    NSV shout outs

I'm looking forward to crossing my legs comfortably. I can still do it now, but it was definitely easier when I was 165 lbs - and I'm sure it will be even easier when I'm at my goal weight of 145. My NSV today is that in a week, I've lost 2.25 inches off of my waist, 1.5" off of my hips, and 1.75" off of my thighs!

    NSV shout outs

Free to be me.... That was probably my FIRST really BIG nsv!!!! I LOVE that one... and anyone who has never been overweight will NEVER know the signifigance of it!! People take it for granted that you can cross your legs.. but being obese..... it is impossible. I can remember sitting in chairs, legs going numb because of the way I had to sit. I had an NSV, but at the "expense" of my dear friend. It surprised me.. and then it saddened me. We were standing outside of her store, smoking a cig and they were gong to unload a delivery and the doors were proped open with the truck trailer backed up to unload. So we had to go back in... and I went first.. to "slip" thru the doors and the truck.. and I did it with no problem.. and I heard my friend say.. you might be able to do that.. but I don't think I can.. and she couldn't. She had to un-prop the doors and bring them in so she could get thru. It was an accomplishment for me, because in the past I always had to look around and see if I could "fit" in a chair, or make it thru an opening.. or take the "long way around". I felt her "pain".. I have known her 15 years, and I have been "obese" the whole time.. and she was thin. But she has had some medical ( thyroid ) issues and she has gained alot of weight. I know it was embarressing for her... and I know how I use to feel. I don't have that "anxiety" over "fitting" into something... be it a chair... a restruant booth... or passing someone in an isle in the grocery store. But it was a bitter sweet NSV... my gain.. but felt her pain. Especially for someone who has been thin.. and then knowing how big I was... I almost felt like she resented me at the moment.

    Happy with Six Months Out

Pumpkin, I wish the media would mention the Sleeve more often too. It is still not in the cultural lexicon the way the gastric bypass is. I think that time will fix that as more people get it done. Certainly, by then we will have more info on the long term. BTW, another cool NSV: I just looked down and noticed that my legs were crossed naturally by themselves. Way cool! Pen
  5. That's awesome Humming bird. Thanks for sharing. I'ts so motivational to hear about everyone's NSV I cant wait till I go thru that experience.
  6. NSV! had to share. I have not lost a pound in awhile, but must still taking off some inches. My size medium scrubs are very baggy now! Last week I went and bought a pair of jeans. St. Johns Bay brand size 12. They fit really nice. I wore them last weekend and every time I passes the mirror I was shocked at how thin they made me look. Yesterday after I pulled them out of the dryer I was sure they shrank up so much I would never be able to wear them. I held them up and they looked so tiny. I was thinking, "oh crap, I can't return them after I already washed them. I thought they were 'rinsed' and would not shrink." Well, I decided to try them on and see just how much they shrank. OMG! They zipped up and fit perfect! My brain just still needs to catch up.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Like so many other people, I was hoping the weight would miraculously fall off quicker, but I'm NOT complaining -I had my surgery on 02-04-2010 and lost about 37 lbs. It's weird, because even though my clothes are baggy, they aren't HUGE on me... I would have thought that 37 lbs would make more of an impact size-wise. I have had a few NSV's which make this whole process SO worthwhile (like airplane seatbelts fitting easily, having a lap again  and not feeling like a wolverine wanting to eat everything in sight )...I'm SO glad I made the decision to have the surgery :tt2:

    Finally!!!

Carol, I am proud of you for hanging in there and not getting discouraged, not reverting to your pre-band ways. That is a huge NSV!!!! Mimi

    sweet spot and NSV

Awesome! Congrats! Riding amusement park rides with my son, shopping for clothes in a "regular" store, and not hiding from cameras are all on my list of reasons for having the surgery. That's THREE NSVs!!! Great job rockin that band!

    Outrageous Octobers

I'm on my way to being banded in October, hopefully the 15th or 18th... Yahoo... Tough work, but well worth it. Are you getting banded then too?? I would love to have friends to talk and share my experiences with, for Encourgament and Cheers for scale & NSV goals.
  13. CraftyChristie

    I have a new job!

WOW, what an awesome NSV as well as a fantastic lifestyle change. This will also help you in your goals of staying healthy, plus you get to pass on your knowledge to kids who really need it. I think it's wonderful!!

Shopping in regular stores is just about the ultimate NSV. You are doing wonderful, keep it up!!! Mimi
  15. 1 more thing. Take measurements of yourself. Even though you might not show a weight loss you will be amazed at how many inches you will lose. You will start to notice your clothes getting looser which is a great feeling. NSV~ Im 4wks post-op today & yesterday I got into a dress that I no longer fit into. :cursing:

    NSV shout outs

It's been awhile for an NSV... but the other night FLOORED me... I went out to a club with a few girlfriends... and a 35 year old HIT on me!! I'm 51 and NOT a cougar ( but he sure coulda made me one!! LOL ) I thought at first he was just "messing" with me... but he was persisstant.. and even talked to my girlfriends and said how much he was attracted to me he was and was serious. Do I believe this?? NO.. lol But was it flattering?? YES!!! * he was a "hottie" too!!! 2nd NSV that I had was.... I use to be soooo big that it was hard to find a bra that fit.. they are hard to find when you are as big as I was.. I wore a 54 D.. and had to buy bra extenders!! What was the NSV is when I was that big.. the bra use to ride up my back.. and I always found myself "tugging" at my bra to bring it down and put it in place... I am now in a 38 B and I NEVER have to touch my bra!! That may sound "trivial".. but it use to bother the fire outta me!

    I'm here to help...

Linda and Laura, great pics, both of you. You ladies are looking good, and so are kids and family, cakes and aprons. So sorry about Merry. Hope surgery goes well and prognosis is good. My daughter's guinea pig died. Her just-turned-3 year old was holding him inside his little sleeping bag. She was cooking and when she came to check and put him back in his cage, he was dead on the floor inside the bag with blood coming out his mouth. She has no idea what happened but she felt so guilty for not supervising (though Josh had handled the pig many times before safely and seemed to have no clue what had happened) that a few days later she adopted what appears to mostly be a male poodle but they think is also a Bijon Frisee(sp). She wanted that mix because they're not supposed to shed and she and Joshua have asthma and are allergic to dog hair or the saliva on the hair or whatever. The dog had had surgery for a salivary gland cyst. He was a stray but the doc thinks he's about 3. David named him Frankie. Great dog so far. Doesn't yip or bark, comes when called, stays right by whomever. Followed the boys out the door last night and jumped into my car right after them without an invitation. Stood on David's lap to see out the window then came to the front and stood on my husband's lap and arm to see out but didn't bother me since I was driving. Seems very smart. But he's shedding and my daughter's afraid because Josh's asthma is kicking in but it started before they got the dog and she's hoping its weather related. Dog days of August are notorious for triggering asthma in this part of the country. Hope the dog fares better than the guinea pig. Fortunately, David, who got the pig as a Christmas present, was at my house staying the night. We held the funeral the next day. David wanted a cross to mark the spot. He doesn't know that somehow his brother was responsible. He keeps asking questions about what happened and we keep saying we don't know. Mom just found him dead. He's not too good at expressing emotion because of his autism, but he fed the pig everyday and spent time petting him and holding him on his lap. His name was Possum Pete. RIP Possum Pete. A couple of days ago I saw a fawn get hit by a car and thrown across the street. When I got close enough to see what had been hit, the fawn moved and tried to get up. I flagged down a car on a side street and had them call the police. The fawn was trying to get back to the other side of the road into the forest preserve. I stood there crying until an officer came. The officer kind of walked and shoved the fawn back into the forest preserve and helped cars go around it and then shot it once it was back "home". I wish he'd done it right away. It was very hard to watch it struggle. By the way, some of the stories of things people have said to you in stores about being fat have been horrific. I do comfort myself knowing that what goes around, comes around. It's a natural law that God has somehow worked into his plans for people's lives. I am a firm believer in natural consequences. People either learn from them or they don't. But the shame is always on them. And we are no longer letting other's thoughts and opinions and assinine behavior drive us into the food. NSV. Had a great day at the Indiana State Dunes for my granddaughter's birthday yesterday. The humidity cleared out of the air and the sky was very clear. We could just see the Chicago skyline across the lake. Very tiny. The sun got to be intense, but we could cool off in the water. Laura, glad your mom and dad are doing better. I hope nothing has happened to your missing neice(?). Going off to see someone she's never met and not communicating back would have me worried. Hope she gets in touch soon and is OK. Who's the tall guy in the pics? or was he the uncle? Just looked different standing up. And the two young ladies? Beautiful day today, too, but too hot to be outside without a pool or a lake to dive into. I've got Dr.s apptmts and tests sceduled just about every free moment next week (mammogram, bone density, vein Dr., endocrinologist). Finishing up IM training with 2 students Monday, testing incoming students on Tuesday, in meetings Weds, Thurs., and Fri., and start teaching the following Weds., the 28th. Where'd my summer go? Oh yeah, I didn't have one. LOL. Sang today both morning church services for my exercise. If it cools down this evening I'll try to walk. Walked an hour Thurs, Fri, and Sat. early morning before the bad heat. Cheri

    NSV shout outs

Big NSV for me this weekend - Moved both of the boys back to the dorms to start college. Just like last year, we carried all the stuff in, then went to Target to pick up all of the last minute things. Last year, my knees were screaming and my feel were like fat puffy sausages that were threatening to burst at any moment. I didn't dare sit down anywhere because I knew I would never be able to get up and walk back out to the car again. This year....we carried everything in, put it away and then as I was walking through Target I realized something.... I FELT GOOD!! AND HAPPY!!! I had energy and I wasn't hurting anywhere!! We bopped back over to the college and had to run through the rain (ok, well I am still pretty big lol so I maybe more like did this weird loping fast walk thing haha) back into the dorms and finished setting up the rooms. It doesn't really seem like much when I write about it now, but it felt so good!! :nono:

    Way off track

So it has been forever since I have been on here, and its very much my own fault, but I've also been very embarassed to post. I have barely lost anything and still fighting with the dreded 4 lbs. And I see people are having tummy tucks already, It's so discouraging (being honest here) I started excercising more, I even bought some free weights and the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, and that actually shifted 2 lbs. I've had a couple of NSV's a major one being returning 2 pairs of pants because they were huge on me, and buying tops in a size medium (which are big on me). I go throught this inches vs lbs thing alot and it seems to happen more often then not. I'm just trying to figure out what it is I'm doing wrong. I was off to a great start and it has come to a screeching hault. In other good news, I NY hospital for Joint disease finally accepts my insurance, so I'm going to see a Hip specialist on friday (8/20) and maybe they can give me more insight on ways to be comfortably active, or maybe even just fix my hip once and for all. I hope everyone is doing fantastic and keep up the awesome work!!!

    Finally! I'm down a size!!

Awesome NSV!!! I can not wait to be able to post the same!
  21. NSVs are "non-scale victories." Sometimes, the scale doesn't cooperate, but you still lose inches, or clothing sizes. Or, you have other experiences that remind you of how far you've come, like fitting in a movie theater seat better, or going through a turnstyle without having to turn sideways (the guy at Guitar Center thought I was insane when this happened for me--I kept going back through that turnstyle, I was so thrilled!), or not needing a seatbelt extender on an airplane, or fitting in an amusement park ride. That sort of thing. PB means "productive burping." It sometimes happens if you've eaten that one bite too much---you feel icky, then burp, and a little food comes up, but goes back down. It's a not-quite-throw-up sort of thing. I don't tend to experience it--I tend to just throw up.
  22. *I also wanted to know about NSV and PB (thought everyone was having Peanut Butter or something!!)
  23. WTG! I love hearing about NSVs......

    Lets Celebrate !!!!!

Just getting this thread started again, as I KNOW there are several NSV's that we can celebrate in our 2nd year of banding! My family just returned from a very active trip to Sequoia, Lake Tahoe, and Yosemite - many steep, long hikes to waterfalls and to see the beautiful giant Sequoia trees, as well as canoeing and swimming. I felt like I did 20 years ago - I kept up with my fit Husband and two young sons (7yrs & 8 yrs - very active) and felt GREAT! A few weeks back I water skiied (single) for the first time in 10 years - I felt like a teenager! It just feels so good to actively participate in life again, instead of sitting on the sidelines or vegging in front of the TV, mindlessly eating and lethargic! I'm still training for a 5 mile mud run in a couple of weeks, and I can't believe I can jog 3 miles without stopping. I hope all of you are enjoying your new bodies and associated health benefits too!
  25. Loose shorts, loose t-shirt and a looser golf shirt over that so no bra required. Flip-flops for shoes. I wore the same basic outfit yesterday for my port revision surgery too. Funny, one of the nurses called me 'Slim' and suggested that I buy some better-fitting shorts. That was definitely a NSV. Pretty sure the bracelets can be purchased on eBay.
