Puréed food ideas please
Soon2BHealthyAggie replied to Cjanerun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I definitely didn't have bland food. I put sriracha on everything. Refried Beans, I topped with plain Greek yogurt that was mixed with chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder. There are a lot of foods that have flavor in the Puree stage. Think texture not flavor! I liked cream of wheat with banana baby food mixed in, it was actually really flavorful. Daily calories in protein shake phase
JamieLogical replied to jersey0601's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be allowed more than just protein shakes at 2 weeks post-op. I was allowed strained cream soups and yogurt as well at that point. You definitely want to get your calories higher as soon as you are able. Being that low for long is going to wreck you metabolism. -
Yes @@Cjanerun You can eat anything in a puree consistency. Strained cream soups or pureed soups (watch sugar content), hummus, greek yogurt (watch sugar), mashed cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, scrambled eggs, egg salad, refried beans, etc.

Plastics 5/2 in North Miami

I have a seroma that requires draining. You can cause more scarring. Pull a stitch. Get an infection. Wear your compression garment all the time unless showering. I recommend going to walgreens or Walmart and getting a big bottle of hibiclens. It's about $20. Wash your body for a few days before surgery and for weeks afterward. Keeps your risk of infection low. Supplement your intake with Protein powder. I added unflavored to my broth, Soups and yogurt. Increasing your protein facilitates healing. I also took arnica Montana for swelling. Take your pain meds. -
How are my fellow Pre opers? I am still doing well with the plan but I have not lost any weight after the 5lbs mark. I don't know if it is just a stall (after a week?) or my body freaking out over the sudden decrease in carbs, cals and all that jazz. I am averaging 700-1000 cals a day and doing the shakes and full liquids (yogurt, SF pudding and Jellos, and soups) I am getting excited to be less than a week out though!!!!

So much different medical advice on what we can eat post op.
sallo replied to Megan1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't believe that people are told no carbs until all weight is lost. My Nutritionist & surgeon allowed me to eat anything (within reason) and I've lost weight as successfully as someone with a restricted diet. I also stopped Protein shakes as soon as I could tolerate solid foods. Post op diets in America sound hard core! Anyhow, I agree with eating greek yogurt. I used to have some with fruit puree to jazz it up. -
I'm well past surgery (10 months) and have been adding Chia seeds and ground flax to my daily Greek yogurt for the past 6 months. Nutritionally, both are great for you and I've had zero problems.

Hello everyone! Ramadan has started few days ago and i was wondering if there were any sleevers that are going through fasting for the first time or have something to share with others who are fasting. i am one month and two weeks post op and my experience with ramadan is going great so far, for those of you who don't know what ramadan is, its the ninth month of the Muslim year where muslims strictly obtain from eating, drinking, smoking and sex from sun rise to sun set for a period of thirty days. in my region we fast for 4 am to 7 pm a total of 15 hours every day, during I've experienced little to no hunger! which is amazing! BUT it is easy to get extremely dehydrated because my Water intake is limited by feeling sick and bloated if i drink fast or large quantities at times, so i have to remind myself to drink sips of water every few minutes to keep myself hydrated. Heres a few tips that might help you from my experience, when it comes to breaking my fast I've noticed that if i ate immediately i will get nauseas and probably won't eat for hours after which is a bad idea because you have little time to get all your Vitamins and nutrians , so instead a glass of water or juice some dates and a break for 15 minutes will do then i go and have something to eat, by that i won't shock my stomach and go from extremely hungry to extremely full in a few seconds. it is very important in this month in particular to not skip your Multivitamins, it is extremely hard to plan your meals like other days and you'll find yourself gravitating towards fatty foods, sweets and lots of high sugary drinks that will make you feel weak and probably hungry in a few hours so the least you can do is have your vitamins and Protein. if you're craving fatty foods be sure to focus on the healthy ones that will make you feel full and not as guilty, salmon avocados Peanut Butter are some of your good options. DO NOT WORKOUT WHILE FASTING! its extremely dangerous to your body, your body is already weak during fasting and putting the extra pressure won't do you any good, the best time to work out is after hours of breaking your fast, you'll be reenergized by that time. Suhor (eating an hour before you fast) is usually the hardest thing to do but it is very important not to skip it, it is usually in the very late at night 3:30 am or 2 am Suhor is there to help you carry on for the next day. for me i keep a covered plate of a sandwich some vegetables yogurt and water next to my bed stand to make sure i never skip it. i know its sounds funny, but watching other people eat sometimes helps me forget that I'm hungry somehow SO Mukbang eating shows have been so helpful these few days. that is all i have, if you have any ideas or suggestion please feel free to share i could use a couple more to help me through Ramadan. Thank you for your time and happy Ramadan to all!

Just keep trying to eat pureed or soft foods. Try some refried Beans, yogurt, SF Jello, strained Soups, Protein shakes, gatorade...Just do an ounce or two every couple hours. Things will continue to improve. The first month it is a bit tough. Around week 5 you begin to really feel better.

I was done on the 19th. I'm on purée foods now. Everything has been fine so far. I can eat fine. Purée chicken really fills be up. I can only eat about 2 oz. other food like yogurt or cottage cheese I can eat a bit more. I'm down 19 lbs since surgery. I also lost 15 lbs on the pre-op diet that started May 9th. I'm down 34lbs in 30 days. It's great, but I'm sure it will slow down drastically once I start eating more Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

pureed foods can be anything you cook in a crockpot and then into a blender. Make is really yummy and savory. It may not look great, but the taste? YUMMY!!. And of course--greek yogurt--my favorite. Or a hearty home made bone Soup,or chili-- blended, add some nutritional yeast for more Protein and flavor and yum yum. See? now you've made me wanting to go downstairs and make soup! Pureed stage ? Step outside of the box , be creative and have fun. Prayers going up . -
No pre-op diet required. How should I prepare?
leebick replied to LA_lady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My program is a Center of Excellence, and surgeons from around the world come here to train with my surgeon to learn to do BWLS robotically. My surgeons require a two-week, high Protein, full liquid pre-op diet, basically the same diet that we follow for 2 weeks post-surgery. I, too, have been wondering about the variation in pre-op diets. They say the goal of the pre-op diet is to burn glycogen from your liver, which makes it smaller/firmer, and therefore easier for them to manipulate during surgery. I don't know. I understand that logic, but I don't understand why some surgeons don't bother with a pre-op diet at all, some only do a couple of days, some do 2 shakes and a mini-meal, etc. I had to cancel my surgery due to illness, the day BEFORE the procedure, so I've done a 2 week pre-op diet. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't a picnic. I have rescheduled my surgery, so my 2 week pre-op diet is supposed to begin while we are on vacation. I have no qualms about postponing the start of the diet for 3 days, until we get home. I'll do 11 days instead of 14, and I'm not going to worry about it. I am, however, going to continue with my "healthy" eating regime: Protein shake or yogurt shake for Breakfast and lunch, with a moderate, high protein/low carb meal for dinner. I have no doubt that I'll be fine. -
Experienced Sleevers - Tolerances/Intolerances
ButterflySeoul replied to brookebonic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Potatoes (instant) seem to want to put me in a coma lol... they make me seriously sleepy..like fighting to keep my eyes open, but I don't usually win the battle. I wonder if they're making my blood sugar rise too high.. that's probably it. But they seemed like a good idea for the soft food stage! And beef so far.. I'm still eating puree and soft foods, so I haven't had a lot of it-- but the little bit I have had in really small amounts, has just sat in my stomach like a brick. I have no problems at all with chicken or turkey. Turkey has a lot more Protein anyway, so that's a plus. I have no interest in my previous loves-- sweets.. I'm hoping that lasts! And so far tuna has not been my friend. The couple times that I had it, I either threw it up, felt like crap and should have thrown it up, or ended up having to spit out "slime" .. I don't know how to describe it. But tuna used to be one of my favorite foods--- and it's very unappetizing now. I hope that changes in the future. I haven't had any problems with dairy thank goodness- because I still have at least 1 cup of skim per day, in a Protein shake...and greek yogurt (I like the dannon light & fit greek-- I have always hated yogurt..but some of the greek flavors I like, and they have 12g of protein). Cottage cheese and hummus are my friends-- I don't need a celery stick- I just use a spoon lol. -

So much different medical advice on what we can eat post op.
Megan1982 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given my diet post op and it is pretty restrictive. I am three weeks out and I am allowed up to 3 meals a day, at a max of 4 oz of Protein per meal. I can also have a half cup of non starchy veggies. Also, all the sugar free, non carbonated beverages I can handle. I can't have fruit until week 8 and yogurt and milk for 6 months. Carbs are not allowed until 75% of excess weight is gone. Here is my problem, I cannot eat to save my life. I have no appetite and can only handle soft, or liquids. I could just not eat. I tell myself that is bad and I force myself to eat an ounce or two here and there. I see others mentioning applesauce, milk, yogurt, etc. and I WISH I had that option. I feel like at least then I could get something in that is kinda a solid. I think I drink 64 oz but protein intake is way under 60 grams. Any advice? Also, pills are equally as hard to take. Any tips? I feel WAY overwhelmed. -
Hi, everyone! I am 14 days post op and started stage 4 today introducing puréed foods. I have lost 16 pounds since surgery, but the scale hasn't moved in 3 days, and I honestly don't have the feeling of needing to go. I haven't been able to use the bathroom in 10 days and have been taking senna and Fiber stuff the last 4 days. Is this normal or what should I eat or take to help me? Sometimes I feel I am eating to much, most of the time I get half a cup or so in of something and it sits in my throat for 30mins is that the full feeling people have mentioned? I can eat yogurt, applesauce, oatmeal and I can easily eat the entire yogurt and not feel wicked full. Just making sure I am on the right track, thanks in advance for responses.

What are you eating at 8wks post op RNY?
NewAngela replied to countryrose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At that point I ate mainly shakes, refried Beans (Taco Bell pintos and cheese) plain kefir, low sugar yogurt, hard boiled eggs, hummus, cheese, Avocado, and puréed or cream based Soups or broth. I was still getting the hang of meats, veggies and scrambled eggs. I was able to eat a few crackers at this point, but I try to limit them. Anything harder than the very soft stuff could make me sick or cause pain. It was a time of transition. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Renkoss replied to countryrose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jccanada, I'm with pammieanne, it was constantly drilled no drinking anything 30 minutes before, or 30 minutes after, or during a meal. With that said, I am just over 8 weeks out from surgery, and my diet consists of mainly chicken, fish, ground meat (steak doesn't sit well yet), and pork. Fish I can do either fresh Water fish or shellfish. I do greek yogurt still, a Protein shake here and there, non-dairy ice cream (coconut milk or cashew milk), even though it has macaroni, Stouffer's Mac and cheese single serving cups, most cooked veggies. Things I still cannot eat: Steak, Lima Beans, Bread (by choice, not because I can't), Rice (again, by choice. I haven't tried either though), fries (fried food...nope!). You catch the drift. I stay away from those foods that I should not eat ever, and indulge in moderate type foods sparingly. Softer foods are ok. I can eat a few fruits now as well. I hope things improve for you. -
I love triple zero yogurt! What flavor has that much Protein? I think mine is around 16g. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Being denied due to weight gain...
TLW replied to achappex3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't stress,my hat only makes it worse. Try focusing on eating protein and veggies ONLY for awhile. It will get you through the carb craving phase and should jump start the weight loss. Eat eggs, cottage cheese, cheese sticks, chicken, turkey, lean red meats, beans, carrots, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, low fat Greek yogurt... Do you have a mandatory weight loss amount before surgery? -
Swallowing Pills - any suggestions
Bufflehead replied to Kimbalina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my sleeve surgery on 4/13/16. So I'm almost 2 mo. out. Glad to finally make it to eating almost all foods. Here are some things that have caused slight problems. anyone else experience this. Hard to get these to move through stomach: --swallowing pills (even after cutting in half) --Fiber foods like cereals (raisin bran, Kashi) --whole grain oatmeal --crackers When you say "move through the stomach" what do you mean? Do you throw them up? Do they make you feel sick? How do you know they are "not moving through the stomach"? If you have a serious condition like gastroparesis, you should consult a doctor. Side note, I never touched cereals of any kind, or crackers, or any other thing with grain until I hit my goal weight. That stuff will not help you lose weight IMO. Also my weight loss has slowed. What helps most: exercise drinking lots of Water eating less, and only eating Protein and frozen veg eating NO sweets or Desserts The last two. Exercise is not terribly helpful when it comes to losing weight. As they say, the battle for weight loss is won in the kitchen, not in the gym. http://www.vox.com/2016/4/28/11518804/weight-loss-exercise-myth-burn-calories Focus on eating protein, green veggies, and healthy fats such as small amounts of nuts, olive oil, grass fed butter, etc. High carb foods like fruit and dairy should be in moderation and IMO stay away from sweets, grains, and high carb veggies such as potatoes. I try to eat yogurt with fruit when i want something sweet. Be careful about amounts and types of fruit and yogurt -- stick with Greek yogurt without much added sugar and lower carb fruits like berries and peaches (tropical fruits such as bananas and mangoes have tons of carbs and sugars). Also I have resumed drinking coffee in a.m. but not sure how to do it since you can't eat and drink at same time. So is it best to have a cup of coffee and wait 1 hr before Breakfast. Or to eat something first thing like an egg cooked, then wait an hr before having coffee? My plan doesn't call for waiting an hour before and after food for drinking, only waiting for 30 minutes after food for drinking. I love my coffee too much to wait! If I had to follow your plan, I would drink my coffee first, wait, then eat. But I think whatever works better for you is fine. Good luck! -
