    Pre workout post surgery?

3 weeks you might want to start slow don't push yourself too much. I know I'm not meant to lift anything over like 10lbs until 4 weeks so I'm taking it very easily right now 2 days from 2 weeks post op

    Just get started

I started the process the beginning of October. I had the 4th nutrition visit in January (first one was in Oct, then every 28-30 days another so the 4th appointment for weigh in was on day #91 in january). Then I saw the surgeon a week later. They submitted the paperwork and Aetna mailed me the approval letter 10 business days later. From what I understand your weight can go up and down a little due to different clothing etc. (preferable down) during the 90 day nutrition visits but they want that final 90 day weight in to be lower than the first visit. During that 90 day period I did the other tests, blood work etc. For me my surgery is scheduled about 4.5 months after that very first appointment.
  3. I have had a couple of stalls but I ignore them and stay with the plan. I do not have any regrets. Today three different people asked me if I was losing weight and then they said I was looking very good. Made my day!!!!

    Pre workout post surgery?

Actually its not all about reps. Low reps and high weight still breaks the muscles down and gives them the need to rebuilt just as much as low weight high reps. I did a program before surgery that was 1x a week, low reps high weight and I increased all of my maxes by quite a bit in a short time frame. That said - anything is better than nothing!
  5. Thanks everyone :-) I got the sleeve 4 months ago & it's been amazing for me! I have no food problems at all, pain, problems eating/drinking!! It seems to be great!! I just wanted to see if anyone wishes they got a different wls. Did anyone further into post op have annoyingly long stalls?!
  6. So this is all new to me although I've been doing research and going to doctors visits and having all kinds of tests done and well my doctor finally gave me the referral to a surgeon. Although I confused. I called the doc and I have to do some seminar before they can give me an apt. The girl was really nice and advised me to see if my insurance covers bariatrics and to not ask to many questions, so I did just that. I was advised that it is covered if medically needed once approved they will cover 100%. I also asked where on line I could find the requirements so she told me where and so I went to look but that info is not online. So I came across something else in the benefits website under doctor search and it didn't have names of doctors but approved facilities for bariatrics and this doctor is not affiliated with any of the 4 hospitals in the Chicago land area! So am I just wasting my time with this seminar if this doctor isn't affiliated with one the the 4 hospitals? Ugh... Anyone have a suggestion for me. I will tell you that I was diagnosed with sleep apnea (just received my cpap machine a week ago) my BMI is 41 or 42 and I have been having back issues and went to therapy and MRI's and nothing is wrong mechanically. I have issues with my ankles and knee's giving out I'm like 5'. 0.5" and as of yesterday 219 (I lost 5 lbs this month, I'm so proud). I have BCBS of GA and I live in Chicago land area go figure out of state insurance! Does any of this look hopeful? Some one anyone give me some inspiration words of wisdom. I've been wanting and pushing doc to say ok lap-band since early this Year and it's now August and I just turned 30 2 weeks ago and want to enjoy my 4 year old daughter and life.

    aching port....6 mo post op?

lianna, It takes at least three months for your port to become encapsulated with scar tissue. Since you are six months out, you might have somehow "jogged" it a little to cause the soreness. I had my surgery on April 20th, and since the date of surgery I have used a lightly wrapped ACE banage around my middle to help with pain and support. I wear it a night and a few hours during the day. It has helped my soreness tremendously -- and my scars are as flat as can be. You might try a light wrapping to help until your soreness goes away and to help hold your port back in place until it "re-heals."
  8. I had the gastric sleeve Feb. 24 so I am 5 days post OP. I feel crappy. I feel hungry, am I suppose to? I tried the broth as much as I hate it and I couldn't do it. The cream of wheat they said I can eat made me throw up (never liked that either) so all I have really been able to eat it sugar free jello and sugar free fudgesiscles. I am not sure if there is other things I can eat at almost a week post op.. any suggestions??
  9. I was hoping the WLS would help with the diverticulitis but I guess not for me . Yes I have been on antibiotics for a week and a half and no relief. Doc says she may put me in hospital for IV antibiotics I sure hope not!!

    Getting dicourages

First congratulations on your loss!. A 50 lb loss in the first two - three months is somewhat above average for most people having this surgery. If I could ask, what was your expectation at this point? I ask this a lot from folks that post similar and it is rare that I get an answer. I really am curious what you thought you would weigh two months out. Did you talk to your surgeon to see where he thought you would be? Again great job on the loss, I would not be "dicouraged" if i were you.

    A Little Bummed

My doc told me not to even weigh myself until I was 2 weeks out (of course I did anyway). Your body is going through some major changes. Your weight will fluctuate. You've just had major surgery, you've started exercising and drastically changed your diet. Your body needs time to adjust to all this. The scale is not an accurate reflection of fat loss over such a short period of time. Be patient. This is normal. Hide your scale. Use a tape measure instead.

    Pain pills before Surgery

My gallbladder surgery was super easy. Had it at 7 in the morning, was home on the couch eating Subway turkey sandwich by 1pm. There's gonna be a little gas pain anytime they inflate you...lol....but walking helps. When my gallbladder was at it's worst, I found that cottage cheese was a safe food...and I never ate more of it in my life. I existed on it almost exclusively for three weeks...ugh! You're going to do just fine. It's not that bad, and you will be so glad to be done with the attacks. Hang in there!
  13. I'VE BEEN STRUGGLING FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS OUT OF THREE. I'M SURE SOME OF YOU HAVE TOO BEFORE BECOMING SUCCESSFUL. HAS ANYONE STARTED OVER FROM AN UNFILL? IF SO, LET ME KNOW PLEASE! I WANT TO KEEP MY BAND FOR AS LONG AS I CAN BUT STILL NEED TO LOSE 35 MORE LBS. IT'S HARD, BUT I'VE JOINED THE GYM AND PLAN TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT IT NEXT WEEK. I'M GETTING TOTALLY UN-FILLED ON WEDNESDAY. LET ME KNOW IF I SHOULD DO LIQUIDS FOR A WHILE OR JUST HOW TO GET CONTROL AGAIN. I KNOW IT'S UP TO ME AND I'M STARTING IT OFF BY PORTION CONTROL.

    What I know For Sure

I know that I will forever be mindful of chewing...chew...chew...chew I know that I could not have achieved the weight loss to date without the band. I know that regardless of my success, I will always feel embarrased I let my body 'go' so far. I know that I will eventually be the body size/weight combination with which I am happy. I know that I should have done this several years ago. I know that if there was a magic pill to cure my cravings for nuts, I would take it. I know that my lifestyle changes will impact DH - and ideally mean we are together longer. I know that my family are proud of my success to date. I know that if anyone had said I would become 'a regular' at the Y and be there before 6am 4 days a week, I would not have believed them. I know that I have to keep exercising, even though I do not enjoy it. I know that I have tremendous respect for many of the people I have met on this forum, and that we would not have 'met' were it not for this band.

    Week 1

Ok so week 1 is over and I have been feeling pretty darn good since I came home. I haven't had any crazy problems, knock on wood, or anything so that makes me happy.I have been walking and getting out on little adventures (a.k.a. stores) but I do find that after about an hour I get super tired and lose my energy and have to go relax and sit down. I know it's cause of the lack of calories and protein and stuff but I do not enjoy it. I have been having trouble getting my proteins in which is common. I can't really stomach the shakes anymore, which I still try to get down, and I can't really eat enough to get any good amount of protein so basically I have to relay on the shakes and do my best to drink them as much as I can. Sooo the exciting part, I lost 20 pounds since I got home from the hospital which was 1 week. I wasn't going to weigh myself until I went to the doctors for my 2 week checkup but I couldn't wait any longer so I weighed myself. Amazing and soooo excited. Well that's abot it. Until next week, taw taw!

    Laying The Groundwork

I'm 8day post op preshake weight 245 pre surgery w 227 cw 220 and am the same way, I told no one except my husband and one best friend. I didn't even tell my kids I just told them that I had to have some female surgery. I only took a week off so I'll be back to work Monday. During my presurgery shake. I just told everyone that I was working with the nutritionist and supplementing meals during the day with shakes. We used to go out for lunch a lot I told them that I was on a financial diet and that I was no longer going out. So far I'm feeling pretty good first three days were rough with bloating but I've already had several bowel movements my biggest concern is eating habits right now I kind of just winging it drinking as much Water as I can and sipping on shakes I have had some cottage cheese already needed to feel that chew. I need to start working on weighing food and logging it so I know how many Protein and calories I truly am getting. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I was wondering the same thing. It's been two weeks since my surgery, and I have been sipping water all day, but it never seems to add up to much water. I decided to leave water bottles in my car and at my desk at work to increase my fluid intake.

    Laying The Groundwork

I couldn't like this post more!!!! I started my journey at 397 pounds in March, and I lost 99 pounds during my six-month, insurance-required diet program. It was the BEST thing I ever did for myself, and I think that it is AWESOME that you are taking that same path. There are so many benefits (health-wise and otherwise). And think how great it will be when the 3 week stall hits (and it will hit) and you will have lost 60 or 70 pounds by then rather than just 10 or 20 pounds if you waited on the surgery to begin. The mental save of that piece alone is a big reward. (I would never have handled my 3 week stall as well as I did if I had lost 20 pounds at that point rather than 120 pounds....) Congratulations. Good for you!!
  20. I was banded Feb. 8, and I am having trouble getting all my liquids in. I probably drink half of what I'm suppose to. I'm not hungry or anything, but I'm not thirsty either. I have one more week of full liquids then on to mushies. Is this a problem and did anyone else have trouble getting in the required liquids post-op?

Now THIS is what I signed up for!!

I just got my third fill last week, 7ccs in a 10cc band. I felt restriction on the second one but I could still eat about 10oz which was more then I wanted. So now after this last fill I can get full on around 6oz, which is awesome, but the downside is I get stuck ALOT. I'm trying to take small bites and chew really well, but sometimes it doesnt matter, and unless I'm really determined to eat, I can only take a bite or two then give up because it gets stuck really bad. Good news is, I'm using my calorie counter and have stayed under 1200 calories every day since this last fill! I lost a few pounds but now its almost my time of the month so I'm retaining water and have put them back on. At first I was sure I was too tight because liquid would go down VERY VERY slow. Scarily slow. But it goes down and thats what matters, because once you lose a bit of weight and the fat pad around your stomach shrinks, it loosens up a bit. I concidered going in for a slight unfill, but after those couple of lbs dropped I could tell the difference. The moral of the story is...if its still moving through, your good!

Now THIS is what I signed up for!!

I just had my 4th fill two days ago,I'm at 7.1cc and I'm thrilled! My doctor had me on liquids for one day and mushies for the second, so today is the first day with solid food. I just had a 6 oz steak and part of a tomato with vinegar and I'm full. I don't think i've ever been full on this amount of food. I hope hope hope this means I'm at my sweet spot. I was banded over a year ago and after my initial weight loss, I went on to...gain 5 lbs. After receiving my hospital bill and doctor's bill I couldn't afford to go back for a fill. So here I am a year later and hopefully I'm back on track. I have to re-educate myself; do I low carb it or just a tiny bit of everything, do I count calories or...? I have been exercising 5 days a week, so please God, hopefully I'll start losing weight...again.
  23. Hello Everyone! Got a call from the surgeon's office yesterday, I'm approved! I'm happy to say I have a tenative surgery date of November 3rd. Why so late you may be asking, let me give you the reason why. While I was doing my 6 month pre-op I decided on breast reduction surgery. In late July I had around 7 lbs removed total. Unfortunately a small infection developed which caused stress on the already tight skin. The infection cleared up, but has left an open wound that a 4x4 gauze pad just covers.:tongue2: There is new skin growth starting to cover the area, :scared2: but it's very slow in getting better. ( 7 weeks tomorrow) It must heal completly before surgery. If it should somehow get better quickly, they will move my date up. If it doesn't I'll have to push the date even later. Here I thought I'd be having it done this month! I don't regret having the breast reduction, even with this huge open wound, it is great having all that weight removed and I no longer have to order a extended cup size that never really fit anyway. (40H to 40C) Plus,it was all covered by insurance where breast lifts are not. I am praying for this to heal quickly and without any more complications so that I may finally be an offical bandster!! Thanks for reading, sorry for such a long post.
  24. The band is higher than you might imagine, as is our stomach. Starting mushy foods in a week is a little quicker than most, but I'm sure it's not all that unusual. Since you obviously still have swelling, could you stand to go back on liquids for another week? You might feel better.
