Matrix makes a decent unflavored protein ..no smell. Get or at bariatric choice.

I do the 42gr protein shots. I like the grape best. I take 1/2 at a time. I'm also using the bariatric advantage orange cream and celebrate vanilla cake batter protein powders mixed with lactose free fat free milk. I just do 4 oz at a time.

I think the bariatric advantage whey protein shakes are good too but they seemed a little bit too sweet for my liking for some reason..... the one I hate is Optisource and Isopure...... the liquid proteins are made from collagen protein and are horrible and is a much infrerior protein.

The link between high protein diets and cancer
Healthy_life replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Absolutely no problem with posting health articles. Appreciate the warnings on high protein diets. 60 grams of protein is the same as any other bariatric patient. 60 grams is not a high amount of protein. Right????? You said "I do eat meat. When I do, it's mostly chicken and fish. I very occasionally eat fresh red meat. I get more than half of my daily require Protein from plant/carb bases sources. I eat 60g of protein per day. I'm glad to see that all of us are within a good range. -

I will continue to post nutrition articles that are of concern to bariatric patients. We are adults. Those who appreciate them can read them. Those who don't....can either continue to whine and cry about them....or act like adults and simply ignore them. I've been thanked privately and encouraged to continue posting. I'm happy to do that for those who find it of use. -
Maddie’s New Life - A Story of Self Love
MaddieSpahr posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have struggled with my weight since I was five years old. Late in 2016- at 28 years old at my heaviest weight- I had my first appointment with a bariatric surgeon in Akron, Ohio where I live and began the steps towards gastric bypass. I was so scared. But I knew that I would rather risk my life than live like this forever. I feared that my parents would bury me in 20 years and that my sister would become an only child. I knew I had to do something. I had tried everything. Between the ages of 8-28 I had tried everything under the sun. I could not lose/maintain the weight loss. On June 26, 2017- I had gastric bypass surgery. I have lost/maintained 180 pound weight loss. I have a whole new life. It is quite beautiful. I look forward to living everyday. I share my journey on Instagram - (my name on there is Maddie5088) and I also have a public Facebook Page called Mornings with Maddie. I created a blog almost a year ago that focuses on sharing my journey, creating/sharing healthy recipes. You can find it here - foodfitnessandbeauty.com I share body positivity, kindness, self love, inclusivity, healthy recipes, grocery hauls, I do monthly giveaways, how to meal prep, affordable/easy meals for bariatric patients and I do Q and As for Bariatric patients. I have felt very called to share my journey with the bariatric community! I hope you come follow along my story! It’s been a heck of a ride! Xoxo Maddie- 4 replies

Who Is The Most Affordable Dr In The U.s.
ShelbiCallie replied to smsmithart's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi -- I'm from NC and was self-pay. I searched extensively in many states and finally decided to travel to Dr. Kirshenbaum in CO. There's a lengthy thread of information about him by his patients on LBT. Here's his website Lap Band Surgery in Denver Colorado | Lap Band Surgeon in Denver | Gastric Band Surgery Denver | Bariatric Surgery Total cost for me was $9950 and that included fills for 3 months afterwards; fills after 3 months are $15. (These amounts, of course, did not include travel expenses.) I have absolutely no regrets and would go back to him without any reservation. I have the APS band and have had no complications whatsoever. Good luck in your journey! -
I have often wondered about that. When you watch lap band surgeries online, you see this incredibly long tube. Then they cut away to the talking head and when they come back, they are stitching the port into place. I always wonder where all the tubing went. It seems like he did have erosion. Isn't his band inside his tummy? Do port infections increase the chance of erosion? Something you said earlier seemed to imply that. But how can that be?! US surgeons are the best! Everyone knows that!! (j/k) I don't think that's why. I think it's because he's a big ol' drama queen and he's been quite insulting to many people, including, but not limited to, all nurses. I'm sorry, but he brought his treatment on himself with his drama, preposterous claims and nasty sniping at anyone who challenged him. That doesn't make it right and I wish people would calm down about it, but it is understandable and I don't think it has anything to do with fear for most of us. For myself, I don't want to die having elective surgery. My kids are still young enough that I want to be around for them. I will take more complications on the back-end for a safer surgery. There are other reasons I prefer LB to GS but that's a biggie. I'm sorry to hear that. I think it is different because I doubt you went to that board and posted a bunch of crap about how if you spoke out about your problems, you'd be car bombed by the evil Bariatric Industry in your very first couple of posts. I actually think what happened to you was worse because you were a known entity and there was probably a certain level of trust that was broken by that person being nasty to you.

I understand where your coming from because I was at a Bariatric Support group last night and had to hear numerous people bash the band. You need to realize that this is for you and no one else. Everyone has an opinion its up to you to search within yourself and determine if this is for you. I have been overweight all my life and really had no support for my decision but I went through with it and have no regrets. The good thing about the band is it is reversable and they can take it out, but with the Gastric Bypass that is not an option. I want you to focus on you and your choice and try to close your ears to everyone not supporting you. before classes 06/24/07 316lbs. banded 01/24/08 292lbs. current 06/11/08 251.5

my personal little official thread
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Theoretically, yes. BUT, apparently FMLA does not have to be approved for cosmetic surgeries. I recently got a warning that if I used ANY more sick leave, I would be fired. I missed a lot of work this year due to bariatric complications and most recently my back injury, and didn't know enough about FMLA to know I should have requested those issues be covered so they weren't. They had already approved the FMLA for these dates and if I go and change the dates and ask for new FMLA forms to be completed, I am 100% sure they would deny it. I am going to really go over all this next Monday with the plastic surgeon. I also have an appointment scheduled with my rheumatologist on December 6th, the Friday before I would be returning to work post-op, in case I move forward with the surgery but am still in pain. He would be able to prescribe antiinflammatories or something else to hopefully get me through. -

I am doing very well thank you Pegrae. Maybe Bariatric Pal needs to host a reunion/vacation get together for their happy patients. I am sure they would love to see us all again as much as we would enjoy seeing them. -
Yummie I love tea, hot or cold. Chick a is probably one of the better one to choose. Soup is a staple! I was able to finally go out to eat and feel normal. I found the kids menu at Texas Roadhouse and red lobster to be the friendliest to bariatric peeps. I was so happy finally munch on on crab legs (without butter of course) and salad. At Texas they have little nugget steaks and apple sauce sauce and veggies. Although most of it went into the hubby's mouth. [emoji12]

I started my research a long time ago... but did not find the bariatric doctor "for me" until November 2016. I am 5'4" and I weighed 220 pounds. I was a pack a day smoker and was addicted to carbs, sugar and Mt. Dew - and I was scared that if I didn't make some changes, I was going to die. In December, just before Christmas, I ended up in the hospital because scar tissue from a surgery 16 years ago had adhered to my intestines. I was in the hospital 2 days and when I got out I thought - why start smoking again? I am 2 days smoke free! I still "wanted" to be doing it though, so I switched to vaping. I also was on Clear liquids for 4 days... so I thought, why go back to soda and sugary drinks? I just never had another soda since. Then, I had my surgery on January 25th... and was in the hospital for 3 days (2 nights)... I never even thought about my ecig until I got home and unpacked my bags... so I thought, why start again when I am already 3 days vape free? And of course I had been on a pre-op liver shrinking diet for almost 2 weeks before surgery, and part of that had me ingesting something every 3 hours from 730 am - 730 pm daily... so I thought, why not try to keep doing that? I sipped Water constantly but I made sure every 3 hours from 730 - 730 I was ingesting something other than water - clear liquids, full liquids, soft foods... whatever part of my journey I was on I integrated into the every 3 hours process. Right now, I am 2 weeks from a full, regular diet and I am still on soft foods - but every 3 hours I ingest something and I am not hungry in between and feel great! I quit sodas, I quit smoking, I quit vaping and I have lost 34 pounds so far. It hasn't been super easy - but it has absolutely been worth it!!

I just buy all my supplements directly from my doctors office. They sell the bariatric advantage stuff, and they sell them for cheaper than anywhere I could find online. I'm not a fan of their protein so I'll use something else going forward, but your surgeons office could be a good place to start

Vitamins Post op
Danny Paul replied to GoddessMoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also use bariatric advatage but, my Dr didn't allow me to use them until I was one month post op. I also take Noscabel which is a B12 inhaler (prescription needed). My insurance company pays for it with a $20 a month co pay. -
NOPE 😂 my goal weight was 155-160lbs bmi 28 according to my Surgical PA & I achieved that long ago (150 is just a number I put in long ago and never removed) So no further bariatric/fitness goals to achieve

Lovelace Westside Albuquerque
NoMoBand replied to abqann's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
You may contact Lovelace Bariatrics with questions. The number is (505) 727-2300. They also have another Bariatric doctor there, his name is Adam Smith. Doctor Smith is out of Texas and comes in to do surgeries here. He also see's patients for their follow ups. I personally prefer Dr. Sanchez, but, Dr. Smith is also a very good doctor. Jake -
I recently went through the process with Lovelace Westside and had an overall good experience. There were some annoying points, but for the most part it was just fine. First, Dr. Smith was my surgeon. I went to his seminar and since Dr. Sanchez was going to be unavailable for a month or two that's ok. Smith is based out of Ft. Worth and comes in once or twice a month for surgeries. He has the most experience with somewhere around 1500 completed. He trained Dr. Sanchez and now that she's at the 150 mark she does most of the Albuquerque area surgeries now. For complicated patients with high BMI they both are there just in case. Dr. Smith did an excellent job. I have never had a surgery (and unfortunately I've had more than I would like) with such a low amount of pain and quick recovery. His stitches are extremely well done too, which I appreciated. Overall the process on surgery day was over quickly and just as advertised. The only issue I have was with one of the support staff. Specifically the social worker they have to do the mental health evaluations. She is rude, doesn't know what she's talking about, and makes a lot of threats to you while you're in the office. It's the "if you don't do such and such I'm not going to approve you for surgery" type comments that she makes over and over that get irritating. Waiting for other patients I've heard some more colorful complaining about her. If you just answer her questions and get it over with it's usually painful. Everyone else from the front-office staff, to the dietician, to the post-op care PA are phenomenal to work with. They were very friendly and got every question of mine answered. Be prepared to be told everything about 6-10 times over the course of your "journey" with them. They have you look at a website that has everything, then for the next 3-4 months while you're going through the "journey" they will tell you it again, and again. The process has been working. I've lost about 20 pounds since the surgery and it is very easy. I strongly recommend this process to anyone. One thing to keep in mind is that they are now doing some form of bariatric surgery in Santa Fe at St. Vincent's now. I'm not sure if they do the lapbands or the gastric bypass, though.

Actually, I've called Cigna 10 or 11 times to confirm the 3 months of supervised weight loss visits and its just that 3 CONSECUTIVE months. The link you listed specifically says if the procedure is FOLLOWING SIGNIFICANT weight loss, THEN you need 6 months of documented STABLE weight. ***Here:Note: If the procedure is being performed following significant weight loss, in addition to meeting the criteria noted above, there should be evidence that the individual has maintained a stable weight for at least six months. If the weight loss is the result of bariatric surgery, panniculectomy should not be performed until at least 18 months after bariatric surgery and only when weight has been stable for at least the most recent six months. I specifically called Cigna yesterday and spoke directly with a lady from the pre-determination department at Cigna and here is the criteria that is need for Cigna to approve you for weight loss surgery: -3 consecutive months of a supervised weight loss program (must be supervised by a doctor or registered dietitian) (following MUST be documented: a weight loss program, an exercise program, weight at visit) -Letter of medical necessity from your Primary Care Physician (the following needs to be documented:Height, weight,BMI, comorbidities (example:diabetes, hypertension, etc..), and daily medications) -Psychological evaluation by a mental health provider -Nutritional consult done by a doctor or registered dietitian -Medical clearance from your Primary Care Physician (stating you are cleared for surgery) -Eval by Bariatric Surgeon

The Six Month Diet Is Officially Over! Waiting For Approval From Uhc

Hi everyone make sure you check with your Bariatric Office. I was told 6 months and I just found out from my Bariatrics Office that the first appointment doesn't count because you haven't been monitored for that month. You actually need to be seen 7 times.
