can i vent for a moment?

I've been (in the past) 10 lbs from goal on weight watchers and then I started yo yo dieting. Just watch those signs because it could be a sign that your body doesn't want that 10 lbs off. good luck.

can i vent for a moment?

I'm sure that alot of folks around here would love to be 10 pounds from our goal weight, but that fact doesn't dimininsh that those 10 pounds seem to be causing you unhappiness. Weight issues are weight issues. It can be 100 pounds or 10 pounds. If it causes you grief or hurt then you are in the same boat as we are, and YES you are one of us. Check out Weight Watchers online and take the free tour. If you like it, then it is reasonably priced to use. I just started it last week and lost 2 pounds so far. It has been a great motivator to me. Best of luck to you... ((hugs))
  4. Hello, I was banded yesterday (10/14/09) and have extreme pain from gas. There is no comfortable position. Any advise? How long does it takes to go away? Thank you!
  5. I start my liquid diet on Friday!! We have the same surgery date though! I can not wait until the 14th! I just left Wal-Mart with all my liquid diet I could find. My doctor only requires a 10 day diet so Friday will be the big day!!!
  6. Hi everyone, thought I'd check in and see if anyone is still coming onto the site from March 07. Today is my 7 year anniversary with my band. I am super happy I did this.... My life looks so different than it did 7 years ago.... I did gain 10 lbs this year so I am working at getting it off. I don't want to go back where I came from... The head hunger really is difficult but I am not going to let it get me. I stopped eating sugar on Ash Wednesday and I must say the cravings are gone. But it's one day at a time. Sugar was killing me this year. Last year I investigated switching to the sleeve. Mainly due to normal band behaviors we need to follow like having to chew slow, small pieces and some reflux issues I was having. My doctor recommended against it... I'm glad I didn't go that route because I'm hearing from some people that reflux is worse with sleeve. So I've disciplined myself to follow the directions I got on day 1 of getting my lapband Mainly eating slowly, small bites, etc. Anyway just wanted to jump on and check in.... Would love to hear how you guys are and how's it going? JosieK

    Plexus Pri Bio 5

Ive gained about 10 pounds in the last part of this year and am SO not ok with that. By the way, Im over 2 years out. I'm wondering if its ok for me to take the Pelux Pri Bio 5 because my daughter is starting to sell it and thinks it's very healthy for you but when I took it for 2 days, it made me feel like my little tummy was swollen and going to explode, That scared me and now im wondering if I should have taken it at all. Does anyone know if it's ok for us to take a probiotic?
  8. So I’m scheduled to have my VSG on 8/27. Because I have a fatty liver, I started my pre-op liquid diet on 8/10. For the most part I have followed the diet pretty strict (mine is the true liquid diet) except I substitute an Oikos triple zero for a shake but am still getting 80 grams of protein and staying between 60-85 grams of protein a day and 650-800 calories. When I first looked into bariatric surgery back in January of 2020, my weight was 252 and I’m 5’ 8 1/2. Prior to the diet my weight was 236 (my insurance requires 6 months of nutritional visits and I did lose some weight). Now I’ve dieted off an on for over 15 years and can usually lose 20-30 lbs but it has never stayed off and I revert back to the 250 range which puts me at a BMI above 37. I have fatty liver & sleep apnea and when I made the decision to pursue bariatric surgery it was for my health. Here is my conundrum, in 11 days I have lost 10 pounds which to me is amazing so I’m now at 226lbs and a BMI around 34. Why am I now second guessing having surgery??? I know deep down the reason why I’m doing so well and sticking to the diet is because I’m terrified of having a fatty liver during surgery because of the complications (soft livers tear easily). Have any of you experienced this?

    July 23 banding

I joined the group the 23rd b/c i didnt see on for the 22nd.I am home and doing great! I got to the hospital at 730, they did more bloodwork, and an ekg. everyone was so amazing at the hospital. They explained everything. Did all the regular pre op stuff- got an iv, got something to relax me, then they took me to or and put me out. i was back in the recovery room an hour and a half later and then on to the other recovery room. They did my surgery from 10-1130, i left the hospital at noonish and was home by 1:30 pm. it was a very positive experience for me. i slept this afternoon, thanksto the pain meds and i had some shoulder pain from the gas, about a 3 on a scale of 1-10. the nurses did say that day 2 was worse so to be ready for that. i will let you know i was on Optifast for 2 weeks and my doctor said my liver looked good! he sure knows how to make a girl feel lovely  He also asked me NOT to weigh myself, that he would weigh me on the visits.... i have had 2 optifast shakes over the course of the day and some Water, but you really have to go slowly- you get FULL!!!/sore. i am so happy that i did this! 3 of the nurses that were in the OR did it and one was tellling me- she hasnt had a fill and she has lost 88lbs!!! we have to be careful to compare ourselves to too many people or stories and need to just listen to our body. good luck tomorrow- may it go as smoothly as mine did- b/c thatis a GREAT wish for you!

  14. I feel that I look sick also. My surgery was 10 months ago, and I've lost 100 pounds. In the beginning, the change came quickly, probably after only 30 pounds. It was shocking to see myself with a drawn face. I'm 55 and 100 pounds less, so the skin on my entire body is wrinkly and sagging. Before the surgery I was one of those who people would tell, you have such a pretty face... Now, I look old and sick. I've always had a weird crooked nose, and it now looks really weird and crooked. I suppose the nose thing is the biggest surprise, I knew people who'd had the surgery and was expecting the sagging skin. I don't like my face now either, and thqat surprises me since I thought that movie stars who are skinny looked so beautiful. Why are their faces not guant? I guess it was a trade off. I'm hearing the advice of water, and that's probably the best thing I can do, I don't stay as hydrated as I should. Hope your face (and not the rest) plumps up soon! :w00t:

    Weight Gain

I think it's because the last 10-20lbs is always the most difficult to lose. I also think that it was my first set point from high school and my body thought it needed to settle there and defend that new position. I also know that it happened in the sophomore phase and this is the phase where we notoriously start living life again. So some of it could be that I slacked off in my choices with a greater frequency of "treat" meals when going out? And before, I cooked almost everything at home. So I think it's probably a combination of metabolic stuff + behavior. Also, that chart doesn't look like it, but the line is actually down at the 130-135 level. It looks more like it's 140ish. Here's a close up of it for the last 90 days.
  16. I'm right with you! Surgery date 2/19. So excited, good luck to you and I wish you tons of sucess on your new journey!
  17. Began my two week pre-op liquid diet today. I've been so apprehensive about this particular step. Not the surgery though! I ate a healthy dinner last night. Woke up excited. I now have only 13 days, 19 hours, and 34 minutes until surgery!

    Gas Pain

I was banded on 10-13 and had really bad left shoulder pain that day, I took gas x strips to the hospital and took them every 4 hours. In addition to walking alot they seemed to help. Now I am taking the gas x capsules, I like them alot better. My gas pains are all but gone now, I am still swollen but not having the pain. Try the gas x and keep moving...congrats on your band!!

    slippage and erosion

Question for you, when you eroded what were your symptoms? What led you to know something was wrong? Was it a serious erosion or the beginning of one? Would you mind providing more details? Also, do you think there is any chance at all that your band was too small for your stomach or did you have a fill that in looking back... might have been too tight? Sorry, I really want to gather information on erosion so anytime I have an opportunity to ask, I do. The thinking used to be that NSAIDs caused erosion, then they discovered that wasn't true. Then they thought it was coffee and caffeine, that wasn't it either. Then they thought it was smoking. Nope, not that either. Now they think it is caused by a band that is too tight. Either the surgeon put a band on that was too small for the patient or that the patient got a fill that was too tight for too long. This is the theory that makes the most sense to me. Ever see an abused dog that has a collar on that is too tight? After months of this the collar starts to erode into their neck and it has to be surgically removed and repaired. The same thinking could apply here as well. Also, why is it that some docs have such a high erosion rate (7-10%) and other docs have such low erosion rates (my doc is 0.0016%)? That kind of a difference can't be the patient base the doc attracts, that sounds like surgeon issues to me. The numbers lead me to believe that. Of course, then there is infection. Poor sterile technique during a fill can cause a port infection and the infection can travel up the tubing to the actual band. My doc has one eroded patient. The patient had her band for a few years and went to a US RN for a fill. The fill was clearly too tight and the patient knew it. She could barely drink liquids but she refused a slight unfill as she was losing weight like crazy and wanted to get to goal faster. So she went for months and months with a fill where she could hardly drink Water. I suspect her "too tight" fill is likely what caused her erosion from hearing her story on the boards but clearly, nobody will ever know for sure. But this begs the question... is it the patient or the doc? How is it that my doc has one erosion in 1600+ bands and some other docs have a 4-10% erosion stat when according to Inamed global stats are 1.3%? If their infection stats were that high in comparison to other docs we would blame the doc. I'm not so sure it is any different here with the exception of fills that are too tight and the patient won't get a slight unfill. I really question if you might have misunderstood this. I think you might have it backwards. Erosion is currently thought to be the doc's fault in general. Slips are typically the patient's fault. Not always, but usually. People that don't chew well, take bites too big, PB a great deal, keep fills that are too tight, etc... they are the folks that tend to slip more than others. I think there are some slips that nobody knows why it happens. But many times slips happen in people that didn't follow the post op diet, they don't chew food well, they eat things they know they can't tolerate, overeat, etc. Another reason I suspect you might have the slips/erosion backwards is that it isn't the sutures that really hold the band into place, it's the scar tissue that forms around the band. The stomach is sewn up and over the band but the scar tissue that forms during the post op diet is what really secures the band into place. Theoretically, you should be able to remove the sutures after the scar tissue has formed and the band should stay in place.

    Preop weight loss-too much?

Yes indeed. I copied and pasted this from another thread 9/10.I’ll follow up with more details later. I never did the math on this before. 8/18-8/19 I lost an average of 6.1 pounds per month. I had surgery at 204 and I lost s.l.o.w. I think one month I only lost 2-3 pounds eating less than 900 calories a day. I did lose it though!
  22. Has anyone had a fill done by a radiologist? I saw my surgeon today and he suggested this. I had my surgery on April 22, 2009 and have lost 30 pounds. I am at 7.5 cc's in my 10 cc band, and after not losing any weight in the past 12-weeks, today at my weigh-in I had gained one pound. My surgeon said the radiologist will empty my band completely and then completely re-fill it. Then, I will drink some liquid while the radiologist slowly removes the saline from the band. I guess it will be a good way to ensure the band has not slipped and is still working correctly. Just wondering if anyone else has had this done. Thanks everyone!!

I've made low carb pizzas using low carb tortillas with olive oil Pasta sauce cheese and turkey pepperoni and it only takes 10 mins to cook!
  24. Does anyone know about a doctor named Chris Sanborn? He is coming to the Chattanooga, Tn area from a military hospital in Kentucky. Please anyone knows about him I need to know asap!! I have already had my surgery ,but I have a friend of mine that is needing surgery. This doctor is coming to the Chattanooga area and we need to know what his surgery results have been. My friend is very scared about the surgery period and then having to use a new doctor over the one that has been doing surgery in the area well over 10 years. So if there is anyone that knows anything about this doctor please let me know..
  25. My doctor did not put me on a pre-op diet, but advised I should try to lose 10-15 pounds before surgery and go low-carb and kick the sugars so my liver could shrink a little. I ate the foods I'm eating now, high-protein, etc. practice food journaling, and then went on a liquid diet 48 hours before surgery. What you had sounds fine to me for 10-days out, just get back on the horse and try again tomorrow. Shrinking the liver is very important, it can prevent them from being able to do the surgery at all. The stomach is kind of hidden behind/beside the liver, and they have to be ever so careful not to damage it.
