thanks for responding I think i have about 500 left on my deductible. i have about 4000 left for my maximum deductible. After that, the insurance pays 100% of all cost. So that gives me a lot of hope! I've talked to my insurance agency and ask about the 6 month diet thing because i had read so many stories on here about having to have the diet but the representative said i didn't need anything but a bmi over 40 and have it deemed clinically necessary by a physician. I'm hoping that doesn't change on me. The surgeon said it was done as an outpatient procedure in a local hospital. I thought i'd have to stay in the hospital a couple of days but I'm not sure. The surgeons office gave me a list of doctors but said i could go to anyone for the evaluation. I'm just waiting to get an appointment. I called several and left messages. Since most my deductible is met already i want to have this done before the new policy year rolls around because my original deductible is 3600.I don't want to have to pay that again. I have high hopes! this seems to be my last resort. I've tried so many diets, jsut to lose weight and gain what i lost plus 10-15 pounds more each time. having kids didn't help much either. but they are my driving force right now. I want to be able to play with them without getting tired or take them to the beach because as of now i'm too ashamed to wear a bathing suit. I just want to live and being overweight and self conscience about it is keeping me from being happy. All of you that have had this and have had success with it are such an inspiration to me. i keep looking at before and after stories/pics and cant help but wonder if that'll be me in a couple of years. it makes me want it even more! Congrats on your weightless! I can't weight to be where you are !!!

    Day 3Preop Diet

Honestly, the first three days of the pre-op diet were really hard for me. I turned a corner on Day 4 and 5 and it was (relatively) easy from there on out. It's such a huge adjustment - mentally and physically. Take good care of yourself and know that it WILL get easier. I promise! I always say that the pre-op diet was the hardest part of my entire weight loss experience! It's so much easier after you are sleeved and you have that powerful tool to combat hunger. For now, you gotta tough it out without the sleeve. Take it a day at a time (or maybe an hour or even minute at a time if you need to). You will get through this and you'll be sleeved before you know it. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I hope you love your sleeve as much as I love mine!
  3. chose the sleeve because I can't do it on my own. My wife knows and a family friend and thats it... Im tired of friends and famliy members telling me to go to weight watchers or watch The Biggest Loser.. I was a 325 and now after 10days of liqiuds I am at 312. I feel hungry pray 4 mmmefocusedfocused

    No weight goal

I'm still pre-op, but I set my weight goal for a healthy BMI because, to me, it doesn't make sense to do this and still be overweight or obese. I have seen so many people on here accomplish such great weight loss and I am definitely dedicated to doing the necessary work to get there, so I don't think that having a goal weight will make losing any more difficult, just more rewarding.
  5. Hello Everyone! Quick overview.... Started with my highest weight at 328, and was banded at 280 on March 30th 2010 in Mexico. I got all my fills and aftercare from Kaiser North Bay. Lowest weight was 190 in 2014 right after having my first baby. Now after my second baby I am up to 235. I am having problems with my band and finding a "sweet spot" for getting back on track. I am sure my pregnancies did a number on moving things around. I just went to a bariatric doctor yesterday in South San Francisco (my normal one is on vacation, so I saw his colleague) He was unable to fill be due to not finding the port and saying I was too heavy. I was very frustrated since I have NEVER had a problem having a fill even at 260+. My original doctor has told me before when I have asked for a revision that they do not take lapbands out unless it is an emergency situation. The doctor I saw yesterday told me he would take my lapband out anytime without question, but the revision was a different story. He said to even consider it I would have to get down to at least 210, and then we could go from there. I guess I am just wondering if anyone has gotten a revision from Kaiser South San Francisco or Richmond, voluntarily. My doctor keeps saying scar tissue will hinder him from doing anything.... Thanks everyone

Isnt that sad. lol anyways im sure everthing will be fine..i just get all nervouse that something will go wrong where i cant have it for some stupid reason. But i dont think that will happen. I also need to make my psy appointment today. I hope they can get me in soon. My insurance won't pay so out of pocket will be about 13k. It's going to be very hard to convince my hubby to let me finance this because he already believe I should lose weight the old fashioned way. Any suggestions on how to get insurance to pay? I wanted to lose a min of 50 lbs and a max of 70 lbs. some may thinks that's not enough for surgery but I have a fat person living in the inside so I'm always on the weight roller coaster.

    Post Op Pancreatitis

Try not to worry about the weight loss right now. Stay off the scale. You need to concentrate on relaxing and getting well. Your body is fighting illness AND healing from major surgery. You no doubt have lots of inflammation and are retaining fluid too. Even people not ill usually stall around 3 weeks post-op. Binge watch some netflix, do crossword puzzles, anything to keep your mind occupied. I hope you get the medical issues resolved and then can continue your journey. Good luck.

    Just Starting Out

Welcome Batcap and congratulations on the progress that you have made thus far. I'm about the same age as you and started out at a much higher weight. The difference that this has made for me is far beyond my wildest expectations. I wish you all of the best do your pre-op period and your surgery.
  12. I have always loved vegetables and have been eating them every day since I was cleared for all foods. The only problem I have from them is a bit of occasional gas. (But that won't stop me from eating them. I don't feel a meal is complete without my veggies.) Fruit, however, I avoided until I reached goal weight. I know that for me, sugar is an issue and I didn't want anything to interfere with my weight loss. Now that I'm in maintenance, I do eat fruit, but I stick to fresh fruit in small amounts. No fruit juices. I haven't tried banana yet. Just a bit too high carb, for now.
  13. Hi! We are neighbors of the surgery world. I had mine one day after you. Sounds like you are off to a good start. I've found tons of great info here but I think the most important was the thread about Ketosis. That is something I wasn't quite prepared for-yuck. Although worth it at the same time. Aviva - you asked about weight loss.....at 10 days post surgery I am down almost 20 pounds! I've been walking about a mile per day and today I'm going for my second bike ride. Moving and exercising slowly (very non-intensive and not weight bearing) has gone a long way toward lifting my spirits! Hang in there! Nancy
  14. Thank you both. I'm really trying to have a good attitude about the food part of this process. Funny thing is that lately food hasn't been as appealing or as enjoyable to me. Great timing and I hope that continues. I've NEVER not enjoyed food like now, so weird. But I'll take advantage of it and move forward. I'm okay with Protein shakes as I have used them many times in my past weight loss efforts. But I will also find protein rich foods I like as well. The countdown is on and I want to see what I can do in these next few weeks!

    23 years young...October 17th!

Hi Molly! Hope you're feeling better I'm 24 (Starting weight 114kg/251lbs) and I had my sleeve done on oct 9, it's been a little over a week now and I'm pretty much recovered. I now weigh around 105kg/231lbs. I'm just worried about scarring! Instead of sutures, my surgeon put derma-glue on it and it's healing well. The first day was hell with lots of gas and plenty of black out moments.. A nightmare. But it got progressively better as the hours went by and I was discharged on the 2nd day. I've been able to drink over 2 litres a day and get my Protein in and I can't wait till I can eat puréed stuff! I can already feel some of my clothes hanging a bit loose I started walking 2 hours a day, 1 hour at a time after the first week. Exercise has become easier cos there's less of me to lug around and do stuff. That part I definitely love. Time to build a new body and start living! My surgeon told me the highest weight loss would be within the first 3 months post surgery, so we need to work our butts off during this period to lose as much weight as possible before it slows, and I intend to do just that!
  16. Hello, I guess this is the first step that makes it a realization that I am ready for a significant change. I have been fighting my weight for about 10 years now. It was found that I had hypothyroidism about 4 years ago. (5 years after gaining all the weight.) I have been on meds. and my THS is controlled. Well, the weight still is out of control. I am right at 40 BMI and am afraid that it will not be dramatic enough for imy insurance company to cover the lap band. I have a significant family history of diabetes and cancer, and am nervous that these things might await me if my weight continues to be a factor. A year ago I was 30 pounds lighter due to excessive dieting and workouts. Also, I used Merida for extra help. Well, I stopped Merida and the weight came right back on. I have my initial appointment in a week. I guess I will see what the nurse's thoughts are regarding my qualifications. Are there others out there who were approved based on a 40 BMI?
  17. I only had to do a 5 day preop diet and I lost 10 pounds in those 5 days. It actually wasn't too hard. Clear liquid diet with 3 protien shakes a day. Could be any kind of protien shake as long as each shake was under 200 calories. I'll admit, I cheated a bit because I drank the Oh Yeah! shakes and they were 220 calories each. Other than that, all Clear liquids. You can have as much broth (add a bullion cube for flavor), sugar free Jello, black coffee, and unsweetened tea as you want. Try to get at least 60 oz of Water each day. Most of what you're going to lose is water weight anyway. All the sodium from holiday foods will do a number on you. That's why so many people dropped so much in just a few days. When you start a diet the first thing to go is the water weight. Good luck to you. I know it sucks to be sick right before surgery. I had a sinus infection and I was scared to death to go to the doctor about it because I was afraid they would postpone my surgery so I took cold pills (non asprin kind) every four hours and used a netti pot twice daily to get rid of it without antibiotics.
  18. I am flying in about a month and a half and realized something last night that kind of worries me. In the past, at 324, I needed a seatbelt extender. I am now 245, with hopes to be around 230-235 when I fly. people that weight, did you need a seatbelt extender? I know there are variables, but just curious.
  19. Make sure you spend a lot of time before your surgery reading the Post-Op forum, if you haven't already! Some questions get asked every single day so you'll be well-prepared if you read in advance. Things like: --omg it's three weeks after my surgery and I haven't lost any weight for the past week, is my surgery a failure? --omg I can drink liquids easily, what is wrong with me? Did my surgery even happen? --omg I'm eating puree and I can eat more than two teaspoonfuls, am I doomed to fail? --my stomach is making weird rumbly noises like a dying moose, is it about to explode? --I had surgery two days ago and don't feel up to running a 10K yet, what is wrong with me? --I had major surgery three days ago where a big part of a vital organ was removed, muscles and nerves were cut and I have incisions all over the front of my body. I am in pain. Is this normal? Should I actually be taking the painkillers that were prescribed for me? --what should I take to the hospital with me? etc etc (as you can see I'm feeling kind of grumpy about endlessly repeated questions this morning, lol -- it is nothing personal, I promise) Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Check in when you can and let us know how everything went
  20. Today is the day that I officially started pureed food (however I did cheat just a tiny bit by having TINY amounts Monday and Tuesday). It's exactly two weeks after my surgery, and I'm down about 10 pounds. Oddly enough, I actually have gained back a few pounds since Monday when I had very small amounts of real food. I stepped on the scale and now I'm down 8 pounds. I'm still absolutely thrilled I've been able to shed that amount in two weeks, people are already noticing!! However, I do find it odd a gained a few of those pounds back since I'm burning far more calories than I'm taking in. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Skinny person trapped in a fat body..

Congratulations on your date, pretty soon. Just remember it's a tool to help you. I am far from perfect but without this wonderful 'tool' I would still be more obese. My 1 year is the 30th and my weight could have been less if I was perfect. Working out is very important, I'm happy you love it. Good luck and keep us informed.

    In the beginning...

I probably should've started this blog at the very beginning of my journey but better late than never right? I guess I'll start from the beginning. Back in High school I wasn't very overweight. I actually looked pretty good now that I look at pics of myself. I wore between and 11-13 and weighed between 145 and 160. After graduation, I married a guy that I shouldn't have and I gained about 80 lbs. So then I was up to 240. After about 2 1/2 years of depression from an abusive relationship we finally seperated. I lost about 30 lbs and I was back into 12/13 and very happy because I met the real love of my life. We dated for about year and he proposed to me. We got married and he deployed to afghanistan 2 weeks later. During his deployment I gained the weight I lost back plus some bringing me to the grand total of 247 lbs. People when then look at me say I don't look that big b ut everyone knows when you actually carry this weight and see it on yourself its a whole different story. Naturally gaining all that weight made me more depressed which put strain on my marriage. I'm so lucky that even though my husband and I had fights to where I thought it was really over, he never gave up on me. He stuck by my side. I am truly blessed. I tried to work out and eat right but you know how that goes... your motivated you start that monday and by thursday your slacking again. I decided to get the band because a friend of mine had it and lost 60 lbs. Also my older sister decided to be banded with me. She was banded Dec. 5. Since being banded on February 16th as of yesterday I've lost 13.5 lbs. I figured out today if I lose 2 lbs a week minimum, I can lose about 66lbs by my birthday (oct. 5) leaving about 9 lbs to go to my goal. I know thats not counting the plateaus that seem inevitable. :cool2: I just really want to do well on this. The stories of people who lost huge are such and inspiration to me and then there are the stories of people who only lost a little and I know its mainly because they probably weren't doing what they were supposed to. I just don't want to mess this up. This was a huge decision I made and I want to be successful. I want to be happy again with myself. I owe to myself and my husband. I want him to have the confident woman he married back. He's been so good to me.Ok well I think thats enough for my first post. Keep in touch, I'll try to update at least once a week....or month...we'll see :wink2: Later Bandsters!

    Pre-Op Diets

Some times I think its just because the size of that person, I lucked out, my Doc doesn't believe in it and he just asks you do what you can for a few or so weeks before the surgery to lose what you can and said it may help, also adding not to gain to much over a few pd.s or there would be consequence for it.

    Feeling Depressed

Yes, B12 deficiency can cause fatigue and a host of other issues, too. But it sounds like you should talk to someone in person, if that's an option for you. Sometimes the start of the weight loss journey brings other issues we have (but blamed on the weight) to a head. It's not uncommon for people to battle depression after surgery. In fact, there's a sticky'd thread about it somewhere on VST! I'd get in to the doc and ask for guidance. Perhaps counseling could help. Vitamin deficiency could be a culprit and exercise will help you release more serotonin and help you feel less "down." This could be your signal, feeling this way, to get started on the head work that should accompany your surgery. Periods of depression happen to a lot of us (I've had my share!) but getting at the underlying issue can only help you in the long run to be a happier and overall healthier person. Best, ~Cheri
