    Still losing--Do I need a fill?

I cant imagine why you'd want a fill if you're still losing. The more you can eat and still lose, the better nourished you will be. Or should be depending on your food choices :-P Once your weight loss slows down, then think about it. I'm not banded yet though!

    Phentermine...

I took phentermine for a while a few years back. I lost 50lbs with that and a low calorie diet. The only thing it did to me was make me jittery. I was also taking b12 for some energy... overall, I didn't have that great of energy. Oh and I gained about 55lbs when I came off it. But then again, I didn't follow that diet anymore either.
  3. I'm 5 years post, I did really good untill about 8 months ago I started gaining back, I know what I'm doing wrong, I'm cheating! I have restriction but have learned how to eat around my band, I had lost 150 lbs and have put 50 back on, looking for similar stories and motivation and advice to get back on track fast! I'm almost at max fill on a 10cc band. Thanks in advance! Signed Disappointed in myself!

Am I losing weight too slowly?

Everyone is different, but try hard not to compare your weightloss with others. It's discouraging. Keep in mind that you weigh less than you did before and you are never going to get the weight back. You are on the path to your goal and although it may have a few bumps along the way, your going to reach your goal. Congratulations on your weight loss.

    almost 2 years out

Mary, congratulations on your amazing success -- I am so happy for you! 100 pounds is my goal as well, though is won't really know until I'm closer if that's the right number for my body. But I'm very hopeful that I can get there. And at seven months out and fifty some down, I am thrilled with my band. Even more then the weight loss is the great relief and feeling of freedom -- out of food jail.

    Worrywart

God didn't make us with 85% less stomach, but he also didn't make us to give into temptation and get ourselves to where we are today. The idea is to use those he has put in our path with the talent and ability to perform a procedure that will get us back to where God wants us. Healthy and able to avoid the temptation the devil puts in front of us so we don't abuse the beautiful body and life God was loving enough to give us in the first place. Don't give in to doubt! God put you here at this time for a reason. I feel that I'm here right now because this is where God needed me to be so I could benefit from the procedure the has helped the medical profession perfect. Years ago they would have taken my stomach, or I would have been wearing a mu-mu waiting to die from a coronary or a stroke. Now with this procedure, I get to keep my stomach, lose weight, be healthy and live a long, happy life. Good luck!!!

    One week

It's been one week since my surgery. I'm glad it's over because I was so nervous. So far, the only problem I've had is the pain on Sunday/Monday (doctor saw me and it was just some irritation in the muscle) and also constipation. (I finally just went a few minutes ago....OMG, thank goodness!) When I had my pre-op I was weighing in at 273 and my BMI was a whopping 43. When I weighed at the doctor Monday, I was 264. On my scale last night, I was 264 as well so I guess I'll trust my home scale enough for my weekly weight log. Anyway, I'm excited! I'm on soft foods and I'm really glad because the liquid only diet was kind of scary because I was hungry a lot. I was wondering if the band would really help me. Now, after having soft foods for a couple days I am confident that very small amounts of food will make me full. I will have to get used to not drinking with my food though when I start solids in a couple weeks. That will be the real challenge. I know I can do it though. Yay for medical science!
  8. So finally after almost a year long process I am looking surgery straight in the eye and not going lie, I'm scared! After years of losing weight and putting it back on I am ready to put an end to it. I have never been in the hospital , unless you count the day I was born, nevermind had surgery of any kind so recently I have been thinking "i cant go through with it". I dont want to chicken out since I have been dreaming of this day. Any words of advice?

    Time off after surgery

Hi there, I learned that everyone is different. I teach and had mine over the Christmas break. There is no way that I could have gone back any sooner than 3 weeks. I was in tons of pain. It was worse than my both of my c-sections. I don't know why I had so much pain. I was also very exhausted the first 2 weeks back at school, but I think that's because I was dropping weight so fast. It was 6 weeks before I felt pretty normal. My friends didn't have the pain that I had and the little bit they had only lasted a couple of days. 2 had their procedure on a Thursday and went back to work Monday. So everyone is very, very different. Happy Lapbanding to you!!!

11 months put and 60kg down

Congrats!! I'm 3 months out and fell it's the best decision I ever made regarding my health and weight loss.. Congratulations on ur success.
  11. Hi AnneB, I too was banded on 11/29/10. I was given the go ahead to eat solids 3 weeks post op and though I still had no hunger I ate freely the week of Christmas. I had lost about 25 lbs, but gained back about 7 during that week. Luckily I had my 1st fill of 3 ccs on 12/27/10, though I still didn't notice much change in restriction. I recomitted to myself to get back on track and am doing much better. I still don't have any hunger pains which is awesome! My surgeon keeps stressing, don't eat if you aren't hungry, so I eat very little as I am not hungry....ever. I get head hungry and think I want food, but I know it's not my stomach that is hungry so I stay away from the kitchen at those times. I do eat lean meat every few days to get some protein and I noticed that I now have some restriction when I eat it. It took about a week for me to notice any change from the fill. I start Spring classes Tuesday and am looking forward to keeping my mind more on my studies than on food I also will be getting my 2nd fill on Wednesday, so I am curious to see the difference in restriction. I have not weighed myself again since I recieved my 1st fill and am waiting until I go in again Wednesday to see if I am doing better. It's great to talk to someone who had surgery the same day as I did Feel free to message me with any comments or questions. Good luck to you!!!
  12. I'm trying to stay positive.... I mean I'm really TRYING hard to stay positive, but it is so hard. So now I'm up to 9.5 cc's and no restriction. I'm really hungry, in fact I feel as if there is no band. I can eat anything, no issues. I am finding it increasingly difficult to not eat myself into an oblivion. So far it's calorie counting, and battling that constant, nagging hunger, the last thing I want is to regain any of the weight that I have lost. My biggest fear is never getting that restriction. I have to wait another month until I get another fill, and quite frankly I'm running out of room in my band. I'm feeling overwhelmed by feelings of failure and that maybe I'm that person who this will not work for. Most of the time I try not to think like that, but since this last fill not changing anything, it's getting harder and harder to feel good about this process. Anyone else out there been through this?

    Still "On the Fence"

I get alot of " You dont look like you weight THAT much " . Im 5'4 and i weight 240 . Apparantly I carry my weight well according to everyone . I DONT See it. I have had a few people tell me " You dont need the surgery it you dont look like you weight that much " That gets frustrating . As for your DH . My dh went through alot of the same things, with me. A LOT OF his issues were lack of awareness about the band. Has he gone to a seminar with you ? Have you showed him info on how diets fail and end up putitng on MORE WEight than before the diet ? I also explained to him that the band was something I felt I could DO and succeed with . Diets were not "Doable" for me and That even exercise at this weight was painful. Eventually he came around . He's supportive now . Good luck . I have known for 2 yrs this is 100% what i wanted. Dont do it unless you know . Sure I still have doubts ( Im not banded yet ) But it passes and I get my determination back to get the surgery done NOW . LOL Good luck , I hope you figure things out Mindy
  14. One of the top predictors of long term success with WL is tracking your food/exercise etc. I weigh myself daily - I no longer am swayed if I am at the same weight for a while, as the trend continues downward - work through those stalls. I track calories, Protein, carbs, fat, and Fiber. I also keep track of my liquid intake, my Vitamins, meds (very few now) - I do have a myfitnesspal login but I use good old paper journals, and track exercize/walking with Runkeeper. Carbs and Water consumption seem to have the most significant impacts on how I feel, and how much I lose. I am a pound and a smidge from Onederland - a place I have been hanging out at for a couple of weeks (also a serious set point from my long ago past) Looking forward to seeing a 1 in front, rather than a 2...waay better than the 3
  15. Just curious to know which of you are in the University of Washington Weight Management Program. I find it very helpful to find others going to the same facility as yourself.. I have a hard time remembering which of you members are in Western Washington. If you are, say Hello and the stage you're in!

    July Sleevers?

I am having my Sleeve done July 10th. I am having it though a surgeon in California. I am kind of nervous because my BMI is lower then most. I have had the band about 7 years and have been having trouble. I am only 15 lbs away from my goal weight. I was never successful at loosing weight prior to the lap band. Some people are concerned that I have such a Low BMI and am getting the sleeve. My history tells me, I would go right back to where I was. I have worked hard to get where I am. Naturally, if I was this weight and no lap band, I would not even consider WLS. Any input would be appreciated. Best of luck to all you July sleevers.
  17. Hey everyone! As much as I like to read about the different stories about weight loss surgery, I love really meeting those behind those stories. So I decided to create a local meetup group for people who are in the process of getting weightloss surgery and folks who have already gotten the surgery. If any of you are in the Maryland, Virginia or Washington D.C. area check out my meetup group: http://www.meetup.com/Bari-fabulous/. We are having our first meetup late May/Early June!

    Finally surgery on Nov. 19

I finally recieved my date for surgery yesterday, the 19th of Nov. three days before my birthday, Happy Birthday to me. I like this gift but am really scared. Woke up this a.m. and first thing I thought of is "what the hey am I doing, this is so drastic". wish I could do it on my own, but I know I can't, have tried it many times. I just pray I am doing the right thing. I know if I don't do it I won't live to see my grandkids grow up. I am so tired of not be able to do anything because of my weight, and I want to do everything. My husband and I retired and now is the time to play. I can't so I believe I am doing the right thing, we'll see. :mad2:
  19. Hi everyone I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before it's been a while since I've been on this site. I had my sleeve surgery done 5 years ago so I have been through a lot of ups and downs and I would say I'm on the more experienced side of being a sleever..... I am at a stage now where I have put on quite a bit of weight, probably over 20 kgs since I hit my goal weight. I lost overall 55 kgs on the sleeve and I was so happy. There has been a few complications such as a hiatus hernia operation, appendicitis and I've recently had surgery on my ankle which has made me put on even more weight. I am trying to get back to my goal weight and I am finding it difficult to shift any weight. I have POS which makes it hard too. I've tried shake diets, low carb diets and I lose maybe a few kgs, then put it back on if I even have one day of eating something such as bread. I'll admit I'm not in the best place the moment, most days I'm sad and down about this and all I want to do is get back to what I was. I wanted to know if anyone has gone through what i am currently going through and have you been successful in losing weight again? I really need advice and some tips and the best people would be the ones who are going through this journey with me. Thank you.

    Finally

I am so happy finally the day has come. I started the journey February of this year. My insurance require a 6 month medical supervised weight loss program with my PCP. July 10 was my last month. I only had to so 5 because I first went about my weight was October 2013. My PCP office faxed everything to the surgeon office on Tuesday July 16. I was told that it would take about 2-3 wks before I knew it got approved from the insurance. Well I got a called Tuesday July 22 to tell me that it is approve my pre-op is schedule for July 30 and my surgery date is August 11. I have been waiting for this day it kinda a bitter sweet I'm excited and nervous at the same time. All I can say is Wow.

    "Self image"

Don't let others' misinformed pre-conceived notions of what you'll look like color your future. I almost let that happen to me. One person told me my face and neck were going to sag, and that I'd need a lift. She went as far to tell me that in a year she was going to follow up and make sure that I took care of it. I've been obese my entire adult life - 20+ years. I have pictures of myself at a normal weight from when I was a teenager - from when I was told I was getting fat and needed to lose weight. I had a rockin' body then! So, I have a general idea of what I'll look like in clothes, but I know I will be saggy - I'm much older now. That's just a fact of life. You are beautiful - there's no doubt about it. If there is something about your appearance as you slim down that you're not as happy with as you'd like, you'll address it. It might be with makeup, clothes, foundation garments, or some other physical method, but it will be on your terms and based on your opinion. Don't let someone else's insecurities of their own appearance or their opinions about what you should look like influence you. You've made the decision for the surgery for your own good. Keep up that perspective as you continue, and you'll do fine. I hope your recovery is going well, and good luck in the future!
  22. Hi, I have just joined these forums and this is my first time posting, I hope I don;t do anything wrong! On 14th May 2014 I was given a Sleeve by Dr Mannur at Homerton Hospital, London, UK. Prior to the pre op diet I weighed 34 Stone 4lb at the age of 25 and things were desperate, I was hugely struggling with day to day life. I followed the 'Milk Diet' for 31 days and on the day of Surgery I weighed exactly 31 stone. I had great success with the sleeve and before too long I weighed 21 stone 4 lb and I was happy. I went away to America on a holiday and over indulged on the bad things. I thought it was ok as I would get back into the swing of things when I got home, but I didn't. My weight crept back up to 29 stone and I felt hopeless. I knew it was time for change so sorted my head out and got back into the swing of things. The weight was coming back off and I joined Slimming World for the extra support. Then, in 2017 my surgeon told me that he wanted to perform a DS on me. I was against that as I had read up about it and personally didn't feel comfortable. He then suggested a Bypass which I agreed to. I had the surgery last week (17th April 2018) and on the day of surgery I weighed 24 stone. I had a different surgeon this time, Dr John Loy. My big question is what will my diet be like in 6 weeks time when I am back on solid food? I find plenty of information from people that have had a Sleeve or Bypass - but not both! I am hugely excited for my future, but I want to prepare myself for my new life and exactly what it will be like. Thank you for any help you can provide and sorry for the long post!

    GERD with sleeve a problem?

I have had unusually bad problems with GERD post-surgery. Please note that I'm still happy that I did the sleeve, however. I was always a GERD patient, but 2x Prilosec a day would take care of it for me. However post-sleeve the acid become intolerable, and I was vomiting stomach acid repeatedly 3-4 days after coming home. I can't say this has totally resolved for me, but it's calmed down to a level that for now is manageable, particularly when I got past the liquid phase of the diet and could get some food in my stomach to absorb the acid. Since getting sleeved my GP has informed me that stomach acid is the single most common reason for people getting the sleeve revised. Things that helped: * When I got to full liquids, I added low-sodium V8 to my liquids list. For some reason this helped to quiet down my stomach a bit, which led to my belief that I might have been suffering from low acid instead of high. I'm still puzzled about this; if you do some Google searching you will find that they have quite similar symptoms. Part of me thinks the increased acidity of the V8 just helped activate the Prilosec. * An old household remedy - a shot of apple cider vinegar right before bed, followed by a teaspoon of honey to soothe the flavor a bit. Please note there is, so far as I know, absolutely no scientific evidence that this does anything at all. But I started doing it the day I started feeling better, and superstition or not, I feel not desire to wake up choking again, so I keep doing it. * Once I got to mushies, eat every 2 hours. This means my calorie intake is higher than most peoples' around here (I get about 1500 calories a day), but given my weight this actually still allows for great weight loss - in 4 weeks I have lost 41 lbs. Eating small amounts regularly - which is not what's recommended by many nutritionists - has helped keep my stomach calm. My doctor promises that, as the inflammation goes down and time passes, my stomach will reduce its production of acid and this will get better. I remain hopeful. But as I said at the outset, even with the acid, I'm glad I did this. Don't disregard it as a factor though - it's a real issue that impacts many sleevers and could cause you to need a revision, so it's something you should discuss with your doctors.

    Need advise for PCP

Thanks for your response!! =) Well all went well with my PCP on Friday. She said that by my BMI alone I would be recommended for weight loss surgery. They gave me a phone number to call to get more information and I called their Choices program phone line and I have an appointment to go to an orientation at their Corona Medical Office. Once I'm there, the guy said they'll give me an application to fill out, I'm guessing to go through the 12 week class. I hope that it's minimally difficult. I'm willing to put in the time and effort that's not an issue, but I hope I don't have to jump through too many hoops. =)
