Shrinkin' Violets Part 3 Read HERE!

Good Morning, Violets.. Freezin rain here. Same situation as Christmas Eve. Bob goes in early and I'm supposed to wait for Kris and Nathan, but I'm going to go in with him today. I don't want to miss his last Sunday there and I don't think the kids will be able pick me up. We're supposed to have freezing rain snow and sleet all day today. I reset my ticker to show the weight I started at on Jan. 2 So I've lost 3 pounds which I'm happy with. We add soft protein today so that means eggs, eggs and more eggs, plus yogurt. I know I can do it if I can make it past the reception after church today. Everyone have a great day. We're all doing great and need to be proud of ourselves!!!
  3. Hey everyone. I'm home a resting for a while. I'm having an early dinner with one of the girls from our boot class, so I had an early lunch of 1/4 of an orange, yogurt and a handfull of peanuts. I went to the hospital this morning and my sister was just sitting on the side of the bed. Looked like she had been crying and that she had a bad night. Come to find out she didn't have any breakfast, not even any coffee. So I got her untangled from her IV and got her in the bathroom. She took a sponge bath and I got her hair washed for her. I changed the sheets on her bed and got her all set up. I called down to the kitchen and ordered her some food. She was resting comfortably when I left. She is the one that has a "Genetic Blood Clotting Disorder". So when my little Sis had me look at her leg and the spot was warm and very painful I took her in to have it looked at. The Doc said we did the rght thing by bringing her in. With our older sisters history, we just can't take a chance. If it had been a clot she could be gone in an instance. She's going to make an appointment with the regular doc to see what is causing it. Thank You all so much for all your thoughts and prayers. I'm blessed to have such good friends. Got my feet propped up and waiting on the washer to finish so I can put the stuff into the dryer. I need to not let things pile up while I'm busy. Judy, I had already made my corned beef when I saw your recipe. I will try it next time I make one. Which will be soon. I always stock up on them while they are on sale. Everyone have a great day. Hugs.

Shrinkin' Violets Part 3 Read HERE!

Oh Kat.. I'm so sorry to hear about all the grief surrounding what should be an awesome experience. Abbey's husband sounds just awful and neither you nor Rick have any reason to be treated the way you have been. I certainly understand Rick's anger and your hives. Take care of and support each other. We're here for you to lean on. Our prayers to your family. I've been good on my eating again today. I had a slice of cheese and a couple of bites of yogurt for Breakfast and a piece of talapia for lunch. Kris brought Ethan some french fries and she had chinese take out. She's left for her doctor's appointment and Ethan's mom just came and got him. She got out a couple of hours early today and I'm happy I have some quiet time before choir. I just took some peanutbuttered pinecones rolled in bird seed out and hung them from the tree branches. We had a ton of birds this morning.. a good sign of a storm. It's still snowing out and the Bobster has already done one pass on the driveway with the snowblower. I better take advantage of my quiet time and get some house cleaning done. Ethan tends to leave it like a tornado hit it. BBL...
  5. Wooohooo Michelle, a star among us!!! I will record it as well and watch it. Sorry I cannot help you with the computer junk! Suzanne good luck tomorrow, I would say it sounds like a real pain in the A$$----but that might be hitting a little close to home!!! Hope it is pain free and heals quickly. If my fill does not loosen some, the weight should drop off pretty quickly, I cannot eat much until dinner, then a small dinner and I do mean small! I have been having a protein shake for breakfast, and usually some yogurt, or cottage cheese for lunch. I have been trying to have some peanut butter, or something with some protein for lunch as well. That is it! I talked to the receptionist today about the safety of walking in the area. She said lots of people from the hospital walk a large loop, around say 3 blocks by 3 blocks. I might see about doing that over my lunch. She is a nice girl, she is just that, about Laura's age, and a few months less pregnant, but pregnant as well! The lab is small, but well stocked, and I have a desk area in there, and also one out front, where I can help the receptionist, check patients out, depending on what was done. If there was anything involving the lab or surgery, I check them out to schedule their followup, if it was a routine exam, or what have you she does it. Once I get the hang of things it should work out just fine. I spent a long time this morning calling results to patients, and pre approving procedures through insurance. Told Rick it will probably trip me up within a short while I will answer the house phone "Rivers in the Desert Eye Clinic" Which a waaaaaay too long of a name for a business to try to spit out when you are leaving a message or something! Especially if you try to add a good morning or identify yourself!!!! LOL, I am sure it will become more habit and less of mouthful feeling!! I got a new laptop today---they will be hooking it up this evening, it will be at my desk in the lab. It is very laid back, I can have pictures, something to drink, or snack on (which I am pretending I can't!!!), whatever I want. Also learning some of the machines, so I can do follow ups on his lasik patients etc. Not brain surgery....but it seems fun. Rick did pretty good, he didn't have dinner ready!!! We were going to go out, then I just decided, we would reheat leftovers!!! So he helped with that, and he helped load the dishwasher while I put things away, and after my shower I come in to unload the DW and he come right in and helped unload it. I know he is trying extra hard, but he will be leaving before we can set any routine!!! He heads out to TX this coming Sat. It makes me sadder than I know how to tell you!!! I will admit I was not looking forward to all of it!!! I resent not having alone time to travel with him to and from anymore, always carting his parents, but I understand it, and can appreciate we will not always have them, so I try to look at it as a good thing. I will not miss the house!!! And the fear of snakes in the house!! But the time out in the fields, and ME choosing which calves I want to keep!!! I am exhausted at the end of each day, but I love being out there with him, whether it is building fences, or shredding fields, or just walking or 4 wheeling across acre after acre!!! I mean last time if I hadn't been there, he would have run head on into a HUGE skunk!!! He was down a hill when I topped it, and saw the skunk when I yelled he stopped to see if I was ok----and it skittered off towards the trees!!! He was on a direct line with it. Without me, he may come home stinky!!! I will miss seeing the Aunts and Uncles and cousins. And I will hate being alone. And I will love being alone. The guy out back began moving things today, taking some things out of the trailer to his Daughters, then he slid the one slide out back in, and has left for 2 days, then will move the trailer either Thurs. or Fri. So I will truly be alone. I am going to see if Manda will let Kinsey spend the night on Saturday, and we will have a girl night! Help me pass the time, and I cannot impress upon you how much I miss that little girl!!! I have not seen her since Wed. I did call and talk to her on the drive home. She wanted to know what color my work was, the walls the carpet, everything!!! She is excited to go to school, but wants me to take her so I can make her hair pretty!! I might actually end up doing just that. So that she gets the extra hour and a half of sleep each morning, we haven't figured it out. Well, I am off to finish watching CSI in bed with my honey. Will check in with you tomorrow!!! I miss my daily check ups on y'all!!! XOXOXOX

    Baby Food

My doc is OK with it in the mushy/pureed stage. Someof it is higher in protein and lower in sugar (depending on the type) than some of the other things in that stage. For instance, all of the Gerber 2nd Foods meat flavors have 7 to 8g of protein, 0g sugar, 2 to 3g carbs, and about 70 to 80 calories per jar. That ratio actually isn't too far off of some of the protein drinks I have seen, and better than some of the light yogurts and soups that some people eat. However, the fruit and cereal flavors have less protein and more sugar and carbs. Baby food may not be the #1 best choice, but you could definitely do worse in that stage. BUT, I don't know anything about taste.

    What's the Norm??

Sixty grams of Protein is the recommendation of my surgeon and in general, the USRDA. The USRDA recommends 40-50 for females and 55-70 for males. Things like weight, sex, activity levels and health conditions determine the exact number. So sixty is not so excessive as some would have you believe. I think hunger is really hard for many of us to determine. We have head hunger and we all know what that is. There is also that empty feeling that you get when you are dehydrated or lacking something, usually Water, a Protein Drink, juice or milk help me with that feeling. For me, I try to shoot for that tummy rumbling- hunger pain hunger to eat a meal. How long depends on my current restriction, what and how much I had for my last meal and my activity level since my last meal but 4-6 hours is normal for me. Generally yogurt is not going to keep you full as long as a solid protein and veggie meal will.

    How many carbs

I hated the first few weeks after surgery when everything was cream this and liquid that. Felt like I was just stuffing myself with carbs! I don't exactly count my carbs but I only eat low carb stuff most of the time to keep them on the low side. I found carbsmart yogurt from Kroger that has 8 G protein and 4g carbs. Tastes way better than Greek yogurt to me so that's my breakfast most days. The rest of the day the meals center on protein so the amount I get in other foods is negligible. I'm almost 7 weeks out.

    Any April Sleevers?

I'm a " blended w/ ice & skim milk" yogurt drinking regular now! Dannon Greek yogurt all the flavors -zero fat & 12 proteins I drink one for lunch - I add 2oz of skim milk to make it 14 proteins.. I add ice cubes to increase my water/liquid intake. It is a yummy discovery for me. My nutritionist told me pre vsg to try to find things you really like. It is challenging in this full liquid phase but the yogurt drink is a winner! You can add vanilla protein powder to it to increase your intake too! My biggest challenge is getting in all my liquids and not paying attention & taking a gulp to drink & then it hurts going down.. Or too big of a bite of soup. I have been blending ice cubes w/ Crystal light or water flavorings blending it up to almost like a slushie, I eat it w/ a spoon! All this to try to increase my liquids!!! Baby steps through each stage! It can be challenging out to eat! I tried to order tomato soup when out w/ my husband but it was full of chunks! He had pot roast, veggies, mashed potatoes & gravy! I wanted to have a bite only because it was there! I reminded myself that I too one day will be able to have a few bites & that will be all I want is just a few bites because that will be all my tiny tummy can handle & that thought made me smile! Also I think my boobs have shrunk just slightly & I know my face has so those two things remind me of how my vsg is working for me! Ok - I will stop rambling now. Take care & keep on keeping on with your journey! We are on our way...

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Yes, I add it to the squash purée and other things that don't already have protein in it. I add it after I heat it up. I have one scoop of unflavored protein that I sprinkle into foods all day long. Others like the potato/leek Soup, I added plain Greek yogurt for creaminess and protein. I put Benefiber in my shakes and take 2 colace pills a day, so I don't get constipated. Mine are loose, but I'd rather have it that way than strain from constipation. Molly 10/2
  13. My dr considers full liquids and mushies to be the same thing. Doesn't make sense to me because I was allowed pudding, baby food fruit and yogurt during my initial 2 week "liquid phase" but not allowed cream soups until phase II (full liquids aka mushies). Each dr is different. Did you get any kind of paperwork showing what is allowed on the different stages of your post op diet?
  14. Pudding and yogurt were part of my "full liquids" but cottage cheese and oatmeal were part of "mushies".
  15. I've low carbed a lot to control my PCOS, so I'm pretty comfortable following the regime. I don't tend to eat a lot of processed foods because I have 2 small children and I like for them to have homemade meals, so I used fitday.com to enter in my ingredients and used the nutritional information they supplied. My menu from yesterday is: Breakfast: 2 egg mushroom omelet: 196 calories, 6 carbs, 14 grams Protein Snack: 3 large strawberries and 3 slices of starfruit: 19 calories, 5 carbs Lunch: 4 shish kebabs (8 ounces of steak, 1/2 cup sliced summer squash, 1/2 cup zucchini, 1/2 of sliced mushrooms, a little bit of onion): 452 calories, 8 carbs, 65 grams protein Dinner: Homemade Thai inspired lettuce cups (6, using Boston lettuce, 1.25 cups ground beef cooked with diced straw mushrooms, baby corn, and peanut sauce (chicken stock, soy sauce, natural Peanut Butter with no added sugar, chili, ginger, and other spices): 653 calories, 4 carbs, 39 grams protein. Dessert: 1/2 cup Plain yogurt, sweetened with Splenda: 75 calories, 6 carbs, 4 grams protein Daily totals: 1395 calories, 29 carbs (6 of which are fiber), and 122 grams protein. Tuna salad is also really good in lettuce cups, especially if you sprinkle some seeds on it for crunch. I like to use pumpkin seeds.
  16. Hey Pete, My hubby went to basic and AIT at Ft Dix too, but a couple of years before you. He got there on New Years Eve 1987 so started off 1988 at Dix. He just had his anniversary....21 years. He lost quite a bit of weight while he was there too, but alas, it didn't stay off. He says he's going to lose some weight and work out lots while he's deployed this time...here's hoping. I also will be cooking for two so when he does get back, there won't be lots of food for seconds (or thirds) and that should help too. My routine has developed into: 5:30 - shake on the drive to work 7:30 - half an instant oatmeal or yogurt with splenda or cottage cheese 9:45 - lunch ~ Soup or tuna, chicken and veg...something soft 12:30 - the other half of oatmeal or sometimes the rest of lunch if I couldn't eat it all 3:00 - off work and then I drink another shake or have a Protein rich snack 6ish - dinner I know some say not to have more than 3 meals but I could not make it through the day without having the extra small meals/snacks. I go to bed between 8:30-9 so I don't want to eat much later than 6. It seems to be working...I'm not losing lots but it's still heading down slowly and until I get my first fill next week, I'm very happy that I'm not stuck or gaining any as some do during this time.

    September Bandster Check-in

Yes, that is what I mean.. My typical day would consist of Yogurt, cottage cheese, or oatmeal for breakfast. For lunch was soup, chili etc. (no crackers or bread) then for dinner I ate scrambled eggs with cheese etc. So what he said is that it is still ok to eat soft foods for breakfast since that is when I am the tightest, then after that no more soft foods. For lunch I now eat a can of chicken (at costco) with some light miracle whip and sweet pickles. A Smart One frozen meal with chicken and veggies, protein bars, sandwich meat with a cheese stick. For dinner I eat grilled chicken breast (4 oz.) with a veggie of some kind, salad or otherwise. It has made a huge difference. I am not hungry in-between meals either.

    cereal binge eaters

I love cereal!!! If I ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner I would be happy!! My favorite right now is Frosted Chex and the Cheerios with strawberry yogurt flavor. It goes down pretty well and to me it is very satisfying. :hungry:
  19. kkarryall

    Favorite Protein rich foods

Greek yogurt is also a great source of protein.
  20. unjury makes and unflavored and chicken broth flavor protein powder which is pretty good. If you don't want to buy the whole container, they sell samples. Also, I highly recommend Fage FF Greek yogurt. It has 20g protein p/cup and tastes great.

    February/March 2014 sleevers

    February/March 2014 sleevers

I ain't gonna lie, pre-op dieting is screwing with my mind. It's showing me what a horrible relationship I have with food. This empty feeling makes me think I'm hungry and I know it's in my head but it's hard. Today has been my roughest day and I'm on day 8. I think maybe I've had too many carbs n it's triggering me. I ate an Oikos vanilla Greek yogurt and thought it was sugar free but it wasn't. It had sugar. Big wake up call for me. What do you do now when you're bored instead of eat?

    Snacks/groceries

I really like string cheese for a snack. I also like nuts, especially almonds and peanuts. I'm pretty tight in the mornings, but sometimes have yogurt for breakfast, which works as a snack too.
  24. My sugeoua off said Clear liquids for 5 days post op then move to solid liquids (creamed Soup no chunks, hummus, very runny cream of wheat, milk, low fat cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, Protein shakes) do that for 14 days, then move to pureed food for 14 days. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App
  25. Hi All, Couldn't find another thread so will just ask... I'm exactly 1 week post op and since yesterday (day 6) I've started trying a few 'solid foods' in the UK we're told after a sleeve to have liquids for 3 weeks, then puree for 3 then move to more solid food. But I've always been a quick healer, and for some reason I just knew in my head I felt ok to try something, I've had a thin slice of cheese, a strawberry, a mousse dessert (yogurt) and a small piece of soft potato. All of these I chewed until they basically didn't exist in my mouth before swallowing, but I've experienced no nausea, sickness or cramping. I understand I couldn't eat a proper meal as I could over stretch whilst still healing, and I am literally nibbling tiny mouthfuls and chewing until I can't even notice the food in my mouth anymore but is this normal? It's becoming really hard to stomach just Soup and milk etc when I feel ready to eat more solid food. I completely understand the risk of rushing the process and I will allow myself time to heal fully but would like to know id this has happened to anyone else?
