeprazole (2x daily). Just my meds keep me stuffed for several hours. How is everyone else doing?

Okay, first let me say, please don't lecture me because I am already SCARED TO DEATH and have learned my lesson. Here's what I did: I made a crustless pumpkin pie with just pumpkin pie mix/puree and nonfat evaporated milk. All of the sudden, my pre-surgery monster came out. I ate at least a 1.5 cups of the pumpkin mix (15 oz?) all at one time. I feel HORRIBLE right now - not just mentally, but physically. Unfortunately, I don't feel like throwing up. I just feel really full and I am sweaty. Does anyone have experience with this. Am I at risk for a leak right now? Did I screw something up permanently? I am SO scared. Do I need to make an emergency call - I HATE the thought of doing that.... (I should have said.... I am 3.5 weeks out and so far haven't had any trouble with eating and drinking - more of an OPPOSITE problem - like I can eat a 5.5 oz yogurt with no problem whatsoever and still be hungry an hour or so later. Again, I am so afraid right now. And just all together miserable and scared.

I am doing the same thing. I find myself getting grumpy because I can't eat for 12 hours so I'm hoping the 12 hours from dinner to breakfast will be enough of a break. Today I had a protein shake for breakfast.... For lunch a Chobani Greek Yogurt.... dinner a protein shake -

lizzy2150 replied to LisaB68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, all! I started my pre-op diet today (daily: 2 Protein shakes, 1 bowl of Soup, 1 yogurt, 1/2 cup cottage cheese and unlimited sugar-free jello) and I am STARVING. And cranky, too! I'm glad that my dr. doesn't require me to give up caffeine, though--I don't think I could take that on top of how I'm feeling right now. Those of you who have already started the pre-op diet: this does get better, right? -
My Suggestion-Stop The Obsessing. Rules Are Meant To Be Broken

I enjoyed reading your post. I think I tend to believe the same. I'm 3 weeks post op Tomorrow. I've been having major cravings and after my lunch- I went to get some frozen yogurt. No regrets- didn't sit the best in my yummy but not terrible. I,too, do not believing in depriving myself but also believe eat Protein first and then see how you're feeling. I did that an still wanted it so I got it. Thank you again and congrats on your loss! -

Okay, here goes my experiment! Today I will eat one egg, one protein shake made with water, one container of greek yogurt with walnuts, and one protein shot, for a total of 600 cals, 78g protein, 21g carbs. After work I will go for a 2 mile run or 20 minutes of intervals, and lift weights. If it works like I hope it will, I should be down 3 pounds by the weekend. Let's see what happens! -
Hi everyone! My name is Jamie and I am new here. I read this forum a lot prior to surgery but never registered. Thank you all for being so helpful with such a huge decision! I am 36 and married with no children. I have a high level position with a national catering company and have been event planning for over ten years. I had my surgery on May 11th. I know this is a crazy question - but how do I know I am full? I don't feel hungry so I am not entirely sure when I feel full either. I called my nurse a few days ago because I could drink fluids (and soup) easily and I was afraid I would stretch out my stomach. She said not to worry about it. When I did my one week post-op appointment they added watery grits and oatmeal and greek yogurt. I have had 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup but I am worried that I cant tell when I am full until I am too full. Does anyone else experience this?

So sorry I've been out for a bit. My husband and I do travel-related stuff, and we took a group of students from my university on a post-graduation cruise. It was a blast--the kids were fantastic, very nice, very mature, and the trip was wonderful start to finish. BEST NEWS: Despite drinking more than I usually do (I probably had 2 fruity rum drinks a day plus a glass of wine with dinner) and eating dessert every evening (chocolate melting cake--yes, with ice cream), I got back on the scale this morning and celebrated that I am exactly the same weight as before we left. Yep. No gain. No loss, either, which I didn't really expect--I think everything balanced out, since we did a LOT of walking and running around, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, and I actually did use the ship's gym and walking track a couple of times. I had no trouble finding food that was appropriate for me and my still-picky sleeve. I discovered that I still could not tolerate prime rib or pork roast (had bites off my husband's plate to check), but sleevie LOVED most of the seafood options. Also really, really loved the wok-cooked vegetables available at every lunch--you select your own veggies and they add meat (I just did veggies) and sauce and cook quickly in a wok--fresh and delicious and very good for me! I ate fruit and hard-boiled egg whites for Breakfast, frozen yogurt or soft-serve ice cream as a snack, some peanuts, veggies for lunch with a couple of thin slices of cheese, and the dining room dinner (appetizer, usually Soup for me; entree, usually seafood or vegetarian; and dessert, always chocolate melting cake for me!). It was easy, delicious, and I felt GREAT during the trip--not stuffed or uncomfortable. I will say that the plate/bowl size was incredibly large, even by American standards--they held a ridiculous amount of food. And the serving utensils were designed to give out big glops of food--even things like sour cream were self-serve with these HUGE serving spoons. salad dressings were provided in squeeze bottles that had really wide-spout tops--designed for fast service, but the end result is that people poured on HUGE amounts of these things really easily. And I noticed that in fact, you could correlate the food choices to the body type of people eating them--thin people of every age ate fruit, veggies, and a modest amount of heavier Protein food; heavier people ate really big portions, fattier foods, and several different Desserts at a single meal (it's an all-you-can-eat buffet at every meal on board). It was really kind of eye-opening, having so recently been in the "other camp," as it were. My sleeve has made it possible for me to see/smell/be around food and NOT WANT IT. This would never have been the case before. I would definitely have overindulged, and if I didn't, I would have felt like I was missing out on something. We went to a "midnight Mexican buffet," and I had--NOTHING. Nothing looked good enough to eat just because it was there. It was kind of strange--I noticed into the second or third day that I wasn't even thinking about food--I was just enjoying the activities and the company. :-) Normal relationship with food, maybe?? is it possible? -

You have some discomfort and pain mainly where the main area of the stomach is operated on...you will feel bloated and gassy. You look forward to farting lol....just to get it all out. Takes pressure off your stomach and helps not being so bloated. I haven't had any problems with drinking or eating...I'm on yogurt, cream Soups, hot Cereal, etc. You will do just fine. I thought the two week liquid diet was worse than surgery! -
I seem to be more hungry in the evening as well. I can also eat about 1/2 cup of food. I can do six ounces of yogurt but it takes me awhile.

What's CRS? I love Greek yogurt! It's much thicker and therefore more filling, and it's so low calorie! Did you have the plain kind, or the kind with fruit? I like the plain kind with a teaspoon of low sugar Strawberry jam mixed into it. Also, a way to make extra thick and yummy protein shakes is to mix milk with protein powder and about 4oz of plain greek yogurt, blend it in a blender with some ice. -

I don't think I have ever seen any of that yogurt at my local store. Which is odd because we have a large Greek population here... Enjoy your B&J binge chickie!!! -
It's easy to make soups. Use unflavored or chicken flavored protein powder, combine with water or broth, and add soft cooked vegetables or lean meats. You can add even more protein with fat free greek yogurt. Spices to taste. The 14 day pre-op diet is to shrink your liver so it isn't in the surgeon's way. So the no fat, no sugar, and no alcohol part is very important.

I really hate Greek yogurt, can I use a couple teaspoons of white sugar to help it taste better???

Sleeve: The UNTOLD Story

I was doing yogurt for 3 days before surgery, I hardly ate anything. Didn't eat anything at all the night before my surgery. -
Starting my liquid diet today. I'm SO jealous of those of you who can eat veggies and regular food on your pre-op diet. I'm on yogurt, broth, water, popsicles, protein shakes......yayyyyyy. Lol!
-
How many calories/carbs/proteins are you eating? I have been sticking to 800 calories, under 100 carbs & 100 g protein. It's been a total liquid diet for the past week and I have lost 12lbs. I can have protein shakes and 1-2 cups of creamed soups strained or a low fat Greek yogurt.

Thanks for the PM. I did weigh yesterday and was Thrilled to see 199.6 on my scale! Yippeee! I haven't changed my ticker yet, because I usually do that on Mondays. I'm not sure what everyone is measuring consistantly. I did not go to the gym yesterday or today. I did walk in the neighborhood for 30 minutes yesterday, but none today. Today I have had: Breakfast: Lite n fit yogurt with unflavored Unjury protein Lunch: 4 oz lentil soup Snack: 2 oz cottage cheese Dinner: 4 oz grilled tilapia fish, 1 oz grilled yellow squash snack: 2 oz cottage cheese I'm still afraid to cheat off my soft food diet. Only 10 more days of soft foods and then on to real solids! I get really hungry at night between 7-10 and was told I shouldn't be eating at night. I hope a little cottage cheese would be okay. I drank all my water (64 oz) and 2 glasses of crystal lite peach tea. I'm so very encouraged by all of your successes! Thanks for being this newbie's inspiration. Sorry I went AWOL, I'll try to do better. Terry

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
Bariover54 replied to NickelChip's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Ron! I had my BP on the 6th. I’m doing pretty good as well. I don’t start vitamins until Tuesday a full two weeks after surgery. I guess they want to make sure I’m eating something to protect me from getting nausea. I saw my nutritionist yesterday and he said I can ease into soft foods with yogurt and cottage cheese. Luckily I love both! I was able to have about 1/2 a cup without feeling uncomfortable. I just stopped eating and I wasn’t hungry or wanting more. A few hours later same thing with a Greek yogurt. I’m so ready for eggs, tuna, cheese etc. I also was told to wear my binder for 4 weeks. It definitely makes me feel more secure. My glue is still on my incisions. I guess they put a super deluxe hospital grade glue on me. I’m not scrubbing it off or peeling it off until it comes off naturally. I’m too scared to open something up. So, good luck my friend. And everyone else hang in there with your liquid diets. It’s definitely worth it. It will make your surgery go smoother and recovery easier. 💖💖💖 -
May 2023 surgeries
SleeveMeAlone23 replied to WVJess2Less's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just checking in a week post-op VSG. I’m doing really well, meeting protein and water goals. I can take about 3 swallows of water at a time, which works out to about 3 oz. Then I gotta allow 10 min or so before I put anything else down the chute. At first I couldn’t even get 3 oz of my protein shakes down at a time, but now I’m getting half shakes down 4 times a day. I also had some Greek yogurt tonight. I absolutely hated Greek yogurt before surgery, but was so good and felt good in my stomach too. I also now like unsweetened tea and I used to be 100% sweet tea girl. It’s absolutely crazy how your body changes. Good luck to everyone with surgeries coming up this week. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. The pain doesn’t last forever, and things will get better quickly. Soon, we’ll all be looking back and celebrating our success and seeing these moments of struggle as just stumbling blocks on our journey! Oh, and 22 pounds down from start of pre-op as of this morning!! 🎉🎉 Much love to all! 💕 -
I can put away a whole egg too. Depending on what it is I can eat about 2-4oz. I'm about 5 weeks as well.. As far as breakfast. What about turkey sausage, oatmeal with protein powder, or yogurt. I'm still mostly drinking my breakfast.
